I haven't gotten the update yet but for those who have, please share impressions. Good, bad or whatever. Given how underwhelming stock ICS is on this tab, I wonder how stock JB stacks. I'm glad this is officially out because chances are I'll resort to an official JB custom ROM that'll make this tab sing than stick with stock.

Just got the update. I've tooled around just a few minutes, but other than the unlock function, I can't really see much different. It definitely is not an overwhelming change like ICS was for me. I'll come back with more as I spend more time with it.
I am looking forward to installing Google Now, however, that would be great on my Razr Maxx too.
Google now didn't come with update?!?!?

Isn't Google now an in built feature? Should be somewhere in the notification drawer.

The interface hasn't changed but after my second reboot, this thing is runniing SO much faster. I can actaully update apps from the play store without the dreaded Wait/Close prompt. Transitions are much smoother (Animation for changing Home Screens and swipping through my app list.

Some changes i've noticed:
- it runs smoother than .30, really smoother, at least smoother. i noticed slow-ness when open quickoffice hd in power saving mode when it was .30, now with the same power saving mode, it's faster (like about 2-3 seconds), quickoffice is kinda a heavy apps i think, of course you won't have any problem in balanced or performance mode.
- new animation when open or exit apps, and i like it, of course the animation runs smooth too
- you can now disable the smartdimmer feature in settings->asus customized settings (thanks to jgaf he figured out this)
- because of google new voice search, we now have a new text-to-speech engine (the same as google voice search), and she sounds "sweet", the old one is gone, imo the old one sucks, can't really here anything, this new one is better than siri, sounds better, at least with the English US i believe.
- of course we have a new google voice search and google now, which is the feature i've been waiting for, help me practice my english
- looks like google has changed the "Tab UI" a little bit, for example: on .30 firmware, when you go to settings->apps you see "Downloaded", "Running", "All", to switch between these "tabs" you have to tap on them, but now with jelly bean, you can swipe left and right to switch, also the "tab menu" looks nicer (like windows phone i think)
so... no flash player with this update?? I think i might skip it just because of that.

Do you notice any performance issues when you are running your usual apps or games as compared to before?
The browser doesn't do all of the lag dancing that it used to do. Haven't seen the wait/close dialog yet. There's some different animations in your installed apps section the Play store when updating an app. ES File Explorer seems to be having some issues though as it's forced closed twice while trying to copy files from my home network, something I've never seen ever. Been using it on three phones and this tablet and never experienced a problem until now.

Yes, some of the findings may be placebo effects but when everyone chimes in, we will be able to sort out the real changes. That is the idea of the thread.
The Netflix app shows my queue, allows me to search and add to my queue, has recommendations, etc. It's just that when I go to play a movie it spins and then says there is a network error. I think we're getting Netflix very, very soon.

Could be, but I know I was getting a bit frustrated with overall performance (delays, lags, hesitation, etc.) and don't seem to feel the same way now. I do think things are a bit smoother, but that could also just be the post-update effect. We'll see how it runs after a few days of use.

You have to use the Videos app
Homescreen switching seems smoother, but that could definitely be placebo.
I had an issue where if the tablet was docked to the keyboard and I flip it open, the screen wouldn't read the unlock pattern for the first second or two (green lines don't show up over the dots and nothing happens). This appears to be fixed.
@jhanford reported in the "Just Got an OTA Update" thread:
So this is easily more than just a kernel update.
In addition to the kernel, there's 94 patches in /system/app alone with another 80 patches throughout the rest of the filesystem!
That's pretty impressive for an interim release especially if they do release 3.2 in the next couple of weeks.
Awesome!
The only thing I noticed out of everything is better wifi signals (through speedtests and router signal checking). I don't really know much about the rest since I took the OTA and selectively applied some patches to my Prime 1.5 ROM by using bsdiff to apply the .p files. (it has to be done with the original 8445 files, not prime 1.5 files because some prime 1.5 files are based on 8447 CN, bsdiff patch files doesn't have a md5 or crc32 hash stored on the patch file so it doesn't check for original file integrity before patching)
The update most definitely fixed my deep sleep/power on issue. A single press of the power button brings my Transformer to attention now...every time. Prior to the update, I had to press the power button multiple times.
Homescreen transitions are also very smooth now.
Im still on 3.0 it never wants to update Idk why. Any suggestion

The purpose of this thread is to inform potential ICS users on the features that will be lost after moving from HC to ICS.
The intention is to help users make an informed decision on whether to update.
Please help by listing what features are missing in the ICS update, compared to Honeycomb.
Features Lost after ICS update
1.) XBOX/PS3 controller support
2.) ??
Um... how about... stability? lol
Loved that home screen widget arrangement setup the way in which u could view the entire homescreens in a 3d like way plus I also miss some extra status bar actions.
OTA rooting
Easy way to root your device the best thing I lost in ICS is OTA rooting my device I had to used viperMOD prime to root my device it's work fine but its change my device to forced it root and it's not a OTA war

+1 - PS3 controller works fine with ICS - you need to connect it via USB cable and use it like that for about a minute. Then, when you disconnect it, you can reconnect via bluetooth by pushing the middle PS button....

Same here, had 250+ hours up time before I manually rebooted... And I use my TF all the time, for games, movies, music, note taking etc... My other TFs have a random reboot about once a week, hardly call that UN stable. Over all, ics has been fantastic for me and my 3 TFs, and considering that ics is still in its infancy, I can't wait for future releases... I think its stability will give ios a run for its money.

What makes you say that? Are there any stability issues with iOS? Also, it's not all that relevant how stable iOS is for Asus Transformer users.
It's great that your 2 TF's are stable but you can't deny that's it not like that for a good amount of people.
It took 2 HC updates to get Android stable on my TF but then it was rock solid. I like the performance of ICS and don't miss anything from HC. If only ICS were more stable (for tablets).
ICS might be in its infancy, but it won't have any chance of maturity. The next major version will be announced soon and manufacturers will turn to new devices for it. Old devices will be abandoned like usual and we'll be stuck with an infant ICS.

So what? My N7B ran for over 500h on HC without a hickup, eventually it died because I forgot to plug the charger in before I went to bed.
The fact remains, ICS is plagued by random reboots on the TF, while HC was close to rock solid.
Therefore its less stable than HC, no matter what side of the coin youre looking at.
No way to hide the status bar. I would like to be able to use the entire screen for watching videos like I could with honeycomb.
I miss Voodoo sound module support, and it seems to me that the global max volume (integrated speakers) has been reduced since ICS upgrade.
It looks like what most people are complaining about here aren't what is missing from ICS, it is simply what developers have not updated or developed to be compatible with ICS that they were used to using in HoneyComb. Like the two posters above- Voodoo sound is in the kernel..(barring the paid version) it was not something that every user could use in HC now it is lost in ICS, simply the voodoo modules changed when they updated and supercurio has yet to get it working enough to release, but it will be soon enough.
The other poster said that he misses being able to hide the status bar..it is possible (I think there is already an app that does this now), and certain ROMs can have this function added later as these commands are discovered/developed further. Example, Revolver could disable the status bar from the power menu, and AOKP for ICS (on my phone, haven't tried the TF101 version yet) can hide or show the status bar (my phone has integrated soft buttons, so showing the status bar is a new thing for it).
The main thing that HAS been lost are certain APIs that google realized had compromising code in it that would allow, for example, an advertisement in a webview application to access your contacts, data, etc. So what it is missing, in the end, might be a good thing for your security..
yeah, but what about the smooth 720p playback? previously the Transformer handles 720p youtube content very well, nowadays it just stutter on heavy scenes. Even 720p mp4 doesnt play as smooth as last time. How i miss those days when I watch 720p TV series and movies on my TF
Voodoo sound but ICS is so smooth, especially surfing the Net.
Using Teameos ROM and will never go back to Honeycomb.
I just received a brand new Tf300 a few days ago. It is the first tablet I have ever owned and don't know if the performance issues I am experiencing are actually common among other tablets. Whenever I quickly switch from one app to another, the device slows down and then I get a pop up message telling me to wait for the app or force close it. The problem gets worse when I am downloading stuff in the background. I have never had this problem before with any of the 4 android phones I have owned. Does anyone know if there is a solution to this?

Trying doing a cold boot. It also depends on what apps you are using, some might not be complete compatible. A lot of people are having problems with google chrome, also the stock browser is kind wonky. Suggest using Dolphin or Opera.
I havent seen the issue you mentioned personally yet on my TF300, however it has been mentioned a few times on other sites & reviews.
It seems to have something to do with the I/O communication to the memory while downloading/installing multiple things at once through Google Play. Its been said to have an impact on OS performace and that the "wait or FC" message is common. Just hit wait and it will be fine.
If its happening when you are idle...Id say something is running in the background you dont know about and using memory.

I actually have been doing this, but honestly I don't think this is something we should have to do after paying $400 for a brand new tablet that I would assume would be in perfect working condition right out of the box :-/

I have not had any problems switching from apps, even while updating several apps at once on the market. I guess since your Pad is practically brand new, just give it a a day or two of use and see if that helps settle down the system (with a couple of reboots in between). In worst case scenario, I would say exchange it for a new one.

Im not exactly sure that one would consider it a defect. I think its just an example with how the OS performance is affected while installing multiple apps at one time.
Id say you could avoid the problem by installing only a couple things at one time. I have an HTC phone and the same thing happens when I try to install from Google Play and tinker with other stuff at the same time.

You're probably right. Maybe it is the fact that most apps on the market are primarily made for Android phones, not android tablets. I will uninstall all apps and see if I can install one by one to see if I can find out which ones are the ones giving me problems.

I've been having exact same problems on prime (tf201) ... and on top of than random reboots, shut-offs, battery discharging, and non working gps (hardware problem)...
I came to a conclusion that asus sucks... here is why: i have two phones running ICS, and neither has this issues, and both are MUCH faster than prime / tf300 - so it is purely a bunch of software bugs, and asus had SO much time to fix them, and still people across the board have these same problems with transformers
long story short - i retuned prime, and was/am considering tf300... but it looks like i will pass..., although i really like the dock

I DONT Have those issues with my prime. not everyone has them across the board. while some do, slot don't. GPS works great with the dongle Asus sent out for free. alot of the reported issues on both prime and 300 have been reported by various other tablets and phones running ICS. doesn't matter if your two phones don't. its still widely documented ICS issues across the board on most devices running ICS. this is more of a Google issue THST needs addressing. Google is the one who created ICS. these problems are limited to only Asus tablets. just Google ICS issues and tons of hits will pop up across several different devices. Google is the one who needs to step it up and address this.
Asus is a manufacturing company. they make hardware, not software. they still try to do the best they can to solve software issues. Even Asus getting frustrated because they having to try to fix stuff THST Google should be addressing, software wise.
OK, I just had to come back after a week of using and tinkering with my TF300 and after having it factory reseted and doing a cold boot reset it now works FLAWLESSLY. I love this tablet and I have downloaded tons of games that look beautiful on it. The only thing I wish were present were a bigger selection of tablet-friendly apps on the market. I also wish Google would allow us to search apps that are designed for tablets only. I have tried using the Tablified Market app and it is just too slow in my opinion and it has no option to sort by most popular or highest rated.

JB for the N8000 is as close to flawless an update as I've ever seen. It adds a ton of new features and improves a lot of the existing ones. It improves performance too. The keyboard issue was a one time event that happened right after I updated. There's absolutely no benefit of staying on ICS.

yeah but how many apps do you have installed on your tablet for it to preform that smoothly? i'm not taking my chances because my xoom is now a useless paperweight, i don't want my note ending up the same way.

Over 100 apps and 30 home screen widgets. Most of us that have the N8000 have been on JB for quite some time. If there were issues they'd have been reported.
I had lag but realised it was only when using Chrome. Using the stock browser now everything is fine.

yeah tell me about it, i use firefox now, i still have to put up with the lag in the os but at least i don't have to put up with chrome anymore.
anyways if i do take chances with my note is there anyway to roll back the firmware to ICS if i get any problems?
i have roughly 82 apps installed on this xoom and that's far less than what is installed on your note and it's completely unresponsive, i have 2 pages of widgets installed on the xoom that is impressive if your note is not lagging at all, does it lag or freeze when you type? can you type fast and edit sentences without lag? what about the process button? can you swipe away processes without it freezing? can you unlock your note lockscreen without lockup? sorry for all the questions, i just want to make sure i make the right decision to install jellybean on my new tablet or not.

Why are you making such a big deal out of this? Dozens of N8000 owners have been on JB without issue for weeks. It sucks that you had issues with Motorola but that doesn't mean that every device you use in the future will have issues when updated. I have more apps and widgets than you and haven't had a single issue with JB other than the one time event of having to reinstall the language for handwriting and clear cache and data on the Samsung keyboard. Both took all of two minutes. After using JB no one could pay me to go back to ICS on the Note. What you do or don't do is your business and I'm only posting this so that your comments don't freak other people out.

I did experience same way ... keyboard lagging but actually JB UK version is better than german version ... less keyboard lagging ...
but I decide to back to ICS ... keyboard typing is very responsive ...
To back to ICS is easy ... you just need re flash again with ICS Rom via odin ... some time /not alwayas after re flash back to ICS .. it will hang at Samsung logo ... :fingers-crossed: but don't worry ... just go to "Recovery system Mode" press power + down button and "wipe data/factory reset" and reboot ... and every thing will be fine ... back to ICS
still need help?
Hey. I dunno if this has been said but it takes time to read. I have also had this problem before and got the same problem again after a factory reset. Couldnt remember how I fixed it but checked the setting a bit and found a solution that at least works on the GN.
First enable developer options in the settings (to do this go into "About Phone" under settings and tap model number till its activated). Go into developer options and check the box for "Force GPU rendering". After that your keyboard should be smooth again. Fast typing is too much for the CPU? Anyways, hope this fixes your problem.

I hate Chrome on mobile. It is next to useless and with it being available on the play store I no longer want to offer it at all in CROMI going forward.
Give me a good reason to keep supporting it otherwise it goes!

I don't like Chrome either..removed it and using Dolphin now...it is the best browser sofar I think.
I use chrome. It's quite bad to be honest but i like the UI and it's "trusted". Browsing in general is quite poor on stock

Let's say it wasn't installed by the ROM by default - you'd still be able to install it from the google play store or from a titanium backup though right? What does it offer over the stock browser which is significantly faster than chrome on all web pages I have seen, offers full screen options, java, flash and bookmark synching with PC chrome. I really can't see why anyone prefers mobile chrome.
Stock browser hangs a lot when you're stock and unrooted. I've just got used to chrome now i guess

Firefox runs the way I want. I've had flickering issues on chrome on multiple devices.
Yeah, chrome for tablets has always been below par. Firefox ftw!

I've tried other browsers but I just keep coming back to Chrome. Its just a personal preference.
Mobile Chrome sucks a lot. Stock is way better when you're rooted.
I thinks there's no need to put it in your rom.
If people want to use it, they'll know how to download it. It'll cut down on ROM size anyway.

How do you do that?
Off with Chromes head !!!
I mean well yeh the stock browser works great as long as your not on the stock rom.
(I'm on 4.2 and atm don't use your ROM), BUT why do you want to remove Chrome? It's just one apk of your ROM and doesn't slow down the tablet, ppl who don't want it should just not use it (put in Aroma Installer so that they just don't have it if they don't want it )
But I prefer Chrome over Stock, as Stock also with all this tweaks etc. just didn't have such a nice user surface and also felt smoother (had bit longer to load)

Chrome is now 20mb and is available on the market. That is the main reason for wanting to remove it. However I have been using it exclusively for the last few days and am quite enjoying it. It is nowhere as smooth as stock (can't agree with you there) but where it does well is on sites with java script. The one failing of the stock browser is it is seriously buggy with js.
I did lots of testing on this a few days ago, all tests were done in the same part in my house so it was fair, and the test was loading xda forum with all topics, boat, stock, angel and firefox all failed after 90 seconds they were still loading and i got bored of waiting lol, dolphin (the latest with flash took on average 45 seconds but chrome killed it by loading the forum in around 25 seconds, i did t his test lots of times and as controlled as possible, i shut all other apps and the free ram was always close to 450mb so i suggest chrome for most things but if you need flash then dolphin is the browser for you, or do it like me and have both and use the best for the task
