I am not able to.
I can boot into recovery from the system menu, and I can boot into it from within apps...but not from within the bootloader.
In order to get to the recovery if I'm stuck i need to reflash (and boot) the recovery from fastboot
fastboot flash recovery ****.img
fastboot boot ****.img
I don't know about recovery by boot loader, but I believe the command to get into recovery is adb reboot recovery. You might have to use it from fast boot too

plug in via usb while in the bootloader, then press recovery. you should be able to get in then. its a bug that some are experiencing.
If you are not near a computer... there's an app for that.

allows you to boot directly to Recovery, bootloader etc... without an attached computer.
You can also use a terminal and do it from within the device, but this is just a simple button that works.

I had the same issue with my recovery. Everytime I tried to get into recovery via fastboot it was just showing the nexus logo and then freezing on that. I flashed CWM and now that was the only way I could get into it.
there are too many apps that do it. plus you can type reboot recovery in the terminal emulator.

Yes--thank you everyone...I am already aware of the many ways to get into recovery.
The issue is getting into recovery in a situation where you can't fully boot into android (boot loop, etc...)
In such cases, it is really nice to be able to select recovery from the bootloader.
However, right now I need to be near a computer so I can flash the recovery all over again

So, I got my Q unlocked, etc.
I am trying to boot into recovery mode, after I installed it via fastboot.
Every time I try and boot into recovery, CMD just sits there with "waiting on device" and never goes further.
Any ideas on what I should do?

when you boot into recovery does the q flash? when you spin it do you get google colors?
I have this sneaking that the q will automatically flash stock recovery back somehow. so the only way to really boot into recovery is "fastboot boot recovery.img"

I spent the better part of 5 hours fighting with it.
Something I learned, is that after flashing the recovery onto the q, restart the q and whatever shell you are using and go through the process of putting it into bootloader mode and then tell fastboot to boot into recovery. Every time I tried to boot into recovery after flashing it, it would never give me a screen.
Now I just need to get an otg cable so I can actually navigate...

For me it worked as.
Install recovery
Hold mute as if resetting.
Poof. Recovery.
Installed 4.4.1 via TWRP this morning, but it is stuck in reboot. Just keeps doing the colliding circles!
Tried rebooting a couple of times. Can get to fastboot, But device isn't seen by adb, and fastboot only shows start (no recovery option)
Any ideas at this point?

I would recommend flashing the 4.4 stock factory image from here in fastboot mode. Then once your device is booting up properly again I would recommend taking a look at this guide to properly install the 4.4.1 update.
You MUST either side load or safer still, un-root(if rooted) and flash stock recovery and sideload and then re-flash custom recovery and re-root if needed.
If you are able to get to fastboot:
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img ( use stock)
Fastboot reboot-bootloader
go into to stock recovery - wait for dead droid, one you see him, go into recovery by holding volume+ and power at same time
follow the orange instructions to sideload via adb - which should now work
reboot and validate all is well
reboot into bootloader and re-flash your custom recovery and root (if needed)

Thanks, I eventually got it. I was really puzzled that I couldn't select recovery from the bootloader. All set now though, thanks!
I hae also updated to 4.4.2 but now my N10 is stuck at the Google start page. Please help?

If you mean stuck at boot animation, then I suspect you used TWRP to flash?
I found that TWRP was not able to clear caches, so I use CWM instead. Worked like a champ...

No I used the adb sideload command for the OTA. That all went well but now I'm stuck at the google page even before the animations begin!

Hold volume up and power to get it to recycle, and immediately hold all three buttons down to get to bootloader. Try clearing your caches from recovery

Tried that already, still stuck at Google page before animations. Everything is stock on this tablet with root.

Hi,
Try flashing it fresh stock again, factory reset your device from recovery, download the stock image file from here, untar it, then unzip the zip inside the tar and you'll get some files (.img). Copy those files to your fastboot folder and then open a cmd there. (Guessing that you're using Windows)

fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash cache cache.img
If you're using Linux, do the same, but instead of only fastboot use:

Then boot it. I had the same problem when I updated mine to 4.4.1, but I did one thing a little different... Instead of fully "stocking" it again, I flashed back 4.3, flashed 4.4 OTA and then let it boot, without wiping my data, after all it was running like this before. Worked. But as I'm unsure of your situation I think it's more secure and easier to fully stock it again.

It usually occurs simply because it cannot boot into recovery. This may be due to accidentally wiping the recovery partition, thus having no recovery to boot to at all, or that you flashed an incompatible recovery onto your device.
Fret not, just a few simple commands should get your phone back alive and kicking.
First, download the recovery.img (ZE550KL) at https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6QXDUz9wzc9bUZaOHJsTzBhcVk
Then, boot your device into recovery mode.
Once done, type the command, in order,
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot oem reboot-recovery
Do take note that you would need to have ADB tools installed, a reliable connection to your computer, ASUS drivers in order for your device to be detected, and some knowledge on where to place the recovery.img in order for the commands above to work. If you need any help, please feel free to ask. Also, since you did not state the variant of your device, I had put the ZE550KL recovery.img instead. Thanks so much, this worked. I have a ze551ML but I had a stock recovery already on my drive. I've been trying to install the twrp recovery for the last two days but have been completely unable. Although the "fastboot oem reboot-recovery" failed as adb didn't recognize the OEM remote. Any idea why the most up to date twrp recovery has not worked in the least?

You need to unlock the bootloader first. There are plenty of guides online about how to do this, unofficial and officially. Also, there's a dedicated forum for your device variant, named "ASUS ZenFone 2"

Hey XDA, Recently installed Paranoid Android coming from Chroma and it's not stuck in a boot loop. I can boot just fine every time besides the annoying corruption google warning, but no matter how many times I try to install TWRP it just won't let me boot into recovery. I'm using WugFresh's NRT kit. Can't seem to figure it out. Any suggestions?

My suggestion is for you to fastboot flash the TWRP recovery image instead of using a toolkit. You cant see the inner workings of a toolkit and have no idea of what it is doing. The toolkit could be using the wrong commands to install a recovery image to your 6P. Go to www.twrp.me and search for the recovery image for your specific device and download the file. Next, rename the file to recovery.img Then, on your PC, navigate to the folder where you downloaded the TWRP image. Open a command prompt in that folder by pressing and holding the SHIFT KEY + RIGHT CLICK on your mouse and select OPEN A COMMAND WINDOW HERE. Boot to the bootloader on your device and connect it to your PC. Then type this:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Then type this:
fastboot reboot bootloader
fastboot reboot recovery
Here is the link to download TWRP for your Nexus 6P
This will reboot your device to TWRP
All of this is based on the assumption that you have a working ADB installation and unlocked the bootloader and have USB Debugging turned on in DEVELOPER OPTIONS.

Same thing, successful install and it won't open. Just shows the dead android when going to recovery.

You get the same results after fastboot flashing the TWRP image? I'd say your next step is to start fresh by fastboot flashing the factory images to return to a fully stock state. Then fastboot flash TWRP again.

After flashing boot into TWRP. I remember on previous devices that I owned that if you do not boot into the custom recovery after flashing it, you revert to the factory recovery.

I thought about that too. What is probably happening is his custom recovery is being patched by the ROM each time he boots into recovery. Thanks for picking up on that. I forgot to include that in my last post.

That's correct. After flashing TWRP the next step is reboot into the bootloader using the volume keys and power key , then from there boot into recovery using the volume keys and power key, then the phone can be rebooted from TWRP into Android and then after that TWRP should stick.
If the boot image is not patched, the ROM will overwrite TWRP once you reboot. flashing latest SU from TWRP will prevent this.
Thanks for all the replies guys! All the advice combined got it to work. I did some more research and found that Paranoid doesn't actually come preprooted like all the other roms I've been used to. So using the tool kit I just had it root it with the latest SuperSu and also flash a custom recovery. It has booted into TWRP no problems now a few times. Hopefully it will stay like this. Will keep everyone posted and appreciate the advice. Thanks XDA!
I followed this guide to root my Nexus 10, did the oem unlock, downloaded the linked version of TWRP and flashed it via fastboot, now it won't boot and I can't get into recovery mode, because the version of TWRP was apparently meant for the Nexus 7 aka Flo.
It starts booting normally, but the boot animation just seems to go on forever, I waited around 30 minutes for it to finish but it didn't.
I can get into fastboot mode, but can't change the boot option and I haven't been able to flash anything (doesn't show up with fastboot devices), Windows recognizes the device as "Gadget Serial".
Is there anything I can do?

Install the ADB drivers on your PC, and then use the command prompt to boot into recovery : adb reboot recovery

What? I can't boot into recovery mode because I flashed a recovery for the Nexus 7. And I can't use ADB because I can't boot into Android either.
Use WugFresh Nexus Root Toolkit. It's worked for me on tablets that could not get past the bootloader on their own.
