[Q} What 'Launcher' is this? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm on stock ROM with tablet mode enabled (changed DPI in build.prop) and this is my home screen. I really like the app launcher being the discrete little icon in the top corner but I have no idea how to change settings to get that there on another ROM. I've loaded several different ROMs but always end up restoring my backup just for that launcher!
Can anybody tell me what that is and how to configure it on other ROMs?

That's the stock launcher in tablet mode.

I knew the answer would be simple. Thank you! So if I want that on another ROM I can just extract Launcher2.apk from this one and install elsewhere? Or do I need other files too?

Just put the other rom into tablet mode via dpi and it'll do it automatically. Or use paranoid android and select everything to be tablet without changing DPI.

I had tried that on Paranoid but was still left with the phone launcher. I'm going to play around a bit tonight though. I've got 3 or 4 ROMs downloaded and I'll see which one I can make work. Thanks again.

Yeah, tried root toolbox pro and build.prop editor, they dont seem to gain access to the file to change it. Have you had any luck with it?
Give it a try..

Messaging box color

Hey,
Just picked up this phone came from a Note 2.
Anyways i cant find any settings to get the messaging box where all the texts are from everyone to be black. its white/gray and it looks ugly with my swiftkey thanks
Cedric
Hey bud, I'm guessing you want to change the color of the bubbles? Go to the main text screen (shows all your active texts) and hit the menu button on your phone. From there you'll be able to access settings and change a few things.
EDIT= Just realized what you were talking about. I hate it too! I have everything on my phone dark and that's the only screen that's white. I'm not sure if you can change it.

Mines black by default? See my screenshot below.
But someone over in the theming section remade the apk, I think you can just install it, might have to replace the old one I'm not sure since mines black and I don't need it.
Ahh it's going to drive me crazy. And I don't want to root it.

Try this modded apk from the themes section. I believe you can just install it without needing to root

How? No idea, I've got the Rogers S4 up in Canada so maybe its our firmware? My SMS/MMS contacts and dialer are all black by default, wait till you have an unlocked boot loader and maybe flash our ROM? There's also no lag
If anybody wants to try to use my default SMS /MMS here's a link to a zip with both the apk and odex files you'll need to copy into yours system / apps folder
**THIS IS NOT A FLASHABLE ZIP**
**YOU MUST EXTRACT MANUALLY AND PUSH MANUALLY**
Side note : you make be able to simple side load the apk as normal but I'm not sure. Report back if you'd like
I can also do contacts / dialer as well
https://www.dropbox.com/s/xuepksbhn22lla4/SecMMS.zip
Might be interested in the contacts apk....first going to see if I can get the MMS to at&t to work

Try iFont from Play, that may work.
Don't use ROM toolbox or any other font changing app. They will give u boot loops.
First make a nandroid backup.
Download your font and make sure its the same style as the one you want to replace (normal, bold, italic). It also must be ttf, not otf.
Then using a root file manager go to system/fonts and delete the font that you want to replace. Then paste the downloaded font into the directory and change its name to the font that it will be replacing (ex: Roboto-Regular.ttf)
Change its permissions to rw-r-r and reboot.

First things first, YOU'RE DOING A FABULOUS JOB. Keep up the good work :good:
Now coming to my doubt, Can we use the same above mentioned method to change the font style in the STOCK ROM & KERNEL?
If no then please guide how can I change the font style? I prefer not to use third party applications.

Just go here, and download the font packs of your choice. Then boot into a custom recovery and flash. This works fine on stock rom & kernel, but you need root and a custom recovery.

I use Font Installer on my VZW G2, and it works fine. Using the Comic font as we speak. Not sure why you're having issues with it. Using rooted Clean Rom if it matters.

Looking for that split screen feature that came with phone

I rooted my phone with the shabbypenguin build but don't have the ability to hold the back button to split screens. Is there an APK I can download or zip to install for this?
Thanks!
I'm assuming you're running cyanogen? If so no. It's a touchwiz only feature as the framework is completely different

I don't believe it's cyanogen, basically just rooted with the sprint hotspot hack and custom recovery. I currently use the touchwiz launcher afaik, is the framework different?
If you just Rooted the stock firmware the setting can be found by going to settings -> my device -> display-> check the multi window check box. And you should be able to run split screen
