So how many people we really still have using and working on the vibrant? I'm feeling kinda lonely with my love for this phone =P seems like the vibrant is getting left in the dust allot quick then my G1, which is sad =/
Also side note, anyone else feel like with a SGS there really isn't anything good enough to upgrade to yet? Only phone I'd even consider is the original SGS2 or the sprint SGS2. And those are iffy due to crappy audio. Vibrant is the best phone I own period. Beats my nexus S in everything =P even beats out my HP touchpad easily IMO. Thoughts?

I feel you man, I'm getting bored of this phone. I will probably upgrade to the muiu phone. Since, it's battery lastes so long.

I just got the Vibrant about 2 months ago, as my wife's Motorola crapped out on her and our carrier swapped it out for the Vib. She wanted to swap with me, so I did and I have to say that once I upgraded it to a custom ROM, I actually like it a lot. It works well for me and what I want.
I think that most of the Jump-ship is because of boredom and not performance. I feel that and understand it. I have been there myself, but I like this phone and it is really easy to handle, breakdown (mean ADB by this) and there have been some really great customizations out on it.
Plus between the 16gb internal and my 32gb external, that is some serious storage for a phone. My old computer from a few years ago only had 30gb hard drive in it.
I am here and plan on staying for awhile.
I'm still here, kinda. My G2x is my main driver, but i still got my Vibrant and still build kernels when i have time. You're not alone

But this phones death is due from no updates.from tmobile. it just makes it way harder to develop for....
Go to the galaxy s2 forums ;-) .
You will find most of the great devs from many of the different forums there.
It seems as though Samsung shipped out yet another phone with outdated filmware lol....imagine that,
They are promising to send ics thru kies lmao ....I believe we have been thru this BS before
There are 3 vibrants in my home. My wife upgraded to the sensation and after a week gave it to my son and took her vibrant out of the drawer. I personally love this phone. Thanks to all the devs who still work on it. I have stockpiled my fave roms and kernels....just in case the remaining devs leave

I just got my Vibrant 2 mth ago from my fren who sold to me. Im not chasing the technology so i tink this phone is great for me. I like it a lot n planning to stay with it for a while longer cos i dont have the 2yrs contract matter. Btw cos im frm Singapore and we dont have Vibrant here so that makes my phone unique than the original SGS..lol. But i really dissapointed on Samsung on the firmware case and yeah this phone if rooted fly high. So i have to say i love my vibrant. Also thanks to all the devs here, appreciated what u guys have done for us n for staying with us making us great customs roms/kernels.

ICS for Vibrant? Looking foward to this.lol
this is a great phone and when rooted does everything i've ever wanted a phone to do. although the experience with ICS will more than likely be better I'm still content with what we have so far. there are no hardcore 3d games that have pushed the hardware to the limit so I don't see any real hardware upgrade necessary. I stopped buying games on my vibrant any way cause I wasn't finishing the ones I had bought before and realized I was wasting my money. So i'm simply using it for media apps, social apps etc. These don't really need a dual core processor with 1gig of ram. The only thing I could want is an identical ICS theme and I'd be set at least for another year on this phone even if we don't ever get ICS.
Yeah, I could maybe see myself moving over to the Nexus S simply because it's got a bigger dev community and the T-Mobile version can be found for pretty cheap, but otherwise I just can't justify moving on from the Vibrant. If I don't go for the Nexus S I'll probably ride out with this until more ICS phones come out.
Hey ECOTOX, I've been quietly learning some stuff about Android and whatnot, I wouldn't consider myself a dev, not even close to one, but I'm learning and I catch on quickly, if you need any help, or have any tips, I'm here. I love this phone, and I won't be moving on to any other phone anytime soon.

I feel the same. I just don't see a lot of end user support with the Samsung products such as the Vibrant, and many other iterations. Updates seems to either take forever or it'll may never see the light of day. As for developer community? I can't really complain about their support for this device, since they are bringing out the goodies out of their own time with no expectations of donations, etc. And I'm grateful that they are cooking up roms, etc. In the future? I will be purchasing a Google branded phone: prompt updates, and great end user support. I just can't live with a dead end product, just feels like I got cheated out.
Well I just went to T-Mobile store and played with the sgs2 and I must say I'm completely impressed.
With a quadrant score of 2748 stock I'm blown away.
With my shattered screen and assurion's choice of replacement I'm sticking with my broken vibrant with miui ...I'm hoping sgs2 gets miui soon ...but I'm getting antsy and just might go out next week and buy the sgs2 outright
Hey i justed returned my problematic prime and picked up my gtab. Im nit trying to spark any argument here. My first impressions were that samsung rpackaged it alot better than the prime. I also like how they gave free headphones. Next i noticed how much better and solid it felt than the prime. Im really happy with the exchange. Im not trying to say the prime isnt a good device cause its great but im really liking the gtab.

Thanks! Glad you posted this. I'm sure me and many others were thinking of jumping ship to the Prime. However, I have not heard many good things about it. This post really concrete's my decision on keeping the Tab.
Thanks!
I also gave up on the Prime. I'm trying to decide whether to go with a gtab 10.1 or wait a few weeks for the newer versions coming out.

Sorry to see you gave up. I have posted more than once that I am "Mostly Happy" with the Prime, having come from a TF101 (That required 2 exchanges to get right, but only cosmetic defects. The Prime has become a tremendously pollarizing device, more than any in recent memory, possibly on par with the iPhone itself. There are people that will plain not hear ANY critisizm of it. Granted there has been a huge amount of whining and moaning, and not enough constructive looking at the issues.
As it has been observed, both camps have a point, and should be able to post about it as much as they please, though creating redundant threads is an annoyance no matter what the subject.
Personally, I am only bothered by 2 kinds of posts: The "Prime is a POS and Asus should be forced to buy everyone a new device" and the "The Prime is the king of all human endeavors, easily surpassing the Apollo Mission, The space shuttle, and the seven wonders. If you want to say anything negative about it I stick my fingers in my ears; lalalalala I can't HEAR YOU. Lalalalalala"
Both kinds of extremism are so tedious. The Prime is an incredibly CAPABLE device with huge POTENTIAL. It has a somewhat higher amount of teething pains, but Asus is one of the more responsive companies, witnessed by Gary's presence and the regular releasing of updates. Notice I didn't say SUCCESSFUL updates. But give credit where it's due, they are tryng like hell.
Where they get a major fail in my book is how slow, and painful RMA process is. Asus should be making a much geater effort to fix or replace the defective units, at whatever cost. Especially if they feel that they have gotten the bugs out of manufacturing. Hmmm. I wonder if they are there yet. If not, I hopr they pull it off, and get consistent, defect free Primes rolling out VERY SOON. This seems to be a tipping point for the devices ultimate failure or success. We may even have passed the point, as a lot of damage has been done in the media. When you are at the top, everyone wants to knock you off. Give them ammunition and it's that much harder to maintain.
My wife went to buy me a prime about a week ago and the tech guy told her they were expected to be totally recalled in the next week. She bought me a tab instead and I love it. When you live an hour away from where you buy something having to exchange it even once is a big PITA.

After an amazing turn of events, I just won an international version of the sgs3 and when it arrives, I'll probably be rooting and using the sgs3 as my new phone.
I would have to say that my experience with the DZ has its ups and downs (I'm looking at your stupid hinge design and the need for new springs HTC), but it was a fantastic phone.
I wish HTC would come out with another top of the line qwerty phone but alas, it probably wont happen anyways since their lackluster attempts.
I guess I'll be in this forum for not that much longer which is a sad thing because the dev community here is really really amazing...

I'd also really appreciate hearing about your experiences with the S-III. One of my sons just got one but he is not technologically inclined at all and won't be doing anything out of the ordinary to his, even though I'm itching to get my hands on it!

I used Odin to root. Was so simple. They have two recoveries for now. I use cwm for now but they have another touch based recovery called trwp (I think spelling)
The battery life is great, right after I rooted they came out with another ics update. I immediately put it on my phone via flashing through cwm and kept root through a dev name wildchld. Upgraded radio through a flash in cwm and stayed on the uvlah Rom for a couple of days. Couldnt help myself and that same dev has a Rom called exqisit and flashed it and been on it every since. They have and odex.apk from Paul obrien, so odexed it and it's as smooth as butter. Got 20 hrs of heavy use yesterday!! The leak jellybean is out from Samsung but I want to hold out as long as possible and play with ics some more.
Having a great time with this phone though. Loved my g2, but this is on another level, as would be expected. Getting used to touchwiz and no hw keyboard is interesting but quite easier then I thought it would be. The screen is HUGE!! All in all I'm very happy.

Well, if I recall correctly, the international gs3 may be quad core. The Tmo US version isn't, that I do know. So I'm now on a black sgs2, since it was half the price of the 3 at target and had almost the specs. (Sure the sgs3 has lte, but that doesn't matter much where I live.) Will be updating the g2 to jb soon since I just updated the sgs3 to it. That way the fallback phone won't be too jarring if I need it.

this is such a sweet thing to know.. I'm definitely going to have to start reading on rooting guides and also roms to go for. I don't think i'll be liking touchwiz so I would probably be pushing for a vanilla ICS or JB.. then maybe get a sense like theme over it (I like how sense has a big phone button on the bottom)
btw, do you guys recommend a case or a skin for the phone? I have the skin but i keep on getting annoyed that eventually it gets peeled off and no company makes a skin that fits perfectly.. some even have like a 2 mm gap on each side which drives me nuts
I have an otterbox, but I'm not really digging it that much. Doesn't feel real secure to me but is doing the job.

I'm wondering if I will not replace my DZ with a GS3 too... right now, I don't have the money to spend, but when I will, I really hope (but don't really believe ) there will be another physical keyboard device released here in Europe (France)... But I know I might have to take a full touch device, because every manufacturers are doing this, iPhone-like smartphones... And the GS3 seems to be one of the best of them!
Mine is wearing a transparant TPU case, fits perfectly
niice... Well I ended up just buying a metal insert battery backing and a screen protector.
That should cover the important parts.
I'm currently trying out omega's rom with nova launcher... so far so good. Any rom suggestions?

there are a few developers and belive me i know a dead device i developed for the zte warp untill the androidforums.com mods told me there was no use move on.... the diference is there is no "community development" when multiple people work together to build the best rom possible and there id no themeing either which is a substancial part of any development community. i respect you evol4g otherwise i wouldnt have asked you to my team you are doing a great job keep it going the point of this post was to motivate some of the other developers that have been dormant since jellybean came out you all know that they are out there.
Mostly because people are waiting for 4.2. A lot of the current ROMs are similar and very stable so no need to really make new ROMs unless its say Touchwiz, Sense, or any other custom Android firmware. Wait until 4.2 and devs will probably start making more ROMs.
Incorrect thread is incorrect.

I will preface my comment by saying i really do appreciate all of the work still being done here. But, let's not kid ourselves. Compared to a year ago, or even 6 months ago, the development has slowed down substantially. I wouldn't say its dead, however this device is showing its age. There are new and better devices that a lot of the people that used to frequent this forum. have moved on to.
Again I do appreciate all of the work still happening in here. This is by far the best supported device I have owned!

After a year and a half I don't think there's much potential a dev hasn't thought of for this device. You don't see a lot of rom development much after the 2 year mark. Mainly because the devs upgrade to a new phone. I'm just grateful for the work the devs are currently doing!

It will pick back up when el goog releases 4.2 source. I don't think nexus s will "officially" get 5.0. I do think that a few devs will build it for this device regardless. I might even still be here for that, I haven't decided if I'm going to get a nexus 4 yet. The fact that there is potential for glass to break on both sides of the phone doesn't excite me...

Good points and when development does eventually grind to a halt for this device, none of us can really get upset about that. It seems to me for the age of this device, development work has far outlived many other phones.

For a device of this age, with new devices out that trump it... to see any ROMs getting updated is amazing. Take a look at the HTC Vivid for a community that's dead!

For a new phone, yes. And from what I've been hearing, the battery life isn't even that great, considering the lack of LTE...
I'm a "new" Nexus S owner (bought one used for $120)... and I'm glad I did. It's a solid phone! Now only if I could figure out how to program peak and off-peak email syncing...
I think we'll have the option to have community aosp 5. It will be an option. Just liked the other nexus phones that stopped getting otas but had the option of a built one.

Maybe we should all learn how to develop ROMs. That go's for all non developers in this community, including me. If there was any guides on how to build really good ROMs I think the nexus community will be more understanding of how it is to be a developer and evolve the community.

Hello all Note 10.1 2014 owners.
I am starting this thread to see who is interested in a Hyperdrive ROM.
If you are not familiar, it is a ROM developed by sbreen94 on predominantly Samsung Galaxy devices. Probably one of the best and most popular ROMs out there. Check a few of the Galaxy development threads and you will understand.

He has been developing for the old Note 10.1 for a while, he does not own a Note 10.1 2014. However, he said if we can put a 2014 edition in his hands he would be more than willing to create the ROM.
Is there any interest in this? I figure a 16gb refurb would do which can be had for around $350.
haspampel and hashcheck have developed two great KK ROMS so far, but it seems development for this tablet is otherwise lacking. This would be a superb addition.

UPDATE 5/23/2014
Everything looks to be in place. Nabour's costs have been covered, see her post if interested in the details. Any further donations should be directed to sbreen as additional people see fit.
We will now patiently await, and I stress patiently . Any additional insights could be posted in this thread while sbreen is developing but let's not be bothering him. To quote Fat Sam from the movie Fletch "When it comes, it comes"
Thanks again to all who made this happen!
Depends... we would get him for wi-fi only version or lte?
:good: If users around here are interested in this, i would be happy to make and support a rom for you!
We really need a custom rom for P601 badly, I know that would be a big hit here now, as currently there is only 1 that is not upgraded that often.
Ran Hyperdrive ROM on my ATT S3 for a long time before exploring KitKat Rom options. Lots of options and customization. I'd definitely be interested if a ROM was developed.

I'm sure you're a nice person and all and well respected here on XDA. Problem is... so was Scrolser and he left us out to dry. Guys, sbreen94 is the real deal. He currently supports 4 or 5 devices. He just doesn't get a new one and forgets about the old ones like some devs do. I will start off the bidding at $20.00 for the wifi model (P600). This would be a most excellent addition to the Note 10.1 2014 community.

Guys, I would totally support Mr. Breen. I have used Hyperdrive on my Galaxy Note 3 and it is an amazing rom. He is an experienced, top-rated developer.
Let me know how this works - do we just start sending donations, or is it more organized than that.

Yes!
I would love to see this rom available for this device!
P600
I would be ok to trow some bucks in for p605, but i doubt there will be anyone else, since we are so few. (i think?)
You can count on 10$ donation from me if you decide to start working on it.
Donations etc.
I figured it would be for the P600 since that is what a majority of people probably own, and it is the easier of the three to be had for a lower price.
I don't know how to organize donations. Perhaps we should do it bounty style with people posting what they can contribute, I'll keep track.
Put me down for $40.
sbreen is legit. He has always well supported all of his roms for all of his devices. I think you'll have an impossible time finding anyone to say anything negative about his work.

Thanks for the support guys. I would say let's go for the Wi-Fi model which is the P600 I'm assuming. I think posting the amount you are able to contribute in this thread is good so we can keep track. I should probably be able to chip in like 50$ of my own funds toward it
