Swap partition - Acer Iconia A500

I see that a swap partition can be created on SGS3 to extend memories? Do you think it's possible to do it on the a500? This can be very good for the system.. 512 of ram is lite for ICS.... and JB...

Apps2SD Paritition Question for 16Gb Class 6

I'm going to be running Cyanogen's 5.0.6 with Amon_RA's, I know that I can format my card through there with the newest version of the RA, my question is though what are the best partition size to create for a 16GB card class 6, I'm not sure what the swap size should be and what size ext partition should be I would like about 1GB for apps. Then which is the best to use, ext2 ext3 or ext4, I know this question has been answer on the mytouch and g1 millions of times just not sure if its the same thing on Nexus. I'm not sure what the advantages are over the different exts.
Use ext4. and swap is no longer required.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that Apps2SD on CM will only work with ext4 partitions...

You're correct. I'll update my post. Thanks
ok so if swap isn't needed anymore then what is the maximum size ext4 I can have before seeing a performance decrease or does it matter.

Shouldn't matter

Apps2sd on htc hero g2

hi there
hope u people are fine...
my question is what is the max size we can keep on ext. partition on sd card
i have 8 gb card
currently i have 512 mb on my ext partition but still whenever i install more apps it give error memory is very less and phone works very slow it is always aroung 54- 72 mb only to before starting any app or game i have click on task killer
is there any solution to this...
or any rom which can solve this isssue currently running 1.5 froydvillain
because of this issue i have started hating my hero
please let me know any solution to this
Simple solution back up ur EXT - partition & format it. Otherwise Download Quick system info App from the market & Check your App2sd is working correctly or not ..
thanks for your reply
what should be the size of ext3 partion if i have 8 gb memory card ???
512 mb or more
i think it doesn't matter you can make 512 or 1024 Mb also .. but just too not sure
the size of the ext-partition should not be the problem...
format your sdcard (back it up first)
and be sure to create an ext2 partition just to be on the safe side
some kernels do not support ext3+
(not sure if ninpo's kernel does)

Should support it, but use EXT2 to save the life of your SD card
Your dalvik cache is filling up your on board memory.

[Q] A Noob Question, Please Help

I've been hearing a lot about partitioning sd cards and I know it's done in recovery mode.
So my question is - What's the difference between ext2, ext3, ext4 and swap partition?
Please help out!!
ext2 - Linux file system (no journaling)
ext3 - basically ext2 with journaling
ext4 - next generation of ext3 with better journaling and performance
swap - if internal memory should run full, parts would be swapped to the swap space, so it is basically an enhancement of internal memory
Check each out in the wikipedia, its worth it!
EDIT: I'd personally always go for ext4 and 128 swap

Thanks man,
But still I have few more questions..
What do you mean by "journaling"? And why do we need ext, ext2, ext4 for our mobile?
And swap is for enhancing internal memory or RAM?

Journaling filesystem - quote from Wikipedia:
A journaling file system is a file system that keeps track of the changes that will be made in a journal (usually a circular log in a dedicated area of the file system) before committing them to the main file system. In the event of a system crash or power failure, such file systems are quicker to bring back online and less likely to become corrupted.

Sorry I can't elaborate on why Android uses ext4 - I only read that one reason is that it's capable of multithreading. I hope one of the experts can tell us both more
Swap - you're right, of course - is used for RAM.

[Q] ZTE Blade v880 256MB RAM ROM Dec 2012 ?

Hi, is there a better ROM than Elite 2.3.5 for the ZTE Blade v880 256MB RAM ? (That is all I seemed to dig up from earlier this year in January posts.)
I picked this up for g/f thinking I could flash it same as my San Francisco but never saw it only had 256MB RAM vs (tight as it is) 512MB in my SF.
I'm guessing that Konstakang ICS won't work in it due to size constraints. ?
I have 48 hours to dig up a better ROM for it as it is quite bad/slugish as it is with 2.2.2 stock ROM before my 1-week return warranty expires.
I'll be looking into external SD partition and cache to free up more space as I never knew about this smart trick.
Asian Blade Gen 2
Current partition size:
System 220 MB
Data 162 MB
Cache 37 MB
You could always try cm7

Thanks QuantumFoam !
Going by the fact it is a 256MB Asian blade, will I be able to install clockwork mod on it and install ICS with the trimmed down ROM/cache footprint ? Any known restrictions ? I don't want to brick it due to some obscure code glitch....!
Asian Blade Gen 2 (Stock Sucky 2.2 ROM)
Current partition size:
System 220 MB
Data 162 MB
Cache 37 MB
MY SF is Euro Blade Gen 2 (ICS Konstakang 10/12 ROM)
Current partition size:
System 138 MB
Data 315 MB
Cache 2 MB
On system and cache comparisons, I'd regain 117 MB...significant if an app my girlfriend needs cannot be moved to SD card.
I think the order is :-
Simple root
Use some kind of TPT tool to tweak system/data sizes (?)
Install Clockwork Mod
Dump my ROM (CM7/ ICS) and GAPPS on fat32 formatted SD
Then I have to look for a SD format tool and cache-to-SD-card util. ?
best not to tpt an asian 256mb blade. not unless you find one specifically designed for that particular model. a bad tpt can brick it. clockworkmod can partition & format your sd card, s2e can move your apps & data to an ext partition on your card, then there's no reason to tpt at all & it's better. tpt is only needed for old 'gen1' european blades & san franciscos which were sold with android 2.1. either root it using some root exploit app & use rom manager to install clockworkmod, or use fastboot to flash clockworkmod.

Brilliant wbaw.Thanks
I managed to root, clockwork it and install ICS stable since my last post from a guide elsewhere.
My remaining bug is the partition scheme/cache is still there from the old ROM and I wonder is there an app to do resizing vs a TPT more techie boot level method ?
Current partition size:
System 156MB on 220 MB old space
Data 54 MB on 162 MB old space
Cache 1.19 MB on 37 MB old space
Free space is now............32 MB when there is 100MB that could be reclaimed........aaaaaaaaaaaaah !
Any other must-have apps that will optimise such a tight 256MB internal MEMORY ?

So I have :-
disabled dithering,
set CPU to performance
and enabled 16-bit graphics
found the swiftbootloader to change system size + cache on a windows machine with .net framework
and just used CWM to create an ext partition of 1GB on SD & 256 MB swap................
When I look in Settings------> Apps----------->Running it still has 0-10MB of free ram........with no sign of the SD card overspill Swap.
Do you need to enable SD cache swap somewhere and is this the same as "compcache" ?
I'm 100% determined to crack this 256MB RAM Blade nonsense so ICS works on it smoothly.
Oh well I had to wipe ICS and install a step up from stock , a custom 2.3.7 from one of the ROM's made by a member here.
Just working and no more.
I did all the performace optimizers possible on ICS, made partition on SD ,used app2sd on and on but as it has only 256MB ,facebook, Viber and the OS would just grind it to a halt with the homescreen disappearing or apps just crashing.
I just could not work out how to format the internal SD for optimal sizes or know if the VRAM I set up in CWM was being utilised. I just find it hard at times to follow full-time coder instructions, too many abbreviations that us no coders don't get or steps that are differnent to my screen !!!
This custom 2.3.7 is nice anyway. Thanks. I should have read the small print on the spec sheet before buying. I thought 256MB Blades were well and truly gone.

Question regarding Lenovo A6000 partition table

I am wondering is it posible to make a script or a tool that woud repartition system and userdata partitions.I saw this on.my (really) old HTC Nexus One via Blackrose method.I am wondering since custom roms are much smaller in size than factory firmware is it possible to move 1.1 gb in system partition to userdata partition. It would be nice to hear from developers.
I attached a screenshot as an ilustration for what i am talking about. My phone is full and is really frustrating to see 1GB of free space going to waste
