what class is your sdcard? if its class2 or class4 those speeds could be normal. if its anything above, reformat your sdcard on your pc with fat32 and 32/64KB cluster size.

governors have nothing to do with sdcard i/o speed, not even i/o schedulers, because thats for the built-in rom, not the sdcard.

Try reformatting the card on a PC as FAT32 with high clusters, and copy on it something really big (build a 29-30 gb zipfile), then open it from the card and unzip it back to the PC. If that works, your card is a genuine 10 Class microsdhc.

Hey guys,
I have been running Android on my HD2 for a few months now using the stock 16gb class 2 and had no real issues. I purchased a Patriot 8gb class 4 to replace the stock because I need it for another device.
I have tried formating it 32kb and 64kb, default allocation size and nothing has worked. After transfering the android files and running haret a few minutes later I get stuck on the boot screen. I tried a fresh install of various android builds and keep having the same problem.
Can someone tell me the correct way to prep this card for my HD2 to run android? Maybe a utility or something.
Link to the card's product page: http://www.patriotmem.com/products/detailp.jsp?prodline=4&catid=16&prodgroupid=78&id=730&type=15
Thanks
Give SD Formatter a try in quick format mode.
http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter_3/
It formats FAT32 with 32kb sectors, and has worked well here with multiple class and size MircoSDHC cards. That said, 16GB Sandisk cards are cheap now. Maybe consider picking up another one and ditching the Patriot, if SD Formatter does not fix it up.
Best to all,
R

I'm sorry for you... That card is a junk! I also have that one and after many hours of frustrations end up buying sandisk 8gb class 4 for $15usd.
I have done all suggested ways to prep that card. If ever you will be able to boot, expect for minutes of lags.
I would recommend what has been said before, just re-format the SD Card.
I recently buy PNY 8GB SDHC card. Then I use it in my X8 running 2.2.1 FroyoBread. the problem is, sometimes the card stop working. when I play games, the game just stuck, and show FC messages. I restarted the phone, but same problem happens again. so I decided to do some test with the SD card. I got zero marks for SD card read/write speed in Antutu Benchmark. that means my SD card is not readable! I've tried to set sd card cache size to 2048, but I still can't get rid of the problem! anybody facing the same problem with their 8GB SD card?
No, im am using my 8GB SDHC card for a few months without any problems.

whats the brand then?
I´m using Kingston 8GB SDHC Class 4, and everything works, like playing games, file explorer and everything else that a sdcard can be used for.
I even set sd cache to 4096, and it works.
Try to install a newer version of FroyoBread, it should work on 0.18, 0.19 and 0.20.
Or install ponanovn´s latest version of miniCM, I´m currently using it and everything works.
Maybe try fully format.
I'm using a TOSHIBA 8Gb SDHC class 4 and I have never had this kind of problem...well, sometimes I had to format it because I couldn't download anything from market in CM6 ROMs...I suggest you a format from phone's settings...neither from recovery nor from pc...

thanks for the reply guys. maybe the problem is the SD Card itself. will try to find a new one today.

I'm using the same sd card from eBay and everything works fine.
A lot of custom ROMs out there for the Android utilizes Dark Tremor’s A2SD which of course enables you to store your apps and phone’s dalvik cache in the SD card and saves you more free memory for more apps.
This is good especially if you download lots of games to your phone.
Requirements:
SD card reader – since you need to connect your SD card to the PC.
A partitioning tool. – I suggest Partition Wizard by Mini-tool – http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html
How to partition the SD Card:
Connect your SD card to your PC and let Partition Wizard detect it.
Delete all your current partition in the SD card. Make sure to back up your files first.
Using the partition wizard, create a Fat32 filesystem. Make sure that it’s set as primary and has a 32kb cluster. Leave space for the ext4 partition. (if your SDcard’s size is 4gb, then just allocate around 3.4gb for the Fat32 parition.)
Using partition wizard, create a ext4 filesystem on the remaining unallocated parition of the SD card. It is advisable that you allocate 512mb for your ext4 partition.
Once done, you can now flash/install your custom Android ROMs that utilizes Darktremor’s Apps2SD.
PS: I wrote this because I always see people asking everywhere on how to partition their SD cards.
And what about this tutorial..?
Just use Search Button...

I admire you for searching that. I found that too. However, I'm getting tired of newbies asking around the threads and just getting that same answer.
That's why I wrote this. The intention of this is good. Don't spoil it.
Yes you are right...
For people is easier just ask a question than try to search answer by yourself...
Thanks this gonna help once i get the card reader xD

hey bro. maybe you could add some reasons why ext4 is better than ext2 or ext3. thanks!

do i really need a card reader? Is it not okay to just connect phone to PC with SD card in it?

Nope. Most SD cards will have a problem when flashed that way. So better use a card reader.
How do i know if the script is working? I've started A2SDGUI, but in the tab that should show me used and free space SD-EXT entry is the same as /cache, that is 24mb total (I've created 512mb ext4 partition).
Does the DT: Apps2SD work on gingerbread already? it has been the only thing stopping me from upgrading ever since couldn't stand that out of memory notification

It can be partitioned but not advisable if you use stock samsung 2gb class 2 for a2sd, yes a2sd will run but it may give you a poor phone performance. buy a class 4 atleast sd card.

Yes you can partition ext4 on your 8gb sd card, i recommend 1gb for ext4 if you play heavy games. BTW you can adjust the size of partition using minitool partition home, search the forum for link.

I guess micro SD 3.0 is the same as micro SDXC, so it is impossible to work on our ideos X5

So I've bought a 64gb SDXC card and filled it full of music. Tried it in the phone, and it was stuck on "Checking for errors". I then plugged it back into my computer, deleted the partition and plugged it straight back into the phone. No dice, same problem.
This is on stock 2.2.1, I will try on Aurora ICS and report back. So far it does not look good.
Try it with gingerbread first as it updates some stuff in the hardware

SDXC is very different than SDHC. There isn't any XC phone yet. Please use SDHC cards and please format it with your phone. You phone knows what is best because it's a smartphone which made by dumb company

yep, not because the phone cann't support it, but because the format SDHC only has a max of 32GB
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital
further all micro sdhc cards should work fine as far as I know/
edit: just found out that there does exist a SDHC card class 1 of 64GB, but probably it's best to take a card of max 32GB
So I've tried Aurora ICS, and it partially works. It only mounts if the phone is booted without usb connected and will not remount if it is unmounted. I can play video off the card, and the storage is correctly reported.

How did you format your card, FAT32 or NTFS ?
I did read on another forum that some persons had problems with mounting on there android device ( there cards were formatted FAT32 ) but after formating to NTFS it solved.
Else other people report that there SDXC works well on FAT32 , maybe you can try changing of what your current using and report what's your result?

first ext - if you want link2SD /app2SD give it some space, else the lowest value.
second swap - i'm using 64 mb swap, for very heavy games you need 256 mb
