Anyone notice that after installing 2.2 (with the new radio) that the signal strength bars are wacky?
I can go from 3 bars to 0 bars and back in a few seconds while my phone says -100 in network status...
Also, I had a much higher signal strength in pre-OTA, and the leaked OTA than I do in 2.2... (At least if I track the number). This morning I had the phone off charger where before the update I had two bars and a -80 strength. Post update, 0 bars and -102 strength and under Cell Standby it had 80% signal loss....

I have been hearing that the 2.2 leaked rom is bad on battery. This is why.

So far I am seeing better signal reliability than before. I am in an area outside of Seattle... Good signal most everywhere but I work in a building so usually got 1, maybe 2 bars of 1x. Now it is showing 2-3 bars of EV and my data connection is faster at my desk.
I did a *228, option 2 directly after loading the updated ROM.
And no idea who said 2.2 was bad on battery but I am seeing the opposite. Been playing with my phone all day, a LOT more so than normal and still over 80% charge. Usually at about 60% by now with not nearly as much use.
Agreed, I have been downloading apps, using Nexus live wallpaper, browsing internet, texting, took a video and using the HTC Flashlight as well as arranging my home screen all day. Not plugged it in once since 06:56 and I'm at 49%. This is unheard of for me on this phone.
((Admit I did the charge trick when I woke up though))
My dbm is about the same as it was before, but the signal bars are much more accurate and do not fluctuate like the OP states. I was using SkyRaider1.9b but now I just got the new radio and installed leaked OTA. We'll see about battery tomorrow.... 2.2 (no 2.x radio) in skyraider was better than 2.1 Eclair as far as battery. We'll see how 2.2 stock leak OTA works on battery. Give that a few days and then try SkyRaider 2.0.
I'm also pretty excited to see what CM6 turns out like once everything is sorted out.
Anyone else noticing also if edge has a stronger signal, phone will drop h and go to edge? ! I have 2 bars h and my phone will change to e aka edge that has 3-4 bars...
I've installed the rocketfish toggle to force 4g, anyone else noticed same thing in their service area?!?
Aloha from Hawaii!
This only happens to me if my 4G signal gets exceptionally low, like 1 to 0 bars. Then the phone will roll back to EDGE to still maintain a signal. Otherwise at 2+ bars this does not happen to me.
Edge will almost always have a better signal than 3g. Especially because of the freq that tmo uses. They use 1.9ghz for edge compared to 2.1ghz for 3g. Higher the freq the more power needed for same distance and less penetration
I just got a S5. Its an upgrade from a S3. The signal on it sucks. I know you cant trust the bars shown. I went into settings and compared the two. Both phones were in the exact same location.
The S5 = -101 dBm 39 asu
The S3 = -88 dBm 52 asu
If I root the S5, would playing around with the modem files help?
I've noticed that around my house my S7 Edge shows very few bars on the signal strength indicator but as soon as a call connects it jumps to full bars/strength. I'm assuming this is a feature to save batter life right?
Meh. Don't read too much into signal bars.

Does anyone else get low cell reception on 4g and 3g? My 4g cell is around -107dbm with 35asu with 2 bars. Would only having 2 bars drain my battery? My 3g is even worse, although my previous OPO had nearly full 3g signal.
Is this a samsung hardware problem? Saerching around on Google seems like a lot of folks had problems with cell reception on their S6 too
Thanks
