Best option for Divx movie playback - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have just got my Nexus 7 and tried copying an AVI file encoded in DivX into the movies folder, the standard movies app did not want to play it.
I have a program that can convert it to mp4 but I do not know what would be the best setting to use.
So my question is can the Nexus 7 play Divx movies natively, if so how? If not is it better to download an app (suggestions please) or is it better to convert (again suggestions as to formats to use).
Cheers
Baz.

"Bsplayer" in the play store will play dvix files.

I use BSPlayer for all my video files and after trying out half a dozen other players on the market it has been the best for me.

I ended up buying both MX Player and BS player.
I've got to say they each have their plus points.
MX player produced much louder audio and automatically plays the next movie in the folder, however it does not yet support Tegra 3 so decoding was done in software.
BS player does support Hardware.
As I bought the device to play movies whilst travelling the extra volume is a bit of big deal, however hardware support is supposed to offer longer battery life.

That's actually not true. Mine decodes in hardware mode just fine.

How did you get MX player to do that? Mine is greyed out

I just de-selected the software encoder.

Already did that, however it would appear that some movies do work in hardware mode whilst others still switch back to software mode even though BSplayer still plays as hardware

VLC Media PLayer works for me. I used to to play full length DVD rips in DivX. It plays them directly off a USB flashdrive too .(rooted/Stickdrive)

Simply deselect software and you are on your way. I've never had anything not play in hardware mode but perhaps its the type of files you are using? Not sure.

convert video for evo

For the people that have been converting dvd's and bluray for the evo:
What programs and settings are you using to get the best results?
I've been looking at various tutorials and many that reply say the output comes out pixilated or choppy. So what has worked the best for you.
Does the encoding process differ for bluray?
dvd fab will go from blueray or dvd. there is also handbrake thats is free and will do dvds or files
What settings are you using to get smooth playback?
i don't use physical DVD/BluRay discs but this is what i use to get all my vids evo-compatible:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=724944
and here's a sample output from a 1080p BluRay source. i'd say the quality is (more than) good enough
Computer
Windows 7 x64
Core 2 Duo e6600 @ 2.4GHz
nForce 680i w/ DDR2 @ 400MHz
Video source
File: MKV, 2hr37min, 2012 BluRay
Video: H264 High/L4.1 @ 1920x800 @ 12.1Mbps / 23.976fps
Audio: DTS 6ch @ 1.5Mbps
Encoding (w/ NeroAacEnc)
3:26 PM - PHP: script started (+0m)
3:33 PM - FFMPEG: wav audio extracted (+7m)
3:40 PM - NeroAacEnc: aac audio encoded (+7m)
6:38 PM - x264: h264 video encoded (+178m)
Results
Audio encoding - 205MB @ 182Kbps / 11x realtime
Video encoding - 890MB @ 788Kbps / 0.9x realtime
Total encoding - 1.1GB @ 973Kbps / 1.2x realtime

Thanks frifox. the pics do look good for converting vids.
I just use Rock Player. It plays all different formats natively without conversion.

MKV, nope. 720p, rarely. Subs, nope... basically you're shyt out of luck if u watch anime (i do, hehe)
Your best bet is reencoding or just getting lower quality vids with hardsubbed subs n using RockPlayer
Ill just stick with my computer then

What is this "Jumper Test" that installs with it?
Should this work with the Nexus S on 2.3.1?
EDIT: Works fine so far on Nexus S CM7. Thanks.
This is what the music app should have been in 2.1, comparable to the gallery. Nice work here google, this looks great.
Decent looking. Probably in the wrong forum though...

Is this a newer version of the previous music.apk leak?
Good but a bit laggy in scrolling compared to other google apps....
Works also fine on MicroMod v.20.

They do not have the be anywhere specific. Android automatically finds any media files as long as there is not a ".nomedia" file in a folder where media is stored.
Also, this is old news and is in the wrong section.

NEUTRON - Greatest audio/music player just released

Just released - Neutron - audio/music player. Absolutely the best sounding best looking player on the market. There are no insturctions yet but an FAQ on the developers site. Once you figure out the loading procedure you will love it.
Go to the thrid screen and select PLAYLIST. It does NOT read your external SD card yet as far as I can tell, but I am sure it will as dev fine tune the app. 5 day trial version available. I love this app!!!!

I use Songbird usually, but the new "default" Google Music for the Music Beta lately. Unfortunately, it doesn't have lock screen controls. Major downside.
I'll have to try it out I've been using songbird too lately
PowerAmp rulez

I've been using Ubermusic (the WP7 clone by the developer of LauncherPro), it's a little early in development but it's awesome

This program looks like it's a power house I'm sure, but the UI looks like a prolapsed bung hole. Missing a lot of key features that other music apps like PowerAMP feature.
Thanks for sharing. I'm sure the audiophiles will love this, but I'll pass.
poweramp is like beast music player, reminds me of SRS stuff.
Power Amp !
Yikes! That UI is definitely awful. Looks like it was developed in 1996. I think I'll keep using Google Music Beta or Winamp.

What I did for a lockscreen widget is use Widgetlocker. Then you can just put the standard music widget on your lockscreen.

Streaming H.264 Videos Help!!

Hello all,
I am a new owner of a Nexus 7 (16G-All stock) and so far so good...except for the blueprint lsat prep website:
Note: I'm sorry, I'm new and cannot post links yet. If you try to go on the blueprint lsat prep website, the homepage has a link to sample videos of the course.
The company claims that it is possible to watch on Android. I have tried to watch using Chrome without any success. Tried it on Iphone, and the video played.
Since I am quite happy with the Nexus 7, I'd hate to have to return it and exchange it for an Ipad.
Please, please help!
Have you tried a third party media player such as mxplayer, or dice player? There are a few on the play store.

[Q] RE: NHL and NFL

Hey, have any of you guys side loaded NFL game pass or NHL game center on their Nexus Player, and how to they perform? Just looking ahead to this fall. Hopefully they develop an actual Android TV app for both soon. Exploring my options until then
Thanks

I didn't have any luck with Gamecentre myself. If they get a native NHL and WWE app, I can ditch my AppleTV fully.

I sideloaded Game Pass from the 2014 season but it didnt work too well. The interface is locked to portrait and you need a mouse to navigate. Once you start a game stream though it plays fine although quality wasnt great. It's probably limited due to the fact that its meant to run on a phone w/ limited bandwidth. I had more success using the GP add on for Kodi. Games stream in HD quality and sound.
