I am not a noob when it comes to rooting and flashing a custom ROM on Android devices but I am having a hard time returning back to stock on my a500 with a hc boot loader. The reason I want to return back to stock is so I can sell the tablet
If anyone has a step by step guide or a link on how to do his, it would be greatly appreciated

this really should be in Q and A but if you're on the honeycomb bootloader just flash the 3.01 buggy.zip and you'll get an OTA updating you to ICS and ics bootloader...make sure to do all the wipes before

I just installed the Acer Recovery app and I am on a 3.0.1 hc boot loader...Where would I go to download the buggy.zip file or could I flash a 3.2.1 stock ROM and update via OTA?

Yep. via your file manager try the recovery trick
I've already seen a thread about that here but I can't find it quickly now. Anyway, you will need cwm recovery to revert back to Gingerbread from ICS because stock recovery won't allow you to do so.
EDIT : Here is the thread [Q] Downgrading Nexus S from ICS to Gingerbread.
EDIT 2 : If your phone is not unlocked you will need this to proceed... It looks like a pretty good and comprehensive tutorial to me Downgrade Nexus S from 4.0.3 To 2.3.6
You wanna go back to stock? Go on Peter Alfonso's web site. He has a stock rooted gwk74 zip you can just flash through cwm with a wipe.

yeah, just wipe then flash gb rom
Currently in the UK on ics 4.0.3 (initial release from Asus) and a firmware upgrade has just downloaded automatically. Should I upgrade ?
Edit: I am rooted with CWM will this upgrade take these away? Thanks for any help.

With cwm recovery it's not going to work.
I have cwm,so do I have to wait for some one to make a flashable zip

got it and installed fine for me in London.
zip to go back to stock recovery
Flash this in CWM to go back to stock recovery

No, I have the official upgrade from Asus (not a cwm flashable zip) but on my current stock ics rom I have cwm and root installed and my question is if I install this upgrade will it take away cwm and root??

I've already tried, installing recovery via apk from gnufabio, then recovery (the roach one) and that .zip... but it fails...
Someone can help me with the correct procedure please?
I also have the issue that myzine.apk is missing during the update in cwm although i'm sure it is there. Any ideas how to solve?

simple question. can i flash flexreaper rom with stock ics 4.0.3 recovery? or do i have to unlock bootloader and install custom recovery first? i have limited access to a pc and just got rooted this morning
You should be able to. Be sure to flash the honeycomb kernel parts immediately after flashing the ROM.

simple answer: no you cannot flash much of anything with the stock recovery.
If you want flexreaper then yes its best to flash the patched bootloader. Have the rom on yr sdcard ready to install once you've flashed the bootloader/custom recovery.
You can use the locked bootloader (3.01) with some of the flexreaper roms but be warned, its not the optimal solution. If you go this route you will need acer recovery installer to flash a custom recovery first.

No I never had the Hc uid I updated to ota straight out of the box. I have my current uid tho. it's not that I'm against flashing I just have limited access to a PC and to install programs and go through the whole process with someone elses PC is basically unreasonable.

yeh fair enough. I ran stock OTA ics for a month or so and was reasonably happy with it...civato's stock ics rom was better though...and as far as his flex series of roms go they are the absolute best!!

SO my N7 is rooted through Wugs tool, it has been great so far!
Now though, when I try to install the system update, my little android bot dies with an exclamation mark above him and I have to hard reboot.
Any ideas?
Probably because you now have a custom recovery instead of stock.

Thanks

My goal would be to update my N7, if for no other reason, than to stop getting pop ups every 10mins asking to install the update.
I am running WugFresh's toolkit 1.5.2, My tablet is running Jellybean 4.1.1 RO03C
An OTA update will not install or will not install correctly on a device that has been modified from stock.
But if your device has a custom recovery installed (flashed via Wugs) you can install a custom 4.2 ROM and you will have everything you would get from the OTA. The 4.2 stock rooted rom from scrosler is a good ROM to start with. Or use wugs to return to stock and take the OTA. Then from there you can root/ flash whatever you want to do.

thanks for this thread,
im in exactly the same position except havent clicked accept update yet and glad i havent lol
asked many times but always get mixed answer's about updating my rooted nexy with twrp recovery, i did use goo manager to update to the latest twrp recovery
so im not sure if i need to un-root to update as the new twrp is supposed to work with 4.2?

Hi, afraid if you've root on your device, more importantly, you have a custom recovery partition in your device, do not accept OTAs. This could permanently brick your Nexus 7. You may be able to temporarily "unroot" the device, removing the custom recovery and flashing back to full stock with stock recovery. Check your device's threads for any available guides.

you don't really need to go back to stock. when the ota becomes available, either here on xda or when it's available on your tablet, download it then install it through the recovery on your tablet. you'll lose root but just flash a root package and you're all done. i've done this before and no problems what so ever.

that's a custom rom or a modified stock rom. no one has got an ota for the 2012 nexus 7 and were the only nexus still to get 4.4.3 through ota. i'm also waiting but it's weird for there to be a gap from the other nexus's

I would recommend that one, as its basically rooted stock which is what you're currently running anyway. You can just wipe cache and dalvik cache in recovery and flash it, no need to wipe data (so your apps/settings/files will all be untouched). If there are any questions in recovery to flash stock recovery or fix root just answer no to both, my root was kept intact without having to reflash superSU. It saves waiting for the OTA (which still isn't here for some reason) and the risk of it failing/losing root/custom recovery for whatever reason.
As always just in case, make a full nandroid backup in recovery, then flash the ROM. You shouldn't have any problems. :good:

Thank you Sir!
Okay, correct me if I am wrong:
if OTA updates available, do not proceed to DL (over WIFI) and do not let tablet do the installation, as it might cause problem (brick?).
DL thru XDA install thru recovery instead. ( either in ZIP or .img? format).

You'll probaby get a status 7 error and the update won't apply, I would recommend the rooted stock based ROM you linked to above, quick and easy to update rather than waiting for an OTA and trying to update that way.
