any internet connection sharing tweaks for this baby?
nobody likes tethering charges
There's an app called WiFi tether that works like a charm over both wifi and bluetooth. The developer is an active member in the Dream Application Development forum. Root is required though.
You can also get the next cyanogen build, which is said to include usb tether functionality.
After rooting my phone I figured i would give the hotspot a shot. But when i try to browse on my ipad it brings me to the VZW self provision broadband page.
I normally use wifi tether, but i would rather be able to use the built in because its an infasture netowork vs the ad-hoc wifi tether gives me.
Not the case

actually your right and your wrong at the same time sadly; your right about the infrastructure network vs ad-hoc, but wrong about the 3g hotspot app vs. tethering & portable hotspot not an app.
The 3g hotspot app is a verizon product not googles in the sense your looking at.
The tethering & portable hotspot should have been activated in wireless & networks section, right between "Bluetooth setting & VPN settings" from a froyo(2.2) google standpoint but in our case its not even there.
Hope this clears up the mistakes about froyo tethering & portable hotspot and verizon 3g mobile hotspot app.
Yes it does thanks! I have a nexus one So i know what your talking about.
rooted

he stated in the post that he was rooted, he just wanted to use the native tethering application.
Does this mean that if we can get a vanilla Froyo or a custom ROM compiled from source that we'll have the true Android hotspot?

That's all fine and well except that the wifi tether app runs in adhoc mode not infrastructure.

why do not you just use pdanet from market?
There was a new experimental Wifi Tether build that was released dismorning bringing it up to Pre9. I was unable to find a change log, still adhoc?

Pdanet creates an ad hoc network just like every other third party app.

If its just the one computer you are logging on with use the BT method very easy and works quite well for free and even on non-rooted phone
Hi all-
I am running the froyo 7.1 android build on my Spring Rhodium 400. My hotspot activates however will not disengage and then reboots my phone. I understand this is a known problem. Essentially i need to broadcast a non ad hoc network. I am solely using this android build to access the wifi hotspot which would allow me to connect to my HP Touchpad. Touchpad does not recognize ad-hoc. If there is an app on the market or elsewhere that will allow me to broadcast a signal i would appreciate it.
Kind Regards,

Anyone else experiencing this? My Verizon 7.7 has unreliable tethering on FoxFi, Wifi Tether, and the native tethering app. They all start up fine, but after about 10 min. the tablet's data connection starts to go in and out. Once I turn off tethering, the data connection becomes stable again. My Thunderbolt has no issues on Wifi Tether using the same SIM card.

My tablet is perfect on stock ics wifi tether, purchased in antwerp belgium, used in united kingdom.
CM9 port is nice but no wifi tether option, so using stock rom which I think is a nice job from samsung, transformed this device.

Hmmm...maybe it's just an issue with the Verizon version.

Bad luck, they probably added something in to make the experience poor and deter you from sharing the connection, in my experience best to steer clear of large controlling american companies if possible,

Just curious, what is the advantages of using external tethering apps over stock tethering option in Galaxy tab?
BTW i use stock bluetooth tethering and found no issue.

After upgraded to official ICS, i cant do a tethering anymore. My gtab is bought from malaysia. Anyone experiencing this also?
Similar problem with rooted 6800 after a clean ICS install. Tethering is working fine, but only until the screen shuts off. After that the stock tethering shuts also off.
Tried other apps like Wifi Tether and Barnacle, but have the same problem. After switching on, Barnacle says that it is interfering with Wifi Manager, whatever it means.
I have no task killer
I use usb tether on my gt-6800 running HC.
I sometimes get losses of Internet connectivity but I'm not sure if it is down to the signal where I use the tether. Eg. I was getting it a lot a few weeks ago but recently it's been pretty stable.
The lease on the IP seems to need renewing every hour and it's often around then that problems can happen.
Good day everyone.
I wouldblikebto know if someone whould be aware of a software or anything so i could plug the nexus4 on it and the computer give the network access from usb.
The reason is because i have 1gb of data only per month and sometime no wifi connection and use mostly desktops computers with only wired connections avaible.
If someone have an idea would be great
Ps : if you prefer it is a reverse tethering lol. Sorry for my english im mostly a french canadian
