Given the reports that Google CS are advising that the screen lift problem has been resolved. Has anybody who recently received a Nexus 7 from Google, got a picture of the internals near the screen bezel that shows what hardware changes have been made ?
If not, then I will continue to assume that the hardware has not been updated... and that the Google CS advice regarding fixes is just "words".
Deag
I think the problem is shorter screws. I don't think anything has changes other then that.

the answer is somewhere here in these forums, I came looking for it again, and found this thread. The revisions id is on the box, apparently. Still looking for the thread

not necessarily hardware revisions, but production runs:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831737
I doubt google CS would know if a hardware issue is resolved and even if they did know they wouldn't know which stock their warehouse is shipping. They will always tell you the tablets are fine. WHat CS rep from any company will tell you over the phone not to order the product?

Hello!
I'm leaning towards buying an ASUS TF. From some of the posts on here, it looks like some models aren't able to be rooted. My question is, when I'm at the store buying the TF, is there anything I can look at on the box to tell whether that particular TF is rootable or not?
Also... would you buy a TF again now knowing what you know about it since you've had one for x amount of time? If not, what would you get instead?
Thanks in advance!
what the heck im feeling helpful today
yes theres is a way to tell right in store although the clerk may look @ you funny because they have no idea about this take a look @ the back of the box and look at the serial. ideally you want one that starts with B50 or B60. BUT if theres only B70 you may or may not be able to root. gimmie a sec and ill point you to the thread which explains it all in glorious detail....
not the one i was looking for but it'll do

I have no idea if this is kosher or not for XDA but I'm about to post my 32GB TF101 up on eBay. It is the B60 variant and fully rooted. PM me if you are interested... might save me the eBay hassle.

Why are you selling it?
i have two TFs one thats rooted and one thats not. even though i cant root YET on second one i would even buy a third if i saw a need., the stock firmware is good enough, and just so you know they are getting closer to rooting all but the 3g models, hoping for root by years end for my B70k, i just want to run revolution HD on it for the speed of the rom.
Hey actually, is android revolution super fast? I mean, is there a benchmark/review between the three roms right now?
I've had my TF for about two months and I absolutely love it. If I was to buy another tablet I would probably get the Slider instead of the TF since I like the hideaway keyboard. I was thinking about getting it but didn't want to wait for months just to get it so I opted for the TF.

i havent seen any test but i have revo HD on one of my TFs and its faster then stock, and i also have it on my Inspire 4g and its been the most reliable and stable rom that i put on it.
I'm pretty sure at this point, you won't find anything lower than the B70's in stores. If I'm not mistaken, those were from the first few batches produced. Then again, I could be wrong. I should also mention that I have one of the rootable TF's and I've never had any desire whatsoever to root it. I guess ymmv / to each their own on that though
If I wanted to try and repurpose a flippy phone to slave to a smart phone, and be able to pick up and end calls, would there be a particular model or OSS base I'd have the best luck with? Like having a smartphone, but my parents don't, and I want to find something bulletproof. If it could it somehow dial out as well, I'd be set, but one thing at a time I guess.

This would be cool to have. I'm sure there are a number of Nokia or Motorola phones out there that would work with Android if you're skilled enough as a hacker.
Gonna dust this off. What other ways could one go about having a flip phone pair to take calls from your smartphone, outside of fabrication wholesale? I dunno any cheaply disposable phones that can be reprogrammed, and maybe the Raspberry Pi could work, but it seems like a waste to throw that much hardware at a device that can stick in your ear. Anypony?

This is an awesome idea, though I am not sure how you'd do it.
The best I could find was this:

Which I actually found for sale here, but I have no idea how reputable that site is...
http://www.dinodirect.com/headset-tablet-pc-companion-bluetooth-dialer-phone.html
Anyone know of anything better?
I have bought some basic stuff (no phones ) from at dinodirect.com and it was ok for was it was (cheep).

Okay, Nice to know that there is a commercial option, but is there anywhere I can get bluetooth headsets and clamshell cases in bulk? I know a decent amount a solder-fu, and a friend with a CNC, so I might be able to get some sort of kickstarter going maybe perhaps?

Works as described
...and still on this thread, I have been looking for a Bluetooth Flip Dialer for ages. Lots of mini ones now, I dont want the worlds smallest bloody thing. I just want a normal size Flip phone handset to bluetooth to my smart phone.
After talking to many people , most of them have asked not to buy the first ones as they might have defects , am wanting response from the people who have bought it already , like last year one s suffered housing colour coming off , one x had WiFi problem, I don't want if there are any problems in the one ! I am selling my two HTC one s for this incredible one . Thank you for responses !

Just buy it in April, you should be fine. And if you are not satisfied you can return it and buy another one anyway.
Mine is fine. No problems with it.

Mine is ok too but there where/are some with gaps around the edges of the phone where the aluminium bonds with the plastic.

you mean around the speaker parts....
either-way there was a reason for the delay, so its always better to wait a little

Definitely remember seeing a picture of a guys phone where it had a gap in the bonding process on the left hand side of the phone and anyway by the time they ship all the little issues should be ironed out.
Buy in April if you are worried about defects.
Defects are most likely to be found in first batch, no matter which smartphone you go for this includes Samsung and iPhones this is certainly my experience anyway.
Like someone said earlier if its defective simply get replacement.
I got mine on the 18th March and I can't fault it.
We had a thread where the advice was to worry about the later batches because the shortage would make them rush the manufacturing thus causing many defects in the construction. There also have been many concerns about the first batch citing poor build quality.
I haven't actually seen one in person yet but I've watched all the videos and read all the reviews. This phone is praised as being the best built mobile phone ever made. The design and construction, the machining of the aluminum body for example, are on a level I've never seen in a consumer product like this. The general impression of reviewers when they first get their hands on it is awe at how incredible it is.
Accept perfection for what it is, almost perfect.
Just my take on all the fretting...

This won't affect later batches as the shortage is due to the lack of camera components.
If you want to build 10 phones yet you only have 5 cameras to include on the phones why would you rush building all 10 then? Shouldn't you be focusing on the manufacturing instead while still waiting for the other 5 so the processing would still be in sync? Unless of course you wanna see your employees slacking/nothing to do because you rushed up finishing the 5 phones yet the other 5 cannot be made yet due to lacking of parts.

Hello everyone!
I cracked my Nexus 4 tonight =/ Interestingly, a few weeks ago, it fell 9 feet on hard floor and didn't break. Last night it falls 3 feet from my night stand and it is cooked -__-
Completely unresponsive to touch. Can't even put the thing in Silent/Vibrate LOL
I haven't been able to reach out to LG because of the time, but from collective experience, what's the most economical way to get this fixed?
Fix it yourself ?
You can buy replacement parts

You're probably right, I'm just afraid if I buy the parts, the new one will be some crappy quality one. I opened a claim with LG... Let's see what they say.

don't remember the figure off hand, but someone said the repair cost was very reasonable directly through lg. search for the other busted screen threads here..
There are quite a frew threads on this - it happened to me before oem parts were easily available and it was just as expensive if not more to buy it and do it yourself. LG does it for $140.
Title says it all, do Refurbished 6p's from Google come with new batteries? I did a search on Google but couldn't find too much information.

Not really sure but i got mine from Google and haven't had an issue with 6p dying off at 25% its working great
Based on the refurb I just got, they do not.
However, no issues with early shutdown, battery appears to be in better shape than my old one.
Thanks for the responses. Anyone else have experience with a refurbished 6p? If so, do you think the battery was new?

Nope, they do not all come with new batteries.
I went through 3 reforms.
1st -> Bad screen. Had a band about 1/4 inch at the top that was not responsive.
2nd -> Bad battery and would shut down early
3rd -> The one I have now. Not sure if the battery was replaced, but I don't have issues.

Unless it was refurbished BECAUSE of the battery, it's best to assume that it has the original battery when the device first was made.
Mfgs don't care about their consumers enough to be proactive, unless the battery is busted, there's no reason for them to change it/assume it should be replaced, even when It's a known fact a lot of them have been an issue. Don't fix what's not broken, even though it's very possible it will be eventually.

And I actually just came across this that touches on what we 6p users are going through.
. They cover huawei's actions, and well Chinese companies as a whole. Kinda off topic? But interesting none the less if you are interested in electronics and want to see the perspective of people that actually live in China
