When I turn it on, im stuck on the enter your username and pass word screen. and when I try to boot it into recovery mood, I get stuck on the Google logo.
So I was wondering, if i could move some of the save files such as games on to a pc and move them over to the new one that Google was shipped

How do i know if my nexus is rooted/unlocked?

I cant get my phone on and i wish to know if its rooted..i do not have the "lock" under the start-up logo.. but is there any other way i can see if its rooted?
/ V
If you don't have the padlock showing then it can't have been rooted, unlocking the bootloader is (currently) a prerequisite of rooting.
Download 'Nexus One Torch' from the Market (it's free and requires root access to work).
If you're prompted to allow it to access system resources (unlikely, since you don't have the padlock icon), you've got root.
If not, you don't.
Nice and easy.

Just perfect way to find out...
What an Idea.
Btw as your signature says you are using the MOdaco's desire rom, can you tell whether its good enough for daily use at this stage. I only wish that the phone wouldnt hang and dont have drop calls and missed appointments.
Thanks.
If you have somehow gotten root and a locked bootloader, a lot of people would be interested in your story.

I've been running his Desire ROM since alpha 7 and never saw problems with dropped calls et al. Currently, it's perfectly stable.

If there is no unlocked lock icon at the boot screen then your bootloader isn't unlocked, which means that you haven't yet rooted your device.
btw the torch method is great

Rooting Bricked Aria

I am about to buy a bricked Aria, it won't load past the ATT screen, is there any way to root it without going through Windows? Like with my Evo, I was able to root that either through Windows or through the HBOOT screen.
EDIT: Does anyone know if this method would unbrick the phone?

Can you access the boot loader?
Ninja edit -- if you can't access the boot loader, than you probably won't be able to unbrick the phone.

If you can get to the att screen then you should be able to access recovery by shutting off the phone and using volume down + power buttons to boot up. If you can do that then you SHOULD be able to fix it.

Just wondering... How do you brick a phone that's not rooted? It's not like you can brick it by installing a new ROM to a non-rooted phone.
I haven't bought the phone yet, I'm assuming he probably tried rooting and failed, I can't think of any other reason it wouldn't load past the att logo. And as you said, if it can get to the att logo, you should be able to get to the boot loader, right?
If I can get to the boot loader, I could probably load the stock rom to get it to load into the os to root through revoked.

Correct. As long as you can get to bootloader you can restore the phone.

Awesome, thanks for the help!
You could essentially have him pay you to fix his phone. But that wouldn't be very nice... =P

Problem with fastboot

Hello.
I want to root my phone but I have a problem with launching fastboot...
Holding down search key while plugging in the phone doesn't run the fastboot mode ;(
Any advice?
Im in the same boat as you. We are forever locked out of fastboot. Makes me want to ditch the phone to tell you the truth.
Man, got it yesterday and now I'm really disappointed...

If your device is branded or sim locked, fastboot mode has been locked, developers are working on this though
Ok, now it's not a problem for me cause I just wanted a root for my R800i. Followed one of the users manual (i think it was called like "Root 2.3.3 with locked bootloaders"). But still waiting for a dev who will make our phones possible to unlock BL.

Yea yea I hope something happens on that front soon I want an unlocked bootloader so I can start trying other roms and kernels

i don't know if this has been tried or not, but with the phone running normally, and usb debuggng turned on try "adb reboot bootloader" and see if that gets you into fastboot
It just does a normal reboot

Theres a bounty for this in the dev section. Add to it, may increase progress.
Hey! Unfortunately, we're not able to do anything at this moment, because the TA unit telling is the fastboot mode allowed or not is hash-protected, so we can't modify it.

how to know if i have unlock recovery ?

how i can to know ?
thank you.
you mean unlocked bootloader. youll know when you unlock it. first, it says unlocked in the bootloader. second, youll notice the unlocked padlock under the google logo when booting up.

Are you maybe trying to ask how to know if your bootloader is unlocked and you have custom recovery installed?
If your bootloader is unlocked, then when you turn the tablet on, at the point where Google logo appears, there's unlocked lock displayed on the bottom. You cannot miss it, sou if you don't see it asap, your bootloader is most probably locked.
Other then that, you can download Nexus Root Toolkit (search here on forum; its a PC program, not android app), and try to root. If you fail, your bootloader is locked.
And if you haven't been tinkering around with the bootloader, it's probably still locked.
Thank you.

Doesn't sound bricked to me. I'd buy it for 70 and take your time figuring out how to get it working again.

My opinion I would ask the owner if the bootloader is unlocked. If the owner is smart enough to know that the bootloader can be accessed then he or she can also tell you if it's unlocked and whether you will have the capability to flash anything to it or not. If the phone is in the boot loop of death you will at least need an unlocked bootloader to flash a fix.

Also being able to access Recovery would be a good sign. If you you cannot access Recovery mode you cannot use ADB and is a tell tale sign of the BLOD.
The phone doesn't sound bricked. Even if the bootloader is locked as long as you can access it you should be able to sideload an OTA update which might get the phone working again. I think if your adb and fastboot binaries are up to date you can even sideload the entire factory image instead of just an OTA.
