[HOW TO] Barclays Mobile Banking working on rooted S3 - Galaxy S III General

I've seen a few threads asking if it is posible to get this working on a rooted S3 so thought I'd share how I got it running. This appears to ONLY work with Barclays apps!
Software Needed:
ES File Explorer (free from Play Store)
Barclays Mobile Banking / Pingit (also free from the Play Store)
Steps:
1: Open ES Explorer options and make sure you enable 'Up to Root' & 'Root Explorer'.
2: Navigate to '/system/xbin/' and long press on 'SU' and select 'Hide' from the menu.
NOTE: if you update the SuperSU binary, you will need to do step 2 again!
That's it! No more messing around. You don't need to touch anything else before or after you open the app like temp unroot/hide root. I dont know if Barclays can solve that with an update so I don't plan on updating the app. I'm not a coder and don't know a lot about the technical details of Android so if you run in to problems I can only TRY to help you.
Thanks.

Ive been using this for a few days now but just started having FC's.
I just re- enabled the permission and rebooted and it's working again.

Nice tip dude, will give this a try :thumbup:

I've just downloaded SkyGo and the app opens and I get to the TV guide and get the option to watch it of I sign in. I don't have Sky so can't test any further.
I'm assuming it checks for root when it opens so I'd class that as a success!
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium

Awesome thanks you legend

Did it work for you?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium

Done this earlier and it works for me! Thanks for sharing. God knows why Barclays do this!
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

Glad it works.
Did you do all the steps or just hide the su file?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium

I dont have this app. But tried for sky go.
I dont see Su as per step 4.
I also obviously skipped the first steps. But did do step 3.
Fyi. When u play a channel is when u get error for root.

Supersu.
Sky go has baffled many. They seem to have beaten us!
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium

Noooooo. Damn them!
I have no idea why I have an SU file in the xbin folder and you don't. Sorry. I'm no expert at this, I was just playing around and Barclays then worked.
I'm curious to find out if this method has worked for any other apps though.
And I'd like to know what has created the su file. Hmmmmm. Unless the Barclays app creates it somehow and references that for its root check.
Ha, can you tell I haven't got a clue what I'm talking about???

Im in the same boat. But fair play for giving it a go. Respect for getting it to work for barclays.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium

Just to add to this, i've got mine working but i did it slightly differently. Whenever i disabled the GET_TASKS control, i couldn't launch the barclays app at all. It would just hang at a black screen. So i couldn't do it that way. Try this to see if it works for you too. I'm using Omega v11.1, so don't know if that will make a difference or not.
1) Download Barclays Mobile Banking App and install
2) Download Root App Delete and install
3) Open Root App Delete, Go to SysApp tab, find Super SU and select Disable
After this point, i was able to open the banking app and link my account. It's currently working fine without issue for me

Hide my root works great on an Aussie banking app. Just hide su binary & su app then use the app. Once done restore both and that's it. And it does it in just a few seconds.

This method means you wont need to use any temporary unroot. I'll will always just work whenever you want to open it without messing about before and afterwards.

Yep. Found out it works as well if I just hide su app. That way I'm still rooted and all rooted apps still work. Can even leave it that way until an app that needs root gets updated. Then I need to unhide and grant it root access then can hide again.

I tried that even when I was using the Desire HD. I tried hiding and renaming su but it was always uneffective for me although I was reading people had good look with it.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium

Hide My Root doesn't work with the Barclays app

If you open ES then go to the options, scroll to the bottom and tick 'Root Explorer'. Have another look in the xbin folder and the su file should be there.

Ah I see. You can flash an insecure kernel from the dev section then use something like S2 root or Superoneclick to root again.
First step would be to confirm Rom Manager works with SGS2 .
Second step would be to read the post you rooted from the bit where it says Rom Manager does not work .
jje
Im pretty sure sgs2 isnt compatible. Sgs2 should use cwm app.

The best bit of advice you can take from this thread is this: dont use rom manager with the sgs2, tbh it seems to cause more problems that it solves.
Its not fully compatible.
Rather Use the cwm app that installs with chainfires cfroot kernel.

Flash fix including choppy netflix

So I found this somewhere weeks ago but can't find it again or else I would link to it.
Anyways, I posted this in the CM7 thread and someone asked for it to be its own thread, sooo here it is!
You can use any root explorer to navigate to the given directory, just make sure any options for hidden folders are enabled, or use a terminal emulator like already in CM7.
In terminal emulator first type "su" without quotes to gain super user access. From there type cd /data/data/com.android.browser/app_plugins/com.adobe.flashplayer/.macromedia/Flash_Player
The periods and capitols are essential, so don't mess those up.
If you get an error saying of can't cd to the whole directory path go a couple at a time and if you get lost type "ls" again without quotes and it will list the files and folders in the current folder. If nothing shows up do "ls -a" and it will list hidden folders as well (ie the .macromedia folder for instance).
Once in the final folder type "chmod 000 config.data" and verify it worked by typing "ls -l" where you should see all "-" for the config file.
Hope that helps and is clear enough.
I attached a screenshot of terminal emulator for a visual. Although I did break up the "cd" into two parts so you can see the entire directory path.

i tried to get to the directory a few different ways but I guess something is missing? Help?
I will point out that the directory doesn't show up until you try to run a flash video in the stock browser (or whatever browser you are using). If you use dolphin it is a different directory. Replace the "com.android.browser" with "mobi.mgeek.TunnyBrowser".

Ok, so I have tried watching vids in dolphin browser and stock and I still get no folder in data, and is the data on the root of my phone or on the SD card

It is in the phones internal storage, not the sdcard. It is data/data/mobi.mgeek.TunnyBrowser/app_plugins/com.adobe.flashplayer/.macromedia/Flash_Player/ The file is "config.data". You would have to try to play a flash video in the stock browser for it to show up in the directory that is in the op.

I managed to browse to /data/data/com.android.browser/app_plugins/com.adobe.flashplayer after that there is nothing, see below.I did play some flash to generate the folder but nothing . Anybody?

There's something in this particular config file that causes issues playing any flash video of 420p or higher.
Various other people had no problems when the 10.2 update came out but I did. 10.3 has the same config file, but that's when more people started having the sound but no video issue and this "fix" came about.
I wish I had a more definite answer but I just don't know.
On another note, if you fix permissions in rom manager or CWM this fix goes away and you'll need to go back in and redo the chmod.

It works perfect for me, except I'm missing that movies tab still.
Lost count of the amount of times I've uninstalled it to try to get it to work.

@Scratch0805, i just installed it, working fine and bit faster than version 3.1.6. But there is no movies tab here. I cleared all data of market and google services framework before installing and running this version(3.2.0). I think it is location based service.
Can't be location my phone has travelled the world today(market enabler) but still no joy.

LCD Density Changes and Results (With Pics)

While playing around with ROM Toolbox today I change the LCD density to 180 and found that everything looked much better on the tablet. In fact the status bar icons even changed to stock android. I would prefer to leave it like this except there is once thing that really I'd bugging me, the Remote Control app is all kinds of screwed up and bunched together after this mod. I currently have it at 200 dpi, but I don't like it as much and the remote is still not looking good. Screen Shots to follow.

180 DPI on Nova Launcher. There is a lot more screen real estate when it comes to text and pictures and such. I really enjoy this but as you can see when it comes to the remote, which I use often, its kind of a buzz kill.

Why not just set the remotes DPI separately? I don't know if the Xposed framework works on the XTZ but it and the module for changing each apps DPI individually would be worth a shot.

I'm not sure how compatible it is with the stock rom. Does anyone know of another way to get per app DPI, outside of paranoid android and such.

I am using Xposed on a full stock/rooted 311 here, works great.
Good to hear. I've had no experience with using it. How's the learning curve on it?

I've been using the Xposed framework for a while on other devices, but I don't think there is any learning curve. Just install the Xposed Installer, use it to install the framework, and install/activate the App Settings module, from there it is quite straight forward.

So i installed the apk and ran the install script... the first two times the tablet rebooted and nothing was different. I tried it again and now im getting a bootloop... kind of a downer :/
Don't EVER install Xposed on a device unless these 2 conditions are met:
1) Custom Recovery (CWM, TWRP) installed
2) Xposed-Disabler-CWM.zip has been put in the root directory of your SD card.
Only this way you can get out of possible bootloops.
So I basically have a really stylish $500 paper weight now?

Don't listen to people just saying you are doomed. Just flash your device back to stock using the Sony repair feature of PC Suite. I could tell you how to remove it if you can get root in an adb shell too

I'm not sure my PC truly recognizes it or not... I can hear it make the USB noise but I can't find it at all. Should I be putting it into a specific mode or just do this during the bootloop?

Just a heads up I managed to get it fixed with the PC companion. Bum deal that I have to start over but it could be worse. Thanks for the help everyone. Now I'm going to see if I can get xposed to work again without soft bricking it so we can get back to the topic at hand.

Thats ridiculous, this is the first time I have ever heard of a device having this serious of an issue with the Xposed framework.
All the Xposed framework is is an app that allows modules to change certain things on your device without having to manually edit things.

Let us know, I have used the Xposed framework sinve the day it was released and have never had any issues whatsoever. It is really the easiest way to change things on stock roms without having to flash.

So I am still having trouble installing xposed framework. It asks for super user permission and runs through the installnbut then the device reboots with no changes. When I try to run the app settings it says framework not installed. Any ideas?

Er... you do know that you also have to install the "App Settings" Xposed module, don't you?

Yeah its installed but when I try to initialize it I get a messadge that says the framework is not installed. Let me see if I can screenshot it.

Alright this is what im looking at after I supposedly installed the framework (Hit the button not just installing the apk.)
Here is the message I get when trying to initialize the app settings module.
My guess is that when I try to install the framework the tabket goes into read/ write mode. Apparently my tablet doesnt like this because whenever I try this in root browser or es file explorer the tablet reboots immediately with no changes post reboot. Im wondering if this is a problem with only mine or all xtz's.

What method did you use to acquire root? Which superuser app do you use?
I can assure you this works on my 311, as does mounting the system rw.
