Nexus 7 - Gone sluggish post install of Cerberus...? Is the common? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Installed Cerberus having seen many folks on here rave about bit, but got to say since installing it, coincidentally or otherwise, my N7 has become very sluggish and unresponsive at times.. not yet uninstalled Cerberus to see if this is the answer as I'm not convinced yet...
Anybody with similar, or other suggestions?
Running Stock is un-rooted as per out the box.

Have Cerberus installed without issue. Rooted, stock though I don't think that is an issue.

One of the first apps I installed on mine. It is still stock, not rooted.
I have not noticed any issues.

Rooted with stock. NO issues with Cerberus for me.

OK thanks for the feedback, will see what else could be the cause then... may be a lack of storage space now I'm down to under 1GB... my do a a factory reset and re-load my apps, especially as Asphelt7 will tonight no longer load properly.. stuck a Gameloft splash-screen

What bugs?
Screen flickering ,random lags when accessing settings or apps.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I've seen none of those problems at all. No screen flickering, no lag, nothing.

Got a source for the upcoming update?
U must be the lucky one, I been searching and seems many have this problems. Do u use the Google services like all the sync features??? What about drive?

Chrome seems laggier than it should be, hope there is some issue there than can be fixed to improve performance.
Every Nexus 7 I've had so far (that'd be 4) have all had washed out looking greens and yellows and over saturated whites. Hoping that is something a patch can fix.
Tegra 3's Prism smart dimmer feature causes the screen to look over exposed while and after videos play (fades away after a few seconds). I've disabled the smart dimmer, so it's okay for me, but seems like an issue that needs a patch.
I have seen nothing in JB 4.1.1 that would require an update at this point.
Might as well expect an update for dark pixels.

Screen flickering is a known hardware issue
Mine lags bad from time to time. I wonder if it has to do with google now because my galaxy nexus lags just as bad if not worse when i tap the google now search bar. I was trying to find and app (shazam) and thought it would be faster to look for it through now, but it lagged and lagged and lagged. By the time I got the app open, the song was over and I couldn't tag it.
My Gnexus is great, fast ,no complains at all,Google now is quick I got no lag, but on the nexus 7 it becomes a problem to the point that I have to switch it off and use the browser.

I thought this was in relation to auto brightness?

I use dropbox which is pretty much the same in terms of resources. I have play movies, music, currents, books. I have pandora on there, google now, generally everything you could need. I've done this on both stock 4.1.1 and on Paranoid Android (every iteration). Literally NO lag. Even being slightly underclocked.

Nope, it's from a poorly soldered wifi chip, that is drawing power away from the screen when wifi is low.
I had this issue, and called Google personally for support, and the person confirmed that the screen flickering was hardware, not software.

That's what I thought he meant, but I think he means 4.1.2 to fix any bugs (that I haven't noticed) in 4.1.1

Never had any of that so I doubt its a "software issue". If it is its likely something you installed.
quick update about the lag on the nexus7:
i used Nexus Root Toolkit v1.5.2 to root and install recovery about 4 times ,and in all this times i had problems with lag ,so two days ago i decided to restart again and root the n7 with Galaxy Nexus ToolKit v2.0 but without installing the custom recovery.
now it very quick and as no lag at all,and yes i loaded the identical apps all the previous time.
ideas???

I think most of the lag is because of a bad app or a setting somewhere. Glad to hear you got it sorted out. I'm just looking forward to the update that fixes the bootloader issues with accessing recovery without the usb cable or using terminal commands/adb/apps.

Why does this thing lock up all the time?

This device is blazing fast most of the time, but it will inexplicably lock up, completely, for a few minutes at a time for seemingly no reason. Right now it's frozen on a youtube video and I can't turn it off or use the screen. The device is also unusable really when installing apps, and will lag heavily in Google Now sometimes.
Is this just me? Or 4.2.1?
Just you. My N7 is still operating at warp speed and doesn't lock up..

Are you stock? If so I heard people saying turning off the sync for currents will help, for Google now lag I feel its performs better if you turn off the hot word in setting. But with that you can't say Google and start voice search

I'm stock 4.2.1 and don't have those issues. I do have currents (and various other apps) disabled, so like previous response said try that. Otherwise maybe go with a factory reset.
When my gnex updated to 4.2 it's performance suffered until I factory reset, now it's been much better.

My best guess would be you have installed an app that is not compatible with 4.2.
How about posting a list of what you have installed, if you use multi-user, and if you are stock (not rooted), and we can give comments.
I agree. I'm running PA and rock solid. I was also rock solid on stock.
I've never had it lock up. I flashed a Trinity kernel once that caused sleep of death... but it was a known issue.

I have a pretty decent amount of apps installed. I'll post them in a minute, but no, I'm not multi-user, and I'm stock. I'll root and put a new rom on this thing if it's worth it, I figured it'd be fine the way it came.
btw, here are my androbench results. Are these slow?

thanks, I'll try disabling those.
Over 100 apps in total, my andronbench write speed is clearly an error so just compare read and app open macros.
My apps open much faster than yours, which I'd put down to PA ROM and kernel. Maybe your write speed is a bit slow?
Can you download "forever gone" from market and try a full fill and delete? Apparently helps reset the memory controller to improve performance.

I just want to know if I should restore, root and flash a new rom on this thing. Can someone check out my androbench scores and tell me if they're normal?

Still Constantly rebooting....

I've been having random reboots ever since.....well, a long time ago. No matter what ROM, kernel, or android version, it still persists. It happens at least 5 times a day. Sometimes 10. It even does it when I have zero downloaded apps.
Now that I'm done complaining, I'd like some help solving this formidable problem. Has anyone experienced the same thing? What can I do to stop it? Etc.
This is with an 8gb WiFi.
Thanks

After a reboot, you can know what cause this reboot with "last_kmsg" log. Look here for how to get it : https://code.google.com/p/tegraowners-ics-rom/wiki/How_to_get_logs
OK I did that. I scrolled through the unending file and at the bottom it said, "no errors found". Does this mean it doesn't know what caused the reboot, or did I miss something?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
My nexus 7 rebooted while typing out this reply....so frustrating that this just happens out of nowhere. At least five times a day for me too.
Can't be the rom...I've been on pa 3.0 for a while and it was stable before. I don't think it's the kernel because I've flashed the top 3 kernels and it fixes nothing.
I am thinking it's a rogue app because my nexus is also draining battery very quickly and something is causing non stop wake locks and keeping my device from sleeping. Now I have to hunt down this app out of my 100+ apps
Android can be very frustrating at times

Revert to pure stock and if the problem persists assume that you have a hardware defect. Hardware defects are not curable with software - they are cured by replacement of the hardware. ( BTW, If you ran your device for significant lengths of time at extreme OC levels, you might have caused the damage; but that is for you to decide)
Mine has rebooted once in three months - but I could reproduce the crash ( using Chrome Beta on a specific WebGL demo ). That is very different than a spontaneous crash though, so I guess I could say it has *never* happened to me - and I have used the tab extensively every day for those three months.

New with nexus 10 but.... Apps keep crashing ...

I had a nexus 7 and Asus transformer tf300 and a sold them to buy the nexus 10, nice tablet but this is getting annoying with apps crashing all the time and I did not have that problem with the other ones. I bought this one las Sunday and came with 4.2.2 so my question is a software or hardware problem? I have been looking around and applying different solutions but nothing.
Thank you.

root and after, try a new kernel
ktmanta
trinity
franco
you can make restarts ocure more rarely using one of this variants but they still remains .
try a custom rom also . mr robinsons for example
if the problem persist ... get it back and forget nexus 10

Dang, was hoping for new batch before I RMA
Thanks for quick reply
Same problem here.
I've had the same problem too. All was working fine for around a month, but now I'm finding that apps will crash for no reason. It doesn't have to be when they're being "touched", they'll sometimes just self-destruct with no prompting from myself. A reboot seems to fix it for a while, but the problem seems to come back. Anyone found a solution to this? I'm not keen to install a custom rom as that shouldn't be necessary!
nexus 10 crashing
The same for me, everyday i have to restart it, apps keep crashing all day. I think its the ekynos, my galaxy nexus doesnt behave in that way and i have more apps installed.
I think the problem is related to memory leak. When the apps starts to crash the free memory is running really low, sometimes even below 50mb and all background services are restarting and being killed by system over and over again. A system reboot can fix this until the free memory running low again. Aokp and some other custom roms alleviated this problem, but no one fix it. Maybe Android 4.3 or 5.0 might fix this.

Screen unresponsive

Basically, my N7's screen is frequently unresponsive. I was trying to start something in my launcher, and tried pressing it at least 6 times, but nothing happened. Then I tried swiping between launcher pages, and that worked just fine the first time.
This just started happening on an almost constant basis within the last 30-60 minutes, and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or heard of anyone else experiencing it. I'm running the latest Minimus with Jassy's latest kernel (I just flashed them this morning, but it was probably 4-5 hours ago at least), with the DPI set to 290 (I just raised it from 280 to see if that would help anything). I also cleared the cache and dalvik.
Any ideas?
My girlfriends tablet has done that too, then it just randomly goes back to just fine

Why don't you try stock and see if you have an issue. This would allow you to rule things out at least.

Same here this has happened to me on stock, but a reboot fixed it.
I've only experienced this using Chrome. it got so bad that I'm using the molasses-in-the-winter-going-up-hill Firefox browser just to be able to web surf.
Same here stock, and clean ROM.. Haven't noticed anything on kanged cm nor pa yet. Can't get otg to work worth a crap either I bought chainfires app to help with otg worked with stock based ROMs but not cm based ROMs .. I'm pissed I bought the 16 GB model..

It happened to me as well (complete stock). Mostly (if not all) instances were with Chrome. I don't remember it happening again since I switched to Chrome beta. (Fingers crossed).
I just took mine back to Best Buy and exchanged it for the 32gb model. The guy at the store asked if anything was wrong with the tablet and I told him that it would freeze up and I would have to reboot in order to fix it. He told me that all tablets and phones freeze like that and that I should reboot the device at least once a day to prevent the freezing of the screen. I thanked him and told him that I would do that. These salesmen must think that everyone is as dumb as they are.
I hope my new tablet doesn't have the same problem, because if it does I might give up on the new nexus 7.
