Hi Every One, I just purchased the Dell streak 5 and I'm having confusion regarding its internal memory. Before purchasing this device i read over the internet that this device has internal memory of 16 G.B. But while going into the settings menu i found the available space is about 1.09 G.B.
I have already factory reset this device multiple times. So please i need some idea how do i verify this thing that my phone is showing the correct space.
The internal memory is a 2GB SD card which is not user-accessible without opening up the Streak, while the external SD card is 16GB. What you're seeing is fine.

so in another words if we remove the external S.D card then my TAB has only 2 G.B memory.????
Other devices have less than that (htc desire.....)
Yep. But why would you remove it?! And like pazi79 said, other devices released around the same time as the Streak have a lot less memory. I've never had a reason to use apps2sd or anything similar, and I've got over fifty apps installed! I'm sure there's people here with more apps than that too! So there's really no need to worry about it. The 2GB internal memory is enough for it's purpose.
Actually sometime i'm getting an error " Activity Dell Stage" not responding. I thought it maybe due to insufficient memory. or do you have any tip to
get rid from this error. Because last night when i was connected with my home Wifi using Google Earth, i want to exit the program but it didn't allow me to do so and after pressing the home button it gives me this above mentioned error.
I'll be great full if you can assist me.
Never really used Dell Stage, so can't really say. Why not try some other launcher instead? There's tons of them on the Play Store.
Best advice anyone here can give you is to stop whining and sit down and read ALL the sticky threads and get to know your Streak because you have a long way to go

you can try to replace that 2GB internal memory if you want... search in youtube. i did it to mine and no need to install any software. just plug in the new micro sd card and it'll re-install everything for you.
i replaced mine with 8GB class 4 card.
Android devices has a 2 types of storage.
First one is using for save android's own data and setup the applications. You cannot access here before you root your device.
2nd one is for yours and also for apllications extra installation datas.
At the dell streak 5. 2GB micro sd card which setup on mainboard, what you cannot seen before you depart your streak, uses as first type of data storage, for android it self.
And other 16GB micro sd card which you can seen when you open your streak5's back door is uses as 2nd type of data storage, for users own data and applications extra datas.
It means if you removes 16gb micro sd card. You doesn't have any free use storage on your streak. You can install several apps(because many of applications install at 1st type of storage, in this case 2gb micro sd) and also streak it self runs well, but applications needs extra datas(like games) or needs storage(like camera) can't run due to there is no storage for free use.

hey ya'll...
considering purchasing an 8gb memory card for my htc herald, have any of you tried this sucessfully??? the storage memory for the internal memory is not that great as you know and even things that you store in the memory card take up shortcut room in memory...what do you think?? are any of you running the phone on 4 GB memory stick? thanks ...
I have no problems running a cheap 8gb micro-sd from a no-name brand in my HTC P4350,
However, mine does feel a bit slower (yes its possible), since the upgrade from a 2gb card.
Ive been using a 8GB for about 6 months now and havent had ANYproblems with it. I actually had more problems with my old 1GB. It runs perfect!
i have the 8 gb card from amazon and i used it in my shadow and now my wing, its awesome, i keep all my phone supplies there and music, movies, vids, ebooks...keeps on going, lol its worth it, will be looking into the 16 gb soon just to be able to have an even bigger collection for on the go
I've got an 8gig Sandisk SDHC in my wing. No worries at all.
I've got an 8gig Sandisk SDHC in my HTC P4350. And it work´s nice with movies and music.
i've been using a 8gb card from kingston, don't pack it too full or else your phone will lag, i use it for mostly music and i find that when i fill it up all the way it gets a little corrupted
looking @ buy.com for the 16gb cards, 40 bucks...just needs to drop a little moer....
i got a sandisk 8gb loaded with movies, mp3s, ebooks basically everything and it runs smooth
yep..8gb is fine. slower than my 4gb, but not too bad

now using 16gb, no lag. works great
ok..sorry for disturbing the hype, but I need to post this:
I upgraded from 1 to 2 GB and now to 8gb..since then I encoutered issues:
First I copy and pasted everything from my 2gb card onto my 8gb SDHC class 2 card and everything run smoothly..but after some days I realised that all my pivtures I took were gone..than I saw that all folder were weired named--re-named...BUT it changed again and besides that the pixx were gone, all run ok again..
but now..since Yesterday..it is the same..folders re-named..pixx gone and my display says please insert storage-card, but it is included AND I can see the content via file explorer or active sync...its the same with the 2gb card..displays shows the "please insert screen" but I can access via onboard file explorer (fyi all folders are ok..not renamed on the 2gb card)
My idea is, that my simply copy and paste from 2gb to 8gb card was not the proper way to do it..or??
Can someone suggest how to manage this? I have no card reader and I havent found a way to format the 8gb card..to do the copy paste or whatever again..
Any ideas are appreciated!
I have 8, 8gb cards filled and use everyone of them and no problem at all
Did you try right-clicking on the storage card and re-formating it to deault thats what i had to do when i had that problem and havent had a problem since if that doesnt work then you will need to find a cheap usb card reader online....... and if that doesnt help let me know and i might have another solution to help you re-format it
hey phaze, right click within active sync does not allow "format" ..so i tought as well of the card reader thing..or where could I be able to use right click-format option?
do sdhc is correct to use for htc 4350? I hear dform mycard supplier that only sd is usable? so is that my mistake?
After upgrading to a 16gb external I was unhappy to find that most games and applications won't install on it, and yes I tried using apps2sd, to find after a few reboots the icons were dim (not valid) and the game data somehow disappeared. A 500mb game now turned into 32kb when uninstalling. This has happened to not only one game but many. Including Asphalt 6 and Nova. So what options do we have when installing large size games such as modern combat? Use the inbuilt 16gb? Mines already full.

Try a root app called force2sd found on the android market. Works on ALL apps
Is the sd card even legit? Also check for errors and completely reformat it.

Maybe something is wrong with your SD card. Mine Lexar 32GB Class 10 works fine.
Well, it could be worse...
In my case i had an old 2 Gb Samsung class 2 in my SGS2, and all apps installed on the INTERNAL SD (no room on the external, as i had filled it up with mp3's).
Then i bought a new Kingston 16 Gb class 4, and changed the 2 cards, and expected no problems - with the thought on that no apps were installed on the external SD - but... half of my apps were greyed out, and didn't work afterwards. To make things worse, i tryed to install the apps again form the market, only to find that it didn't repair the old apps, but installed new apps besides the broken apps. And i had difficulties deleting the old apps.
I changed the card some times on my old HTC, with no problems - but on this phone i will never do it again - i had a LOT of apps on my phone, and some of them bought outside the market, so i had to pay for some new downloads on that account.
Thank god that all my Gameloft games were not destroyed - even that they were installed in the internal SD.
Maybe i was just lucky on my old HTC, but this made me somewhat unsecure on the SGS2, and as written above - i will NOT change the card again.
Maybe someone can explain how the internal and the external SD-memory works together, in conjunction to my and fluidz problems with the external SD-card. It somehow seems that the external SD is connected with the internal SD, so that some apps depends on both to be installed - even if the apps is not moved to the external SD... ????
On my old Aspire one netbook, an external SD-card would be added to the internal SD-card that worked as an harddisk. So that the internal AND external SD worked as one harddisk all together. That gave the result, that if you unmounted the SD-card, the netbook was somewhat missing files, that was moved back and forth on the external SD (eg. it would mess it up, if you changed something or installed new programs, AND unmount the external SD afterwards). Is it the same on the SGS2????
I'm just trying to get a feel for how Samsung treats storage on their devices.
Do they consider the internal storage as both internal and SD Card storage on the device? So that \sdcard\ points to internal storage? Which would treat any inserted MicroSD like secondary storage that some programs might not use?
Or do they consider internal storage as only internal and \sdcard\ would only point to an inserted MicroSD?

They have internal SD (built in storage) and external SD.
External SD is not touched unless you indicate for it to be used specifically.
I like that Samsung continues to offer devices with a removable battery and MicroSD. This is a major factor for me.
I just wish the MicroSD could somehow be integrated with their internal storage. Since many apps may not be able to see the MicroSD. The apps would consider the internal storage to be SD space.

I'm using Data2SD with my Asus Transformer Infinity right now to have a 64GB data space (via SD card) and the internal 32GB as extra storage. I have not had to remove the card yet . And really even Data2Sd won't let me use the internal space on the device installing programs, just extra storage. But still its a good step.
Removing the card is not a concern, since I basically don't. If the card goes bad, rebuild things with a new card.
It would be great if the SGS4 gets a MOD like Data2SD. Then anyone who buys a 16GB version could get a 64GB MicroSD and turn it into a 64GB SGS4 . Same way we've turned our 32GB Asus Infinities into 64GB models, and our storage is even faster than the stock Asus internal storage  .
Oh, it's a good idea, it's soooo good .
I have a couple questions too if someone can please help:
1) What happens when you mount the device via USB. Can you mount either storage (internal or external sd)?
2) Can you easily place game files like GTA Vice City, music files, or Titanium/nandroid backups on the external?
Thanks!

1) they show up as separate drives
2) yes to. Everything except game files as the game would think you don't have the files and try to redownload them
My Yoga Book always says that my SD card is missing and I need to reinstall it. I install it as part of the internal storage, this might be the issue. I have gone through three different brands, Samsung microsd card does not work at all for me. Simply will not read, says it is incompatible. The other two work for about a couple hours but then I will reboot and sudenly it will not read and say it is not inserted, when it is. So frustrating. Also when the microsd card is unreadable, I have the second issue of the Book not coming back on after it sleeps or when the screen times out. To get the screen to come back on I have to take out the microsd card and the screen will come right on, but than says " the is no sd card, please insert." Any one else having this issue? I really want to like this little machine but it seems REALLY underbaked.
I have an idea of what is happening with my cards. I have a very good Samsung microsd but the machine first said "This card is too slow" !!! I set up the microsd card as "internal" storage not media storage. Well, the Book formats the card, uses it but on reboot it looses the card and says the card is either "not in" or, the card is "not compatible". So I try to reformat but the Book will not format it and neither will my PC or any other device. I keep getting that the micro sd card is now "write protected" or "cannot format raw data", so now I have two expensive micro sd cards that are completely useless and I am very very upset. I have one other card I can try to use in the Book and format it as "media" instead of "internal" but Im afraid it might raw format it too and Im stuck. AAARRGGHH. Any ideas on how to re-format these micro sd cards?
Hi! Any update regarding the issue? Would be really glad to know if you have resolved it as I am currently experiencing something similar with my Yoga Book (Windows). I have a 128GB microsd and sometimes it suddenly stops recognising it. I've never had the too slow error though. My card was formatted using NTFS.
Wondering whether the card tray design is bad, and if the card gets displaced when moving around. I'll try another card, and will update this post later.
Android must be formatted to fat32, although the best way is to format it in a Android device like your phone if needed. Not sure about your other issues. Is there an update from Lenovo maybe. My card reader is just fine. #knockonwood

Sadly I ended up buying a new microsd card. My two cards that I started with are still un accessible and useless. I format it to Fat32 and inserted into the YogaBook and designated the card as media. It's been working great ever since. Still annoyed that I am out $100 worth of micro SD cards
Good luck to you. I have the Android version.

Hi! (In my case) I think it was due to the "thickness" or dimensions of the microSD. I had one that was slightly thicker than the original card I was using for the Yoga Book. I swapped them, and haven't had any problem since then. Sorry to hear that you had to shell out another $100. That really sucks. Mine was sheer luck. (Thanks to the added "chunk.")
Hope this bit of info will be useful for other YB owners.
Unfortunately I can confirm that ;/
In my case I observed the same...
I have a model with windows. It's EXTREMELY slow! Generally, no just the SD card. Almost impossible to work on it. Lenovo sucks!
According to the SC slot I've tried many different SD cards and always the same... Time of copying 2GB file, calculated by windows, about 672 hours... Only...
This is my second computer from Lenovo, and the last one.
If you're migrating files, try doing small amounts and copy not cut and paste. Otherwise just take the card out and do it on a more robust pc.

I'm using an SD card and it seems to be running fine. Are you using it for something that needs regular access to your SD card? Like, installing Windows or a program on it? Because that will make transferring to and from the SD card very slow, or at least a lot slower than what it would usually be. The technology in the Yoga Book's SD card slot is old, so it can't handle stressful situations.
Hi, Thanks for your answers,
My main HD has 64GB, its not a lot of, so I thought about changing location of My Documents and all my files on the SD card. But after setting of paths to SD the computer froze due to it couldn't read SD fast enough.
So, I decided to move my personal folders back and tried to move files manually.
But the situation is the same :/
Don't you think that transferring of files on the another computer to SD card has no sens??
It is needed for me to move files from YB to another computer, so while I can't do it than the SD slot and whole Yoga Book is totally useless for me.
Do you think, guys, that it is possible to install Android on it?? There is a possibility to boot from the external USB-CD or just USB, but I couldn't find the Android version for YB.
Maybe with Android it will work??
Did someone of you tried to do it??
Thanks

I did delete Windows 10 and try install Android, however, I was not successful in getting it usable. So right now, Android is a no-go for those who have the Windows 10 version (although, you can install emulators that allow you to run Android apps). I usually try to minimise how many things I have on my Yoga Book - keeping apps to a minimum, and I've got my Downloads and Documents on my SD card and it's fine. Maybe your SD card is an old one?
Believe me, I've tried all possibilities, which came to my head
I bought three different SD cards (actually I have SanDisk Extreme microSDXC UHS-II, 128GB, formated in exFat) and nothing.
I tried also to run linux, and I noticed a small difference in relation to Win10, that in linux the copying process is pending all the time, while Win10 is breaking the process every time and ordering me remove the write protection.
Hi guys,
I found a solution!!!
I don't know why, but I created two 64GB partitions (almost, just 50% and 50%) on the card and formatted as a fat32 and.... Suddenly it works!
Thanks for your attention!
Has anyone tried the 200GB or 265GB micro SD cards yet? google search seems indicate that it might work but not able to get any concrete proof.

Yes, I use a Samsung 256GB micro SD card fine in my YB. Insert it and format it using the YB and it'll format it as FAT32. Only problem with that is I need to convert/compress my larger than 4GB movie files to something smaller.
thanks to PPC_Ed's confirmation, I ordered a 200GB drive and was able to get it working on my Yoga Book Android.

I bought a cheap 512GB sd card on eBay for less than $12 from China. I have stored tons of stuff on it. Downloaded a 1080p movie onto it using the adapter on my laptop and the lap top wanted to fix issues. It did, and everything still is fine. It actually might not be 512gb, but I have more than 200gb on it and it works fine - no speed issues at all. Android still reports 512gb total capacity (499 gb). I couldn't be happier with the $12 spent.
Hello,
I first used a San Disk 32 gb card to use as the adoptable storage. It worked until it reached around 3 gb and then said it had no more storage available. I recently tried a Kingston 4 gb sd card that worked beautifully with no app problems, etc. However, I quickly ran out of storage. I purchased a PNY 32 gb card that worked for about the first week. Now, many of the apps say there is a problem and won't open. Also, when I try to switch an app to the sd card, it say's there is no space available, even though I have used less than 4 gb. Could it be the brand of SD Card? Should I buy and try a 16 gb card? I would really appreciate any help or guidance in getting my Nook Tab 7 to work properly with at least a 16 gb card. Thanks!

The quality and speed of the card will make a difference.
Myself I use SanDisk - just remember there are different levels.
Give this a try. Auto-formatting SDcard Link
I was pointed to, and have been testing / using it for about a month now on this device. There are some glitches, at least on this device. Some apps will just not work or will disappear. Others will revert back to true internal storage on update. Device or App related not sure.
It's trial and error on what needs to be internal and sudo internal. Migrating data to external helps but, still some apps require true internal storage.
