I have selected AOKP as my first experience with ROMs but am getting a few problems I cannot find solutions for through searching. This thread will be dedicated to the fact that when I restore my 32-ish apps (some with data) from Titanium Backup, it suggests a reboot but when I do, it never boots. It just sits on the rotating unicorn for about 10 minutes until I get bored and yank the battery then SBF back to .604 and start over. Should I just re-download all of them from the Market manually? Ideas?
Or you could restore them one at a time. Reboot after each one and see which one is causing the issue. But if you're not concerned about losing any app data then yes, I'd just get them all back from the market.

Try restoring the apps without data.
If this still gives you a bootloop, just download the apps from the Play Store.

Yeah, that is what I thought. Thanks for the verification.
First post on XDA so might as well be a noob mistake and cry for help. :crying:
So after rooting my GS4 I went through on Titanium Backup and deleted all the AT&T apps. Was careful not to delete anything that was related to Samsung. Shortly after went to use S Voice and now S Voice crashes saying "Unfortunately, S Voice has stopped".
I remembered deleting an app by the name of "attupdate..." and now when I go into settings to About device > Software update nothing happens when I click on that.
I made no back ups and can't find any option in Titanium to restore the file. Not sure what to do at this point.

I believe you are out of luck until we get a usable stock image. Unless someone can backup that particular app and send it to you for restore. I am not totally sure.

Decided to try the factory reset now it crashes after the part where you name your device saying "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped" and kicks me back to the previous screen. Now the device is unusable.

Let me know what apps you need and I'll make backups and email them to you to restore from TiBu... Too late now, but this is why I always freeze apps, then make sure the phone still works right before uninstalling them.

Lesson learned, OP and others? Before deleting anything, FREEZE them, especially when we don't have a way to go back just yet! With a phone this new and no ROMs available, I haven't deleted a single thing off of it, all my bloat has just been frozen

From what I have found online they havent released the firmware for the I337 GS4 yet only the I9500. I have it plugged into my computer and Kies sees it but doesnt let me do anything the firmware. It says "Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via Kies".
In recovery mode I get an error when I try to clear the cache partition. Though it does let me do the factory reset. When first booting after a factory reset I get an error saying Text-to-speech as stopped. Then after I name the device and check which options I want on it comes back saying Settings has stopped and kicks me back to naming the device. I have tried turning off all options (S Beam, etc.) and still the same.
Had I not done the factory reset I would still have a working device just without S Voice. Freezing vs uninstalling is for sure the better way to go about things, I just got ahead of myself. Now I have a cutting edge desk ornament until I can find a fix.

Yes that is exactly the idea......hope this helps.........
Sorry skimmed past our first question , you can freeze them by applying root , then installing an app called titanium back up from the market , I use the paid version , Pro. You can also disable apps without root by going to application manager ,all , then disable what apps you want to freeze , do a couple at a time and make sure apps you disable don't disrupt your phone then a few more and so on and so on..........

What he said.... but if you don't know what you're doing with this, chances are you SHOULDN'T be doing them! Just follow those steps and you shouldn't screw anything up, but if you get stuck, ask for help on the forum please and not in PM to just one person BEFORE going through with the step you are unsure of! We all weren't born with this knowledge and we're glad to help, but it doesn't help when you go and screw with stuff you shouldn't be just because the opportunity is there - if you don't know what you're doing, don't do it!
For those who don't know...You can also go to settings, more, application manager, all, touch the app you want to "freeze" and touch disable at top right...without root.
My playstore will not update apps or install new apps.
1. I have logged out and back into my google account.
2. Tried deleting PlayStore app data and force quit.
3. Deleted data from google services app and restarted tablet.
4. Installed TWRP backup from 1 week ago.
Still can't get it to work. Sometimes it will begin to download an app and then stop. Mostly it just says downloading but nothing is happening. I'd appreciate suggestions or solutions. Thanks

Network is fine. Computers on network Down 4.88Mbps Up 0.58
Then call google.
They suggest factory reset.
try flashing a different rom along with a gapps package, that could fix it
Since everything else was working I did nothing, Didn't want to reset unless absolutely necessary. Today Google Play is working again. Must have been some communication issue with Google servers.
Did you updated the latest play store?? You can get if form this link.

I did not realize that you can flash gapps over stock. I've only done it in conjunction with installation of a ROM.
If I have further problems , I'll give it a try. thanks. Currently it's working normally.

No matter what I do... no matter what ROM I flash to, and I have tried 4 different ROMs, I keep getting the UI Stops Working error and then my phone is virtually non-functional. The notifications, navigation, and launcher bars go away and I cannot do anything. The only thing that I can do is boot into recovery and then flash a new ROM, BUT I have been doing this a couple times a day.
I even formatted my entire phone, internal storage and all, started completely over AND YET I still get the issue. What can I do???

The only ones that I can think of are the live wallpaper ones, Email Exchange since I don't need it, and face unlock. I also froze the NFC. I wouldn't think that would cause it. I was reading on the internet that the Facebook app can cause it so I deleted the app and we will see.

When this happened to me I used Matt's utility option 1... rooted it updated it n made a TiB of everything... now when I tinker n it gets wonky I restore the systemui.apk n reboot... I know you said that you started over does that mean you used rsd and flashed stock... or did you go through a recovery to do the wiping formatting n what not?

Had this happen the other day and this is what I did. I rebooted the phone WHILE HOLDING THE VOLUME DOWN KEY. it boots into safe mode. While in there make a TiBu of your apps. Then boot into recovery and factory data/reset like 3 times, flash back to a ROM and restore your apps. This way you don't lose your stuff.

When I meant started over I was yes referring to the booting to recovery and then wiping/formatting everything, then reflashing a ROM. That works, but I just am nervous now because the issue persists no matter the ROM. Sometimes it takes a day or two or sometimes it happens even quicker than that. I think it might be Facebook so I am not installing that app again. Why FB works on my Nexus 7 tablet and my wife's phone just fine is beyond me.
I didn't know I can make a backup of systemui.apk and restore it to make it work. I wish we could find the main issue to begin with so we can resolve this once-and-for-all.

Yea I backup everything on my external hard drive (that after I back anything up I bubble wrap and put in my fire safe< a bit paranoid) every week, so that if anything happens I can just wipe it clean and start fresh (I have never used rsd lite but I'm guessing its somewhat like option one of Matt's utility) that restores your phone to a moto flashed like state... ready to be sold as a certified like new device (as Verizon would call it)...

Are you mounting system in TWRP, before you wipe data? For some reason, I stopped doing this when I updated to the newer TWRP. There was a thread on here where someone said they mounted prior to wiping and it solved their 4.3 issues. I tried it and it worked for me. I would suggest you try the same.

TBH, this isn't normal no matter what the situation. I would wipe caches and then factory default if that doesn't work. Android OS shouldn't use more than like 10 or 20 MB per week, hardly GB's of data. Unless you have an unlimited data plan I would do it quickly.

Well, I did both o those things yesterday. This is my data usage from 7 am to 5 pm today. Standard, nothing has changed :/
Root is using data? Should not occur, at least not in any significant amount... My best guess is you are infected with some kind of malware, possibly at the system level.
At this point I would wipe everything and reflash your rom or restore from a good TWRP backup.
What rom are you on and what root apps, like Xposed, do you have installed?

Sorry to ask again, I just want to clarify... you bought the phone new, allowed it to update via OTA, never unlocked the bootloader (and you can verify it has never been unlocked), never rooted, and never installed a custom ROM... You are completely stock and you did a full factory reset where you lost all your data and apps and had to start clean yesterday, and didn't install any apps (prior to testing for excessive data usage).
And you are still getting high data usage from an app called root?
I'm sorry to question you, but something is very wrong here, the behaviour sounds a lot like a virus or malware of somekind but since you have a locked bootloader, and took OTA's (meaning /system is clean), and did a factory reset that is highly unlikely. That leaves a pure software or modem firmware error or corruption, maybe, I'm guessing now...
Have you contacted Moto support or tried posting in Moto Support Forums yet?

It's an option that is part of Google in Lollipop and newer devices when you go through the initial setup wizard... you selected a device to restore data and apps from (it defaults to the most recent), and there is a spot you can tap to open a menu to select which apps (or all or none) to restore.
My point is, if your restoring apps there could be a malware or misbehaved app "hiding" in there, you need to verify it with no apps... or skip entering your Google account entirely. To disable FRP you will need to delete your Google account from the device prior to doing a factory reset.
well, its wierd because I have noticed this huge "root" data usage right after I bought the phone and I had back then only some basic apps from google so they should be safe...is there an app that could scan the phone for malwere or viruses?

The only other thing I would do is factory default, and do not setup Google account and test as it came out of the box... is the data usage still there? If so, it's not something you can do anything about and you should contact Moto. If it is gone, it's an app that is either purposely, or is misbehaving, that it doing it. Finding the culprit without root will be problematic at best, but if you root then your warranty is void.

ok, this is from today, details about this "root". not much, but maybe it means something, it never uses wi-fi, only mobile, and it has this wierd "chunks", like sudden big package download...(blue is mobile, green is wi-fi)
