I've tried everything I could find with a google search but I haven't found anybody with a similar problem. I cannot boot into recovery mode as every time I select recovery mode I get sent back to the fastboot screen. I can use normal boot and my phone starts up fine but choosing recovery mode just brings me through an endless loop of going to the fastboot screen. Anybody know a way around this?

It usually occurs simply because it cannot boot into recovery. This may be due to accidentally wiping the recovery partition, thus having no recovery to boot to at all, or that you flashed an incompatible recovery onto your device.
Fret not, just a few simple commands should get your phone back alive and kicking.
First, download the recovery.img (ZE550KL) at https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6QXDUz9wzc9bUZaOHJsTzBhcVk
Then, boot your device into recovery mode.
Once done, type the command, in order,
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot oem reboot-recovery
Do take note that you would need to have ADB tools installed, a reliable connection to your computer, ASUS drivers in order for your device to be detected, and some knowledge on where to place the recovery.img in order for the commands above to work. If you need any help, please feel free to ask. Also, since you did not state the variant of your device, I had put the ZE550KL recovery.img instead. If your device is of another variant, please inform me immediately and I will get the recovery.img up for you.

Thanks so much, this worked. I have a ze551ML but I had a stock recovery already on my drive. I've been trying to install the twrp recovery for the last two days but have been completely unable. Although the "fastboot oem reboot-recovery" failed as adb didn't recognize the OEM remote. Any idea why the most up to date twrp recovery has not worked in the least?

You need to unlock the bootloader first. There are plenty of guides online about how to do this, unofficial and officially. Also, there's a dedicated forum for your device variant, named "ASUS ZenFone 2"

Turns out JB install 4.2, and when I walked back into the system had no root. Testing things there was no way rooting.
Install TWRP for rooting, but every time I went, I asked for a password that I have no idea what it is, because it had not put any odds. Reading things in XDA, I came across someone with the same problem and one of the answers they gave, was to make a full resete.
Here comes the dodgy, why should I ctrl-Del. Entering recovery functions (not TWRP), but the android, select WIPE DATA, and this whole ordeal began, now every time I try to access the Tablet jumps directly to TWRP recovery, although press volume - + power, appears asus logo then again TWRP, with which I can not even change anything for fastboot.
On the other hand the TWRP asking me the pass of m, cancel and then give no Rulan functions, not mounted, or system, or sccard.
Would appreciate any help, haaaa. I caggggggg

I have read the information, thank you very much.
The problem is that when I press volume - + power, I skipped TWRP directly, bypassing options android, fastboot to install.
And TWRP version 4.2, does not mount the external sd, which according to the info you sent me is a mistake, but I can not switch to the patched version, because as you said, the tablet jumps directly to TWRP.

While in twrp adb should be working. You might also go to the teamwin (twrp) site and read about adb sideload.
I do not know what happens, but adb mode does not work, the windows, does not recognize the tablet when connected.

Use the following to get adb working in twrp
go to device manager when in twrp and update drivers on the missing android usb there.

Normally you boot into fastboot and then issue the following commands from your pc where twrp.blob is the name of your recovery image:

It's what I do, from cmd, I like everything embers aperece correct, but the tablet is completely stop it, I have about an hour to give him time and nothing.
I tried the fastboot reboot command with the tablet and if it restarts, so I guess I'll have to keep trying until you can replace TWRP so you can install the room.

downloads lastest firmware in asus website ex..firmware Version TW_V10.6.1.8...extract the file with name blob...move that file to fastboot folder with the others 4 files....boot in recovery dont push vol up tablet is all ready in recovey (where you see the 3 icons) and flash with fastboot take several minutes that gonna taked to the factory state good luck.

Hello All,
I've been searching for hours. I had rooted my LG G2 weeks ago with no problems. I then un-rooted it and I thought reset it to factory. Today in Target I pulled it out of my pocket to make a call and it was black screened to Fastboot.
I have tried holding down Volume - and Power and entering recovery to reset to factory but it immediately goes to Fastboot loop.
I have tried holding down Volume + while plugging in USB for Download Mode but it immediately goes to Fastboot loop.
I have tried adb commands, error: device not found.
I have tried manually updating the Android drivers through Computer Management and selecting many of the Android Platform Sooner versions. My Win7 PC recognizes the phone as ADB Interface > Andriod Sooner Single ADB Interface in Device Manager.
I have tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2477595 and flashed both laf.img and I cannot get into Download Mode.
What else can I do? Does anyone have any other ideas?

hey same exact thing just happened to me. i had it rooted from earlier, but ended up keeping the stock rom on my AT&T LG G2 D800. What I think happened was ATT just pushed out an OTA update (not sure about other carriers), supposedly some small 15mb update to prepare for upcoming releases and despite declining the install, the phone of course did it anyways.
No recovery, no download mode, factory reset doesn't do anything.

If you can't get adb access with either single sooner or pdanet drivers, you may have to resort to this..

(actually kind of sounds like fun to me)
if you're stuck in fastboot mode then you can simply use the fastboot commands to write the aboot, sbl1, boot, recovery, laf, rpm, tz and dbi partitions.
you can substitute stock recovery.img for a properly patched twrp/cwm img (renamed recovery). from there you should be able to boot into download mode... custom recovery.. or boot back up.

I found a site that had the backed up D800 .img files. I had to use Ubuntu to write them back to my device.. after like 15hrs of googling/writing on forums, I finally got my device to boot back up! lol..
of course there was a popup saying that my device was suspected of rooting and it won't update.. but who cares, it works now!
im onthe verizon variant and stuff like this just annoys me to no end you say no lg pushes it to your device anyway its wrong not even samsung stoops this low i am glad i have a custom rom

Aim: To enter into Fastboot mode and Recovery Mode without problems
Situation: Recently installed TWRP Recovery in-app and through software, but when I try to enter in Fastboot Mode (HOLD POWER & VOLUMEUP) or even Recovery Mode (HOLD POWER & VOLUMEDOWN), I just end up in a hanged out ASUS Logo. I can't do anything except pulling out the battery myself and putting it back then booting the device through power button to boot it normally. I don't know if it's the problem with the model, or the phone's system itself, or it's just a bug, or a problem when I rooted my device through ADB.
(Note: When I rooted the device, I wasn't even able to see the blue "FASTBOOT MODE" when I tried it, I only saw the ASUS logo as well.)
For anyone who has any idea on what's going on with my device, please reply and help me. I really want to have the benefits of a rooted phone completly and I'm a new root user so I need assistance.
For anyone who has an idea on what I've done or on what should I do, please help me. Someone told me that I flashed the recovery and locked the bootloader, so it got damaged. If so, would Unlocking the Bootloader (from Wiki.CyanogenMod's Site) help my case?

I think I have "access" to TWRP recovery. However, I can only access it through booting it up from ADB. I used the command "adb reboot bootloader" to boot it to fastboot mode, however only the ASUS screen appears but I treated it as the fastboot mode itself. Then I checked if it was really on fastboot mode through "fastboot devices" and it showed my serial number. I can only enter into TWRP using "fastboot boot twrp.img" . I don't know if I already installed it because although I opened it, I can't do it from the phone (POWER+VOLUMEDOWN)

QFIL or AFT can be the solution.
I have a similar problem, a hard bricked Z00ED (ZE500KL) not able to get into fastboot or recovery.
after reading some thread here an there. that are Processor / Chipset specific flash tools that help flash bootloaders and repartition hard bricked device.
For mobiles with MediaTec devices, there is a tool called SP Flash Tool. I wasted a whole day with it. then understood that Z00ED (ZE500KL) has a Qualcomm Processor MSM8916
Therefore we need a Qualcomm Flasher here (QFIL )
But nos I am stuck with getting firmware for ZE500KL that can be used by QFIL tool, It should have a firehouse*.mbr file that is the programmer (dependent on CPU of the phone) and a rawprogram*.hex file that I don't know where to get from.

I've had my Essential two weeks i was on 8.1 beta.Today i unlocked the boot loader.Then installed twrp while in twrp i side loaded magisk.I went back to fastboot then hit start .The phone just went into a bootloop.I Was able to go back to twrp 2 times but now i can't get back to any type of recovery.I Can get back to fastboot mode ishow all the info and secure boot says yes and device state unlocked.My pc see essential phone fastboot in the device manager but i can't get adb to see it .Can anyone help me ?

looks like i skipped this part . Once you're in TWRP, install the stock boot image and then the Magisk/SuperSU zip.Is there anything i can do?

adb only works while phone is booted into system so nothing wrong there. If you're in the bootloader menu where you see that the status of your device is unlocked then you're already in fastboot mode. Just flash twrp again and the sideload stock 8.1 beta boot image (you can probably find it on xda), sideload magisk too. Go into install and press flash image file and find the stock boot image and then go into install again and change to flash .zip and flash magisk. After that, reboot into system.

When i try i get invalid file format. This is using a zip i got from Essential.
Stuck twrp says no os installed . But i did learn how to push files.

thanks been there tried the Oreo beta that is what i was on when i started and tried the 1st build before the betas i get an error on both i'll try to download them on another pc my phone does show up when i type fastboot devices now just need an os now .
Okay got back to 8.1 bootloader still unlocked twrp not install and i don't have root.I may just wait until P comes out.I'll try and learn more about adb. Thanks for your help Arju.

Hey I'm sure you'll get the hang of it before android P drops. you did figure out what went wrong all by yourself so get a hold of the right boot.img and the rest is exactly as how you did it in the first place but flash the boot.img before magisk. Let me know if you want to give it a dive again.

This is the closest thread i could find to what is happening to my PH-1.
Like videodave1 I 'was' running the latest stock 8.1 and have my bootloader unlocked. In trying to root the phone I did this:
flash boot flash boot twrp.img
adb shell twrp sideload
adb sideload magisk.zip
All installations went well, but when trying to reboot from twrp it forced me to install the app. After that the phone went into boot loop.
* Note how I didn't sideloaded the Oreo 8.1 image before magisk.
By pressing all 3 buttons I can get the phone to reboot and releasing the volume up I can get to Fastboot. Just volume down and power doesn't work.
The problem now is that adb and fastboot no longer recognise the phone. adb devices just gives an empty list and fastboot only shows < waiting for device >
Trying to go into Recovery mode doesn't work either. Power off doesn't work and Restart bootloader, well, restarts the bootloader.
It might be relevant to mention that I'm running adb and fastboot from Terminal in a Mac and that this is my very first and frustrated attempt to root any phone.

Even though your phone does not show up its there wipe everything.Fallow what Arju said in his post.I got back to stock then took the 8.1 update i'm not rooted but my bootloader is still unlocked.Oh make sure you unlock critical

I might be missing something hopefully obvious here. How can I flash twrp again if I my computer can't see the phone. With the USB phone plugged in and in the FastBoot screen I enter into Terminal:
fastboot flash boot twrp.img
and I get:
< waiting for any device >
How do I flash it from the FastBoot screen? BTW, going to Recovery mode just hangs at the Essential logo.

What you need to understand is that twrp will not stick after you flash it. This device does not have a recovery partition and that's why you replace the boot partition with twrp and while you're in twrp you need to flash the boot.img back and whatever mods on top of that such as kernel etc.. If you flash a rom then it will replace the twrp with the boot.img found in the rom zip.
So now we need the computer to recognize you device. Could you unplug the cable and change the usb port on you computer. connect your phone while you're in the bootloader menu where it says start on the top.
The use use fastboot command: fastboot devices
See if the computer recognizes you device.
I have been on a journey trying to go back to my T-Mobile OnePlus 6T back as my daily driver but the official updates killed the device for me. I have been successful in flashing it to the international version and now the device is on A9. I am trying to get it updated to A10 but in order do that (does not take OTA updates or can not flash within the updates app) I have to flash in recovery. Right now it is on stock recovery so I am trying to flash TWRP.
The problem is now that everytime I run the command " fastboot boot IMAGENAME.img" the phone restarts (as expected) and boots into fastboot but stays stuck in the Fastboot Mode screen.
I tried different TWRP images (older and the most current version per https://dl.twrp.me/fajita/ ) but I keep getting stuck in the Fastboot Mode screen. The last thing I was able to do without issues was unlock bootloader using fastboot.
I just need to be able to flash TWRP on the phone so I can still the final stock image so I can go back to using it as my DD.

You can try this version. Also try unplugging the USB after it reboots. You aren't getting any crash dump screen? So it should be working.

Tried your image and still same result. I am running following command

fastboot boot TWRP-3.6.1_11-OP6xT.img
The command window outputs the following

Booting OKAY [ 0.092s]
Finished. Total time: 0.860s
The phone then reboots into Fastboot Mode logo and stays stuck there. I even tried unplugging the USB after it reboots as well.
I even tried using the flash command instead of boot but no success.
How about fastboot boot recovery? Should be able to get into recovery somehow. Doing fastboot flash of twrp will mess up your boot partition but either way you still should be able to get into recovery somehow. There is the msm recovery tool you can use as last resort but it will relock your bootloader
Actually fastboot doesn't let you use boot recovery command I don't think. Only adb. But once you are in fastboot can't you choose to reboot recovery with volume keys?

I tried doing fastboot boot recovery but i get following error

When I am in fastboot mode, yes I can choose recovery but it takes me to the stock recovery. I do not have a option to flash any zip files there
Maybe you need a twrp for Android 9 since that's what you are on. But fastboot boot twrp should just take you there. Either have to find one that works or go msm route. Maybe windows not reading it correctly also. You using CMD or PowerShell?

I tried both CMD and PowerShell. I am going to try a A9 version of twrp
EDIT: I am using twrp-3.6.1_9-0-fajita.img (which I assume is for A9) and still get the same result. Even tried a different usb port.. not sure what i could be missing. I also did the instructions as advised straight from twrp's website.

Curious did you have the twrp file in same folder as adb and fastboot?

I tried different TWRP images (older and the most current version per https://dl.twrp.me/fajita/ ) but I keep getting stuck in the Fastboot Mode screen. The last thing I was able to do without issues was unlock bootloader using fastboot.
I just need to be able to flash TWRP on the phone so I can still the final stock image so I can go back to using it as my DD.
