So, for those who've returned their N7 for a refund, and have used part or all of their $25 credit, what happened? Did the credit get charged back to your Google Play account? Did you get refunded all but $25 of the purchase price? Or what?
I ask because I've noticed that I haven't received a credit on subsequent purchases, even from other retailers (e.g., Staples). So, it must be a one-time offer per Play account. But, if the credit is rescinded upon refund, and not granted for a subsequent new purchase... Well, that would be a bummer.
Any ideas?

We’re writing in regards to your recent Nexus One purchase. There was an issue with the way the sales tax was applied to your order. When your order was placed, you paid taxes on the full retail price of the phone. However, you should have only been charged taxes on the sales price of the phone. We apologize for this issue and wanted to let you know that Google will issue a partial refund for the difference in the amount of taxes you were charged.
The refund will be issued to the debit/credit card used to complete the original purchase. To verify which card will receive the refund, please sign in to your Google Checkout account at https://checkout.google.com and click ‘View order’. The payment information for the order will be listed at the bottom of the order receipt.
If the debit/credit card used to complete your purchase has been closed, your card-issuing bank should forward these funds to your new account or mail a check to you for the amount of the refund.
If you have any questions about the refund, or if you need further assistance, please reply to this email and we’ll be happy to help.
Sincerely,
The Nexus One Team

sooo google charged extra for sales tax;; who else got this email?
I do, can't wait cause i'm broke!!!
Apple would never do something like this, thanks for being so honest Google
well i just calculated it
these are my numbers
8.875% = NYC Sales Tax
529.00 = RETAIL Price
-250.00 = Discount
8.875% of (529.00 - 250.00) = $24.76125
not much of a refund i guess but its good they are being honest...
I got the same email today too
Do you guys live in states with a sales tax?
I got mine forwarded to AUS via oregon, which i don't believe has sales tax. I did not pay any import tax, So i am assuming that at no point did i pay tax for the phone, would that be right? or do they put tax on at the time of purchase?
I paid full price...529 + 46 nys tax.
Im assuming i dont apply.
A friend of mine and I both got that email today as well.
i presume this is for US only? not UK?
thanks
so, this doesn't apply to the people that bought it at full price or does it? i didn't get an email yet...
Got that email yesterday as well. I guess we were too excited to actually check the sales tax we paid?
I looked at the sales tax I paid through google checkout, and then cross referenced that through my bank account, and I paid the correct ammount. Hmmmmm, maybe a global refund of the 20+ dollars?

It wouldn't apply because you paid the correct sales tax. Google was taxing for the full price when people were buying at the subsidized price.
Not in California ???
YES! 14 dollar refund?!?!?! Thats fine by me
Hmm.. I wonder why I haven't received this email. I just checked my google checkout receipt and it looks like I paid full tax amount on subsidized price too lol. I wondered why tax was so much but I was too excited to think more of it haha.
I get my Google phones for free, so nope! *sticks out tongue*

Nope, even buying subsidized from a retail store (in california) they still charge you sales tax on the full price of the phone.. So no refund..

Aww dammit. That's not cool. I was juiced about a reimbursement too. Guess I can kiss that goodbye
They should refund me the price difference between the touchscreen they used and a legitimate touch screen.
I want to buy the 16gb model but Google won't let me order online so I was thinking about buying it from a local retailer. Will I still get the $25 credit if I buy it from GameStop or Walmart?

Yep, i bought mine at local Gamestop recently and upon adding your Gmail account when configuring it for first-time use, Google will add $25 to your G Play account.
In canada futureshop and bestbuy has this msg:
Includes $25 of credit to the Google Play store, for a limited time only!*
when I click on it ,it says:
For a limited time, buy the Google Nexus 7 and it comes included with a $25 credit to spend in the Play store, as well as some great free content like your own copy of Transformers: Dark of the Moon.
*Offer valid while supplies last. Play Store credit comes on pack. No rainchecks.
The part play store credit comes on pack. Hmm. I can purchase a nexus 7 at a local (not future shop/best buy) store right now, but it didn't have anything on the pack. Does anyone know if for Canada it needs this on the pack or will I be eligible for the 25 credit regardless?
Bought mine at Staples (10% employee discount, sweet!) and can confirm that I got the $25 credit. :good:
Yep. Got mine from JB HiFi and got the $25. I didn't expect it so it was a nice bonus
I am getting a replacement Nexus 7 as my first one was defective. If I use a different google account on the replacement does that mean I will get another $25/£15 to use

Yep.
So I can use both accounts (even if its not my primary account) to make purchases on a single device?

I've got a personal and a work account on my phone and can use either to purchase apps.
Just curious: are non-play store buyers also getting the $10 google wallet credit? If you don't know what I'm talking about, add a prepaid card in wallet and see what happens.
Hi,
I am debating whether I will refund my Nexus 7. I live in the United States and I already used nearly $25 of the Google Play credit.
Does anybody know if there is a problem regarding the Google Play credit? I figure I may have to repurchase the apps with actual money if I return the tablet.
I would imagine that I also pay for return shipping and the original shipping amount would not be refunded. Is this correct?

Once you spend any of the credit then you have lost your return rights .... ;->
Seriously, I think Google will just write it off to goodwill given the hassle that a faulty Nexus 7 causes in terms of the logistics of re-shipping.
But if you get a replacement then I don't think you will get another $25 to the same Gmail a/c.
Engadget has a horribly worded article about the $25 google play credit expiring.
The Google press release is just as unhelpful.
Based on both, I cannot tell whether that means everybody's $25 credit (or whatever is left) is expiring, or whether they will simply stop giving new buyers the credit.

I guess that's the result when you have these idiot bloggers take over journalism and PR.
I can't find the part that says your credit will expire anywhere. The offer just ends Sept 30
It just means that the offer to get the $25 when you purchase the Nexus 7 will expire after 9/30/12. After the 30th, you will no longer receive the $25 credit. Dont worry though, your $25 is safe. Hope this answered your question.

My initial purchase was mid August, went through 3 Nexus 7's before I decided to get a refund instead. Took me a while to get my credit but it showed up today. I still show the $25 Play Store free credit, but is that going to be removed from my account at some point?
dja2k
i would say that depends where you returned it. if to google directly, it might be removed but through a retailer, i doubt it.
