So around 1:31 tonight, my nexus went a little nuts, notifying me every second or so that shell had been denied superuser permissions. check my such log, and there are a few hundred entries in a couple of minutes tonight, and half a dozen last night. What gives?

Was using paranoid with trinity 64 with to OC. Ditched trinity for the time being, as this never happened using paranoid alone, though I guess it could also be the too manager?

I've always had this on my Sensation, accompanied by a bit of slowdown. I've not been able to deduce why.
This morning... I too noticed it happening on my nexus7. All I've done is 'fastboot oem unlock', install root, cwm, adaway, rommanager & titanium backup. The upgrade to android 4.1.2 also happenned.
The SuperUser Elite app shows several dozen entries a minute for 'shell' with no explanation.

Dozens a minute? Lucky! My SuperUser log flooded to its capacity of 200 within half that time.
It seems I trigger it by using a multimedia app like YouTube, or Play Music whilst being connected to Wi-Fi. And when this happens it just destroys any fluidity to watching a video or playing a song, it's so frustrating. It's like buffering an MP3 over EDGE 2G.
And occasionally, it changes from denying its permissions to granting it, both resulting in a performance slowdown.

Are you on stock?
Did it start after upgrading the ota update?
If so I'd try flashing superuser zip cuz the 4.1.2 update broke root on my brothers stock n7.

This does not appear to be a leaked OTA, since was not intended for publishing. If it were a leaked OTA, it would install on non-rooted devices with no problem. This is probably a later stage test rom. If it were not, the actual OTA would have been leaked as well and not just one that requires multiple steps and no radio to go with it.

this is just a guess, but maybe you used titanium backup and restored system settings that are causing force closes
OP, in the browser settings disable the plugins and see if it crashes when you goto those sites. I was having this issue and no I didn't have to hard reset to fix it. Basically the issue was Flash 10.1 for me. I had the modified flash apk installed for 2.1 and when I updated to 2.2 it messed something up. To fix this open up titanium, choose backup/restore click on adobe flash and choose uninstall. Now reboot your device and renable the plugin in the browser you should be all set now.
I'm also getting FC's in the browser. This is with plugins disabled, cleared cache, history, cookies, etc... And I didn't restore via Titanium. I can browse for a few minutes and then a FC...
Ctinsley, you are the man. I followed exactly what you said and now no more internet explorer crashing. Once again you rock!

Z4 Root not working on latest software

I wanna root my Droid x but this software doesn't seem to work anymore, can anyone help me ...
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
More info, whats it doing, what software.
I tried using Z4root with 2.2.1 it doesn't work. Any suggestions?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Funny, I bought two brand new droid x's last week, both on the newest software and it worked just fine... on both of them.
I also am on 2.2.1 and I have rooted using z4root 1.3.0... Did you do a temporary root or permanent?
I was actually about to start a new thread about this same thing. My friend just got a new droid x this week. I downloaded z4root for him, debugging was on, and did permanent root. It sat there for a long time, got hot, but did nothing. I got my droid x when it first came out, did the latest ota updated and rooted this same way no problem. Any ideas?

I had that happen the first time I tried the app...but then the phone rebooted and I tried again, and it worked without any issues. Maybe try uninstalling and then pulling a different version off the web. Here is the one I use (see attachment)
I did a permanent Root. Tried it several times. Now I used it before but when I had to go to Verizon I didn't want them to see so I took it off & was never able to do it again.

Had the same problem if it gets stuck at rebooting for more than 3 min. Pull the battery out and boot the phone back up. If you don't have superuser app then try it again. Works every time I have done it. 340 software just got my x last week.

Depends on what you are looking to do. My first recommendation is download and install koush's bootstrap recovery. Then use that to make a backup of your stock state before doing anything

Try going into Settings--> Display--> Screen timeout. Change the setting to something long... like 30 minutes or never if you have the option.
Then reboot the phone. Try uninstalling z4root. Install the version that I have attached and trying rooting again. Make sure that the screen doesn't go out. I don't think this should have any effect, but I remember the first time i used z4root I let the screen go black, and it didn't work for me. Not sure if the process stays alive it the screen goes black for power saving.
Also go into Settings--> Application--> Make sure the "unknown sources" box is checked. Then press on "Development" and make sure that "USB Debugging" has its box checked as well.
Now try and run z4root. Make sure the screen stays awake and watch it run. Shouldn't take more than 5 minutes ideally.
When you download z4root and instal you need to restart your phone then root or else you will just sit there and nothing happens but says its rooting
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Run z4root with the phone in airplane mode. Works in half the time for some reason. Also worked on a friends phone where z4root wouldn't work otherwise.
same issue
I just rooted for the first time last weekend currently running liberty 1.5 (save the applause) anyways it took me a bunch of tries and battery pulls for z4 to finally work keep at it it will work eventually

You can try sd maid which has a system cleaner. Or change the files permissions if you are worried about it transmitting data. But I wouldn't mess with it too much until you figure out what it is.

Ad blockers??

I've had to remove adblock plus because it kept tripping the unstable connection problem. I was previously using bigtincan's adfree but it stopped working. Kept telling me to update bc the one I had was out of date. Went directly to big tins website downloaded again and I kept getting the same error message. What are other options that are working well with the note 3???

Any recommended app that doesn't require root? I haven't rooted my Note yet as I do not wish to wipe everything off of it :\. I'm hoping that a root method comes out that doesn't require wiping it soon.

Un-installing adblock plus got rid of the "internet unstable" messages for me also. Installed adaway and all seems well.
I got rid of it because it made YouTube 7 minutes to load a video because it was blocking the adds, and YouTube just keeps on timing out on the adds just keep trying to reload. Eventually YouTube gives up trying to load the ad and plays the vid.

Since the hosts file is located on the /system partition, normally read-only during use, root privileges are required to change it

What's nice about Adaway is that you can add whichever URL youtube uses for ads to your "whitelist" within the app.
Another example would be that I "blacklist" mtalk.google.com to reduce my google wakelocks/better battery life because i don't use Google Talk at all

I did pretty much the same last night... Installed the "test release" (OYA_I337MOYAFNC1_880525_REV06_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT) of the Bell one on my Virgin phone (because the Official Bell release was downloading REALLY slowly), They had the same build date and file names and sizes so I think they're pretty close to identical.Rooted, then restored my TiBu backup of apps and data, then disabled KNOX, removed the Bell Bloat, and froze the services I don't use (Ant, print, books, flipbook...) and my CWM was there and working... it told me there was an update of CWM available when I first ran it so I went ahead and installed it... I have tested it as much as I can without actually using it to flash over my fresh new ROM, including going to recovery and mounting/unmounting, deleting cache,

I did find the battery was definitely draining a lot faster, and it was seeming a bit slow... but now a full day and a full overnight charge later it is much better... Currently showing 72% left after six and a half hours of more or less normal for me use... several txts sent and received, read a few CMC and newspaper articles, checked the weather a bunch of times like any Canadian in winter (are we just hoping it was just a bad dream??) looked at FB, and checked Play Store for updates of my apps... all with wi-fi on.
One thing I do notice is that "Android System" and "Android OS" have taken up 22 and 8 percent as the #2 and #3 consumers respectively... they used to be way down the list... I actually installed a silly kitkat live wallpaper that also has sound that I found amusing... won't last long though 'cause the novelty is already wearing off.
I have not frozen the Samsung Hub, Push, Link, or ChatOn services yet 'cause I thought I might give them a try for a few days...
I will probably freeze them tonight and see if tomorrow shows a difference.
