I know. What you want to tell me is to search the forum. What you want to tell me is to go on somewhere and stop being a noob. I know, because I have felt the same before. But please, stop for a second and read this.
I have a T-Mobile G2 aka Desire Z. I have no idea what has been done to it because a friend gave it to me for the sole purpose of attempting to fix it. I accepted the phone as a challenge.
When turned on, all I get is the white screen with a green HTC logo. It boots into HBOOT when I hold the volume down key, and from HBOOT I am able to go to recovery. Here is exactly what it says when I boot to HBOOT:
VISION PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.82.0000
MICROP-0425
RADIO-26.03.02.26_M

HBOOT
<VOL UP> to previous item
<VOL DOWN> to next item
<POWER> to select item
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
FACTORY RESET
SIMLOCK
IMAGE SRC
When I try doing a factory reset from this screen, it'll go to the loading screen that has a green exclamation mark with arrows around it for a few seconds, then reboot; again going to the HTC logo.
When I go to recovery from the HBOOT screen, it goes straight to the screen with a red exclamation point. When it is at the red exclamation point screen, I can connect it to my computer and use adb, but it says that it is offline, even though it shows the phones serial number.
I tried flashing the stock ROM via fastboot, but it did not work. I will greatly appreciate any help i could get.
If you know of any threads on the same issue that I may have overlooked, please let me know.
Thanks :good:
i am very sleepy right now so i cant fully help, BUT, to shine some light for you, the phone is not bricked. its only bricked when you cannot even turn on the phone, or usb cant even connect to it.
when the phone's hboot is "SHIP" instead of "ENG" then you can't do fastboot and the only way you'll be able to apply anything would be via the PC10IMG.zip method from the SD card.
Adb doesn't work in fastboot/hboot mode, and if you have no rom with adbd launched on it it won't connect there either.
With the phone in S-ON method you won't be able to downgrade to a older firmware than the one currently installed (and may need a gold card to bypass the CID check).
Also a Bricked phone is one that:
1) Doesn't turn on
2) Can't get into bootloader
3) Can't get into recovery
If you can get into the bootloader you have a chance, an RUU update might be the way to go, but I am not 100% sure on exactly which image should be obtained (maybe wait a day and see if you get more helpful response).
Sweet! Just the fact that I now know it isn't bricked gives me a new hope! Lol.
One thing I forgot to mention is that I downloaded a supposed "stock" PC10IMG.zip and put it on the sd card via an adapter, but when I boot to HBOOT, when it checks the sd, it claims that there is no PC10IMG.zip on there..confuses me...
Also, when i go into Android system recovery, i get the following error:
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
Again. Any help will be appreciated.
although it may not be "bricked" you are showing signs of a failled emmc. if you can get adb access you can check which chip you have. just search the thread for "fried emmc" and you'll find multiple threads on this as well as a a way to check what chip you have in the phone (as one chip is proned to curroption)

Or click the emmc link in my sig, there's been some postings in that poll thread on various ways to check.

I thought that might have been a possibility. I had read a lot about failed chips, and had hoped it wasn't the problem.
All the methods of finding the chip serial number require ADB. This doesn't help me much because when I try doing anything via ADB, it gives me the following error:
error: device offline
Another thing worth mentioning is that it either isn't finding the SD card or it isn't reading it correctly.
when I first boot to HBOOT, it scans the SD card and says this:
SD Checking...
Loading...[PC10DIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PC10GIAG.nbh]
No image!
Loading...[PC10IMG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PC10IMG.nbh]

This is weird, because I downloaded a stock PC10IMG.zip, and put it on the SD card.
Crap...I think I may have already mentioned that ^ lol.
well did you name in pc10img.zip or pc10.img.zip.zip (windows may put file extentions in there for you)
also is it on the root of your sd card (not in any folders)
and sd is properly formatted? (fat32)
it is very possible that the sd card slot is damaged, problem is without a working phone it is hard to check it

Did you also make sure to put the PC10IMG.zip file at the root of your sdcard?

You might want to try to see if you have a faulty SD card first.
The same thing happened to my G2 while I was at the middle of rooting/flashing it and I thought I've done something wrong and bricked the phone.
At the end, it turned out to be a corrupted microSD card that was causing all the problem.
Try rescue it with another SD card first.

Hi All
I am hoping someone can help me out. When i switch my phone on it loads up a black screen with HTC in the middle, and 4 exclamation marks, one in each corner of the screen, and will not switch on.
My phone is rooted and i have ENG S-OFF. I have clockwork recovery installed but cannot boot into it. I cant boot into bootloader but i can run fastboot commands.
So far i have tried the following;
Flash several RUU's, they seem to run smoothly upto the part where they write the sent IMG's, then i get a UNKNOWN ERROR 150.
Update with PD98IMG.zip by running fastboot command "fastboot update PD98IMG.zip", it sends the files to the phone then i get an error when its writing the images, something about links being too long.
Unfortunately the phone will not recognise the SD card either
Im hoping someone can help me out, as ive been without my phone for 3 weeks now, and its driving me insane
Thanks
Jody
Jody I feel your pain as I have a similiar problem.
Phone is running 2.2.1, rooted, Radio S-OFF, ENG S-OFF but won't boot into the bootloader. Tried running 1.32 RUU to downgrade, but comes back with an "unknown error."
Fortunately in my case, the phone works fine, its just that I was trying to upgrade to gingerbread.
If anyone knows a fix for this it will be much appreciated.
I am by no means an expert but a problem with writing files should point to the SD card being bad shouldnt it?
Give this thread a go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=749707
Looks like someone with the same problem, some possible fixes in there.
Thanks for the suggestions so far, ill give them a try and report back.
Just noticed also, when the phone is on the black HTC exclamation mark screen and plugged into the laptop, if i un plug it, it switches to a white screen similar to the bootloader one, but without the 3 androids on the bottom. At the top of the screen it now says "ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF RL". Anyone know what the RL is about?
Cheers
Jody

If you had ENG S-OFF, it should say something along the lines of:
Code:
ACE PVT ENG S-OFF
If you had this before, and it's now changed, it could be a problem with HBOOT. What were you doing the first time around when it broke?

I was trying to restore my nandroid backup via fastboot to see if i could sort the SD card not being recognised issue i was having.
Is HBOOT BOOT.IMG?
HBOOT is the bootloader, nandroid won't have backed it up. I'm not totally certain about how HBOOT works, but you could try using this, to restore ENG S-OFF (and possibly HBOOT too). Be very careful when messing with HBOOT though, from what I gather, it's very easy to brick a phone if you mess it up.
Cheers for that, prob is phone is not recognised by ADB so i cant run any ADB commands
Its weird how the RUU runs fine until writing the images, then comes up with the error about not being the correct rom for the device.
Disclaimer: I have searched and searched, but found nothing that works.
Mytouch 3g, google branded.
Rooted about a year ago. Installed CM5(I think it was 5). Got greedy and messed it up. Tried to go back to stock. Failed. Bought a Vibrant. Put the mytouch in a drawer. Trying to get it to work again. Here is the problem(s):
The recovery installed was a vodafone. It booted up fine, but when on the welcome screen where it says "touch the android to begin" the phone would not recognize the fact that I was actually touching the screen. Track ball worked fine, but since it actually wanted me to touch the screen it was a no go.
Today while trying to fix the phone and trying to flash all kinds of recovery images I would get the "Main version is older! Update fail!" message. I finally found one (the 2.53.707.2_-_sappimg.zip) that would actually get past the update fail.
The phone now boots up to the main home screen. But it still does not recognize the fact that I am actually touching the screen. The only way I can navigate anything is by using the track ball.
When I click on the "dialer", "contacts", or "call log" icons I get the message:
"Sorry. The process android.process.acore has stopped...blah blah blah"
Does anyone have any ideas?
I have a gold card.
Download my fastboot commander from my signature and provide here all device info.

Initially the device wouldn't boot up at all. I managed to flash an RRU and get Android to boot the phone but now the problem is the SDCARD isn't recognized, every time the device boots up it says SD CARD is ready to be removed. I found a command to fix the sdcard bit from the cyanogen mod forums even though I am not running it (I know) remote boot is not allowed on my phone so I can't even use that. Tried to flash the Engineering SPL 2.53.707.2_-_sappimg using a gold card but it pops up stating:
Main Version is older!
Update Fail!
Please help!
[EDIT]
Also, fastboot getvar version-main gives out the following:
version-main: 2.56.494.7
I understand that my version is higher. Is there a way I could modify it? or the sappimg to think otherwise?
[EDIT]
Cheers!
[UPDATE]
I have managed to root using one click method and now have busybox and su.
I have also managed to flash amon_ra recovery without sd card (well obviously since SD card isn't working for me). Recovery doesn't see the sd card either sadly.

No, its not rooted. You can read more about it here:

Edit:
Too bad, the G2 complains about "Lack of heap" for this PC10IMG.zip. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Thanks, but still no luck. It checks out the PC10IMG.zip with progress bar, then "Checking.." and goes back to HBOOT page without flashing anything.
So this is probably the closest I got to unbricking, but still no dice. I use this PC10IMG_Vision_TMOUS_1.19.531.1_Radio_12.21.60.09b_26.02.01.15_M2_release_149459_signed.zip as PC10IMG.zip and the phone actually says "Main version is older" and refuses to flash.
Will it be possible to use a hex editor and edit the version number to trick the G2 to flash that ROM?

After it checks the pc10img.zip you don't get any prompt at all to update, such as volume bar up to update and volume bar down to cancel?

Nope, it just went back to the HBOOT page. However, with the other PC10IMG.zip file I mentioned, it actually says that the "main version is older" and hence not flashing. I'm thinking if I can just edit the version in android-version.txt, then maybe that will trick the G2 to flash? Is there any other place/file where version check is done?
After you put the pc10img.zip on the sd card and you reboot into bootloader, press the power bar one time and there should be a progress bar on the right side that does a check. After that, don't do anything, just report here what is says on the phone display.
Here's the result so far:
1. PC10IMG.zip from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074391

No blue bar, error saying "Lack of heap" during Loading...[PC10IMG.zip]
2. PC10IMG.zip from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=912399
There is a blue bar progress. After the bar is all blue, phone proceeds to "Checking...[PC10IMG.zip]" and then it simply jumped back to HBOOT/bootloader page with Fastboot, Recovery, etc options. No error message or any option whatsoever.
3. PC10IMG.zip from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835971

That's why I thought maybe by hacking the version in the 3rd PC10IMG.zip might trick the phone to flash the PC10IMG.zip.

You could mod the stock images, but you would have to sign it with HTC's signature. Maybe a goldcard will fix this?
If I follow this correctly, the main version is older error is because you are trying to flash an older ROM on top of an new one. You are also using the stock, S-ON, non-engineering bootloader so you get stuck at the signature checks.
Maybe you might get lucky...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842495
If you can boot into the system, or a custom recovery, it is possible to change the version values, using the misc_version tool from the wiki.
Otherwise, you could try flash the 2nd PC10IMG via fastboot.
-Nipqer
Unfortunately, I can't boot into the system. I can only get the bootloader and fastboot. Both recovery and normal boot give me the HTC splash screen and stuck there. Thus I cannot use adb at all
I guess I'll look more into the gold card method. I've never tried a gold card before. Is there a good tutorial on this? Thanks for all the suggestions.
Don't rule out adb until you try it. Even if it's stuck on the splash screen, you might be able to use adb shell.
I'm not 100% sure the gold card will work, but it's worth a shot. You can search for it on xda- other phones relied on it more for rooting than the g2.
Well, after checking the PC10IMG.zip that I've used, I still have some questions.
From my understanding, the second PC10IMG.zip won't work because it's not signed. It is a homebrew with clockwork recovery, original 1.12 ROM and .76 HBOOT. That's probably why the phone just returns back to G2 HBOOT screen after checking the PC10IMG.zip
The problem with third PC10IMG.zip is simply that it's too old and G2 refuses to flash it.
My question is why the first PC10IMG.zip not flashing? It is the latest OTA from T-MO, signed and sealed All I get is "Lack of heap" error when the HBOOT found the PC10IMG.zip
You might be onto something...
The unofficial leaked version is 2.13.531.8, but the official GB update is higher - 2.15.531.3.
It's out here somwhere- let me fire up the ol' search engine.
---------- Post added at 11:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:48 PM ----------
Try the ROM in this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1210835
It's version is 2.15.531.8, so it should be higher than any T-MO ROM out there.
If you still get the lack of heap error, than try a gold card.
Good luck!
Edit: to be clear, the first ROM you flashed is the leaked version - 2.13.531.3.
Goldcard will not help, a goldcard only lets you bypass CID errors.
I've only seen lack of heap when someone tried to flash a DZ PC10IMG to a G2, so make sure you have a proper one.
You can try flash it from fastboot.
1. get to fastboot (hold down trackpad when powering up, or select fastboot from hboot menu)
2. in cmd 'fastboot devices' to make sure it works (from tools or platform-tools if you havn't set Path variable)
3. fastboot oem rebootRUU (this will get you to a black screen with silver HTC logo)
4. fastboot flash zip PC10IMG.zip
If it stops and says "FAILED: Repeat Immediatly" just redo the fastboot flash zip command.

Hey guys,
I know this has been asked and discussed many times here, but I'm really frustrated and can't get my problem solved!
I have tried to "factory reset" my phone regularly from the settings, but since then it restarted and never booted again. I have tried many steps out there to go around or solve this problem but no hope! it just goes to white "HTC" screen and that is it!
when I hold vol down and power, it goes to H-boot, with the following screen. I tried everything from the screen, here are the results: (of course connected with USB)
it quickly checks for pd15img.zip and says "wrong image" or "wrong file"
1- Fastboot: new menu:
-Bootloader: goes back the first menu.
-Reboot: restarts and stays on the "HTC" white screen for ever.
-Reboot Bootlaoder: FREEZES!
-PowerDown: shuts down.
2-Recovery: restarts then screen shows a cellphone with green "sync" arrows on top. then screen turns off and phone vibrates short and quick 8 vibrations.
3-FactoryReset: FREEZES!
4-Simlock: FREEZES!
5- Image CRC: FREEZES!
what do I do? if you know other thread talks about this problem please direct me to it. I'm suppose to be a Communications Engineer in my fourth year... but after seeing this problem and how clueless I am.. i feel like ****!

and when I pressed the power button it reboots and stays on the "HTC" white screen. could it be there is something wrong with the file? or do I need PD15IAG.zip file?
Now tell me something else. What does Google show when you search for 'PD15IMG.ZIP CID incorrect update failed'?
And what can you learn about your phone, if it shows this message?
Isn't this the very very basics of searching for solution?

This is good only if PD15IMG wouldn't be read at all. Judging by OP's message, his phone actually loads PD15IMG and fails the CID check. It would be also very, very strange if his PD15IMG would be corrupted in such way as to remain a proper ZIP, but corrupt the signature file with CID. Also, I believe that he at least did the download right. Maybe I'm giving him too much credit.
Dear Mr. OP,
I don't give solutions to people that are too lazy/ignorant/blind to make the minimal required basic effort to get to the solution themselves. If you'd bother searching, you'd see that the FIRST Google hit is a specific page on a specific thread in this forum, and if you had something that remotely resembles brain, you'd learn that most likely:
1) You don't have MyTouch 4G, but another phone (though also an HTC Glacier).
2) There's a way to circumvent CID check on this phone to flash MT4G's PD15IMG.
Since you're trying to annoy the very people you're asking for help, I'll leave you with that. Good luck.
Well i tried : p

Ding ding ding. We have a winner…
what carrier did you get your phone from and which country? is this actually where did you download the PD15IMG.zip from exactly? (and i'm assuming that you do indeed have the PD15IMG.zip on the root of your sdcard when youre starting the bootloader) is this the stock rom version for your phone? are you able to get a fastboot connection via usb, and if so, have you tried to flash the rom via by renaming PD15IMG.zip to StockRom.zip and running these commands from the terminal.
./fastboot oem rebootRUU
./fastboot flash zip StockRom.zip
./fastboot reboot
are you even able to get an ./adb connection from the bootloader? if you can get either a fastboot or adb connection this can be fixed.

Can't use fastboot unless he has the engineering bootloader.

im not sure where you got that idea but he most certainly can use fastboot. the OP even shows that he is able to set fastboot on the phone, im now wondering if he's able to get ./fastboot devices to see it on the computer.

Ok Mr obvious! you seem to be too cool to talk or give a solution, just looking for the "thank you" hits.
what a waste. Still couldn't find what you were referring to as " the very very basics". Plus your forum that you were too cool to mention its name didn't say anything regarding "CID not found update fail"
but thanks again, no bad feelings

you can check inside of the PD15IMG.zip archive and open a file named android-info.txt
it will have listed modelid:
cidnum:
mainver:
hbootpreupdate:
that will tell you the device that, that particular rom is intended for
cidnum will be T-MOB010 if its a tmobile
There is no adb from bootloader. Ever. In any phone.
Flashing PD15IMG through fastboot doesn't make any difference besides making him unable to exit fastboot RUU mode - because the same CID check will be applied.
Mytouch 4G is T-Mobile phone ONLY, and there is no other PD15IMG "in the wild" for any other CID.
There is another Glacier, and it doesn't have PD15IMG, it has RUU EXE (and PD15IMG for this phone can be extracted from this RUU - but it's a wasted step anyway).

He can, but he won't be able to flash custom stuff with it (it'll fail signature check) - this is the difference between ENG and regular bootloader, ENG doesn't check signatures and allows flashing to various locked-by-default partitions like splash1.
Hey guys, I know there may be a lot of answers to this problem, but I have looked everywhere and the links provided with the pd15img.zip files don't seem to work to restore my mytouch 4g. I have tried so many different things to try to get this phone to life. Whenever I turn it on, it goes all the way to the lock screen but when I unlock it it shows the mytouch logo and nothing else ..no icons nothing... or sometimes it just shows the phone signal and time on top but thats it....so definitely needs to be restored. I am quite knowledgeable in rooting and flashing roms etc and I have followed all directions... hold power and volume down with sd card inserted... (PD15IMG.zip file in root directory of sd card) when it searches for it and tries to load it..it says MAIN VERSION OLDER... I have tried several of the zip files in the link below
http://www.4shared.com/folder/xDsyJF52/_online.html
non of them seem to work....it just says main version older...does this main the main version on the phone...or the version on the sd card? Anyone that can help please?!?! I have another phone but I am trying to save this phone for my mother. Here are the details of the phone

I have gone into recovery as well..wiped cache and wipe data etc..no luck.... I really think it can be done flashing one of the pd15img.zip files...idk but also when I download those files on my computer...i cannot transfer to my other phone to sd card...says the zip files are corrupt...or when I try to extract them to try to see inside..it says it cannot extract them...but they do download the full MB size...so what I did was download the pd15img.zip to the sdcard from my Galaxys3.... and then I stick the sd card on my mytouch4g...but keeps saying main version is older...please help guyss!!!
anyone can help me??
