There are several things that I can't stand about this phone already.
The HTC branding all over Android OS is killing me.
It's slide out keyboard is just plain WEIRD.
The Genius Button is not so genius as to have put it on the front as a main button.
I just don't think I like it.
I LOVE Android, but this thing feels like a SideKick/kid version of what was supposed to be a game changer for T-Mobile in the Android market.
Call me Old Fashioned, but the G1 had everything that made Android work so well and I would STILL be rocking it if it had a faster processor and more memory.
It had all the right buttons in all the right places.
I know about the root, froyo coming and this that and the other, but why did T-Mobile do this to THEIR FlagShip phone line? They already had the teens with the SideKick.
So much to mention, but such a waste of breath.
There, I vented my 0.2¢
Personally I love the phone. I Do agree about the genius button but other than that I really cant gripe about the phone too much. It does everything I need it to do and it does it pretty fast.
I also agree with the genius button. I would have much rather had an end call button. I love the keyboard and this thing nvr slows down even when I have it all loaded up. Must say I love this phone even though I thought I wouldnt

To each is own I guess. I have the slide, evo, and hd2. As far as speed and userbility goes the slide is nothing to sneeze at maching speeds with both phones if not faster. Although I do admit a dedicated numbers row on the keyboard would have been a plus.

I didnt think i would like the genius button at first either comming from a g1, but it was intended to keep people from getting distracted while driving. I got used to it and i love it now.

You can always remap the genius button to do something else, like an end call button. I was wanting to get the HD2 because of the work being done with getting android on it, but it looks like its gonna take a while longer, and i cant chill with winmo 6.5 waiting for the android build to come to it. Im getting my Slide this upcoming weekend, and ill pick me up a used HD2 whenever the android port gets closer to done.
Lol. You jobber you don't deserve a SLIDE. Its the best phone on the market for less than $500. I've had and loved a N1. Just don't try to place a call on that crappy radio. Iphones suk. Droid is ok but wtf no better than the slide. Good luck. Maybe you should pick up a old bag phone from 1988 grandpa.

I am assuming you are just joshing with him. If not, this is seriously an unnecessary post and very rude.
I waited for a hard keyboard forever it seems, got the Slide, and tried out Swype. I saw that it had promise, and made a commitment to use NOTHING but Swype for a week. Now I've not used the hard keyboard for 2 weeks.
Looking back on my G1, it was good, even with all of the CM stuff on it, not bad at all, but the Slide blows it so far out of the damned water.

Im with you on that one.
My brother was an early adopter for this phone. I played with it a few times, couldnt get used to it. But I was growing tired of my G1. I picked up my Slide yesterday and I think I may have used the hard keyboard 4 times at most. Swype actually impresses me.
I think the one thing that annoyed me the most (and still does, but not as much) is the seperate lock/power button at the top of the phone. Im so used to hitting end to shut the screen off. I hit the genius button a few times, but not at all today. I do wish there were dedicated call/end buttons though.
I cant wait for CM to get on this so I can finally remove all this TMo branding BS. The phone flies right now with ADW launcher but I still see more in it.
OP - How long have you had the Slide? Give it a few more days to see if you can get used to it.
I don't really understand the hate for Sense that a lot of folks have. I personally love it so far, this thing is so frigging fast, I can't MAKE it crash! I too want to get rid of a bunch of the stuff on it though. Twitter is not my thing, so I don't need it, but there's a bunch more too, just need to get rid of it.

i agree...i came from g1 and i love the espresso UI, the little glossy bubbles around the app icons give them all a tiny bit of uniformity...and the speed is amazing. (compared to what im used to with the G1) i cant tell you how many times ive scrolled thru my homescreens (5, all completely full) as fast as i can to see if i could make it lag...to no avail...
i also dont have any use for twitter or facebook, i removed the twitter app and the widget, and the facebook app and widget, (among some others i removed to cut back on some of the bloat) and the only problem i have with espresso is that all kinds of unnecessary things are constantly running in the bg eating up memory...seriously i have 2 instances of HTC Checkin runninng AT ALL TIMES...isnt one enough? even when i kill everything they start right back up...that and the issue with tmo contact sync running after you turn it off, are the only complaints i have...other than that i love the espresso UI and its a welcome change from the stock android im used to...

the slide is not for everyone. I have only used the N1 and Slide as far as android is concerned. I love both phones. I prefer the slide over the N1 as it has the my modes that is excellent for my use but is only a personal preference. You can disable HTC sense if you don't like it (i go back and forth with adw launcher and htc sense). But this phone competes with the best of them. I have not noticed any performance degrades from N1 to slide at all. I like having the keyboard but agree that its not the best keyboard on the market but I have ended up using swype 99% of the time. Now I only use the keyboard for a lengthy email or something. I love the genius button as most of my text outside of work are done by voice and less clicks to just hit one button. Overall I am much happier with the slide than the N1 and once the galaxy s (vibrant) is out I'm not as excited to get it but probably will cuz I'm addicted to technology. I am very happy with this phone.
Thanks for this thread, everyone. As someone who is on the fence about this phone, it's been very helpful to read the opinions.
If you pefer another type of andriod without sense there are choices out there. But first you need to root your phone, flash eng-build, and then flash the rom you want.
SlideM is my favorite as it did not have any of the sense added to it. and I just love the old school android it is nothing toward sense but it doesn't have the android feeling. Remind me too much of the HD2 and although I liked that phone it had its "issues" :O
I thought that I wasn't going to like this phone because I kept looking at it like it was a sidekick but it is actually so much better. It never freezes and the phone has a lot of functionality. I personally like the espresso UI but the bloatware is kinda annoying. I do utilize the twitter and the facebook apps so those do not bother me. If I could find an espresso ROM without the bloatware, I'd be in heaven.

I have been using "smartphones" for a while. My first one was a Treo 600 on mobile. When my dog ate that; I replaced it with a T-Mobile SDA. From there I went to AT&T and got an AT&T 8125 by HTC; then the 8525. When the 8525 screen broke; I breifly used a Nokia e61 but dumped that like a hot potato due to AT&T branding BS. I followed that with the 8925/Tilt/TyTn2. I took a small break from HTC and I admit I had a refurb'd iPhone3G....
I'm now back on T-Mobile with this MyTouch 3G Slide... It's my first android device and I'm quite happy with it. I've never experianced Android without sense; and I do use Twitter (but not Facebook). I don't consider myself a tweeniebopper junior phone user; and I have an extensive IT background.
This doesn't have a snappy SnapDragon processor; nor does it have a giant AMOLED screen; but it seems to be quite well proportioned and well optimized. The keyboard does need some reworking. Swype is fine if you use swype for full words but I recomend a different soft keyboard for abbreviated im/smsing.
I have yet to Root my phone; as I'm awaiting a working FroYo; and I try to always use stock roms till I can't stand them anymore.
Just my $0.02 U.S.

I'm considering getting the slide for my wife to replace her aging g1. From all accounts it seems to be speedy enough and my wife insists on a physical keyboard.
The biggest issue I see is that even though 2.2 is promised, it still won't support flash 10.1 because its using the older armv6 (arm11) CPUs and adobe has said that flash 10.1 will only be supported on the newer armv7 CPUs, such as the snapdragon.
In the end, it may not matter to my wife, and flash lite might be good enough, but this is something that people should be aware of.

Problem Solved. Running CM7 Build 40 (or later).
Do you have a condensed version of this post?
PS. My name is HondaCop and I approve this message.
Sounds like you've experienced a mix of software, firmware, and hardware issues and blamed them all on the ROM.
I use Fresh and can do everything that I read (didn't read the entire wall though, you may want to put in some Cliff notes for the lazy.)
I also run launcher pro.
So make one yourself, nothings stopping you, all the pieces and knowledge are free. Your post on here doesn't really serve a purpose.
Tried Calk's EViO 2, Myn's RLS5, Azrael X 2.1-3.1 over the 1st 3 months after I rooted, all had their various issues. Been on Vaelpak for over a month, love it! Dev is quick to respond to problems, even when they're caused by something in my setup. Currently on v 3.1 RC1 (update 2), v3.2 is right around the corner. Gets better every day!
Swyped on my VaelPak'd Supersonic EVO 4G...
It sounds like you want a rom that does what you want and the good news is...you can get it by making it yourself.
Expecting the devs to make something specifically to your tastes especially when most of it is done free of charge is a bit much to be asking.
If you can't make the rom you like on your own then you had better get cracking at fixing the rom with most of your wants working. You said so yourself you are too lazy to fix even a simple font issue yet you want the devs to make all your "i wants" possible. You should at least put in the effort to try to fix the little stuff (font for example) on your own before expecting the devs to do everything for you.

I've tried about 10 ROM's over the past couples weeks and if I could put the best features of all them on one it would be great.
This is in no way a report on disatisfaction from efforts from chefs. They are all sharing there time and effort typically on something they want for themselves.
But it seems you have to give up something to get something else.
I'm hoping someone can shed some light on my issues. Like use ROM X but apply this fix or patch.
I know everybody has different criteria for a "Working ROM" some may feel it's critical that Music plays over bluetooth with the phone going half asleep. Another user may want it to look like an iPhone etc.
But I don't need much (IMHO) but I just can't seem to get there.
Keep in mind I could easily live with most of these ROMs. But when you see something working right on one ROM but want it on another you keep hoping you can find a ROM that does everything the way you want or you can make it do so.
What I say I need may be incomplete because some things I take for granted. Like the phone needs to work, LED's for pending messages need to work etc.
1) ASOP Contacts. Why? So I can Click on Navigate to Address with that contact open. If anyone knows how to make HTC Sense Contacts do this I'd love to know. It can only go to stupid Google Maps.
2) Voice and Google Search to Include Contacts (ideally near the top of the list). I think I may have found a reason why it varies. If you shut off "Search As I Type" it behaves much more the way I prefer and Contacts will come right to the top and if you hit search it will then do a google search.
3) BlueTooth. All I use is simple headset that has worked on TP2 and 5 phones before that. It randomly disconnects after a Voice Search. Then leaves Voice Search prompt stuck on screen. Many (All?) sense based ROMs do this. But CM7 ROMs do not.
3a) Bluetooth Volume Resetting. Some ROM's it gets stuck at a low volume. That I can increase each time but it keeps reverting.
4) Solid 100% GPS. All Sense based ROMs work great. CM7 based ones are crap.
5) Battery as good as Stock or better.
6) ESPT (is a very nice to have but not critical).
7) Don't care about 4G or Eye Candy. But I don't want it to be an Eye sore either.
8) As a poor mans confirmation on Voice Search. I noticed on some Rom if you just say Call Fred Smith (WITHOUT saying on mobile) it will prompt Fred Smith on Mobile or Home. This is great !! So at least you know you got the right person. Then you say Mobile (which it rarely gets wrong). It makes the call. This doesn't work on all ROM's.
9) Good support thread. Some ROMs have very little interaction with chef to help get answers and plugs for some things you'd like to see. Some have very good Chef support but and pounded with stupid chatter and you'd have to live in the thread full time to keep up. It's seems the better support a Chef does pulls in more folks that just want to chat about anything.
10) If Click Send Message from a Contact that could actually FILL the To: Phone Number. A lot of ROM's this doesn't work on. Some depend on a Cache that you have an ongoing thread.
I have not tried alternate kernels with Sense Based ROM's perhaps that would solve some bluetooth issues.
CM7 Build 38 looked promising at first glance. But it fell on its face with GPS. Yes I did all the silly tricks. It always finds location and locks quick. But it just refuses to update while navigating. Will occasionally get an update.
NonSense ROM was very close and I may end up going back to it and perhaps with different Kernels because it suffered from Bluetooth issues. Might be time to upgrade BT headset. It's worked so well for so long I hate to give it up.
These are all stock #15 Kernel with lastest Radio and PRL.
Myn - Over themed (Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder I guess) poor contrasts on Fonts. Yes fixable. But I'm too lazy.
NonSense - Bluetooth is really only issue. Battery about same as Stock.
CM7 BLD 38 - Missed calls GPS will lock but not update.
VP3.70 - This really looks quite good but I just didn't have the time to learn which freaken updates to apply. He leans on theming which is low priority for me.
Rainfreak - Not actually installed, he says he addressed bluetooth issues. But he removed EPST and some other critical Sense based things. Might be easy to put back. But he abandoned support
OMJ - I misspoke in other threads this is a pretty nice stock based ROM and I like his thinking. Fine tune the stock stuff. Currently running. Several of the issues listed above (3,3a, 8).
Sprintlovers - Too close to stock, why bother.
Calkulin - Had stability issues with 1.7.7 (even with undervolt removed). 1.8 seems to have fixed that but still has some of my common issues with Sense Based ROM's with none of the pluses of the Hybrid Sense/ASOP ROMs.
MiekFroyo - Too many ROM's I forget what issues I had but I'm sure in the list above.

I don't think his ROM would solve many of my issues any way. If I see a ROM "Over themed" then tend to have different priorities. And I don't want to spend time customizing it. I want one that starts close. Also if the doesn't see this a serious flaw then I suspect I would see other flaws.
Again, nothing against different chefs. Different strokes for different folks.

I may just go to Vaelpak again (Definitely high on the list). I might just wait for V3.2. His updates are bit confusing. If they are primarily to fix "theme" issues I don't care. Again he has a high priority on Themes. That's fine, lot's folks love that stuff. I don't care about themes.
If VaelPak did some refinements on bluetooth (like Rainfreak said he did). Then it would be high on the list to try again. He spends lot of time on high resolution DPI stuff on themes. Just extra band with I need to sift through. But other threads say it's the Kernel that matters regarding bluetooth. That's not clear.

Also sense based Contacts is one of my major issues.
My favorite ROMs are the Hybrids that have some ASOP Gingerbread components that IMHO do it a little better even though not as Eye Candy-ish in some cases.

Lot of people with broken hardware then because I've seen many of the issues posted by other folks. In fact co-worked has rooted Droid II and he has some very similar issues. Only hardware that may have issues is my headset. But it worked perfect on TP2.
Part of the problems are Froyo 2.2 and some stupid limitation in Google Apps. Which is why I like Hybrid ROMs that have some Gingerbread 2.3 compoents that address some issues.
Full Gingerbread 2.3 ROMs are not ready for prime time yet (for me). I look forward to an official release.

I might, I used Calkulins Kitchen for TP2 and stuck with the same ROM for 7 or so months. But it did take months of F'in around with it to know what works well with what.
Trying to avoid that time sink. By the time I get it "right" Gingerbread 2.3 will probably be out and solve many issues.

How did the phone fall flat on its face? GPS issues?
Basically what you're doing is you're "customering" the developers. You're wanting to take the best pieces of all of them and automagically jam pack them into one ROM completely tailored to your needs. The only way this is going to happen is if you dive in and start helping or you build your own ROM. This post would have served much better purposes had you asked if anyone knows of a ROM that does all of these functions instead of going out and slamming each ROM for what it doesn't have. Each dev is going to take their own work their own way and that's the end of the story. If you don't like it, you have a few options, do your own work or quit your *****ing. There are a lot of things that I would LOVE to see in CM but until I bust out my coding chops or start adding to the development table, there's not much I can really do except thank him for his work, donate, and be happy that there are a ton of people out there donating their time to making this **** better.
I've been having the same problem. Calkulin's is the closest I have come
I know the roms like miui and cyanogen are landing now, but i can't live with this drug. It's impossible that i've payed 600 euro to have these defects:
1. Slow Charging
2. Modems hangup
3. Modems choising 2g even with full 3g reception
4. Modems changing 3g, h, h+,h,h,3g,h and stucks the loading of the page.
4. Lot of bloatware and even lot of mods to have a rom like AOSP
5. Touchwizard without a simple alphabetical order (incredible)
6. Samsung keyboard with settings key near the most stroked keys
I want a phone to call, and not a phone that stucks itself while i'm working... this make me nervous. I will return to windows phone 7 (know with lg optimus 7), but this time i will try an omnia 7 with 16gb.
IT'S very difficoltous to find it in Italy but i will never return to android, until it's became more stable for CALLING. Remember... a phone make calls.... not hangups!
I hate this phone.
lmao...no issues here...phone is spot on. get a iphone...thats nice n simple.

I have got all the iphone models until iphone 4. It's really a bad phone. I can't survive with a phone that has got a battery of only 6 hours.
I talk very much with the phone. VERY much!
go buy a 3310, do you lovely!
Never had an hangup in Italy, plus you can change launcher and keyboard, so maybe the problem it's you
Sell it and buy something worst, good luck

I haven't had problems with 1-4 as I charge at night and rarely have less than 40% at the end of the day and I usually use it on a wifi connection but when I have used it on mobile speeds they have been fast and stable. With 5, or what should be 5, I haven't removed any samsung apps but simply threw them in a Samsung folder as I use the odd one occasionally. If I did decide to remove them it's hardly a big deal with Titanium backup. With 6, I actually like the touchwiz app drawer, then again I like everything organised so the folders work wonders. Finally with 7, why not just try another keyboard? I use swiftkey as it suits me nicely but there are plenty of other options.
No phone will suit everyone perfectly but the genius of Android is that it gives plenty of options. Some will be happy some wont, but creating a thread and posting 'I hate this phone' as the 2nd reply is pointless. I came from a Nexus One (Loved it) but the S2 has really improved my Android experience, everything simply works and without delay. You may have came to the wrong place to put it down
WHat you need my Friend is a GOod All NOKIA
And get the ones with no touchscreen
As soon as Nokia comes with WP7 I am jumping ship as have a HD7 as well and I love WP7 as well
Not sure if OP is troll or serious.
If troll, go away.
If serious, get a Samsung E1080.

Nice.
We got ourselves an ID TEN T thread in progress... requesting OP to repeat wah-tah-jer-kai-am faster and faster.
All jokes aside, SGS2 still seems to be the best smartphone available.
Why do you even bother to post something like this?
if unhappy with phone, sell it, dont start a thread about how bad it is, that will upset people.
so no more smart comments here, just leave it and it will disapear among old threads.
have a nice day.
Baaah no need to moan like that. Its not that bad! Damn! Ive used 100times worse (desire HD). But you should sell it while its still got good value .

I love mine and deal with some of the issues you have stated. They are valid issues with the phone. I think some can be fixed. I own a samsung focus as my back up phone and love WP7 if thats what you want then go for it. Don't listen to people who think because they own something that it is flawless.
People come here to get information about pros, cons, etc. If everyone was ****ting roses and bunnies out of their ass all day it would be boring.
Hi everyone,
I am about to buy a used Nexus One. I tried looking for a new one but they are nowhere to be found. I need the one that has the 850/1900 3G bands. I know the Nexus One is an old phone, but I like the size of it and it's still a powerful device. I have a few questions. I checked out a couple of used Nexus One and both of them had issues with the back return key and the home key. The guy that I'm going to meet next week assured me that everything is working fine on his device. He had it for 1.5 yr and took care of it. I have read the issues with the power button. What else should I test the unit for? Also, how can I tell that I am buying the right Nexus One for Rogers Wireless in Canada? I read somewhere that on the back battery door if it says "PB99110" this is the 850/1900. Is that correct?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Happy New Year everyone!!!
I'm assuming Rogers uses a GSM network, and if so you would already be a Rogers customer correct? You could put your sim card into the phone, boot it up and verify that you are receiving 3G and that the phone calls out correctly and receives calls correctly.
Also, you can go to Settings> About Phone> Status and see information on the phone and network. You might find some of the information you're looking for there. If you're looking specifically for 3G you would see something related to UMTS or HSPA.
Hope you figure it out, good luck.
Yes Rogers is a GSM provider. Rogers has the same bands as AT&T. So I'm assuming as long as I see 3G data on the device, it does have the correct 3G bands. Is there anything else I need to look or check for on the Google One before buying?

I would turn it off and on making sure you don't see anything odd on the boot up and check the volume buttons. If he's selling the desk dock with it drop it in the dock and make sure it charges. Also check all of the soft buttons at the bottom of the phone. They're touch sensitive and you don't want to get home and realize the home button doesn't work at all.
Besides that I don't know what else to look for. Maybe try opening web pages, a you tube video, check for audio, etc. You might also want to double check which version of Android it's running so you know if it's stock or if it's a modified ROM.
Also, I have a AT&T Nexus One so I looked for the number you listed. I pulled off the battery door and behind the battery in the top left corner was PB99110 which you mentioned in your first post. It should be written in gray lettering on the black portion below the barcodes. Looks like if you see those numbers you should be good to go on Rogers.
"sola fide" thanks for your help. Good advice on turning the phone off and on. It does come with a charging dock but we're nowhere near a location that has a power supply so I can't test that out. I will do my usual checks when I buy a used phone, test the browser, music player to make sure the speakers are working fine, make a test call, etc. Now that I know there are issues with the power button ad soft keys, I'll test those out more. He said he never modded the phone so I'm assuming if I see 2.1 Eclair on the device, it's the stock rom.
Thanks for confirming PB99110 is the correct model for Rogers & AT&T.
Modding =/= Updating. It could be running froyo or gingerbread

The N1 got over the air updates up to Android 2.3.6 and I believe it is version GRK39. If you are running that, it should be the latest officially supported version.

Thanks for confirming that. I did end up getting the N1 and it is running 2.3.6. I want to root it to CyanogenMod but I don't feel comfortable doing it by myself. I'll wait when my brother pops by and get him to help me out. I never rooted an Android before so that's why.

It is actually pretty simple to get up and running (the hardest being getting the Android SDK set up on your computer). You can check out the instructions yourself here...
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Nexus_One:_Full_Update_Guide
I would recommend following the Amon_RA steps, as it is a little less confusing.

Thanks for the link and the advice. I still feel more comfortable with my brother's help. Once it's done, then I might feel more confident in rooting my HTC Amaze, if there are roms for that phone. I haven't looked into that yet.
I'm having problems Installing a Custom Recovery Image. Could someone please help me?
Thanks
Please omit my previous post. I successfully rooted my phone to CM7! This is the first time I ever rooted a phone. Loving it so far!!!
You should try the MIUI rom, I have the latest one and its great in every aspect, otherwise, if you like a more 'clean' look try the Oxygen rom.

Miui is like having a iPhone with Widgets of android. Its little simpler. But since you been using android, u will like cm7. Its faster and smoother with more options. Cm has all the goodies. U will enjoy it more. If not stock I will not use any other rom then CyanogenMod.

If Miui is like having an iPhone with widgets of Anrdoid then I'm not gonna like that. I have the iPhone4 (which is up for sale, lol) and I find it boring. So far I'm really liking CM7. One thing I did notice after I rooted the phone is my speakers distorts sometimes when I play music. Is this a known issue?

I don't play alot of music on my speaker. I use the headphones. I am not real picky with sound and stuff. As long as it works. But distortion is not good though. You will love CM7 and more to come.
Oh yeah I also had iPhone4s. I buy iPhones so I can sell it and profit from it. I have a reserve for my next tech gadget. LOL.

I think it was me who caused the distortion. I was messing around with the phone equalizers and enabled bass boost and also had the equalizer set on bass booster. I just changed a few settings and it sounds better. I'm hoping it was my mess up and not the speakers. I really like CM7 and I'm sure I'll come to love it.
And what is your next tech gadget?
I think I got hosed. When I was asking the seller if everything was working fine on the N1 he assured me everything is working perfectly fine, even the soft keys. I tested out the phone thoroughly before buying. Everything seemed to me working fine when I was testing it out. But you can't really tell if a certain function will continue to work as I continue to use the phone. Now I'm having problems with the back soft key. I have to hit it a few times before it responds. I tried hitting it harder or at different angles and it doesn't make a difference. Any suggestions? Am I screwed?
Hi all,
I am fairly new to modding and would like to ask a quick question that may be simple for some of you.
I have a MT4G "Glacier" and I did some steps found on this forum to root and install a custom firmware on my phone. For the past two weeks, I must have installed about 28 ROMS. Yeah, I know... I have too much free time.
Here is the issue. I have not found a single rom that can do it all. With some roms, my 4G speed don't work. With others, my screen flickers too. The last one I installed, doesn't have sense. No matter what I do, I can't get a rom where my 4G speed works, which I can't live without since I use my phone as hotspot all the time.
The rom that I like the most was [ROM] [ICS] Glacier_One_V_1.3 (9/24/2012) because it has BEATS audio, is based on ICS and it has sense 4.0 which looks and works great. I would love to find one that has all the bells and whistles like this one, but where I can still use my 4G speeds and my screen is not flashing all the time.
I understand that the RADIO is what controls the WIFI, cell signal, etc. Can I update the radio, for one that currently works under Gingerbread into this rom without messing anything up?
If so, how will I go about it and what things do I need to get? Please keep in mind that I already flashed back to stock and I am very comfortable with flashing now, but I don't know much about what goes inside the ROM itself.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Manny
Let me jump in before Jack shreds you for ignorance. The radio IS NOT part of your ROM and has nothing to do with your wifi, gps, the space station or anything other than cell reception (as much as software can). Changing it can be beneficial, but is also dangerous. A failed install means a permanently broken phone. Explain what you mean about not getting 4G.

Appreciate you saving my skin there. Sorry for my ignorance.
What I meam by no 4g speed is, my signal bar on the top right of the phone, almost always reads 4g and get fast browsing speeds on my phone. I can tether my internet to my laptop and it runs great on my stock Ginger.
The moment I go to custom ROM, I can only get 3g and is not just display issues, because the speed is slow based on speedtest.net.
Makes sense now?

Hmm, well, I'm not aware of speed issues on ICS, at least not anymore. However, if you're having issues with it you might try a Gingerbread ROM like Android Revolution HD or Insert Coin.
If you plan on sticking with ICS, you might try the "3G Hacks" in Pimp my ROM. 3G and 4G run off the exact same radio, but a value or two in the ROM may, I repeat MAY, affect the speed. What kind of speed differences are you seeing? Are you comparing these at a similar time of day?
Also, holy crap. You said CFW. I haven't seen that term since my old PSP hacking days. Good times.
Sent from my myTouch 4g using xda app-developers app
I am comparing at relatively the same timed, days and locations. Office versus home, etc.
I will flash againg ICS and test your recommendations. Thanks for your help.
Compare 10 runs back-to-back, same time, same day, same place. That would be a good basis to discuss something.
For all the rest: no ICS ROM will work properly for you. If you want stability - drop to Gingerbread.
About the radio - estallings15 already answered you. You're looking in the wrong places.
"4G" mark on the signal bar means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING on this phone. 4G means something where "4G" stands for "LTE", which is a different set of bands and different transceivers. This phone doesn't have LTE, nor does T-Mobile AFAIK. So it's just an icon. But - make sure you have "H" showing instead on custom ROMs (HSDPA mode). It should show up when the phone starts actively using data.
This makes perfect sense. I really appreciate your prompt response and suggestions.
Back to flashing.
