Strict Return Policy: Tip. - Galaxy S III General

This simple guide is for those who live in counties where return policy is very strict. (Unlike US or Canada where you can play around with the unit for a week and then get your money back within X-number of days if you don't like it or whatever)
Most Asian country like here in the Philippines; you need a reason to do an exchange for a new unit.
This is a simple/short diagnostic list (taking no more than 10-15 minutes) that might be done to ensure the the quality of unit before buying; often done right in the store in front of the sale clerk before making a buy
Usually this is what i do: (please help if i forgot something)
1. Check for Telecommunication or something alike Seal (we have NTC-National Telecommunication Commission).
2. Visual Assessment of the unit. Check the edges and protruded area (eg.camera lens) for scratches or dent.
3. Check the accessories/enhancement for genuine authentication and functionalities (Charger, Headset, Data cable)
4. Turn on the phone and note the booting time, UI responsiveness and initial impression of performance.
5. Check/Ask for latest FW on your location.
6. Check screen for dead pixels and other defects.
7. Check display for touch sensitivity and multi-touch
8. Check the radios:
a.Wifi (inc. tethering)
b.NFC functions and features
c.Bluetooth
d.GPS
e.Data Connetion
f.FM
9. Check the Sensors:
a.Proximity sensor (usually done by dialing a contact and then place your palm on the upper part of the screen ad see if the screen turn-off).
b. Gyrosensors (Gaming gestures).
10. Check the Camera front/back and LED flash. (Try taking pix and videos)
11. Check the Loudspeaker, earpiece and mic (usually done by making a call).
12. Check the removable/moving parts (Battery cover and physical buttons) and capacitive buttons.
Hope this help.

Most of the fakes do not have a 5mp camera.
Another thing I have noticed on the fakes: The zoombar either does not work, or controls volume, so if you can see the volume symbols instead of the magnifying glass with a + or -, then it is fake
I read someone's else thread and he was trying to update to offical windows mobile 6.5 and it wouldn't work, and then he realized his was a fake.
He says fake fake fake don't bother guys, i just realised that the phone I got is a fine fake after diamond 2.... sorry for the trouble and people who want to buy diamond2, be very carefull.... it looks identical, windows is the same etc
the link is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=627222
I guess it's really hard to tell, by the software if its fake
Genuine or Non-genuine: How to tell.
ABOUT THE BOX & ITS CONTENTS
The non-genuine packing box is approximately 1 centimeter thinner because it does not contain the User Manual. Presumably it is too expensive for the producers of counterfeit phones to produce the 232 page User Manual. (see below)
There must be a serial number sticker on the base of the box and a number of duplicate stickers within the box. These are generally omitted with counterfeit phones.
The box should but does usually not contain the following:-
The HTC Care pamphlet.
An individual Microsoft Windows 6 License number affixed to a small sheet of paper with instructions for synchronizing the phone.
The HTC multi-language Warranty Statement.
The HTC Smart Accessories Smart performance pamphlet.
Screen protector pack (2 sheets)
Spare stylus (1 or 3 pack).
Leather phone pocket or case.
Two FULL SIZED genuine HTC CDs.
A 232 page User Manual.
The Getting started booklet. For T5353 models this is normally written in English. I do not know about other models.
A genuine earphone/headset. On a genuine HTC headset, the moulding extends beyond the earplug in a short square spur. The non-genuine earphones moulding is rounded at the point where the housing joins the round earplug.
A genuine phone wall charger in two parts. The genuine charger is a long rectangular base unit designed to accept the smaller adapter supplied which has the appropriate pins for connection to the supply in the destination country. The non-genuine charger is usually a cheap one piece charger.
ON THE PHONE ITSELF:
Writing near the camera on back of the genuine phone is silver grey, but on the non-genuine phone is white.
The front camera of the non-genuine phone is set approximately 2mm lower and 1mm further to the right than on the genuine phone.
The letters hTC just to the left of the speaker is slightly larger on the non-genuine phone than on the genuine phone.
On the side of the phone to one side of the volume control are the words hTC INNOVATION. On the genuine phone these words appear in fine silver grey lettering. On the counterfeit phone the lettering is smaller and it is black.
On the top of the phone the symbol for the on/off switch is also much less clearly defined, the switch button is shorter on the counterfeit phone and as with the volume control button, it is glossy chrome rather than self coloured as on the genuine phone.
On the base of the phone, the counterfeit phone has a smaller USB symbol, a significantly larger “dot” and a larger and more blocky earphone symbol.
The symbols on control keys for the genuine phone are fine and clear. Those on the non-genuine phone are less well defined and slightly more blocky.
The "Home" symbol, below the end key is considerably more blocky and less well defined on the counterfeit phone.
The tail on the "+" sign for the image enlarger, immediately below the screen, points slightly more to the vertical on the counterfeit phone than it does on the genuine phone.
PERFORMANCE MATTERS THAT REQUIRE INITIALIZATION OF THE PHONE
Camera on the non-genuine phone is usually a low quality camera which does not take 5MP images.
The Photo Zoom area below the screen usually does not zoom images and often zooms the volume instead.
None of the phones I have tested could be hard reset.
The counterfeit phone generally cannot be upgraded to Windows 6.5 because (a) the serial number is not valid which prevents downloading of the required ROM flash from HTC and/or
(b) the phone cannot be flashed with the necessary updated ROM. This may be because the phone cannot be hard reset, a requirement for the ROM flashing process, but even in the rare event that a hard reset is possible the upgrade usually fails for other reasons.
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT AN EXHAUSTIVE LIST.

Hardware help needed...

Hi everyone.
Seems this forum has at least a couple of people taking their Prophete apart (as I do) and collecting some hardware know-how.
I have two Prophetes (XDA Neos to be correct) with different problems.
I start with the history (how it comes) and will end with what I know know and where I do not get any further currently:
Prophete #1:
5 years old from O2 germany contract, G4 device (Rom versions to be posted on request, device is at home...). Was broken twice (no booting any more) during warranty and the got wet when I was hiking only with a shirt in a thunderstorm. No warranty of course, but device dead ;-( And nobody would repair it - not even for money. Pissed off from O2, but whatever...
So I found here somewhere the Maintenance Manual and disassembled the thing, dried everything and had to buy a new battery and since then it more or less works fine. The battery I was able to re-animate by charging with Laboratory power supply - The Prophete seems to go dead below a certain voltage and does not even try to charge the batt any more...
For a while I had strange illumination effects - screen fixed very bright with one half even brighter and bad color contrast - possible to work, but ugly. This disappeared slowly after 2 more years...
Then I had this well-known dead speaker-thing (dirt in headset socket) - also long time ago repaired.
But now (over the last 2 years, increasing lately a lot) I have this strange scratching noise on the main speaker. It was supposed to be a bad speaker why I bought on ebay a defective second Prophete (to be discussed below) and switched speakers - booth are fine in #2 but scratching in #1. The trick with some cardboard under the speaker cover also does not work reliably and not at all in last months.
What I found last time I took the device apart is: when I leave a finger nail thick gap between the front cover and the housing frame in the lower half of the device, then everything is fine. But that is unsatisfactory to work with a semi-disassambled phone!
I guess, it has to do with some hair-break in a connection on the mainboard or something with the contacts between the different boards (spring contacts for grounding?) or with the headphone socket.
DOES ANYONE HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH THAT SCRATCHING NOISE and can help? Where should I search?
Device #2:
Bought 1 year ago as broken. Has a crack in the touch screen, but the screen responds fine and precise all the way down to < 1mm from the crack. After cleaning the screen and the front cover, the device started to work again (touch was inop. when I got the thing).
WLAN is dead. BT seems to work.
GSM did work fine. So the device got my wifes new mobile phone. And after 3 months it started to refuse contact to any GSM network.
If I search for networks, it lists all the providers around in germany, but when I have it connect to one, it times out. So I think the Radio (GSM) system is still working (at least receiving network names, tuning right frequencies etc.), but not correctly.
I did reflash the radio ROM, but no success so far.
Sometimes after cold boot, the telephone app in general and the settings specifically are very irresponsive (long answer time, complete WM crash, whjatever). Thus I consider reflashing the entire device.
Q:
- what are good radio and WM(best: 6.1 GER) ROMs to try? (No flashing experience so far)
- what are typical GSM and WLAN failure mechanisms of the Prophetes (bad solder points, bad spring contacts etc.) - i.e. where to look?
I could even consider a "make 1 good out of 2 broke" - action - but I am afraid, that booth devices have a somehow mainboard-located problem.
Thanks for any helpful comments!
Torsten
thats easy men...just take out the LCD from prophet 1, and also Put to Prophet 2.
search in youtube for prophet disassembling...take care
ps: check The LCD Code (some prophet make different LCD)

[Q] Nexus 4 Screen Replacement issue

My phone took a dive and hit the pavement pretty hard, leaving a half-inch radius arc on the side of the scree. No big deal, but this damage also killed about 25% of the touch sensor surface in a very inconvenient location. So I did what any other good fellow would do: order an OEM part from Ebay.
I installed the screen with much effort (having taken apart phones before it was not difficult to identify and remove the elements, save for that nasty screen) and turned the device on. Imagine my surprise when I saw that my once beautiful Nexus display was reduced to an upsetting mess of artifacts and pixels.
Key notes to consider:
1. The touch screen works 100%, which kind of makes this problem "tolerable"
2. The artifacts shift with each menu and orientatikn, but remain oddly in similar positions in each screen (the artifacts appear in the same location on the home screen no matter what other screen I come from.)
3. Videos are not affected by this (tested on youtube in landscape view)
These primary factors lead me to believe that there is a problem with the software communicating with the hardware. I have checked and re-checked the cables and made sure they are in the right spot and securely connected. My main question is foes anyone have any idea how to resolve this? Do lcd/ digitizers come with any covers on the ports that I may have overlooked? Do I need to re-flash a rom and/or return to stock altogether?
I have done two teardowns to test all the connections, and have abstained from using glues in the event that I may have to do another. Included is an image of my screen taken from another phone.

Buying a Used Samsung Note 4 - Any suggestions?

Hello,
I am going to be buying a used Samsung Note 4, specifically: N910W8.
Is there anything specific I should look for in terms of functionality, or common issues this device might have?
Thanks

There are no common issues with the phone. However if you are buying used phone you have to look for these things:
Fist of all, if someone is selling his/her phone, find out the reason why selling, there might be 2 reasons, faulty phone or he/she is upgrading his/her phone.
Phone's Condition --> external condition (such as screen has scratches or side scratches etc.)
Camera: Check Camera is working fine - both front & back ( take some pictures)
Sensors: Check phone's sensor is working, some of the phone's sensors sometimes not working. For Screen / Sensor and other software related functionalities you can dial this number and check sensor, phone's color and screen, if broken internally or not. (*#0*#) - dial this from Samsung phone dialer.
Check Speakers are working fine, make call and check both the speakers.
Regarding Software related: it depends upon the ROM, which ROM you are running on your phone. If stock ROM, phone should be working fine, if he has ROOTED his phone and running custom ROM, then you will find some bugs in custom ROMS.
There are no such software related issues with all Note Series, they are awesome phone.
[*]Also, check if phone is repaired before or not ( you can open the back panel (battery door) and check the screws, if they have scratches then phone was opened and repaired.
Battery: Check the battery, I will tell you the procedure: take out the battery and put it on table & rotate it clockwise or anticlockwise, if it's not rotating, means battery is OK, if continuously rotating, it means battery dead, or about to dead, you need to replace it.
This is what I knew, & I have shared with you.
Good Luck!

test it with a sim and sdcard both inserted.
some note 4's may seem fine, but will suffer freezes, crashes, reboots, and boot failures when both cards are inserted because the motherboard is dying.
make sure you swipe it completely so you don't get busted with somebody else's dirty/illegal porn LOL

Review smartwatch intex irist: intex sloppy brand

Official website for this model: http://www.intex.in/smartwearables/smartwatch/i-rist/
Buy smartwatch intex irist black in mediamarkt.
I had to change it several times. Firstly because it is impossible to navigate in Google Maps or any other, secondly because two of the clocks were already badly manufactured: one with the tactile screwed and another that did not light.
When he was resigned to not being able to use the point-to-point navigation, it turns out that the camera is damaged. Forced shutdown with any photo testing app.
Here comes the odyssey with the SAT, which by the way is in Spain.
I send the clock and they tell me that they proceed to the repair, that they have to wait for them to send a piece to them. After almost two months and give them a notice they send me back the clock. Surprise! It turns out it's not mine, has a gmail account of another person and a huge rayon.
I can be picked up about two weeks later, after three times, so that one day the collection will be made and no one will be presented that day.
Without prior notice they deliver a package. I think my watch is finally repaired ... Surprise again! It is a new one but orange.
After days to email basis and two calls tell me to send me a black this time, but there is no stock of that color and have no idea how long it will take.
Of my old watch and its repair not a word, so I assume that they have lost it.
In short 3 months without a clock what I have left. Luckily the SAT is in Spain.
After using three watches of this model I can say as pros and cons:
CONS:
- Bugs or failures recognized by the technical service itself:
*. Unable to disable automatic screen rotation
*. Spontaneous ignition of the screen: according to the SAT is a bug that occurs when you lose coverage, and the solution they give is that you only use the 2g when you pass. Take it now!
*- The battery percentage indicator is often not updated. It can mark you an i says when it really is much lower. The problem is that when you think that you have more than half the battery, it starts to fall as fast as it sometimes does not give you time to turn it off before it stays at 0. Derived from this is the problem That many times the battery is completely discharged, making it after a while lose much durability. SAT solution: send another charger, which is useless.
- Very low volume: it is possible that in a noisy street you have to stick the loudspeaker to the ear to hear a call.
- The price: expensive for what it offers and compared with others who give the same for 100-125 euros.
- GPS and Navigation: Tested on three watches of this model. As I said impossible to navigate point to point. As soon as you turn or change direction you will be "looking for a signal". The GPS signal as soon as you put it on the wrist low. It is spectacular to see how low the satellite reception (using the Gps test app looks), and see how it comes back up as soon as you take it off:
http://youtu.be/IFKA-eWrLtY
- In summer with these silicone straps and what the watch warms up, when you are using it for a while, it can be very uncomfortable to use it.
- Framing with the camera is very difficult task and more if we consider that the screen rotates and you can not remove the rotation
- Support: null. They just got an update.
- Software included: painful. It is best to take away almost all the apps you carry and replace them with others.
- Flimsy buttons: they give the impression that they will not last more than a year.
PROS:
- Accurate touch.
- The screen looks great, the resolution is more than enough for such a device.
- The use of apps has no problems: you can install and work well Whatsapp, gmail, youtube, etc. Only some have problems because they do not fit the small size of the screen.
- The screen is true that it withstands scratches and blows.
- The possibility of putting a 32GB card, makes me have almost all my discography in the wrist.
Conclusion: I do not recommend it at all. It is much more expensive than other equal options. The only advantage was the guarantee of being able to buy it in a physical store and have a technical service in Spain. Once the warranty of the store is finished, you are sold.
It is significant that in Mediamarkt once they disposed of the stock did not replace units again. In the end I confessed to a salesman who had been returned a lot for a lot of bugs.
I have no experience with other Intex products, nor do I want to have it. A brand that draws such a great deal of product from me does not offer me any security. And I say that it is a mi ** da because you can not get a device with recognized faults, then not fix them with updates, and also know that a high percentage of devices are already going out with factory defects. In short, my opinion of intex is that it is a brand that can be attributed the qualification of Chinese, "in the worst sense of the term, in the sense that it seems that they do not have minimum standards of quality.
