I wanna root my Droid x but this software doesn't seem to work anymore, can anyone help me ...

More info, whats it doing, what software.
I tried using Z4root with 2.2.1 it doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Funny, I bought two brand new droid x's last week, both on the newest software and it worked just fine... on both of them.
I also am on 2.2.1 and I have rooted using z4root 1.3.0... Did you do a temporary root or permanent?
I was actually about to start a new thread about this same thing. My friend just got a new droid x this week. I downloaded z4root for him, debugging was on, and did permanent root. It sat there for a long time, got hot, but did nothing. I got my droid x when it first came out, did the latest ota updated and rooted this same way no problem. Any ideas?

I had that happen the first time I tried the app...but then the phone rebooted and I tried again, and it worked without any issues. Maybe try uninstalling and then pulling a different version off the web. Here is the one I use (see attachment)
I did a permanent Root. Tried it several times. Now I used it before but when I had to go to Verizon I didn't want them to see so I took it off & was never able to do it again.

Had the same problem if it gets stuck at rebooting for more than 3 min. Pull the battery out and boot the phone back up. If you don't have superuser app then try it again. Works every time I have done it. 340 software just got my x last week.

It stays on the "running exploit in order to obtain root access screen. It never goes past that.

I got it, left it on the screen and it took about 15 minutes to finish. =D now, what do I do to get the most out of my rooted X?

Depends on what you are looking to do. My first recommendation is download and install koush's bootstrap recovery. Then use that to make a backup of your stock state before doing anything

Worked for me. Installed via gmail. Powered down and pulled battery and rebooted right before I installed it. Took less than 2 minutes. My phone was bought in Jan 2011.
Okay so with my phone rooted now I should unroot and do this? I didn't see this till now....

I've seen on YouTube people claiming that you can use z4root to root an LG ally. Does anyone know if this is true?

Try going into Settings--> Display--> Screen timeout. Change the setting to something long... like 30 minutes or never if you have the option.
Then reboot the phone. Try uninstalling z4root. Install the version that I have attached and trying rooting again. Make sure that the screen doesn't go out. I don't think this should have any effect, but I remember the first time i used z4root I let the screen go black, and it didn't work for me. Not sure if the process stays alive it the screen goes black for power saving.
Also go into Settings--> Application--> Make sure the "unknown sources" box is checked. Then press on "Development" and make sure that "USB Debugging" has its box checked as well.
Now try and run z4root. Make sure the screen stays awake and watch it run. Shouldn't take more than 5 minutes ideally.
When you download z4root and instal you need to restart your phone then root or else you will just sit there and nothing happens but says its rooting

Run z4root with the phone in airplane mode. Works in half the time for some reason. Also worked on a friends phone where z4root wouldn't work otherwise.
same issue
I just rooted for the first time last weekend currently running liberty 1.5 (save the applause) anyways it took me a bunch of tries and battery pulls for z4 to finally work keep at it it will work eventually

I tried every combo of I could find to try and access recovery. Nothing worked. I woke up this morning and found the update waiting for me. Installed it, everything went kosher. Was messing around with my phone tonite, and for giggles decided to to try again. On the first try, I hit pay dirt, my heart almost skipped a beat. Lol. So is ryansza the easiest root method? No access to a pc right now.

Wow!! Im really stoked. I did ryanza's root plus lag fix. Created a nandroid, installed root explorer. Deleted a bunch of bloatware. I did notice that the space for apps is alot smaller. I thought I read on here there was a way around that. Any help would be great!!

i tried today to root my droid 2 with z4root app and its stoke on running exploit in order to obtain root access. its the first time im trying to root my phone and im new with android.
thank you
I'm not familar with ZRoot but see if putting your phone in debugging helps maybe.
I had the same issue. Reboot you phone and then make that the first thing you run when it comes back up. It should speed through it. It's not the perfect solution, but it works.

I'm not really familiar with this either, but I've read some of the comments in the market, try doing it several times, it seems to work after a couple tries or so. If it just seems to not be working, try using DoRoot, it's pretty simple and easy to do. You can find it in the Droid 2 Development.
My GF & I both have Droid 2 phones & I used z4root on both. Worked flawlessly on each. I put the phone in debug & then ran z4root. Totally new at this myself so not sure what else will help.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=764950 here's the thread about rooting including the easy root versions.
Please try and use a forum search or Google search with "XDA developers:" before what you want. This will help you quicker and keep the number of duoble posts down. Thanks.
has anything been released on rooting a NEW dinc? I just got it and the ota went right on to it.
thanx
Rob
The word on "the street" is that Unrevoked is working on it, and is supposed to be out anytime now, and that they have already figured it out for the EVO.
I have been checking every incredible forum and unrevoked website, but havent seen any fix for this yet.
Same here .would they update their website? Or would it be posted in forums. ?
unrevoked.com/
Worked for me and I bought my Inc. about a week or two ago. I've got an SLCD screen. Been running CM 6.1 rc2 ever since I let Unrevoked work it's magic.
I also got an Incredible this week, though I was forced to apply the OTA update as part of the activation and setup sequence. Because of the OTA update, the method that Unrevoke formerly used (rageagainstthecage exploit, if I'm not mistaken?) no longer functions. It seems we're all waiting for the next version as another way in.
i get my dinc tomorrow,im hoping i can root it before i activate it, so the ota dont dont patch it.
I get mine tomorrow too. What I will do is as soon as I get it is turn it on connect it to the computer and unrevoke it. Even before the update popup. And done free forever

hmm,i just got mine but cant get past the activation screen without activating, i need to bypass it so i can enable usb debug
Touch the four corners starting ewith the top left then clockwise.

i thought that was just for the droid 1, didnt know it works on incredible
I had to get past this screen yesterday with a phone I was changing over to Cricket. PITA but it only made me lose 2 min of my life.
I let it try to dial the activation number and fail. Eventually it let me skip all the screens. I kept on pushing the home button, skip, etc.

I went to Cyanogen Mod Wiki where this method is posted in detail and its for AMOLED screens only. It supposedly will brick an Inc with an SCLD screen.
I have been trying for the past 30 minutes or so but I can't seem to download or update from the market. When I click install, it takes me back to the main menu and just stops. Anyone else have this?

Yes, on all ROMs. Seems it's having problems tonight.
It does not appear that restarting helps either. Nor does clearing the cache.
Perhaps the system went down or is updating on Google's end. Are other phones having issues?

Now that you mention it..
yah I just tried adfree and it won't download.
It didn't kick me back to the main, but it acted like it wanted to start for a split second then it just went away.

We can't even install updates.
Check this out:
http://www.androidcentral.com/late-night-market-woes-youre-not-alone
AndroidCentral thinks that it is related to the Gingerbread updates.
I just downloaded an update to Handcent, so mine is working just fine, but yeah, I saw that story on Android Central too. Seems you're not alone.
Ok so I just ordered a X from ebay and its on its way. So I started doing a little research on rooting since I want to root it right away. I have done some research in this form but wanted to be sure before I attempted anything. So, is their one solid way to root the phone no matter what version it is? If not what do I need to know for certain OTA versions so I dont brick my phone? Thanks!

Ok so I have revived my phone and rooted it. Its awesome by the way. But I am in the process of setting up WiFi tether. But each time I start it the 3g hotspot comes up in the background. So when I connect my computer and go to any website it shoots me strait to the Verizons page. Even though I have root and am running a different WiFi tether program other then the 3g hotspot that the x comes with. How do I get around this without being charged.
Try using easytether to usb tether instead
I would really like to use some sort of wifi tether. Their should be some sort of work around or fix.
