ROM with best battery life?

It all started back in May. I purchased my first "smart" phone, and caught a qbking77 video on how to root. Now I'm addicted to crack, and love our awesome devs. They have done so much for me, if they had car trouble, id be the first to lend my hand. On to my question now. I realize our hardware doesn't respond the same to various roms, but why is it, even after multiple epic 4g's, does MIUI always have the best battery life? I know its not fully complete, but it just rapes the competition. Any knowledge here?

probably because as you said, its not completely running everything the hardware can so it uses less battery

From my understanding though, mms and 4g still aren't working, which I never use anyway, and these are huge bettery drainers for a lot of ROMs, so what gives? 4g is sprints joke laughing down on us. MIUI is an asian based software right? Is it the 2.3.7 tweaks that make it better?

I also expected better battery life with GB, but it did not happen. Downloaded betterbatterystats and identified a partial wakelock, froze that app... testing it out again.

i guess each device is different. before i went to gb, i used to take my phone to the gym with me as for music. i usually streamed pandora, sirius, or googlemusic, sometimes listening from my phones hd. I would go to the gym about 1.5-2 hrs and leave with about using 25-35% of battery avg. With GB, i used about~20%... but this is only 2 days so far..

Well, I've been flashing and testing a hell of a lot of Rom and kernels lately, and the best battery life seems to be with SenseiSimple's SleeperROM. I use the latest version of earthbound [iap]'s Samurai kernel. That kernel allows for a hell of a lot of flexibility in terms of frequency and voltage, so you can fiddle around a bit to find a combo that works for you best. The SleeperROM already uses the Samurai kernel by default, but it is presently still compatible with the latest BETA version.

com.android.phone batery drain

I have read little about this issue . Instead of renaming or deleting files can we make auto booting script to kill this process so it will no longer looking for a mobile data ?
I have no android skills so am asking somebody who have it. Maybe there is other safe way to ged ride of that battery eating cell standby process

this is a rather old issue, solved long time ago. You can just add the following lines in your build.prop file, located in the system folder:
ro.carrier=wifi-only
Thor's ROM features this tweak by default so you don't have to do anything - no cell standby.

Well thor rom have this line indeed. And when U check settings about tablet battery indeed isnot showing .
When U install any other app to show battery stats actually shows cell standby and phone idle. I using norton utilities but few other ones shows.
I left for a night tablet screen off, gps off , wi fi on, airplanemode on and after 6h i have 15 % drop down. 8 H on my iconia possible when everithing is off.

Writing this post 3% down... and tablet was bought on black friday is brand new is that normal ?

If your tablet is new did you fully charge and then discharge the battery to about where it auto shuts off.

There are a couple of things to mention. If you are running an over clocked processor, this will of course use more battery power. Especially with thors roms, because the last time I looked, depending on version, it installed over clocked to 1.5ghz. If you don't need that much, try setting it to 1.2 for example.
Apps that are always running and synching. Things like weather apps, mail, fb, etc. And... those lovely battery apps (a waste of time). And this also includes Norton, as it runs as a process. All of these use battery power.
And as briandigital said, let the battery get a few full changes. Usually takes them about a week to settle down.

I agree with U. Those apps using battery. For example weather widget 0.5 % or norton 0.5 % but still shows 60 + % cell standby or 2% phone idle. wifi over night 30 % with checking mail every 15 min.
Over Clocking got nothing to do with this (1000 on screen on 400 on off) system proces phone is running all the time draining battery.
I have thor 14.2 mod and to get 100 % shure I flash again kernel and dubble chec for wifi-only line.
Wipe battery stats and 10 min after cell stanby 30 % after 30 back to 63 %
Or 5 diffrent apps from market are wrong showing cell standby and system process phone working and draining battery or this all solutins are not really working. If it not showing on /settings /battery is not mean process is not working
Anybody know how to kill that process and prevent to run ?

Are you running an A500? or an A501?
3g USB Dongle?
Did you run any "update patches" concerning 3g Dongle support?
Reason I ask, is that I did some of the testing for the kernel version you are using. (3.9r3). And frankly, I haven't heard a lot of 500 users complain about "cell standby" with the 14Rom. In fact the combo should be giving you extremely good battery life.
You said it only shows cell standby when using some other different application? I might suggest the app is not telling the truth.
Typically, losing 10% overnight with wifi on, is pretty normal. During testing, I lost 8% on internal 3g, and about 10 or 11 with Wifi. FB and Mail not's set to 1hr intervals. WX at 3hrs.

Ok from begin
1. A500 wifi only 16 Gb ver, staples for 299
2. No any addons clear tablet nothing plugin, kernel and rom from thor14v2
3. No any updadtes
4. Am not complaining about battery life, am complaining about stupid process what is draning my battery.
5. A can post 5 screenshoots of different apps whitch showing cell standby process draining battery. Whatever i will download from market kit is showing same so i believe they're not wrong.
6. Never post that to thor forum. Here is way more chances to get respond

You should re-think about posting on Thor's site. He's typically pretty responsive. Unless it's a stupid question, or somebody's not nice.
The cell standby issue is an old one. It's because the 500 and 501 share the same hardware with the exception of internal 3g for the 501. And because of that, the share mostly the same OS code.
Thors rom, was based on the asus transformer. I don't run it, as it doesnt fully support internal 3g.
It's possible, that the process is still running, only hidden from view based on the images you supplied with the modified build.prop set to wifi-only.
In this case, I would ask you again, to post the issue on Thors FORUM under the Rom ver 14 topic. It may take him a day to answer, as he's working on ICS right now.
In the meantime, here at xda in the a500 forum, there are several "older" topics covering cell standby on the a500. One of the fixes at the time, was to "freeze" the telephoney.apk (get some error messages) then reboot.
Just do a search for cell standby, and you'll find them. I found them earlier today through Google (but can't remember where), so you should be able to do the same.

Well I did some research before I bother U and other solutions is to rename / remove phone.apk witch may solid brick my acer. Am wonder if I rename it and hard reset can I be able go to recovery ? And restore prev backup or this is gonna be a perm brick

Well Pavil, those posts are a little old.
And, sometimes people call things a "brick" when they really don't know what a brick is
BEFORE I would rename any apps, I would try this, Install Titanium backup. Once installed, and root granted of course, Select the telephony apk, then do a "freeze" on it. Reboot and check things. You may want to freeze those other couple apk's if it doesn't fix it. You will probably get some error messages when you first freeze it, but ignore it, and reboot.
But BEFORE you go freezing things, do a recovery backup first This way, you can get back to where you were before freezing.
Then see how things go.
EDIT. Stop using battery apps designed for phones. They may run on Honeycomb, but if they were designed for devices that have a functioning radio, they know no better than to display an erronous stat.
But honestly, battery stats in android are somewhat misinterpreted.
Example. If your device used 10% power. And the stat says Display used 80%, It means that of that 10%, the display was responsible for 80% of it. Not 80% total battery power.
In the meantime, I see you didn't post on thors site? Ok, I'm on good terms with him, so I'll pose the question to him.

It appears from your screen shots that you don't have your wifi set to disconnect when your screen goes off. I could be mistaken, but if it's not, changing that will help battery life immensely

Yeah, no sense in messing things up. A pity I don't have an a500 or I'd test it myself.
You could try flashing one of the other roms, and see if the result is the same. For example Taboonay. I ran it for quite awhile with Thors 3.9r3 kernel. Or you can use the kernel it comes with.
Answer from Thor is that he's not aware of the cell.standby issue as nobody else has mentioned it, and all his stuff now is set up for ICS, so he doesn't have the time to check it out.
So, maybe you just have to live with it. Seems your battery life is ok, so I would just ignore it for now.

Did you wipe your battery stats from CWM before flashing?... And by the way thor's ROM has CPU clock set to 1.2 GHz by default.

Yeah, he had to back off the original cpu install recently due to a couple users couldn't flash at that speed (1.5). Not all CPU's are made equal.
(the real issue here, is the old "cell standby" issue that a500's had in the past)

I suspect (considering nobody else using Thors roms complain about cell standby), that the phone battery apps have this hard coded, and expect it to be there, so it displays a random percentage. Probably because it see's the phone apk's in the OS and naturally assumes it needs to display something.

Personally Pavil, I do not use one. Except what comes in the rom. There's really no need to get anything else. And frankly, I don't hear a lot about folks running 3rd party battery apps on their tablets. So I'm not going to be much help on suggesting one. I just know most of the task and battery apps, were designed for phones on android 2.3.
I gave up on things like battery apps, task killers, task monitors and the likes a long time ago. I learned to manage things on my own like most others do. There's no reason, once you learn a little about how android works, to add apps that take even more resources.
Bottom line, you can have every app in the world to monitor things, but what really matters, is what the "actual" battery life is.
For example, I can go 12hrs with normal usage, and still have 60%. This includes internet, sms, mail a few times, maybe some video for an hour. It depends.
Or, I can play angry birds 7 hrs straight before recharge. Not bad! And I run my processor at 1500ghz.
You can instal a cpu app, like cpumaster, and set profiles based on how much battery you have left. I typicaly set mine to start at 1500ghz, then do 2 extras to down the speed based on battery. When I use them, I can run for almost 3 days with normal usage. I do this when I know I will be camping with no electricity.
I have 4 of these profiles on my phone, and the longest I lasted, was almost 4 days before recharge.
Wish I could help you more.

I recently flashed CM9 on my kindle fire and for some reason, when I put it to charge overnight, it only got to 50% from 3% in 4 hours. Is the kindle just that slow at recharging or is it something else?

What rom are you using?

Um, I really can't say. The Fire charges that slowly but not that slow. It could be your charger (doubtful). You might have a background process causing trouble.
I would say kill all non essential running processes, turn wifi off and try again. If that doesn't work, switch roms. If THAT doesn't work it's probably your charger.
Where are you located? US? Europe?

Yeah its the same micro usb cable I use for my phone so I dont believe it is that. I turned off wifi so I'll see if that was part of the problem. Something i noticed was when i went to settings and under battery it said "discharging" even thought i had it plugged into my laptop.

Well that's your problem...USB doesn't have enough power to charge the Fire. You have to use the Kindle Fire wall charger.

hello, i have the Energy.3.19.2012.Kindle.Fire.CM9.ICS on my KF and i have a lot of problems with my battery.. slow charge.. and when is at 100%.. in a few minutes.. the battery % is on 85.. and going down...
did someone have some problem with this same ROM..
what about cm9_reloaded?

Yup I got my wall charger and that took care of it. I wouldn't have thought that a standard USB wouldn't be enough to charge it in the normal time frame.

The stock wall charger for the Kindle Fire puts out 1.8A, even a regular phone charger will take a long time since they usually put out around .8A.

In running the same rom and the battery life is awesome, as long add you keep your CPU governor to regular default 600-1200mhz. Stop and kill running background services, and turn off wifi when not in use. You have to let your battery cycle a few times so the rom will get accustomed to your battery

Hi, and what do you think about cm9 reloaded? Im having problems when I'm going to turn off.. Or turn on..

CM 9 reloaded went into SOD too much for me, it drove me crazy. The rom itself its nice, but is too buggy for me. Energy is really great. Battery life, smooth UI, and the wifi problems that other CM9 ROMS have is kept to a minimal

Best battery life JB rom

It's most likely not a ROM issue. I tried Adams and CM10 and had similar battery life. Make sure you turn off google now (just the cards that need to know your location constantly). It might also be that your update didn't go that well, so you might try a factory reset. It could also be a misbehaving app, so when you do a factory reset, maybe test the ROM before restoring/reinstalling your apps. Also, the more information you give us the better we can help. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I installed the stock factory image 4.0.4 and then waited for the official OTA. I updated and all works well, but I get around 15 hrs on a full charge with some Whatsapp and Facebook use. When I use it more intense with more screentime the battery drains the most. I think a factory reset wont give me more battery life then this, but I know my drain was not so big while I was on ICS.

By the way, which one is the most stable; CW10 (That chocolate river one??) or Jellybelly?

Sounds weird. But also keep in mind that there are still some apps that don't cope very well with JB, and Facebook has never been Androids best friend . But it doesn't make sense that it's only during screen on, most people report issues related to google now and apps doing **** in the background. If you want to switch ROM anyways, I suggest you use Adams Jellybelly, it's mostly stock (less features means less that can go wrong) and it includes thalamus kernel, which is IMHO the best JB kernel at the moment. I do not recommend any CM10 based ROMs if you're after stability. I assume you checked your battery stats and didn't find anything?
Edit: Chocolate river was abandoned when official OTA came afaik, so definitely Jellybelly . Make sure you do a full wipe though, if something's wrong dirty flashing isn't worth it.

Sounds good to me. Downloading Jellybelly now. I checked my battery stats and didn't find anywhing weird. I dont have much apps installed so there is not much that could give issues. When I leave my screen off (at night or while working) the battery life is not that bad. It's weird, but JB is still very fresh and new, so I'll just try some other roms =)

Agreed jelly belly provides the best performance, stability, and battery life

I am currently on JellyBelly and the battery life is definitely not better than stock for me. Battery drains like crazy when idling.
BUT, I do have Google Now activated. So really make sure to deactivate if you do not need it.

IMO all ROMs should give similar battery life.

Even with Google now turned on the battery should last some time. Do You get the same time as with ICS when it's deactivated? If not, something's borked .

Even if the battery life isnthe same with Jellybelly, the performance is great!

I'm just wondering because the biggest complaint with 10, 10.1 and now 10.2 seems to have been battery life. In fact that tends to be the case for almost all of the custom ROMs with few exceptions. (uXylon has great battery life for a non-stock custom ROM, for instance).
So what likelihood is there to expect very much improved battery life on CM 10.2? Any thoughts?
BTW - this isn't a gripe on the devs' work, I really want to know what is reasonable to expect.

battery life is what you make of it - power users are going to need to a recharge during the day while casual users should be able to get through the day just fine.
in my experience, for the most part, battery life has been fairly consistent. I can go a full day (6am-11pm) on a single charge so long as I keep my on-screen time under 3 hours. this is very acceptable to me. there is no need for me to go 24 hours given that I sleep for at least 7 of them (thus, I'll charge it then)

Yeah, that's how I have seen it as well. It's all relative to how you use your phone and what your expectations are. But you know we constantly see post from guys who aren't content with battery life no matter what it is. That's why I was looking for some feedback on what is usual, customary and reasonable.

I find the battery life to be quite good. Gets me through the day and then some.
That's coming from an Xperia Play, and I've never used stock for more than a few hours.

I think this is a great question to ask. While some are content with battery life, others are not. For example, there is no way I could continue to use Liquid rom and expect any sort of reasonable battery life with how I use my phone. As much as I loved the rom itself, it simply wouldn't last long enough between charges. With AOKP I normally charge my phone in the evening (then unplug it.. Never leaving it charged overnight), and once in the afternoon and I'm good. I'm on it constantly and one charge a day with my normal usage never did it for me.. Even on stock. For some reason some roms just seem to handle battery life far better than others no matter what I am doing on my end to conserve battery power (Screen brightness, Greenify, etc). Over the weekend I was able to get 19 hours out of it with far less usage than normally since we were out enjoying the day at a winery. To me, the battery life I get with AOKP seems better or equal to what it was before unlocking the bootloader.

as a power user im on my phone CONSTANTLY playing games and tethering and whatnot. i have to say i have found CM 10.1 roms to be quite generous on battery so far. i throw my CPU up to 1500 min/max when i plan to play COD: BOZ or Dead Trigger and ill get quite a few hours out of it off the charger before i get warned about it dying.

AOKP and Slim based ROMs have had pretty good battery life for me. When I was running CM10, it was nearly identical to stock battery life, but CM10 is 4.1.2 based. If an OEM 4.2.2 based ROM is released, they'll be able to sync it against 4.2.2 AOSP and make things work well (atleast, that's how I picture it in my head). With that being said, I am running Illusion, with Arrghh's kernel and XBreeder, and I'm sitting at about 12% battery, 36 hrs of up time, and 2.5hrs of screen on time. This is about as good as what I would see when I was running tweaked stock.
Battery life is also dependent on how long you've had your current OS running (in my experience, anyway). A lot of us around here are crackflashers and we never let a ROM settle in. I was getting average battery use on Ilusion, but it's gotten better in the last few days.

I got a new battery off amazon and been getting great battery life again. I think i borked my old one.
AOKP almost always lasts me through the day unless I go over 3 hours of screen time
