So I just updated to the cm9 rom and I was wondering why I can't put multiple application on my desktop at once. With honeycomb you could bring up the app screen then the 5 home screens would come under them and you could fling apps on them. That was one of my favorite features. Now I have to touch and hold one app at a time like on my phone. So is that a cm9 thing or a ice thing? If so I might flash back to honeycomb. Thanks guys.

this is more an ICS feature, it actually renders the change more like the gingerbread or mobile experience. This phenonemon occurs even in EOS ics release, and theirs is very close to source with just a few good EOS additions. Honestly, not being a pain but really that seems like an insignificant issue unless you are changing your homescreen ALL the time.. Most set it up once or a few times not enough to need all screens immediately... Also, i think the manner in which that occurs is due to the launcher in Honeycomb, with the new launcher for ICS this is different, for that to work maybe a port of the honeycomb launch would be all you need to have this feature again...
i'm looking forward to see CM9 or even CM7 in this beauty to unlock its full potential and ... be free from TouchWiz
Well, I would see CM7 as big step down from the stock 3.2 OS. And, I doubt there will be a CM9 until Samsung releases an ICS update. So, maybe by May?
I think the release of ics will be near to the release of sgs2 ics .
And thats begin or end of 2nd quartal 2012.

Samsung won't issue a ICS for the original Tab but there is already a version working for it (although not final yet)
The issue is more about having a base large enough of 7.7 users and developers to make it happen, which probably won't be really soon given the fact it;s not sold yet in the US and in many other counties
That's one of the reasons why I am not in a hurry yet to replace my original Tab

Yeah, but we were talking about the 7.7 in the first place. Samsung has already indicated that it will be among the devices that it will update to ICS.
I'm running ICS on my OG 7" and it's pretty smooth, but yeah, Samsung has pretty much abandoned that device.

The topic is about CM for the Tab 7.7
And I keep my assertion that you don't need to wait for Samsung's implementation of ICS for the Tab 7.7to ave CM on the 7.7 (And I gave as example the original tab)

Pretty much depends on whether they want to sell this beautiful device. If they don't want to sell it I would go with Q2, if they do, I would hurry up otherwise this thing will be born dead. No rational being would consider an old OS device when there are newer ones in the market (which will definitely happen before the end of Q1)
And it is pretty much clear this device needs ICS badly. If a user in a store will compare the 1.4 ghz tab to a 1.2 GHz Transformer Prime it is evident he should go with the Prime now.
Also I would say that for tablets an update is much more important than for a phone. Web browsing for example, is boosted enormously on ICS. Considering that much users buy a tablet for web browsing it would be a no brainer to boost this 1.4 GHz of 7.7" amoled goodness
Am I the only one who isn't all that bothered by TouchWiz? Not the launcher of course, I've never been a fan of that... However, once you replace the home launcher with something better, TouchWiz isn't really that bad. I mean, the quick launch apps on the menu bar is a brilliant idea, and I use it all the time! It's awesome now that you can customize the Samsung apps there too now. Now all the quick launch bar needs is support to launch any app/widget you want, and it'd be perfect!
Now don't get me wrong, I love me some vanilla Android, and you can bet your toes that if CM9 becomes available for the 7.7, I'll be at least trying it out to see how it compares. That said, I already know I will be missing that quick launch bar... Oh if only there were something similar, but for an AOSP!! Then again, once you reach that point, it's more a question of which would you prefer: A TouchWiz themed AOSP, or an AOSP themed TouchWiz?

Agreed. Just replace the launcher and you have something really good. I actually like some of the Samsung's apps (Typically the email client is fantastic and I haven't found anything that comes close to t on the market). It is the same for many other Samsung proprietary apps that work only with the Touchwiz workframe. And I regret these apps...
HOWEVER performance wise (and battery life wise) CM or other variants (I am using BOCA) are just night and day with Samsung's ROMs... Maybe the 7.7 has so much horsepower that it doesn't matter too much (although I am sure at one stage it will). But clearly for the original Tab I just cannot go back to Samsung base ROM even though I regret the apps...
Would be fantastic if I could instal ICS on it right now. Is it already possible to instal CM9 on the tab 7.7? Or maybe a "leaked" version from Samsung. Hope touchwize wont lag as much as it does now. Device is rooted.

cm7 is based on gingerbread so does anyone really want to go from android 3.2 to 2.3?
cm9 will come to the device but as for now samsung is working on ics for sgs2.
when they finish sgs2 update they will release ics for note and g 7.7

I'm currently one of those
i'm so drooling for the Asus Prime, but... the only thing that is keeping me away from purchasing the Asus Prime, is the nVidia Tegra, which is ironic as it's the most powerful Quad core out there right now
but nVidia has bad reputation in Android for NEVER releasing source codes, no source codes = cheesy 3rd development support
and also because the Prime lacks OLED display
I might change my mind if i see CM9 for the ASUS Prime, but for now Gtab 7.7 is pretty much the nicest thing on the market with the largest SAMOLED+ HD display which is what i'm shopping for.
i'm indifferent about TW or CM
TW bonus is really on all the extra hardware codecs it comes with it, which is great if you plan to watch a lot of video on the tablet
CM on the other hand lacks those extra codecs, being AOSP based, but it makes up for it for all the build in features, settings, customization, and power
of course TW based ROMs can be OC too, but there's always all that extra stuff that are not really wanted included, all the stuff that i usually end up replacing with 3rd party apps or prefer the ones that comes from stock AOSP better.

Good points indeed! Normally I'm pretty well set as long as I have root and CWM. Most of my personal customization's don't go beyond changing the launcher anyway. I do play a lot of video's so I guess that's why I'm happy with TW.
Now that I do have both root and CWM, I'm a pretty happy camper!
At this point, a TW ICS can only make things better (provided I can still keep CWM and Root of course!)
If you guys seen the new gadget Asus Memo on CES2012 you may already have recognised it is a great implementation of ICS which i think might be what Galaxy Note should be with ICS upgrade instead of regular touchwiz phone interface. What do you guys think about it? Maybe we can effect the development progress of ICS for Galaxy Note in this direction. For those who haven't seen the new OS on Asus Memo could check out this early preview video :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=su5yjTGKt3k
I'm still hoping for some kind of dual boot option. With the option to run it as a phone, or as a tablet. It's pretty sad to see that Samsung is gonna put a lot of TouchWiz stuff over the phone's ICS.
That Asus looks very nice though. Smooth as hell, nice design etc.
I would love to see that on my Note.
I think the tablet+phone can be arranged simply by adding a button on top bar to change dpi from 320 to 213 then all apps will suit themselves in tablet mode and booting is not even needed just a simple system restart will do. Touchwiz looks terrible on 213dpi tho so there has to be an improved version of touchwiz to adapt itself to resolution changes or they may better leave touchwiz for a better ui like asus memo has. I like it cause u can still see icons in normal size yet u still have capability of all those features comes with at least honeycomb version like functional buttom bar.
Why cant we have the option of a pure ics experience or one with touchwiz.....i loved windows mobile for that.......i hate touchwiz....the moment i got my note i installed a launcher! Hope samsung reads these threads
I hope ICS release for Gnote would not be exactly the same as latest leaked roms for Galaxy S II as published on this short review video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YotByxd3Bo . This looks so like recent gingerbread roms we been already using. This is perfectly normal as nobody expects tablet specific features on Galaxy S 2 but in GNote case we all wanna see a brand new ui taking advantage of ics like Asus did on their "Memo" devices.
I've just seen this latest Galaxy S2 leaked ics video and worried Gnote ICS release may not come with some tablet specific features to feel more like honeycomb ui instead of regular touchwiz interface.

I don't understand what problems you have with Touchwiz. The first thing I do after installing a new rom is just delete all stuff related with Touchwiz (even the Touchwiz launcher) and then install another launcher like Go Launcher Ex. In fact Galaxy Note does not need the bloatware software provided by Samsung at all but SMemo and a couple of programs that you can run with other launchers.
So in case Samsung releases the ICS with Touchwitz I will delete it.

Even with another launcher it will still be a phone with huge screen. I'd rather like to see a tablet-like ui like Asus Memo has. I don't have any problems with touchwiz but I think they should at least add a buttom bar like honeycomb and ics tablets have.

Here comes a trolling scoop .......
IT IS A PHONE WITH A HUGE SCREEN......
I don't know for you, but I bought it because it is a phone.
If not I would have bought something like a HTC flyer.....taller screen and less expensive...
A phone with a huge screen deserves buttom bar like ics imao considering hardware specs and so much space avaible on the so called huge screen ! Don't you guys think so? They have buttom bar on the rumor device Galaxy S 3 so why not for flag ship Gnote?

Hello guys, my name is ps3cfw, and i'm willing to buy a Nexus 7 really soon, but as I'm not very expert with android, and the only phone i have is an LG Optimus Net/Link (AKA LG P690), that has only one custom kernel, one buggy cm9 and one buggy cm10, I usually don't have much choices with that phone, but I clearly noticed that this isn't the same with the Nexus 7, so I got some questions.
As I don't care about the battery and I want to pull out the best from the Nexus 7, and enjoy it as a full tablet as much as I can, I got these questions:
1) What ROM Should I use to obtain the best speed from this tablet?
2) Together with the ROM, what kernel should I use to, again, take the best out of this tablet?
I repeat, i just want to take out the best from this tablet, so I'm likely going to overclock it as well.
Thanks to everyone.
Guess this answers your question as well.
I haven't overclocked any PU, because I don't think it's necessary right now. It runs, as already stated in the mentioned thread, really smooth.
With PA + Apex you can create a better hybrid UI interface.. smaller nav+statusbar, no 'phone dock' etc. I don't really like the tablet UI on my nexus, but love the ability to toggle tablet UI in certain apps.
This is my home screen right now.

AOKP is really nice. The latest build has tablet UI baked in. I'm really enjoying it.
I have always gone on the assumption that the dev knows which kernel is best for his ROM, so I have never felt the need to change it.

I'm pretty sure of this fact, but I really want to pull out the BEST from this tablet, I definitely need high overclock for personal reasons, and i don't know what kernel brings the best from the Nexus 7 (because, I repeat, i'm coming from a phone which has NO SERIOUS DEVELOPERS, and just one pretty messed up kernel.)
Just wondering.. Does anybody else know that their beloved Tablet UI will NOT be in the Official 4.2 update? The New notification widgets wont be able to support the tablet ui Notification area. What are your thoughts on this?
I want a tablet, not a bigger phone. I don't like the new UI and I hope that Asus will keep the current one or at least provide it as an option.

more than the launcher, i think the concern would be the change to the notification bar, because in 4.2 there is a status bar and the lower bar are just the 3 buttons, basically a big phone, maybe asus willl find a way to theme nicely the two panel pulldown thingie!
androidheadlines . com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/tablets-pulldown.png
Y should Asus change something (except the bloatware)? I think they didn't do it in 4.1 so they won't do it in 4.2 except the navbar button style... - only good thing would be to get a bigger area for the top bar, because I nearly can't touch it because of the case which is a bit awful, but this UI is awesome, you just have to use it for a time and also on your phone - navbar buttons in the middle is a bit awful with dock use, that's the only disadvantage...
I will stay on 4.1 if we don't get tablet UI on 4.2, or before someone will made a port of tablet UI for 4.2, the phablet UI just sucks!
On my cusions nexus 10 its the phablet ui, you can't change the LCD density to make it tabletui, you can only make the phabletui bigger or smaller
It is highly likely that Asus keeps the tablet ui. No sense in changing the UI that radically in an ota, the non techy people would have a hard time with it.
Though for the record, the hybrid ui is great on the Nexus 7.
That sucks...no tablet ui supported.
Honestly its weird but I like tablet ui on my note 2 and phablet ui on my transformer.

Phablet UI is a mess. It is silly to have such UI on 10 inch screen. I cannot be more user unfriendly. It is total disaster from ergonomic point of view I hope Asus will keep tablet UI or I will either stay with 4.1 on use some custom ROM.

Remember, they're appealing to the masses by keeping the ui consistent between tablets and phones. However, i don't see why they couldn't remove the status bar and put the buttons in the middle or slightly shifted to the left, keeping the bottom bar ( its lots of unused space) and toggles on the left of the buttons.
