Just simply back-up your contact thru your external memory or sd card..just go to contacts then press menu,,and click import/export then choose export to sd card..Every time you reflash another ROM, just go into the MY files and look for a file which has .vcf..that's your contact list you back-up earlier, apply it! and now it's restored! :victory:

How to get backed up data/apps back onto flashed Desire

Apologies in advance if this is in the wrong area or if it has been answered, i've tried searching and nothing specific to this shows up.
I've just flashed my radio and rom to Cyanogen nightly 08202010 and everything is going well and looks good but how can I get all my backed up data and apps from my card that I backed up prior to the flash?
I've went into recovery and it all seems there but I need a way of getting it onto the phone from the card without screwing anything up.
First time doing this as you can tell.
Thanks for any help in advance,
Paul.

Thanks for replying mate. Used an app called MyBackup from the market. It allowed me to backup data and apps to my SD.
I've since learned that nandroid is a very good system, I found that on the recovery screen after I'd flashed my rom.
Any help is well appreciated.

[Q] Rooted Vibrant + T-Mobile Update = Brick?

I just recieved the T-Mobile update an hour and my phone is stuck on the vibrant screen. It was rooted and practically deleted almost every stock app that came with the phone. Is the update still installing or is my phone bricked for good?

You could try making a Nandroid and then restoring only the data portion.
It all depends on what the OTA update did to your phone.
Well I'm stuck on the Vibrant Logo screen. Can you tell me how to do that? just restore the data portion?

I had the same problem. I had OCLF on my phone and I had un-lag-fixed and unrooted with it in anticipation of the JI6 update. When I ran the OTA, it bricked my phone anyway. I had to use Odin to get back to stock and that sounds like what you need to do too.
When I Odin'd back to stock, I still had all my videos, photos, and a bunch of files and stuff for apps, but I still needed to reinstall all the apps and redo all the settings/configurations.
oh man cause I used AK Notepad and basically my life is on that. Will those be erased too? and texts?

Odin from stock wipes out the existing applications (and replaces all the bloatware too), so they needed to be reinstalled. Once reinstalled from Market, and reinstalling Titanium Backup, I was able to restore from the /sdcard the backups I had made previously.
There was some work involved with getting the system back to what I had, but I didn't lose any data.

Where are the AKNotepad notes kept? so i can use adb pull to grab them.
I'm back to stock and it didn't erase any if my pictures, music, files, etc. but since I received the update already back when I was rooted, does that mean I won't be getting the update at all anymore? Or do I have to wait again for another roll-out?

Are you guys just really impatient or something with the update. Mine stayed on the Vibrant screen for a while, but I just let it go and it worked out just fine. Mine was rooted and with the Ryan Lag fix.
I guess there is always the possibility that individual experiences can differ.

I followed the instructions on another website. I tried the one they gave me here but it didn't work for me.
Type the following on the Google search bar:

It should be the first link there and should look something like this:

Look at all of the choices available and find the rom you like the most.
I'd personally recommend,
Lightweight and speed: oxygen

Miui is good as well.
Kernel: netarchys 1.3.7 with proton voltage condolences to undervolt and use voodoo functionality

Yes, but you'd have had enabled back up to your Google account before you rooted and have to enable it on the rooted phone again, then the market will try to restore all apps.
If you didn't you got to do it manually (recommend doing it via webside market for easier accessing old apps), then get Titanium Backup and save all your apps.

No. Redownload them and back it up using a backup apply. I'd recommend tianjin backup pro. It costs $6 but its worth it. It backs up ur apps/games and data along with it.
Every rom flash involving a factory reset will wipe your apps. With titanium backup pro, you can one click restore everything

Ok,
Final question is that how do i go about installing the rom? I downloaded it and transferred it to the memory card.
I go into fastboot and into recovery.

1. Download the ROM
2. mount the phone's USB
3. put it on the root of the /sdcard/ while mounted
4. unmount
5. go into recovery
6. wipe factory settings, data cache, dalvk cache (advanced)
P.S. i'd recommend getting clockwork 4.0.0.2 from the dev forums, its a lot better. better organization on wipes
7. flash the ROM (if you're flashing CM7, you have to flash Gapps afterwards) [flash zip from sdcard]
this flash applies to any flashable zips including kernels/roms/radios... DO NOT FLASH BOOT ANIMATIONS. you put them in /system/media/ if you choose to do so
8. reboot

Clockwork does restore contacts, settings, sms, etc, in short, it makes a snapshot of your phone in any given time, and then, when you restore, your phone returns exactly how it was before. If contacts, settings and other stuff isn't being restored in your phone, when you use clockwork, then you're doing something wrong for sure...

HOW it's even possible to do something wrong if all you have to do to backup and restore-is click on 1 menu item in restore menu? STrange but for me it only restored apps, that's it no settings nothing.
Maybe it's a stupid question but anyway... I wonder where is a location of backup witch is made in CMW-based Recovery 4.0.1.5?
Because I am making a lot of backup's and upgrades these days so I'll have to clean up it some how.

Copy all of my apps from my S3 Mini to the S5?

Hi there, I'm new to the Galaxy S5 forum and don't actually own the device itself yet, but I'm planning on getting it in a few months so here goes my ? :
Since I've got around 300 apps on my current phone, I don't wanna download and update each apps's settings all over again when I get my new S5 and I was wondering if doing a nandroid backup of my S3 Mini containing just the "data" partition and restoring it on the S5 will work and all of my apps will be copied over with all of their settings untouched, BUT I also won't lose any of the preinstalled apps on the S5 itself?
Or maybe I can try this app and make flashable zips of my apps and then flash them on the GS5?
This has always been the main trouble I have had when switching phones before, though I never switched from Android to Android. Hope someone can shed some light on my question and make me buy the S5 sooner Good night all!!
P.S. I DON'T CARE ABOUT KNOX AND SUCH CRAP. THE FIRST DAY I GET MY PHONE IT'S GONNA BE ROOTED AND WITH TWRP INSTALLED.

+1 for Titanium backup.
Other method, google for nandroid manager (need root so).
Just copy your (previous) recovery backup on phone, and restore via nandroid manager all that you want.
Be aware of system apps not to restore of course.
Good luck

Won't this actually work just by hitting restore in TWRP and choosing only the "data" part of my backup (why an app)? Or maybe TWRP won't recognise my S3 Mini backup, because it's from another phone?

No, I don't think so.
AFAIK, restoring data will restore all data without restrictions, and it could be bad if you come from another phone or ROM.
With nandroid manager, you can choose what you want to restore (app or app+data) for user app or system app, for every app you want.
You have to copy your last backup from old phone to new one, choose it by nandroid manager then navigate for options of restore.
You can restore bluetooth-wifi pairings, sms, mms, call logs, and apps (app or app+data).
Google for a tuto on "how to", here's an exemple http://www.informationlord.com/how-to-restore-nandroid-backup-without-cwm/.
Good luck

I think that choosing Advanced Restore in TWRP settings gets you to this window and then you choose what to restore. It's the same with backing up, you choose backup and then select with "x" the partitions you wanna backup. I just didn't know if restoring just "data" will break my phone, but now I know it won't, because when the phone is new there aren't going to be any apps installed in the "data" partition (all are pre-installed in "system"). So I'll just have to go to TWRP, choose advanced restore and only select "data" with "x", then swipe to restore. If something goes wrong I can always go back to recovery and wipe "data" (I'll still have all of my system apps) or even flash a stock ROM with Odin

A word of caution.......
Your new S5 will be preinstalled with KK.
If your old phone has a different version of Android, be VERY cautious about installing app data.....There is a very good chance that doing so will cause instability and force closes of your apps.......
Restoring the apps themselves this way shouldn't cause any issue......you'll just see a message that says something like "android is upgrading.......1 of xx apps" before your phone starts.....but as I said, data *may* prove to be a whole other issue.......
