Ok... Here's the deal. I actually have signal but its extremely weak.
IN THE HOUSE ( BEFORE: always signal 3-4bars, NOW: basically no signal) .
OUTSIDE (BEFORE: full bars, NOW : 2-3 bars with an occasional 1 bar)
DRIVING (BEFORE: basically full bars, NOW: fluctuates 4 to 1 bars with various dead spots, which is very uncommon)
Does this sound like a hardware problem, radio rom issue, or something i am completely unaware of?
Im also noticing that my phone is the only device that does not pick up the Wifi signal in the house?
UPDATE: No signal in the house or outside? Data connection is ON.
If i go to SETTINGS then go to MOBILE NETWORKS, it shows that DATA ENABLED is checked.
it could also be a radio problem? try the above solution, if not then we'l proceed in trying to help.
Data Connection is on, BUT no signal reception inside and , now , even outisde the house. No matter what changes i make in "Mobile Networks", nothing changes there. Wifi scanning in the house is non existant but works in commercial settings that have an open source.

You say before and after, but you don't say before and after what. Did you change radio, change ROM, change bootloader etc.? Or has it just randomly started happening?
referring to 7/5/12 and 7/6/12 to now.
Things ive done:
Problem started on previous rom. (coredroid) so i figured i would change roms and radio roms.
installed radio rom 2.15. but with rom change and radio change, still had current problem.
As of yesterday evening it would work somewhat consist when i was outside, but signal fluctuated alot.
The minute i got back into the house, i would lose complete signal. (very very rarely would it get a limited signal)
And today, i have only had signal one time. None outside. Is there a recommended radio rom i should install?
Or is it simply the sim card needing replaced due to abrasion on it. (one is being shipped now)
Trouble shooting #2
Swapped out the sim card and placed in my HD Desire and signal is fine on the HD Desire.
But still highly limited signal when the sim card is placed in the HD2. (basically no signal)
What can the problem be? Faulty antenna? Hardware issue?

Recently my Vario II intermittenly loses network signals, it says No Network and I have to toggle phone off/on to make it search for signal again. This only happens when I'm at home (Charlton SE7 area).

Flash HardSPL first, then upgrade your radio.
Ive linked to my guides incase your unfamiliar with the process.
The newer radio should possibly increase your GSM efficiency. Are you in a decent area for reception?

Hi, many thanks for your detailed guides. I've upgraded Radio to 1.38.00.10 but the problem still persists. I'm in a very good coverage area, always get full bars 3G when it works. Soft-reset my phone and now it's searching in vain for network signal, I'm confused
What operator are you with ? Maybe the cell where you live is getting overloaded. We had a problem similiar to this last month when our local base station had a problem. Our work-around was to disable 3G but not using a Hermes . Apparently the handset tries to register using the 'best' data-bearer its configured for. So disabling 3G made it register with GPRS which worked fine. They then fixed the base station and we were able to re-enable 3G. I would
guess Charlton would have a lot of subscribers per cell. You would expect the coverage to be better in a built-up areas but who knows. Maybe an enquiry/ complaint to the operator would at least tell you if they know of a problem and if its temporary or longer term
Cheers for that. I'm with T-Mobile. What's bugging me is that this signal disappearance only happens sometimes. It's not that I don't have 3G (or signal for that matter) at all, I still get full 3G signals fine most of the time. But you probably were right, looks like it's a fault from the operator's cell in the area, I will give them a call next week to see if there's an explanation.
I've noticed this problem when I'm in the south London area (very general I know). People have got around the issue temporarily by forcing the phone to GPRS only
More problems! After upgrading to 1.38 and trying all sort of "good" radios like 1.17, 1.27, 1.34 I can't make/receive calls unless GSM is forced. There must be something wrong within my immediate area because with the same radios everything works flawless just 10 mins down the road. I just called TMob and there's no technical fault or anything from their side. I will just have to put up without 3G until the problem fixes itself
There are lots of people complaining about 3g on T mobile in UK. They seem to have serious issues with Hermes devices and the dropdown to GSM.
I had a problem six months ago with my hermes on orange at home in SW London. For a few weeks it was mucking about - I rang O who advised me that they were experiencing some local issues but would fix them within days. I switched to GSM for a few days. When I switched back its worked fine for last five months.
3G gone mad!
the same thing was happening to me. Full 3G reception in Leicester, tried to connect to get my e-mails and then the signal totally goes. The same thing happens when I make calls as well. Switched to GSM and everything worked. Now in York and everything is working on 3G.
Network is T-Mobile.
This sounds similar to the issues I am having.
Do you get the phone hanging as it attempts to start a call and then after a while a message stating that it was unable to connect?....sometimes resulting in a soft reset to bring the device back online? In my case toggling bluetooth will reset the connection.
I am with T-Mobile in Glasgow but get the same issues during the day in Edinburgh
No 3G

No mine doesn't say anything, it sounds "ding ding" after a few secs like when you press the hang up button. I can use the Internet but anything to do with calls is just impossible. I've switch to GSM now and everything's back to normal. A bit annoying can't use 3G at home.
I had purchased a second hand o2 xda neo. It had wm 5 on it . I updates it with wm 6.1 roms available here.I find that the gsm reception is very poor inside my home.I dont know whether this happened after the update. In my office it is quite good. Even when I am outside i have no problem. Only in my home the signal is very weak. can this be corrected by some registry tweaks or some software. or is it a hardware problem. and if so can i get it repaired. pls help...
what rom are you using and what radio was recommended for use with it. Sounds like a radio issue to me but plz tell me rom and radio. you can experiment using different radios found on the wiki to see whatworks best.
you can flash different radios without loosing data on the device.
I have tried with 2.19, 2.47, 2.69 roms. but no effect. I am trying today 2.07 let me see if that helps. Does IPL/SPL effect the singnal strength?
mmm it might be just one of those things, in that there is interferance within your house (my house is made from granite so reception is very poor), if recpetion is good elsewhere it is unlikely to be radio.
Is there 3G network there? The quality of service on 3G can be unpredictable at best of times.
Signal is not effected by IPL/SPL to my knowledge.
The results of 2.07.20 radio rom. It shows good signal but i feel that it does not update it when the signal is poor. In my office signal is good. So it showed full strength. I went home. There too it showed full strength. when i did soft rest to clear my doubt the signal was poor as in previous roms. Do you think that the antenna has some problem. Can it be replaced. i find an opening above the mirror( near the camers lens) for car antenna. Can this help? if so how?. 3G network is not available in my country(INDIA)
hey,
i think u might have to accept that the signal is just crap in your house... a bummer i know, but if youve tried various radios and signal is good elsewhere, it cant be the internal ariel.
have u tried flashing another rom, more recent build?
Not sure it will help but you never know... at the end of the day, signal is never constant in any one place.
But friend. The signal is good in other phones. If the signal is crap then it should affect other phones too.
I should have also said that the signal is never constant betwenn too phones in the same place. It depends on antenna hardware and the location of it, like signal is reduced whislt making a call if you place your hand and fingers in the wrong place.
I think it unlikely that is a hardware issue if your signal is fine in other areas. Sorry my friend i dont know what else to suggest having tried radios and roms.
The prophet is getting a little long in the tooth now, so be time for an update?
I have trying to use the HD2 over the last 3 days and getting real problems with intermittent signal loss.
I know i have low signal from the mobile operator in some parts of my home but that has never been a problem with other HTC phones i used before. If the signal was too weak it would just drop out but come back if i moved a bit.
With the HD2 once the signal indicator turns red it stays that way even if i move to a strong signal area.
The weird thing is sometimes i would leave the phone sitting in one place with four bars and then minutes later it would show up with no signal and i can't receive calls.
Even stranger is that in all these cases where there is no apparent signal, all i need to do is press the send button to try making a call and the signal "magically" re-appears and all is fine. I've tried at least four differnt radios as well as the energy ROM ... no change.
Any ideas ? this is reaallly frustrating!!!!!!
do the problems resemble what I experienced here?:

change radio ROM, well experiment with several of them by trial and error (read the sticky/tutorial first).
OR
buy an indoor signal booster.
Well, regardless of the radio version ive had really odd intermitant service.
the best way ive found to help this is turn off 3G / HSDPA
Doing this forces the device to remain on GPRS, it means the battery lasts a hell of a lot longer and it doent drop the connection every time the device feels like trying to connect with HSDPA or drops it for no apparent reason.

it seem that you were losing data connection .... i'm a lot worse off ... i lose data AND voice .. all connectivity ... so i don't receive calls
as i said the weird thing is as soon as press send to initiate a call, cthe signal bars come back and everything works fine!!
as i said, stop 3G from working, when switching between the two due to what ever reason the HD2 decides to drop it will kill your connection, voice and all until it switches back. there is an issue with 3G and im wondering if its everyone or just folk using TMOUS radio and thus recieving the extra RAM
To disable 3G/HSDPA to test,
Open Comm Manager and click on Phone (not the on/off switch) to go to phone options. Scroll to bottom and select BAND. Switch network type from Auto to GSM.
3G/HSDPA is only needed for internet surfing. Time, weather, stock updates and email downloads don't really benefit from it. So turning it off this way will make these type data connections go through the EDGE network which is plenty fast enough for it. When you need to surf the net, go back and switch it to Auto and you will get 3G or faster speeds for that.

hello im having the same problem..no voice or data i push my send button an then i get signal,my wife has a hd7 and my son has a hd2 they will have 3 to 4 bars and i show no signal.push talk and i get 1 to 2 bars.
have you found a fix?
You could always try a signal booster on eBay for like 5...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
If its just 3G then its probable just T-Mobile or then again a Hardware/Firmware issue
try a different ROM, Radio
I have this same issue I running a T-Mobile USA (using radio 2.12 but then again it was doing it on 2.15 as well) and it just drops all connectivity and says no service I have to search the network again.
My phone is unlocked I don't know if that might have anything to do with it as well
I've had this problem on my HD2 since i got it.
Edge (E), works but slow as all get out. 2-4s ping times or time outs. 3G (and when i say 3G i mean when it says 3G in the status bar) doesn't work at all. HSDPA (H) works great, WHEN it stays that way, which it doesn't.
It can switch between 3G to H every 10 seconds.
And i'm using it for tethering primarily, which makes working painful. Lose your VPN and SSH sessions constantly. Some days it's ok. But most, horrible. btw, i'm in the Denver area.
I've tried stock roms and custom roms (primarily Energy). All radios. Nothing fixes it!
This is the only thing I don't like about my HD2 and/or t-mobile. And it's a whopper. I'm almost ready to get another phone or carrier, depending on what's causing this.

I have 4 HD2's with one having the problem you describe and have come to the conclusion it's a hardware issue. Probably a cold solder joint on the antenna lead.
In WinMo or Android the signal bars jump all over the place but the signal level in 'about phone' shows a constant signal even though the bars show nothing. I don't drop to many calls but miss more than a few incoming. I travel for 5-8 hrs in the same area everyday and very familiar of good and bad areas of reception. I have tried stock/cooked ROM's/Radio's with no noticeable difference.
I'll probably send mine in to HTC to be looked at.
It looks totally weird. I have been having issue with wifi for last few weeks. Tried almost everything. Changed ROMs (different stock versions and several customs). Did a sdcard install, task 29, tested at least 6 radios including the latest one but still no luck.
The wifi signal strength is erratic, most of the time it is very weak (I see low signal strength bar in the Signal strength (RSSI) tab in WLAN ). Has to be about 4 or 5 feet of the router to get connected. But sometime it is fine and can connect to the wifi with no problem (I see full strength bar in the Signal strength (RSSI) tab of WLAN). I checked this at home and at school (where there is a campus wide wifi network so I am in fact checking at different access point), but the wifi performance remain erratic. I even reformatted my sd card. Still no improvement.
I then took out the SD card and bingo the wifi signal jumped back to full strength. When I insert it back, sometime the signal strength remains intact but sometimes it falls and wifi is disconnected.
Basically, the siginal strength remains good and strong when SD card is not inserted and wifi connection is erratic and unpredictable with SD card in the phone.
I used another SD card (a 2GB), reformatted in the phone, but the erratic behavior returns, so it does not seem to be a SD card issue too.
I am completely baffled by the behavior of the phone. Has anybody experienced this or if you are having issue with wifi signal strength can you check if the wifi strength jumps back to normal when you dismount the sd card? It may be an erratic behavior of my unit but may be it could be a design flaw.
Please share your experience, since there seem to be a lot of folks with wifi strength issue, a complete cataloguing of the phone behavior will provide enough information to the smart people in this forum to help us.
thanks
Contact T-mo (or whatever provider you have) andtelll them you are having issues with your phone. Maybe try to get a replacement msd card too?
Almost seems like you have a motherboard problem. I'd bet its a bad connection/solder joint. The pressure when the card is inserted may loosen up things. It get relieved when the card is out. Just offering a suggestion - I get decent reception - not great but I can go all over the house and outside about 50 or more feet and the reception/speed is fine (card in or out).
I have a dLink DIR-655 (n band enabled) and I get about 1/2 signal strengh throughout the house (three floors) (wood/fibre cement construction). Only get max reception in the same room or near router.

Thanks everybody for your input. It was connectors to the wifi antenna coming loose.
Finally solved it. Opened up the unit and seated all the cables properly. Also raised the copper spring connectors a bit so that when the phone back is snapped in place, the antenna and motherboard are properly connected.

I have HTC desire HD for almost one month but from time to time it loose data connection. If it would drop from 3g to EDGE or even GPRS than I would understand. But it loose signal completely and even restarting phone doesnt help. I am using Android Revolution HD 1.4 ROM.. After few hours I get reception back. Any idea how to figure out where is a problem? I am afraid that is problem hw problem anyone experienced same problem? My old HTC Touch Diamond with same SIM and on same location gets signal though. BTW telephone signal strenght is 91 dBm 11asu and it says type of mobile network: HSDPA
thanks
if it software i think the only thing you could do is flash another radio img to fix it but that's a very risky process to do and high chance you can brick your phone. if you always had the problem from very start and had another 3g phone work in same location. i would say it has to be hardware problem an take your phone back from were you got it or send it to HTC to get repaired. im in u.k an i get around the same signal strength as you but never lose signal all together unless in location i can't get a signal. only other thing you could check is your battery cover as someone mentioned if that's not on right you lose signal?? don't know how right that is.
