I may be buying a nexus 6p for 70 bucks. The buyer said this
"powered off during a software update and it is in a "bricked" status. Screen turns on and you can access bootloader etc."
Is it fixable to get back to working condition? I wanna make for sure be for I buy it.

Doesn't sound bricked to me. I'd buy it for 70 and take your time figuring out how to get it working again.

My opinion I would ask the owner if the bootloader is unlocked. If the owner is smart enough to know that the bootloader can be accessed then he or she can also tell you if it's unlocked and whether you will have the capability to flash anything to it or not. If the phone is in the boot loop of death you will at least need an unlocked bootloader to flash a fix.

Also being able to access Recovery would be a good sign. If you you cannot access Recovery mode you cannot use ADB and is a tell tale sign of the BLOD.
The phone doesn't sound bricked. Even if the bootloader is locked as long as you can access it you should be able to sideload an OTA update which might get the phone working again. I think if your adb and fastboot binaries are up to date you can even sideload the entire factory image instead of just an OTA.

im actually going to return the nexus 7 to best buy mobile, where i bought it. however i already unlocked and rooted it and installed a custom rom. and theres no way to bring it back to stock. i assume theyre going to check it to see if its unlocked etc during the return. does anyone have any exp with returning theres? or is it against the return policy to have it like this? go figure, it is a nexus and should be this way.

You can go to the Dev section and find a 'stock' image that you can flash. It leaves it unlocked, but that's a simple enough adb command....

Relocking is not an adb command. It's performed by running fastboot.
fastboot oem unlock
Will handle everything nicely if the device is in fastboot. Yes, you can use adb to reboot into fastboot mode, but it's usually easier to just use the button combination.

Welp that's what you get for being on the Internet in the morning.
Yea pretty easy, all done in fastboot mode.
I would personally do,
fastbook OEM lock
Then
Fastbook OEM unlock
Then
fastboot OEM lock
It will erase everything and put it at stock-like, with a locked bootloader. Sales clerks aren't going to go through setup again to look at some text.

Don't worry I used to work at best buy and I still return my stuff rooted/jail broken. I would just flash a modified stock ROM and return it. Make sure that there are no give aways like the tablet ui looking different ect. They honestly won't care just say you are return it because of some bull**** reason like it doesn't fit your needs. Do not say its a software issue otherwise they will try to troubleshoot it obviously!
Good luck hope this helps!

While there is certainly no reason not to spend a few minutes to put things back to stock (why take the risk?), odds are they won't notice or care. I returned my original N7 to Sams Club to upgrade to the 3G model when it came out and the CSR didn't even open the box, let alone make sure it was stock. I guess the fact that they could track me down if the device wasn't inside might have helped with that.
Also, keep in mind that when returning a non-defective device (and sometimes a defective one....) they go back on the shelves as open box. Odds are, someone who has no idea what they are doing is going to buy it. So don't be a jerk (not pointing fingers, just talking generally) and give them a modified tablet. Be nice and leave it in the same condition you would want your mom to buy it in.
Stock image is now posted, so Wugfresh's Nexus Root Tool should be able to flash it, unroot and relock.
Good Afternoon All,
Do you think it may be possible that we can get root access without unlocking the bootloader - I'm a little reluctant to unlock the bootloader because of the QFuse blowing.
The QFuse does not blow when you unlock or relock the bootloader. Many reviews and Android news sites spouted that nonsense without having tried it. There are many screenshots of Google CSRs saying that they don't know what the QFuse is for, but unlocking the bootloader/rooting/alterring software is fine as long as it's not so bricked you can't reflash stock images before sending it in to them.

+1 the QFuse status didn't change when unlocking the bootloader. The media exaggerated about the qfuse and nothing has happened. Everything about the phone still works properly.
Thanks very much, I wasn't aware of this, I should read more. Awesome news.
But to answer the first question.
Very few people put in effort to root a phone with an unlocked bootloader, not matter what fuses are blown.
A phone with an unlocked bootloader has root by default.

last i read you have to flash a kernel in order to root the phone therefore you need to unlock the bootloader to do so, i would like to just root myself but i don't know if you can.
No answer?
I would like to get Root on my Nexus 6p but currently do not want to invest the time for full bootloader unlock/fresh install.
So... I will ask again, is it possible to get Root access on Nexus 6P with stock kernel and leaving bootloader in factory locked state? If yes... are there any guides to do this?
Why people are afraid to unlock the bootloader? Nexus devices don't lose the warranty when you unlock it, you can also lock it again.

The answer is no.
To do what you want, someone would need to develop and exploit.
There is no motivation to do that when all one has to do is unlock the bootloader.
On phones where a bootloader unlock exists, root methods require unlocking the bootloader.
This is to install a custom recovery so yiou can flash SU.
Unlocked bootloader = root, no matter what.
You will need to invest the time and backup your device.
@TS, did you read the unlock/root guide in general section? It clearly states you need an unlocked bootloader + custom recovery to root your device..

DOA.
But nobody is going to put in time and effort.
What is the point? Unlock the bootloader and flash. It does not void the warranty.
There is even a defined method to get the monthly security update.
With the exploit, it will only work until the next OTA patches it.
I was hoping to root without unlocking the boot loader also. I am definitely not willing to do this since I believe that is what wrecked my previous 6P. It was fine until I used Nexus Root toolkit. I unlocked the boot loader, installed TWRP and rooted then minutes after this the phone locked up, rebooted and was stuck in a permanent boot loop. I couldn't get into recovery or even install any recovery. That phone is currently at the Huawei repair center in Texas and they are sending me a new device. They believe the internal ROM failed and I have suspicions of everything I did with the Toolkit did this. I am afraid to try it on my current 6P that I got from a friend. I have no root now and the phone is massively stable. 400+ hours uptime with no reboot and no slowdowns. But if I were able to root with no unlocking of the boot loader or installing any custom recovery I probably would do it. I hate that I am scared to do all that again with this other phone haha. Sorry for sounding paranoid but ****, see where am I coming from?

As good as toolkits are, put in the extra time and avoid using them because you are never in full control of what is being done to your device. Take a little extra time and learn adb and fastboot. It's actually really simple and you can get so much done without the need for using a toolkit.

In all honesty it's not even more convenient. Once you've used the command line you'll never go back to a toolkit. It's actually easier, much faster and you have way more control over what you do.

Use Helium app for individual apps backup. Worked great to backup a few apps/data when I changed from one Nexus 6P to another. Might be a bit buggy to get working to get the backup, but after that everything is fine.
you can do it with KINGROOT
Welp now that safetynet checks the bootloader, I have to lock it to continue using android pay etc (non-rooted device).
I'm getting conflicting reports, so I was hoping someone here can solve this mystery.
Does relocking the bootloader automatically wipe the device?
Thanks
Yup.
It does for me when I attempted to get AP to work. Nexus 6p
seems like we're stuck in the crossroads of wipe the whole thing or go full root and say to hell with android pay :-/

Same decision. Unless they start requiring locked bootloader for ridiculous reasons. I can sort of understand the financial/bank access concerns. If they expand the requirements for a locked boot loader beyond that, I'll return to the iPhone.

I have experience doing that. Yes your device will definitely get BRICKED!!! Just ignore that boot screen, do not attempt to do anything to get rid of it. It just takes time to accept it. I use to think about getting rid of it as well when i was using my Oneplus 3. I re-locked the bootloader and got bricked. I couldn't do anything and had to send it back to Oneplus to fix it.
There have been other devices where they are able to replace the image with another, such as a blank image to hide the warning. I've also seen people load custom ROMs signed with their own signature so they can relock their bootloader after loading a custom OS. So there are things that can be done, but it's not something to just play around with, as mentioned, mess it up, and you'll brick something.
Thanks for the replies. Well I guess its just how it is, nit a big issue, was just wondering because most videos of custom roms I saw this part was cut out lol.
Please dd and pm me your frp, ftm, and if you are willing to, factory reset and then enable oem unlock, and send your userdata partition, all with the oem unlock allowed.
Thanks!

On the LG V40 if the frp partition from a phone with the OEM lock flag triggered is dd'd to another device, the bootloader will allow unlocking, additionally, the ftm partition on the v40 seems to carry the imei so I assume the same is true for the Pixel, I'd understand if you didnt want to share that partition but I think if the phones imei registers as a Google store one, that could help trick it into working.
Is there any way an exchange can be done here for the Verizon software that enables WiFi calling, volte, voicemail, and video calling? Is that Verizon software out there somewhere? If you guys are trying to root and unlock vzw phones you'll be wiping and starting with a fresh phone anyway. Is that a good time to extract these files and provide them?

Unfortunately I already was able to get these from someone with a Google Store unlocked one, the dd'd partitions didnt stick through a reboot, and it wasnt able to oem unlock, ive been messing with the oemlock-bridge-client, so far chaning the device_lock status from 1 to 0 does nothing :/

No offence but,why are people still trying to unlock/root the "unlockable/unrootable" variants of this phone? Its like what 3-4 years old? Like i get trying to root/unlock them when they 1st come out even though like come on you should've known by now. But now there are way better phones. Everyone is offering good deals for trade in's.
