Anybody else have this issue? (screen related) - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just received my Nexus 7 in the mail on Friday and noticed this weird vertical line of pixels when I went to unlock the device. At first I thought it might have been a small glitch so I continued using the device. Next, I opened the app drawer and noticed it again next to some of the icons.
I've already called Google and they've sent a replacement device. Hopefully I won't see it on the next one.

That is a bad screen my friend. Sorry. Pixels are stupid. You could try to run a deadpixel app to try to unstuck them but probably won't work with that problem. My guess is a hardware defect in the screen or cable.

I gave that a try too, but these aren't dead pixels. It seems that the pixels appear in different colors depending on what is currently displayed on the screen.

Stuck/dead pixel!

My brand new pad has a pixel that won't show green...running one of the apps that says it fixes that... If it doesn't work, i'm going to see if I can get a replacement.
Just a warning to everyone. Be on the lookout.

I've got a dead pixel as well. Near the top left. Doesn't really bother me that much, so I don't really care. Surely one teeny little pixel doesn't warrant you returning it ...?

I used to think that. But if its been like, 3 Weeks and there's already one dead pixel... What does that say for the possibilities?
Just called Asus - he tried to get me to do a wipe.
Are you kidding me? wipe all my data? Asus - get rid of the spiel, its junk. Get ppl who know whats up on the phones ugh

My first pad had a dead pixel. I found it the second day and returned it as soon as I could. It was kind of in the middle of the screen, and I could see it every time I viewed a white web page. Needless to say, it bothered the heck out of me and had to be returned.
i went through 4 tabs until i got one that was fine display wise. first one had a cluster of discolored pixels, like someone pressed their thumb hard on the screen and damaged the area. the other two each had a couple grains of what looked like sand under the glass. All of these were around the same area on the tab, mid-lower left area of the screen.
Mines mid high right...
I'm worried about an attempted unlocking... I tried to unlock my tab before they fixed the c4okt issues, and im wondering if it might've sent them a file about that... Also wondering if unlocking will void it for a screen issue.

Dead and stuck pixels are far from unique to Asus. There is a difference by the way, a stuck pixel is one that is, well stuck displaying one color, these can sometimes be fixed by programs like you are running and/or gently massaging the area with a pencil eraser or something similar, dead pixels don't display any color and are rarely able to be fixed.

There is one other thing you can try, VERY gently massage the dead pixel with a something like a pencil eraser, that will sometimes get it working.

That's fine and all... but there's a much thicker layer of glass over a capacitive screen than there is over a resistive touch screen... or just a LCD monitor.
Unless I'm missing something here, this advice does not apply anymore.

Don't feel too bad. I just made the mistake of looking at an all black screen on my Acer a510.
NINE stuck pixels!
One little cluster made a shape exactly like the big dipper. Very artistic, with pretty multicolored stuck-pixel stars.
Needless to say I wasn't thrilled. So much for quality control. Sounds like Asus at least isn't this bad.

nexus 7 screen flickering

So this only Happens when I'm on Google chrome and I've noticed that ocassionally that the screen flickers, its not crazy annoying but definitely distracting. Have any of you had this problem?
Hopefully any of you aren't epileptic.

I turned off automatic brightness and I think that solved it. I think it was flickering when it was changing brightness.
its still there with auto off.
And with the brightness up but it so slight u have to be ocd like I am about my stuff to see it. But its easy to tell its not hardware because games like sonic CD are beautiful.

With my settings set to Automatically lock (immediately after sleep) and power button instantly locks with a visible patter screen lock, my Nexus 7 on wake-up [pushing the power button immediately] either right after an invalid pattern code (where device then sleeps) or waiting a few seconds with no activity until the device sleeps (where the Nexus 7 fades to a black screen) will have a delay in bringing up the lock screen OR sort of flicker presenting some sort of black and white bar lines background at the bottom half of the screen for a split second before bringing up the lock screen. Is this normal or it is in fact a defect?
Thanks in advance!
Not sire about that I have seen it in 3rd patty apps on all devices before. But the flicker we are seeing is like it changing the brightness up and down.

As does mine. I think people think it goes away when not on auto, because the "low" setting is about 20-25% and auto will often bring it lower than that, making the flickering worse.
At medium brightness the problem is almost, almost, non-existant.
It's also not just in chrome as some say, just most noticable on chrome's white backgrounds. I've noticed it in any app with lighter, brighter colors. I just exchanged my Nexus 7, and the new one has the exact same problem. This leads me to think the software problem is the most correct answer.
I get it every once in a while. Full brightness set, no automatic. Ill wait for a fix, doesn't bug me too bad.

I suspect it to be a software problem because in game it looks great. Plus in a new device like this software problems go with the territory.

And mine as well I noticed my screen flickered when my batt was getting down to 10% and my brightness level was at about 1/3. But now its charged and I don't see it flickering yet. I don't know...with Chrome having a bug (lags when scrolling) and the flickering screen...I may be returning my unit? I really hate to because aside from my issues, it's an awesome device!
Don't take it back they well fix it with a update.

Nexus 7 Defects (Software or Hardware)

Well as many of you posted you had flawless Nexus I pulled the trigger but for my horror I got a Lemon.
First I thought I had only the screen lift but after two weeks It have started to develop Screen Flicker and the slightest screen bleed in the right corner... a black pixel line when I open a hard task or its charging something.... the screen not responding and the ghosting :banghead: to my other horror I can't return it cause my father bought it to me and I'm in Mexico so no return but I wanted to know what are Software related and what are hardware related

So the Screen Separation is Hardware as the Screen Bleed
But the flicker, the sudden line that I just see like one a day and the ghosting that goes away with a reboot are all hardware?! The HTC titan had the ghosting too and with an update it went away

Well actually the screen flicker can be fixed by running a script. Look for the thread that says screen washout out fix. It will disable the nvidia smart dimmer. And the screen lift can be fixed' Google it . And not sure what the this "ghosting" is.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Xparent White Tapatalk 2
Well first I don't know if when going from homescreen to homescreen and seeing the icons going from side to side it looks like it leaves a trace behind that disappears after a couple of milliseconds and I don't know if its just an animation or ghosting.....and second is after being in my social homescreen the white parts stay onscreen in the background until I reboot but that only happened once and never again

IIRC you used the clamp and heat method to try and reactivate the glue. Best of luck, but that approach has been temporary for most users.
And you telling him to Google it would almost certainly lead to him fiddling with the screws, which is even less effective than the clamping.
Here is the only fix known to work. It's a delicate procedure and I wouldn't recommend it unless your lift is severe, GalaxyDev.
Sorry for your troubles, but hopefully you can see past these flaws and enjoy the tablet as is. I'm sure this device is a rare sight in Mexico.
The only reason why I considered that is because my screen lift is so minor, its like a hair lifted so my guess is the adhesive needs rebonding.

I've never noticed my screen "flicker"; does it flash off and on again or what?
Yeah, please clarify what a flicker is... if it only happened a couple times then it probably is related to the apps or maybe a couple things going on at once.
If it is not a constant, consistent problem and had only happened a couple times then perhaps it isn't a problem at all.

My screen flickered for a good 5 minutes and even a reboot didn't fix it. I think it's hardware related because if it was software a reboot would have fixed it. Could have been a driver glitch too but I'm pretty sure a reboot would've fixed it. My flickered a lot though saw a bunch of vertical lines and discoloration. Idk if that's what you're talking about.

I use Google Music a lot and I've never seen that. I just tried to replicate it and other than the usual CRT off animation I didn't see anything that I would construe as a flicker or flash.
If you hold your device in front of you with the screen on and look beyond it (i.e. over it's shoulder per say) you can see flicker. Works best in a dark room.
No big deal, but it's there.
I think its a big deal ...you spend your money for a working product..these issues need to be addressed..I thought I could trust LG again but dont think I can anymore

Sounds like one of those magic eye pictures. If you squint at your screen while holding it at a 45-degree angle in a dark room with brightness turned all the way down and jog in place...

Mine started flickering like mad today for the first time. I rebooted, but that didn't fix it. I started up a benchmark app and the flickering stopped after the graphics benchmarks ran. I had to RMA my first Nexus 7 with screen issues too, so I'm hoping this is just a software issue
I don't have this issue at all.

[Q] Nexus 4 weird display issue

I got my Nexus 4 yesterday, and just today I've noticed that when in dark screen (locked, or simply the settings page) and outside of the house I see kind of weird black lines on the whole display screen, going form top to bottom making some 3 small square shapes after the others all over the display, can be obviously seen when display facing bright sky outside in almost any angel, but in room light barely can see them with certain angels.
will make a photo of it asap.
p.s. I've never seen a notification light yet on the middle bottom of my device.
Anyone same "problem" with display?

I can confirm that its the digitizer I too have found that with this phone it is very easy to see even with weak light I see it when I get the right angle. It looks like you described but the vertical lines look more like dots arranged neatly than lines on mine.

Just noticed the same thing on my device. Thought I was tripping out maaaaaaan

Its the digitizer, its normal. I think its because of the "zero gap" technology thing ; the display and the digitizer are right below the glass.
As for the notification light, download Lightflow from the Play Store. Works great.

For the notification LED, make sure you enable the " Pulse notification light" option in Settings->Display. Using Lightflow on top will give you lots of customisation options though.

I am now noticing the same issue in my nexus 4. If it is because of zero gap technology then why it is not there in iPhone 5 and other phones which use this technology?
I also notice that my brother who got the phone some time in November 2012 is not having this issue. I got the phone in Jan 2013...is it issue with only the new lots?
What google and LG are doing to address this issue?
