im running the stable cm7 release and my battery life is terrible. i followed the guide on the forums here on fixing your battery life, charging to 100% pull battery put back in instal battery fix etc and overnight (short 5 hour night btw) i lost over 25% of my battery life, doing nothing ! wifi off data was on but i only recieved one or two emails all night. is this normal for cm7?
i read about how people are getting 20+ hours battery life while using their phone, if i leave my charger at home and go to work my phone is DEAD halfway through and all i use it for is the occasional phone call mabye 5-10 texts throughout the day and an email or two... how can i fix this?
I read somewhere that if you flash another ROM with battery not fully charged, it messes up calibration and you have to calibrate again. I am still with stock Blur just because I read so many issues with so many people about batteries
I hope you can get it figured out.
anybody?
is anybody else having battery life issues with cm7? if not did you do something to fix it? i have no idea what to do, the phone pretty much has to be tethered to a charger or it gets drained ridiculously fast. If i hang out with a few friends and use my phone during it i literally have to stop using it after around an hour or so because the battery's about to die.
Is there a certain rom with exceptional battery life that i can try to see if mabye its a hardware related issue? i seem to remember having horrible battery life for the day? or so that i was running stock ATT gingerbread.
I use Aura 1.2.2.2 (debloat) and get average battery life. Comparable to what I got before I installed third party ROM. If you want to try that one and see if its just CM then give it a go.
I had a battery problem after flashing to CM with a previous phone (OG Droid) but it was because I flashed while I had the phone plugged into the charger. It took a while to get it back to normal.
I doubt its CM. I dont know if its something draining your battery in the background or if its a result of weird calibration due to the flash.
my battery life has never been hte greatest but recently i got it working really well
I use the latest weekly build of CM7 and here is what i did
upon fresh install:
wipe battery stats
THEN:
kill battery
charge as far as it will go
clear battery stats (use battery calibration app)
take out battery
wait to reboot(missing battery)
put it back in
let it charge for 2hrs
reboot and unplug
kill the battery
charge to 100% while off (no interuptions)
Enjoy!
i have found that the more cycles my battery goes through 100-0-100
the better it gets
these steps almost tripled my battery life (along with Weekly 3)
there is a bug some people report with CM7 about the suspend process. (i have it, you can search "suspend" in the CM7 thread and see others are as well) load up the app betterbatterystats (there is a thread on xda that has the apk) and see if you have that bug.
I'm on nightly 20 having good battery life

I'm a victim of the suspend process bug
had to flash something else, using ALIEN for now and battery is pretty good
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
i installed betterybatterystats as you guys recommended and im not entirely sure how to read it but the suspend process shows at the top of the list so i assume thats the process which is eating up my battery? Is there a fix for this? i do like cm7 but if its the rom which is causing my battery life issues ill have to wave goodbye. Does this suspend process but happen on the weekly / nightly builds as well?
I was having horrible battery life as well. I froze some apps that I downloaded from the market and that helped a little bit but what gave me 20+ hours of battery life is the new UK orange Radio that has recently been released. I wanted to flash it since I am using an Orange UK phone and see if it improves my wifi connection, etc....
Reddy flashing a radio appropriate to your device and see if it helps.

I had it on stable, and am on weekly 3 right now. I'm probably going to switch back to a blur rom soon..

My battery blows with CM7. My phone has the suspend bug and nothing fixes it. I tried a fastboot wipe and clean install of the latest stable as well as nightly #20. I've tried several kernels, I'm currently running a screen off profile of 216-216 on the 1.0ghz kernel and I'm undervolted to the max just to make it thru the day.
I'm getting the nexus prime or the iPhone 5 next... which ever is released first.

I got the kindle fire about a week ago. Since that time I have received okay battery life. I don't love or hate it. I decided to check to see if something odd in the background was running. I ran a battery saver program, probably juicedefender, and found that the GPS was on. Wait, what!? There is no GPS in the Fire. So I installed GoLauncher, and used the native power manager to turn it off. These are just preliminary results, but battery life seems to have increased a lot. It could also just be a placebo, but I guess that having the GPS on could be something amazon forgot to remove in the code, and created an endless processing loop. Just a guess, I would love to hear some other thoughts on this.
the only way to tell is the drain the battery doing the exact same thing between changes. i've been tinkering around with my kindle as well because there has to be *something* which explains how the nook tablet can get an extra 2-3 hours on the same capacity battery...
Something... But the Nook actually has 4000 mah battery, while the Fire has a 4400 mah battery, so it has a smaller battery, and better battery life. I would then guess, it is software related, because hardware is virtually identical.
What are you guys considering a bad battery, because I couldn't be more satisfied with mine.. Two days of HEAVY use with the display on for a total of 6 hrs -- is that not what you're all getting? And if so, how is that not good for a dual core processor running on a 7" IPS display?
How did you disable the GPS?

Not terribly impressed with the battery life on the KF compared to the Nook Color (which seemed to last FOREVER)

I was using ADW EX launcher and just did a long tap on screen, added widget, power control.
And it added the little toggle bar that most droid phones have with notification bar.
Wifi was on, blue tooth area was blank, then gps, sound, and autorotate.
I confirmed gps was lit up. tapped it, to disable then removed the widget.
I did the exact same thing. Pretty simple.
surprise surprise....
i did a battery test of the nook tablet vs the kindle fire today (i own both and intend to return one). i had a game running as my test (jelly defense), wifi off, screen brightness max.
nook tablet died at 4 hours. kindle fire lasted an extra hour.
so either all the build.prop stuff i did made a difference, or my nook tablet's battery is defective and i need recalibrate it....

Just noting that there seems to be issues with battery life that factory resets seem to fix (oddly), so it might be worth resetting either/both devices if you see drastically lower than expected battery lives.

I recently flashed CM9 on my kindle fire and for some reason, when I put it to charge overnight, it only got to 50% from 3% in 4 hours. Is the kindle just that slow at recharging or is it something else?
What rom are you using?

hellfire
Um, I really can't say. The Fire charges that slowly but not that slow. It could be your charger (doubtful). You might have a background process causing trouble.
I would say kill all non essential running processes, turn wifi off and try again. If that doesn't work, switch roms. If THAT doesn't work it's probably your charger.
Where are you located? US? Europe?

Yeah its the same micro usb cable I use for my phone so I dont believe it is that. I turned off wifi so I'll see if that was part of the problem. Something i noticed was when i went to settings and under battery it said "discharging" even thought i had it plugged into my laptop.
Well that's your problem...USB doesn't have enough power to charge the Fire. You have to use the Kindle Fire wall charger.

Yup I got my wall charger and that took care of it. I wouldn't have thought that a standard USB wouldn't be enough to charge it in the normal time frame.

The stock wall charger for the Kindle Fire puts out 1.8A, even a regular phone charger will take a long time since they usually put out around .8A.

In running the same rom and the battery life is awesome, as long add you keep your CPU governor to regular default 600-1200mhz. Stop and kill running background services, and turn off wifi when not in use. You have to let your battery cycle a few times so the rom will get accustomed to your battery

Hi, and what do you think about cm9 reloaded? Im having problems when I'm going to turn off.. Or turn on..
CM 9 reloaded went into SOD too much for me, it drove me crazy. The rom itself its nice, but is too buggy for me. Energy is really great. Battery life, smooth UI, and the wifi problems that other CM9 ROMS have is kept to a minimal

Since I got my kindle fire last Christmas I've only used a rooted stock roms (whatever was latest). There would be weeks where I wouldn't touch my kindle then one day I would turn it on and still have battery left. It seemed the battery would never die, as if the stock kindle rom would go into some kind of super deep sleep.
Since going to JB I cannot reproduce this. Even if I don't touch the kindle it will run out of power in just a couple days. I went through and turned off all background sync and have it shut off wifi during sleep. Anyone have any tips to get the battery to last when the screen is off?
i have the same issue. the battery runs out so quickly on JB
my wifes battery life went to garbage when i flashed the JB rom on her kindle. She didnt really like the other ones i put on from the ics. but she likes the eye candy jb rom just that the battery life sucks
Ok, sounds like I am not the only one. I love everything about the JB roms except the battery life. I am sure we'll get there one day...
how about the ics roms??
which is the best ics rom??
None of the roms beyond stock give superior battery life. Only stock gives you several days of life. I charge my kindle everyday with daily use. If I want to conserve battery, I shut it off.

The CM7 ROMs have better battery life than the Stock KF ROM.
Anyone know why this is? Did Amazon write some super special sleep code that nobody else can figure out or port to ICS or JB? Or is it just that there isn't enough interest in the feature among xda devs?
I definitely miss this in my KF running JB. It was awesome to be able to use the stock system lightly for weeks between charges. One less device's power needs to be slave to.
Of course, the additional functionality in these custom roms is worth it!

No. Gingerbread ROMs just have better battery life. Look at the CM7 ROMs. Really good battery.

This is what I was wondering too. One thing I noticed with stock is that once I brought the Kindle out of sleep it would take a bit for wifi to come back. I wonder if Amazon wrote something to just shut everything off when the device sleeps. I tried replicating this with JB but couldn't get the same results.
I probably don't have enough data to say for sure, but it seems like there's more to it than just Gingerbread vs ICS/JB. My old phone was running CM7. Would it have lasted for weeks in sleep mode without a charge? Maybe it would have in airplane mode? I never tried it so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. =)
Still, it seems like the stock KF is doing something special to deep sleep. I always was shocked how quickly I could connect to my wi-fi after instantly waking that thing up after a week without touching it and the charge level was still high. It made the KF have battery life comparable to my regular Kindle eReader, which is really saying something since I almost never turn on the wi-fi on my eInk Kindle.
To some extent this issue is less important now because I'm using the heck out of my JB Kindle Fire so I'm burning up battery from regular activity anyway. It is no longer a dust collector. I'm just curious if somebody knows the technical reason that these newer Android versions and/or non-Amazon ROMs are unable to achieve "deep sleep". Is it a lost cause and deep sleep is a thing of the past or do we simply need to wait for a developer who builds that custom JB ROM designed for arctic explorers and wilderness survivalists?

Your kindle fire should still be using deep sleep. The difference is that ics and jb are way more advanced operating systems. Therefore, there is more overhead power usage which equates to less battery life.

I don't think that is the issue.
On my HTC Sensation phone I get better battery life with ICS than I did with stock gingerbread.
I just think the deep sleep in the ics/jb kernel is not as optimized as the one in stock and it has power leaks.
Being more advanced operating systems they could consume more during active use (although I doubt it since ICS/JB use more hardware decoding/acceleration than Gingerbread and that means better battery life) of the device but deep sleep should be the same.
and yet, the question remains: why is it happening, and what to do about it?
I use SetCPU for such purpose in the meantime, with the profile to minimum CPU while with screen off
I think it's more of a kernel issue. The cm7 roms are fantastic for battery but lack all the latest goodies (and speed) built into ICS and JB.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
My 2 cents:
Part of it is the kernel. Having been around longer, it's more mature in Gingerbread (CM7 and stock), having been refined/efficient over time.
The other part is features. There's simply more stuff in CM9 (ICS) and CM10 (JB). More stuff = more stuff tasking the system = higher battery drain. This is especially true for stock which is rather stripped-down compared to the more fully-featured custom ROMS.
I was able to squeeze a little more battery life out of JB by using Titanium Backup to "freeze" unnecessary apps such as anything referring to Bluetooth or voice control.

I have had CM10 on my Nook HD for a couple of days now and I am disappointed by the battery life so far. To be honest, it is more a question of being impressed with the battery life on stock ROM than the other way around. Because coming from Nook Color, I was quite impressed by the battery life on Nook HD. In standby, it would go for a week without charging. With moderate usage, it would easily do a couple of days or 3 days even. But with CM10, standby sucks up battery juice like crazy. Overnight I lost about 40% charge. So I am seeing Nook Color battery life on my Nook HD.
This would probably keep me from using it as my daily driver. Since CM10 is so much more useful, I would probably boot to it when I need to do browsing and checking RSS feeds etc. But I think I would have to go back to stock for reading.
Is it the same experience with battery life for others? Thanks.
On stock it shut wifi off when it sleeps, on CM10 you have to go to wifi settings and edit the settings to do the same because it's set to not shut off wifi when sleeping.

I have generally found this true on all my nook devices, Color, Tablet, HD, and HD+. CM10 can just not match stock on battery life.
But I like CM10 so just charge every day.

That might just be the trick, as I shut off wifi this morning in CM10 at 63% charge and the battery is still holding up at 60% after some four hours.
More testing will reveal if it becomes usable with wifi shutoff.
But Nook Color using CM7.2 had insane battery life. Even better than stock -- way better. I don't know how the developers did it but they put BN developers to shame by getting that good battery life out of that device.
There was a problem with deep sleep on the 12/28 CM10 release. Temporarily reverted to the earlier kernel (B&N binary) which helps some apparently.
i've used 12/19 only and found battery life to be pretty bad when in sleep mode. even with wifi off it wasn't nearly as good on standby as stock/root is. but you do get lots of extra features so you gotta pick which is more important. better sleep or a more powerful tablet.
I am on the 12/29 Linaro build and after posting the original question, I took r1c47's advice and shutoff wifi when not in use. I've had good results since then. I did some reading in Kindle app but my battery was still at 40% from that original charge when I posted the first message here. I just put it up for charging again but I might stick with this build for a long time. I just shut off the wifi when I am reading which is most of the time.
The only (minor) problem is the lack of rotation even after checking the box in settings. And I have not tried playing music or videos so far. But otherwise this build is good for me.

The rotation issue is well known. Just hold the device vertical when you want to rotate and it will. And there are two rotation check boxes in settings. One in display and one in accessibility.

Go to settings, wifi, menu, advanced and choose wifi to never be on with screen off.
I'm quite happy seeing over 2 days (sometimes little over 3) on CM10 12/31 build, shutting down wifi after 5 min inactivity and when off.
However I find it a pita to switch off and on wifi all the time when I resume operation on the device. Is it a known issue, or am I the only one facing this?
Thanks
