Nexus 7 vs Galaxy Tab 2? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys.
New to the nexus 7 forums. But, i wanted to ask a simple question..
which is better??
Nexus 7 or Galaxy Tab 2??
Well, Nexus 7 is pretty cheap and i've been wondering why.
Plus, When will Nexus 7 be available in stores for India and Dubai??
Thanks.
M567

Obviously Nex7 because you will be able to update it to android 5.X.X when it comes out.

Has this been confirmed somewhere? The N7 doesn't have expandable storage, which means if I buy it would have the be the 16GB one.

Yup. It has no micro-sd card.
But can we still copy files on it?
Sorry for that n00b question.
BTW, anyone knows when it's out in dubai or india?

If you can live with 16gb then the nexus is the better choice. Tab 2 has an older processor and inferior screen.

Pros
-its a nexus
-better screen
-faster processor
-its a GED
Cons
-limited storage
-skeptical build quality issues

I considered the Tab 2 as it was the same price as the 16gb N7 (both $249) and it had expandable storage. I bought the N7... I feel I made the right choice.

Okk...
I guess i'll consider the n7 more than the tab 2.
it has usb mass storage right?

If you root it and get an OTG adapter. I bought two for like $1.50 with free shipping.

Dubai Dubai 16GB AED 1299
India India 16GB INR 21465
I don't live in either of those areas so don't know how reputable the retailers are, But a quick search on Google and thats what I found

After buying an N7 on release date and within 3 weeks my screen cracking to bits I too am wondering which is the better tab. Agreed the N7 has better specs power wise but, I think that the galaxy tab will have superior build quality including gorilla glass which is now my main concern.

How did that happen? Thanks

If you want to use 3G,You need to buy a 3G+Wifi Nexus 7 which is a few dollars more than the original one. Check here.

I bought both!!! Tab 2 for my aunt Sally because I could use Team viewer Quick Support (only supports Samsung) to help her remotely. N7 for myself. Played with both and without a doubt N7 wins hands down!!!!!

Looks like the Nexus 7 is winning more votes.
Since it's even getting more development.

Do you like waiting for almost 6 months for an update or do you want it to be on your nexus the next day after it comes out? And nexus has no stupid ass Samsung crap in it. Go nexus you won't regret.

I just sold my galaxy tab plus (very similar to tab 2). Couldn't stand the random reboots or the lack of support from Samsung. I heard last week that they are finally rolling out ics for the 3g version in Europe. Still nothing for the US or even the wifi version.
I think I am going to try to stick with nexus devices in the future.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
I've had my Galaxy Tab 10.1 since last fall and I've never had a problem with it other than the limiting 16GB of space. No random restarts or reboots. I dumped the TW launcher for GO Launcher HD and never looked back. I barely remember what TouchWiz looks like.
I'm looking for a smaller tablet or PMP right now. After months of dealing with the lack of space on my Tab, the lack of storage on the Nexus killed that from me right from the start. At least offer a 32GB model for $299. Not all of us are surrounded by hundreds of free wifi hubs where we can stream video on the go. I want that stuff on my tablet. And with HD movies around 5-6GB each, it's not unreasonable to want more than a solitaire app and one movie on a tablet.
OTG cable and a usb stick...

Can you get more memory by removing apps on the nexus 7.I saw the nexus 7 8gb have only 5.9gb
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
I think you're better off putting all media in the cloud, and only apps on the nexus. Then figure out how to use a usb stick during the times you might need your media offline. That was my plan with another tablet anyway, but I never actually needed to use my flash drive... In over a year... Its good to know it can be made available if you do need it though. I did use over 8gb space though, so I bought 16gb nexus. I am gifting the 8gb nexus to someone who uses a kindle fire without running out of room. The device you need depends entirely on your usage and availability of wifi or data tethering.

Do you regret buying a N7 due to not using it enough?

Hello,
So, topic pretty much says it all.
I would like to buy a Nexus 7, but because I always carry my smartphone with me and it pretty much does everything I need it to, I am afraid of spending the money and not using it enough to justify the cost.
So, what's your case? For what do you use your tablet?
Do you regret buying it?
Cheers

I have always preferred using my phones over my laptop....since I bought the N7 not only have I not even glanced at my laptop I haven't been using my phones that much either...which has been great for their battery life I use the N7 for pretty much everything....paying bills, browsing, texting, etc...which are all the things I did on the phones. If I didn't need the laptop for Odin or kies, I would sell it.

I've carried an iPad with me constantly for the last couple of years, so I knew exactly how I would use my N7. At work for note-taking in meetings, checking email when away from my desk, logging on to my Citrix desktop, listening to music or watching a video when work gets boring In personal time, I watch videos and play music, check email, read (books, magazines), browse the net and play games.
It's never far from my side and gets plenty of use! Justifying the $300 price tag vs. $500-600 for an iPad (I paid more than that for my iPad 1 a couple of years back) is a no-brainer for me.
Don't regret it one bit. My PC is getting far less use at home now (good considering I spend 8 hours a day in front of one at work) and my has been relegated to phone duties.
I don't regret it at all. I use my tablet pretty much every day for most of the day. Like many others have said, I rarely use my laptop for anything anymore unless I have a ton of typing to do.
Not one bit! I haven't been able to put it down since the day I brought it. Sold my laptop and my desktop gets used less and less. I've also been using my Evo LTE as just a phone now lol. Excellent purchase in my book. Trust me you won't be disappointed. If you ever find yourself not using it, you can easily sell it and recoup some of your money.

The thing is I previously had an HTC Sensation as a phone and an HTC flyer as a tablet.
Was using almost always the sensation because the flyer always stayed at home.
Ended up selling both and got a galaxy note to try and have the best of both worlds.
Granted the nexus 7 is a different beast from the flyer, but I fear the same might happen...
Thinking about selling the note and pick a nexus as a smaller phone and a nexus 7.
I am afraid to end up feeling the nexus is too small and the nexus 7 too big to carry around.
Cheers

I have the GNote and GNex and after using the GNote everything seems small, but the GNex feels like a toy after I've been using the GNote all week. I wish the GNex was a little bigger....even my sgs2 looks bigger next to the GNex, even though it's only 4.5.Hoping they make the next nexus at least 4.8....although "leaks" of specs are rumored to be the same size as the GNex.
Since I got my nexus 7 I don't think I've put it down unless its for charge wile I sleep. Rarely use my xperia s unless I'm out and about. Ive never used my laptop much before anyway. Unless it was for uni. I carry my nexus all over the house. Whether its for readings books, browsing tapatalk or just generally browsing. When I hold my xperia after the n7 it feels so small lol.

Mine has replaced my phone for everything but calling, texting and navigation. Gaming, web, reading ebooks and comics...all more comfortable on the N7.
I'm actually thinking of selling/trading my GNote and getting a Nexus.
I can do everything I did with the SPen just as easily on my N7 with a standard stylus too and my storage needs are happily met with my external drive.
Love the Note but it's usefulness as a phablet isn't there for me anymore.

It all depends on what your current phone is, If it's a SGSIII or other high end device then the Nexus 7 isn't much of a improvement other then having a bigger screen.
I actually still use my SGSIII more then the Nexus 7 as I can do everything and more (like being able to pocket it) on the phone while the Nexus 7 is now just a coffee table family tablet. Games are kind of nice but some of them are very hard to control due to placement of virtual joypads.
I guess I'll either give away the Nexus 7 or figure some other use for it.

There is no comparing a sgs3 to a pure Google tablet. Just no comparison.
Even my GNote at 5.3 is isn't useable as a tablet. Don't know why you think the N7 isn't much of an improvement over a 4.87 ics, touchwiz PHONE.

Buying a Nexus soon.

Hello I plan to buy a nexus 4 next week but i dont if i should buy the 8gb just to save a little money & for it to come faster or should i just buy the 16gb ?
I think you should get the 16gb if you have the money in my case I wanted to save as much as I could and got the 8gb I dont store too many songs and always backup my pics to the cloud. Still have 4 gb of free memory.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
You really need to give more info on how you plan on using the device. 8GB is just enough for a decent music library, a fair number of smaller apps and possibly a large HD game or a movie.
16GB is about right for me with my music, a movie, two large games (>1GB each), a Titanium backup, a CWM backup, some photos/videos and other random downloaded files.
better to shell out the extra cash, then to find out that you should have bought the 16GB.
Buy the 16gb if you ever plane to play on the nexus or you listening to music offline.

I stream my music online so i wont need to use the storage on the nexus for music. But i also heard that 16gb takes a longer time to be delivered? is this true?
Mine came the day after I ordered it. Earlier there was much higher demand for the 16GB N4 so it took longer to deliver. Right now not many people will be buying N4s so I don't see why it would take any longer than the 8GB version to be delivered.
I've the 16Go model since February and I'm really happy with it. My previous phone had 8Go of storage and I feel it was quite short for my use. Now I haven't anymore problem of storage.
The nexus came to me in 5 days after ordering on the playstore (sunday included).

I have the 16gb, and it has 12.something available gbs, so I expect the 8gb to be at around 4-5gb of available space. Keep that in mind, it's pretty low.
5.67 gigs available to user..enough for apps but maybe not enough for music and pics..

OS takes 3 GB.
Because we don't want a massive 5.5 inch display, we want something more portable that we can use one handed. And 16GB is more then enough. Unless you have like 20 GB of music (I only keep 3 GB of music or so my my phone), you really don't need an SD card slot. And Nexus updates and AOSP really top it off for us on XDA, not to mention the price without a contract. You can't even put apps on the SD card anymore, so SD cards are pretty much useless now. On a tablet though, I understand the need for an SD card for movies and whatnot. 16GB also does not make a device outdated. People don't look at 16GB iPhone 5s and think its outdated (Well the hardware at least...).

Because to some people space is not the first reason why they buy Nexus 4. They dont want to store entire music collection, or whole library of videos, or lifetime of pictures on their phone. If you lose it; good luck finding it with all your precious personal data.
Its common sense not sure why its a hard question for you.

That is pretty much it. I realy don't feel like I'm lacking any space on my nexus 4 and I barely even use cloud services. The only cloud service I actually use is google drive but that's just to back up my pictures and documents in case I lose my phone.
I remember when I had my Nokia 8 with 16gb onboard storage and a 32gb SD card and I barely used half of the total storage space that was available. So 16gb on the Nexus 4 is more than enough.

I didn't even notice that having a more limited space (by that I mean cant-be-expanded space, not the 16gb, 16gb is well enough) would work that nice for my own organization.
I'm one that still have a 500gb desktop, a 320gb laptop and some SD cards for data transport. And not really because I can't afford more. It's just that, every time I almost fill up a drive/device and think on expanding it, I happen to see how much useless clutter I'm keeping in life. I'm happier since I took the detachment path.
