Slow 802.11n? - Galaxy Tab 2 General

I just got my GT p3110 today. Looks like a great device but I get extremeley slow net on my work wifi wich supports 802.11n. I turned on wifi hotspot on my phone and got the speeds expected from a wifi hotspot. I upgraded the device hoping that this was a know bug being fixed but my work wifi is still very, very slow.
Are there any known bugs in .n-networking? I have tried to search the forum but cannot find any other threads discussing this.

Never mind. It seems the tablet has problems using channel 13 on an 802.11n network. Changed the channel to 9 and everything works just fine. Older devices like the iphone 4 and Galaxy SIII have no problems, though. But they are using the g-radio. This makes me think this is an n-radio issue either on the access point or the tablet.
This might be an issue for norway only (so far) since the use of channel 13 was prohibited. So my tab has probably been flipping between the older 802.11g access points with other channels elsewhere in the building and the access point in my department.

SGS1/SGS2 Wifi connects but no Internet data transfer

I was wondering if anyone else have the same issue, I tried on my galaxys ,galaxy s2 and even on my galaxy tab 10.1 wifi could connect but there is no data transfer, I have tried this on several routers in my office but the result is same, is this a bug on android or hardware problem?
I have tried static IP, change many things but no chance, I even tried on different kernels but...
** my friends with blackberry and Iphone can connect to the same router and have internet

But as I say in the first post blackberry and iphone can connect
Yes I have the same prob, goes steady for ten mins, then just stops receiving a network connection, but my desire is fine. My honeycomb tablet does the same thing, but just turning wifi on and off fixes it. This appears to need a full reboot then works perfect again for a while. I've only had this phone two hours and have noticed it so surely others have.

I too faced the similar problem in the beginning dude...later some where in the forum one user stated to reduce the security level of modem or router from WPA/WPA2 to WEP/AES...then it works flawless...i don't know whether it is a problem with android or hardware...but most of the router or modem is secured with higher level of security which could not be accessed by our SGS2..i hope this would be fixed by software update..

Its is most likely router specific problem as its not a general problem and the majority have no problem with the highest security level .

It seems to be a problem with just some devices as indicated by this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194635. For a high end smartphone worth £500, temperamental wifi is a problem i shouldn't have to put up with. My router has no problem with any other devices so it's clearly a fault with the phone.
Never had an issue with wifi and wpa / wpa2 on multiple hot spots and home. Try a factor reset and flash . On kf3 xeu

That tweaker site is for GPRS/3g connection, this thread is about WIFI connection, so it won't help.
I have wifi problems as well. It connects just fine when i first configured the network but it won't work back from standby, although it still looks connected it won't transfer any data. Today i noticed an extra detail, it would seem that an app that was connected was still working but anything else i started fresh (like openinng the browser to access a page) wouldn't work.
I also noticed it loosing connection once after using it continuously for around 15 minutes.
Still haven't tried changing the security settings on the router, but, i previously had an ipad2 (for a short time, then sold it because it's just an expensive toy) and it would display the same behaviour.
Before that, i had a Nexus S with the same router and it always worked flawlessly! No settings were changed in the router.
I'm going to try lowering the security to wpa or wep and test it later.
If it works it might be a problem with the router but it's also a problem with the device (phone/ipad).
EDIT: one more thing, when i first got the SGS2 it had an older rom (vodafone KE7 i think) and it worked flawlessly until i updated it to a newer version the next day. I can't be to sure this was the culprit because i didn't use it that much the day before and it was a fresh install so maybe the issue didn't have time to show up.
one of my friends has a captivate sgs he also has the same problem, seems to be an android bug, or maybe samsung, another issue on this phone is about the bluetooth , it can not discover my headset bluetooth (sony DR-BT50) I have tried galaxy s , galaxy s2 and galaxy tab 10.1 but none of them can discover the headphone seems my galaxy life is messed up
Well i had similar issues with my vibrant and even on my nexus one....i think it is android bug....but if u r using cm7 or miui...u can easily get rid of it...by going to wifi settings>>>>advanced settings>>>regulatory domain>>>>change it to 14 channels....
but my sgs2 doesnt have this prob so far....i used those settings on nexus one and vibrant....and it worked....
Hope this helps..

Surely it would be backwards compatible.
It should be meaningless if bluetooth 3 not support BT2.x many devices still using BT2.X, anyhow my laptop is bt2 but I can connect to my sgs or sgs2

My Glalaxy s 2 has the same problem. It was fine till i was on KF7 but things changed with KG6 now.
My SGSII connects fine to every WiFi I've tried to join (open and ones that I know the password for). That is at least 3 different models of D-Link routers, a few Belkin and others that I can't recall.
I don't count a connection until I can actually view the internet and live stream the radio and I have been on it for more than an hour (I was proving to an ipad & ipad2 users that there was nothing wrong with a WiFi router and it was their toys that kept on dropping the connection).
I am was using the E7 and now F3 stock ROMs.
I did have a problem for about half a day. It would say connected to the WiFi but I couldn't get to the internet. I had to switch off the WiFi and connect via data connection and then try again with the WiFi - sometimes it would work sometimes it didn't. The only thing I installed prior to the problem was the Twitter app (from the market). Once I uninstalled that app and rebooted the phone everything was working fine. I can't say for definite that it was the cause of the problem.
To the OP: since you are connected to the work's WiFi, could the problem with not seeing the internet be due to the Work using a proxy server. That is what my work has.

Well I have a router that was supplied by imagine.ie, its a Motorola router and they with-hold the password to change settings on the router, have you heard the like????
Anyway trying that twitter suggestion, maybe the sync function was causing intermitttent wifi problems
Edit: Scrap them not giving out passwords http://www.imagine.ie/wimax_hub_setup.html
After a few hours survey I could connect my phone to the wifi, but Im not sure if this method works for you, anyhow I will explain here check it on your phone and report back
-Downaload the application "wifi static" from the market and install
-turn your wifi on and then run the application
-in the application choose add configuration,a window will popup saying have found a wifi connection will ask you to set for this connection or no just accept
-exit the application and turn off wifi
-turn on wifi and try to connect to internet,if you can connect then you are done if you can not go to below
-go to wifi static and choose the configuration which is already set and change the DNS I changed DNS1 to 8.8.8.8 and DNS2 8.8.4.4
-reboot (maybe not neccessary but recommended to do)
-turn on wifi and connect to internet and check if you still can not then...
-wait for me for further study

Wifi Issues p6800 3g

HI there,
i just received my 7.7 tab today.
but i have tons of issues with my tab connection to wifi.
i have a dlink dir635 router.
all my other device works perfectly, ipad , laptop , android phone etc.
but this tab 7.7 is getting max singal from my router, the single is good, but the speed is so slow.
i can't even download anything from the market, or even surf the web with the browwser.. sometimes it will say cannot connect to the web even tho the tab is connecting to the router with max signal.
i have try using Wireless g only, b only, or n only.
even using 20mhz nothing works
is there an issues with the tab itself??
thank you

Hi Steve,
I have the same router and the same problems as yours. I have change all kind of configurations on my router and the problem is still there.
This issue have been already discussed in some other post and it seems that it is affecting many people. My Tab connects to other routers just fine but i have also run into some places where i havent been able to use wifi.
I have tried with the newest firmware and the problem is still there, however the problem has been fixed for the wifi-only model p6810 in a recent firmware update so Samsung should be able to fix it in an update that cannot come soon enough.
I think it is OK for me to post my problem here since my prob almost the same.
I also own galaxy tab 8.9 and the tab can connected to my hd2 phone running on windows mobile 6.5 thru wifi router software but my new tab 7.7 somehow can't scan hd2 wifi.
Is there any configuration that we need to set?
i switched to my old d-link di-524.
now my 7.7 tab is getting better connection..
can finally surf the web on it, but the speed still not the best.
my ipad 2 can get max speed on it.
damn samsung this tab has been out for 3 months.. and we still getting wifi issues??

I had similar issue with not only my Tab but also my iPad 2 until I reset the channel on the router. Channel 8 somehow does not work well and cause the WiFi connection on my Tab and iPad 2 to drop. My MBA and Samsung notebook are working though.

I had the same problem, repeated on two different GS4 phones today. I tried everything possible to figure out what was wrong but couldn't fix the problem. The phones would connect to my wireless router, but would send and receive data only intermittently. Sometimes, resetting the router, or pulling the phone's battery, or going into airplane mode would be the only ways to get the phone to actually send and receive data, but it would only work for 20 seconds - 3 minutes. Every other wireless device and wired device works on this router, except for the GS4. And the GS4s both worked in-store on their wireless network. My guess is that it's a hardware or software compatibility issue with certain routers. Oh and mobile data worked like a charm.
What kind of wireless router do you have?
Maybe you need to pay your internet bill

My S4 has the exact same problem on a DLink 655. Works ok on other networks I have tried but on the DLink it will work for about 20 seconds and then data stops flowing. No other device I have has any issues.
To figure out whether the issues is the SGS4 or the SGS4<>your router you really need to try it from some different locations. The i9100 had tons of issues with D-Link routers so perhaps that's what's happening here. My solution when I had issues with my i9100 was to ditch D-Link forever and move to NetGear and I haven't had a problem since (at least at home).

My router is a DIR-655 as well. Looks like this may be an actual issue with D-Link routers? Anybody having issues with another brand of router?
And if it IS an issue with D-Link, who's at fault for the problem? Samsung or D-Link? My 655 has been the most reliable piece of network equipment I've ever owned. It works with everything, except for a Galaxy S4...this is annoying.

yeah i actually got my phone 2 days ago and right out of the box had this problem, i was on other sites saying that the s3 i900 had alot of those issues on 4.2 and 4.2.1 jellybean.. lots of users reporting that when the upgraded to 4.2 ect they started having those issues.. i hope its a jellybean issue not hardware issue.. i agree with you though i have had my d-link 655 for years and never had an issue till now.. i have my s3 and iphone 5 all running on my dlink just fine S4 not so much..
Same problem here - excelent connection at 150 Mbps with my dlink dir-855, but dies quickly. wifi toggle helps. Tried a lot of settings, fixed ip/dhcp, 2.4 / 5 Ghz and etc - problem persists.
i have TP-LINK router but i drained my battery till phone went off then charged till 100% and no issues so far wifi works fine... just wondering why this problem could appear...
Seems like I've found the solution - in router settings, in firewall section disabled "TCP Endpoint Filtering" (set from "Address Restricted" to "Endpoint Independent"). Have not had any issues since than. But can't actually tell if it puts the network to any risk compared to previous settings.
i have also different problem
everything seems good but i have a big problem with wi fi but
when i try it with s2, it is working
whenever i want to access internet with wi fi on s4, in Wi fi menu, it writes -----> in order
1) "Obtaining ip adress..." and later
2)saved,secured
3)Obtaining ip adress...
4)failed to obtain ip
5)newtwork disabled becauseinternet connection is low
my modem's security is WPA*Wpa2 psk
and my modem model is

Samsung galaxy s4 wifi issues
I have the same problem, seems to be a wifi issue with 4.2.2, my router is DIR 655 Dlink, wifi only works if I just connected it then its either slow or disconnects. very frustrating, also I get 3G but its slow.
A family member just got a S4 and is facing the same issue with the DIR655.
I've updated firmware to latest version for my A4 hardware model, version 1.35ww but the problem persists. So I had to bring out another Access Point (TP-Link TL-MR3020)to cater to his needs...
So who should we complain to? the DLink has been serving me faithfully for the past 3 years+, infact the DIR655 was one of the best wireless routers around and I never an issue with any of my wireless toys, until it met the S4...

Can you confirm that this fix works for a lengthy period of time? Is it still working? I thought I had fixed mine once (the phone was working for a while) and then it just stopped transferring data altogether. I think tinkering around with some things can make it better or worse, depending on what it is.

Same here. I was contemplating replacing my 655 after 6 years of service without ever having to reset it only because it will not pass magic packets from WAN to LAN...at least the A versions don't (I have A2). And this is becoming more of a frequent problem as of late. Every other device connects without issue, even my mom's S2. I'm on WiFi right now on my HTC Vivid...no problems.
Which brings me to this...everybody in this thread with a 655, please list your hardware version and firmware version. It can be found at the top of the router's web interface page.
Mine is..
Hardware Version: A2
Firmware Version: 1.34NA

WI-FI problems

Guys, I'm having the ugly Wi-Fi problems that many other Samsung users have had but don't want to dump my phone or leave Samsung. I'm seeing this reportined on nearly all of the latest Samsung phones but my Skyrocket II no problems worked great 4.1.2 - basically its the one where the phone connects to the router and but won't transmit data over the connection but cellular works fine.
Using literally every work around seems to give me 3-5mins of browsing and then I get dumped from my router; does anyone know the real permanent fix? I've seen other phones suggest rooting the phone and dumping earlier build files for Wi-Fi but wanted to check the pulse of the Samsung Android nation before I dump my phone tomorrow since I'm well within the 30-day window.
BTW - Powersaving mode is enabled....so far works "ok" without it on ~ spoke to soon sluggish as hell.

My son has the same problem with his S4. My S3 has no problems with our WIFI. I think you are on a D-LINK router. And that seemes to be the problem. If you connect to,for example, a Linksys router, your connection should work.
Try to connect to a different router at a friends house for instands.
Good luck !!!

WOW...called it D-Link DIR-655 to be exact...its the WPA security which is the culprit...after playing with my settings I got in on auto everything including duel wpa/wpa2 but TKIP not AES. Works like a champ at 54 Mbps on TKIP but AES 65 Mbps dies every time ~ and it only took reaming out ATT and swapping my phone to come home and troubleshoot it more, LOL.
Thanks for follow up but I'm sure if you tweak your router or by a new one like I might since you've confirmed my thoughts (although this thing has worked better than any Linksys I've ever owned!).
Thanks good luck back to you and your son!

[Q] Kit Kat Wifi Issues

With 4.2.2 I had no issues with wifi and can still go back to that version and have no issues, but with version 4.3 and 4.4 I have had and still have the following problem.
I have a list of known wifi connection points as well as available access points. Everything appears as it should, but the wifi will not automatically connect to any wifi (protected or unprotected/known or previously unknown) without first turning the wifi off and back on. Additionally, this only works if the persistent background wifi option is toggled off. If I do toggle the wifi on and off and connect to an available access point everything is fine so long as I remain in range and stay connected. If I go out of range and lose the connection, when I next reenter the range and the access point shows up on the list it will not connect unless wifi is cycled on and off. This happens every single day at work and home, although there is a workaround, it is quite annoying to have to cycle the wifi off and on. The networks will show as available and if I click on them and try to force it to connect, it still won't work unless I cycle on and off.
I have seen prior threads with this issue on 4.3 and there was a topic in the official Google issues page and was frankly hoping desperately that 4.4 would fix it, but alas, it has not. I know it is not the device itself since reverting back to 4.2.2 solves the problem.
Does anyone know of a permanent fix to this wifi issue that doesn't involve reverting to an older version of android or some kludged together solution?
Ya.. I have also been facing this problem since i have installed KitKat 4.4 on my i9300
Are you stock? Maybe try another ROM? I had the exact same problem, but my problem was my wifi AP.
1- My router was setup for a/b/g/n, I set it to only what I really had using the Wifi AP, which was g/n
2- I had a weird cable modem to router to Wifi AP setup. The router was handing out IPs, not the Wifi AP. I removed the router and only let the Wifi AP give IP addresses (DHCP). It seemed like the "further hops" away that the DHCP addresses were, the more issues i had with my Android connection.
No other devices on my network had these issues, but doing the above made a world of difference.
All that made my connections lightening quick, no issues at all since then.
odd Wifi behaviour
I got a refurbished delivered N10 last evening, came with 4.2.2, played with it a little, did a network benchmark test (FTP off a LAN NAS) and was getting comparable peformance to my other fastest system (a Thinkpad Ubuntu laptop). It seemed stable but I only used it for like an hour as 4.2.2. I was getting FTP of max 4MB/s over a N-router.
I then let it OTA to 4.3 and then played with it for some hours. Issue I found was the Wifi would work and then have "authentication problem" I had to turn Wifi off then on to make it connect to router. I've had that issue with other devices at times. I was thinking of staying on 4.3 to allow 4.4 to have another bugfix (its not been long out on N10) but I had a key issue for me (PPP Widget didn't work) so I did a stock 4.4. flash upgrade.
On 4.4. the Wifi speed is still fast, but periodically it just stops working, a glitch.
One key thing that stands out is the N10 is connecting at much higher Mbit speeds than any other of my devices, it is showing 130Mbits vs say 20-65Mbits on other devices. I'm wondering if my N10 is "too good" for my router an old low-spec refurbished model (Cisco E1200 v2, which I flashed to latest DD-WRT) ?
I'm not so far disappointed with network performance, just network stability, but I can't tell for sure if its the N10's fault or my router's fault. I'll play with settings a while til I find something stable.
When I first got my N10 I had a lot of trouble with wifi connection. Mostly authentication issues, or it would authenticate but not have internet access. It was frustrating, and Google's support was clueless.
I then tried using wireless tether from my N4 and it worked as it should. The issue ended up being the Arris router that Time Warner uses. I bought a Linksys router and have had 0 issues since. So if you're using an Arris router, or it shares the same chipset, that might be the issue.
The router is the Arris DG860.

Good anecdote.
Well in our house, the proliferation of gadgets has changed progressively to a large number, I make it 14 devices from an initial 2 devices 5 years ago. I count 4 wired and my 4 devices, my son's 2 and my daughter's 3 and my wife's 1. They all compete for router bandwidth, Wifi spectrum, router CPU / cache.
What I might do with this high-performance (capability and demand N10) is segment my network using an old G router I hard fix to non-overlapping channels from N-router, and connect the low-spec devices to the G and high-spec to the N. That will involve no $ and naturally reduce congestion. I run a NAS and download media to it and then stream to gadgets off NAS so I'm Wifi-limited often more than Internet-limited, and even tweaking I get 2MB-4MByte (16Mbit~32Mbit) off a NAS is making my typical LAN speed the same as the Internet bandwidth I buy (16Mbit).
My NEtbook (EEE 1015PN) if it ever felt a Wifi hiccup it would lock-out that frequency and so not see the router til I powered off netbook and remove battery.
I do wonder if some of the N10 Wifi complaints are really just generic or bad combinations with router or "straw that broke the camel's back".
I'm having wifi issues with my N10 as well. I had a few wifi issues at work, but not at home while using 4.3. Now with 4.4 I'm having serious wifi connection issues both at work and at home. In fact my N5 running 4.4.1 is having issues connecting to wifi both at work and at home. Not as often as my N10, but it still happens. I'm running stock on both and have no problem connecting to either network with my laptop.
I've installed wifi fixer, but so far it doesn't seem to be helping much. Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be done to fix this that doesn't involve rooting either device?
I'm now running 4.4.2, and I'm experiencing better wifi connectivity, but it still drops out more than it did on version 4.3. Is anyone else having this issue?

I'm in the same boat, more drops in 4.4.2 than on 4.3 and I'm running stock
same here...waiting for a fix
experiment with the router

Some of your problems might be just coincidence, something changed in your area around the same time as you upgraded. Some of these are just the wrinkles of firmware of device vs firmware of router, some combinations work bad and isn't really "fault" of Android in that you can't test every combination. You could wait for a fix from Android... or just try to avoid the wrinkle by changing settings on the router. A common thing is to move the router from auto to fixed channel and fix to 20mhz narrow. Go the place you mostly are with the N10 and use a Wifi analyser to find the least-congested channel and then set the router to that. What that does is reduce channel-hopping and gives less opportunity for firmware issues on both router and the Android device.
I also had a problem with my N7 when I moved house. The answer was to flash DD-WRT on my router and the problems went away.
So either wait+complain or go look at your router now.
Right now I have DD-WRT on an old refurbished Cisco E1200 and I set it to channel 3 with 20mhz and I got very good Wifi performance. With the stock Cisco firmware I was getting Android Wifi drops and poor performance. Yes, that's partly Android's fault but I fixed it myself quicker flashing firmware on the router.
I also took opportunity in DD-WRT to setup IPTABLES for a transparent proxy so all the devices in my LAN now share a large harddrive as http cache so e.g. any downloads from Play store for say my N4.... is cached to my N10 so I only ever download anything once.
If you have issues still with the N10, then what I find solves a lot of problem is do a stock flash of 4.4.2, on setup untick all the backup+restore from Google, then manually install and configure yourself to make it "vanilla". That often fixes accumulated wrinkles unique to your history of your device and places to more mainstream with less likely of having a unique problem. I do that on all my Android devices now (N4, N7, N10).
Similar wifi problems here
I've had similar issues with my N10.
I will have fast internet speeds (30+ Mbps) and it will just freeze. I'll be watching youtube and it will start buffering. Doing a speed test on my phone shows the speeds as normal. It makes no difference whether connected to 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz wifi.
I just resolved my WiFi issue this past weekend. Connectivity is rock solid
Here is what I did I.
Purchased my own cable modem/router. New router had updated firmware. time warner cable modem did not.
Change beacon interval from 100 to 20 on router and repeater.
Made sure router was on a less congested channel.
All is rock solid
YMMV

Great! Often just tweaking settings can do wonders. I flashed DD-WRT on mine and it solved a lot of issues on an old low-spec router.
Hey Guys,
I posted this in General section but saw this so I will add this info:
I just want to share what and why I did it. First off I did not have problems with my wifi on 4.2.2 with the Nexus10. the second that I went to Slim Kat and Vanir 4.4.2 I had weak wifi signal at work and at home when my nexus 7 slim kat and my galaxy note 2 Vanir did not. I noticed that RAM was also weird on the nexus 10. Even though it showed 2gb of ram on the specs it was only showing 1099 on 4.4.2 when I show that I have 1647 ram available with 4.2.2.
Concerning the OS using Ram. Google said that they would make Kit Kat more RAM friendly but I was using 535mb of RAM for 4.4.2 and right now I am showing only 357.3 mb for 4.2.2. I am using the same apps launchers and screen savers
I just flashed back to 4.2.2 this morning so I will update later, I do see an improvement in the wifi though.
I just want to say that I love Slim Kat and that is why I am on the 4.2.2 I just think Google somehow hosed up the wifi on the Nexus 10.
B][/B] Ok so I am at work and have went back and forth between 4.4.2 and 4.2.2. the 4.4.2 connects and disconnects back and forth. When it does connect to router but it says poor connection and it is only 24mbps. "It drops way more than connected" I am 45 ft from router in an open environment.
The 4.2.2 Slim Kat has a fair connection with 78 Mbps and has not dropped once. So I don't know what the difference is with Kit Kat compared to Jelly Bean but for my nexus 10 my wifi is great now with Jelly Bean. I wish I could figure out why and fix but I do not know programming.
I also installed on both 4.4.2 and 4.2.2 a app called WiFi Connection Fixer *Root* by ZEXTR. It did not help 4.4.2 but it did help with 4.2.2. this app helps connect to poor connections or when Android says avoided poor connection.
I don't know why the Nexus 10 is having issues with wifi with KitKat but I wish I could fix it. So I will be on 4.2.2 until a new version comes out and I will test it to see if it fixed it.
update; I have used 4.2.2 all day with the wifi connection fixer and I have not dropped wifi once and the download speed is fast. It is much faster than what 4.4.2 was, at least on my tablet.

Nexus 10 4.4.3 WiFi Bottleneck Problem
Hello there everyone,
I just wanted to confirm that I personally found a fix on my end for my Nexus 10 WiFi bandwidth problem that was definitely evident for many people that upgraded from 4.4.2. First off, I'm totally stock. I will most likely root & ROM this thing in this near future. I was having a bottleneck on my Nexus 10 around ~2 mbps when I tested using the speedtest.net application (may not be the best measurement application but it works). I ended up fixing the problem by changing my router settings in the WiFi section of my browser based software to N/G Mixed instead of just Mixed (which allows 802.11a/b as well as 802.11g/n to run on the router's WiFi signal). I use DD-WRT on my router as well so that may have played a factor in it but I did NOT see an increase in bandwidth until making the N/G Mixed change in the settings. I found this suggestion earlier in the thread and wanted to give it some credit. Thanks everyone!
