is it my screen or the ROM?

hi everyone, this is my first official post on the forums, and well i need ur help on my phone, for some reason when i slide my phone the screen shows like random lines etc, then when i slide it back it does the same, and itll take like a good 30 mins to get the screen right to its proper look, usually itll show like blue, or green, and even sometimes i get that "White Screen" where id see it everytime i slide or slide it back so idk, and even when i soft reset, either the screen is out of line or itll show those random lines again also to add to that sometimes the soft keys on the front dont work at times soo idk if its the ROM i just put in which was from T-Mobile or my screen :/.....i need ur help, cuz i might consider getting the screen replace or load the bootloader....appreciate the help and btw heres my video i just posted to give a good clearance of what im talking about and when i show the phone up close im fiddling with the power button to show how it is, thnx

im sure its the rom, i used pdaviet's rom and it did that ****. i replaced it with a different rom and it never did it again.

well i just redid everything and EVEN on the bootloader still had the whacky look on the screen...

ok well i put the old rom, the one that came with when i first got it, and still no luck....could it be a faulty screen connection? or the screen dying? and btw the phone has a real irritating noise.... and also on bootup he screen wont be aligned....idk what to do...

God..... Vital information you didnt put in... if you hear the noise, then its a goner. it prolly has a leaky capacitor, or the screen is some how desoldered and shorting out the board.

well whats the best bet? should i get this repaired as soon as possible???? or get a new one? and doubt bout the second reason, cuz the noise stops when my screen is off(of course) and sometimes when its in portrait mode, ya the screen would be on and would be white but none of that hating noise

Screen Burn In

I don't know if anyone else has ever had this problem but when out in the sun ( I think this is the only time to actually see it) I can see a burn in of the previous view. One example is sliding the app drawer up then sliding it back down I can see the apps and a thick bar that is the app tab sliding down. I am using the T-Mobile G1 and am wondering if this is a hardware problem or something else.

i noticed this too, i on't believe it is an issue and i don't think we can fix it. the only time i see it when i get my recommended daily dosage of sunlight wich is about 15 minutes, the rest of the time i am in a dark room in a basement on my computer

i get the same thing.. only with mine I can see it when the device is turned off... recently its been overheating so i'm hoping TMO UK will switch it

I usually see it right when i force the device off (pull battery or Call+Menu+End reboot) for about 5 seconds and then it goes away. I'm not sure if my phone's behavior is normal and yours is messed up or what but something is amiss somewhere

I guess it's simply the way these LCD screen is updated. You don't really get 1ns response time with these small screens. They may even been designed this way to save power.
If you watch carefully, you may see the screen slowly fade away when you turn off the phone.

Yeah I tried it and you're probably right ( not sure how it saves power) but it does fade away after I turn it off.

is there any solution to "screen can't switch on"?

at the begining , my HD is fine.
But , after 2month , the phone has some rotation problem( it doesn;t matter, as you can solve it by pressing the on/off buttom )
But now, the phone's screen can't switch on, when i touch the four buttom on the surface of phone, it still vibrate..just i can't switch on the screen"
i have already tried all the things like take out the battery, press the reset buttom... the problem still occur,
Screen can sometime turn on luckily~
but, if the phone's screen is switched off for a while, the problem still occur..
can any professional heal my phone?

Obvious questions: Have you tried a hard reset?, Diff rom? Have you loaded up anything weird that mighta casued issues? If it will do a hard reset then do it. Start from scratch. If it works then be mindful of what you reload it with. If that doesn't get it, try a diff rom. At this point you got nothing to lose. Will it go into bootloader mode?
Battery comes to mind also. Have you run it down to nothing? Sometimes that will affect the charging capabilities. When the screen is dark can you still hear sound? Def do the HR.

My suggestion would be, to give the HD to your reseller and get it fixed.
I have had the same problem, and as my HD also didn't connect to my PC anymore, I send it in, and got a brand new one, because they couldn't fix it. Make a backup while you can, because the problem will get worse over time.

Likashing, the same exact thing started to happen to me a couple days ago. I've hard reset and flashed a new ROM. It seems that the problem is intermittent. After I just let the phone sit for a few minutes, the screen will come back on. It makes me wonder if this is heat-related issue. Anyway, I'm screwed, because I have no warranty since I bought it from a guy in Australia (I'm in US and needed the T8285).
I'll definitely be keeping an eye here to see if there's any resolution other than repair.

while the screen does not turn on, have you maybe tried to use another phone to call your HD and check if the screen turns on when the call arrives?
maybe if the screen turns on it's more a software related issue (so hardreset et cetera might be worth a try), if not, i fear it's hardware

Good point crashDebug... I will definitely try that the next time the behavior is exhibited (right now is one of those times where I can't intentionally duplicate the issue... of course!)

...i have no warranty too....
in Taiwan , there are couple of people have these situation, the maintenance staff working Htc, said that it is a motherboard problem or the screen problem...but i wonder that why only few people have this problem. My phone is completely fine before i flash the HSPl1.56OLINEX.but when i try to flash back to Hspl 1.4 , the problem still happen.....

i have tried diff rom and diff HSPL....
sometimes, the phone's screen still can turn on luckily, then i can go to bootloader mode, but if the phone sit for a while, the phone's screen can't turn on...then i can't get into bootloader. ..
i can hear sound when someone phone me...but the screen still keep dark!

Exactly same problem here
HTC purchased in Sweden.
Cant switch screen on, when incoming calls come it rings but no screen alive. Vibration when pressing the buttons at bottom. And the low battery sound i can here when low on battery.
When connecting it to charger the orange light at power button will not light up (orange) as usually.
My problems started when i had the HTC in my jacket pocket, a VERY rainy day, so the phone was moist OBS not wet. Thats what i beleive ghappened to my phone.
And now i can not find the purchase receipt to the phone

It might be entirely unrelated, but the screen on my THD also had the same problems immediately after a few flights from coast to upcountry 1800m elevation during summer. The system powered up but the display remained off, and no amount of fiddling would switch it on.
The first time it took a few hours and then spontaneously corrected itself. The second time I had to remove the battery for two days, and then all was fine again. Only happened after flights from coast in summer. It hasn't happened again, but then it's winter here in the southern hemisphere.
I suspect condensation, but that's only a guess...

I've sent mine in for service. Haven't got it back yet but I understand the motherboard needs to be replaced.
In short, this is definitely a hardware problem and if you look around the discussions on the net, this is slowly becoming quite a common problem with HD.

Yes exactly, I have had the upside down screen too! Well at the very least it is good to know that people are experiencing this problem other than me. I love this phone so I will have to pay to for the repair. If anyone here has any idea or estimate of what this will cost, please share this here.

The problem for me was the moist, after three days it started to react again... And now it seems to be working...
I guess the air up in the mountains are moist... maybe...

So then that's two people so far (including AFW from the first page) who have said that after some situations involving moisture have passed, things are back in working order. I hope for the same to happen soon.

I doubt it is related to water. My device never gets near water or moisture and still experience this problem. I do wonder if it is heat related as the device can get quite hot during charging and perhaps cause the motherboard to play up after a while.
btw, does any of you use some sort of plastic/silicone cover. I wonder whether this type of cover blocks the heat from dispersing.

As i understand it, so far only people who have flashed a different ROM (and with it maybe radios) to their device. If it's a heat issue it could be something to do with the radio version. I have tried different radios and there was one in particular that heated my phone up like crazy while i was listening to music without the screen on (but i don't recall which one it was).

I only used stock rom and never flash my device and still have problem...

I do not have any type of cover on mine.
I agree with the possibility of it being a heat issue though.

Very perplexing. This past weekend I again travelled from Joburg to the coast (from 1800m elevation to sea level), and again the THD screen stopped responding to input whilst at the coast. I desperately fiddled, reflashed, hard reset at least 10 times to see if I could get the screen to work, but it always booted up locked, and no amount of fiddling would do anything. I even put the thing on an oil heater for a few hours, hoping that if condensation was the culprit (my current theory) then a goodly dose of heat would at least evaporate any moisture, and once, for about a minute the screen responded, and then again went dead to touch. I had to use another phone all weekend. This evening, on returning to Joburg, I resolved to get another device, maybe the Diamond 2. After a few hours back home I retrieved the THD, put in the SIM and, lo and behold, it worked fine. This is most vexing, but I fear the THD will have to go -- I just can't live with this unreliability. Sad, really, because I love the big display, I love the fact that guys like Throy are cooking good ROMs. In many ways the THD is about the best out there, at least for my needs. But that &@&* thing has to be reliable.

[Q] Digitalizer broke itself?

Ive read similar situation in the forum, but most people state or they will send it cause it is on warranty (mine isnt) or they will get a new digitalizer from ebay or something close then try to fix it.
But my case seems a little bit different, i didnt drop it, i didnt get it wet, i didnt do anything and nothing happened to it!
I was playing bejeweled before bedtime and when i stopped as always i layed it at my night stand without any problems. Next day i woke up ( i use an old phone in offline mode as my alarm clock thank god) and just grabbed it as always and without hitting anything just went down the stairs, and when im at the street i wanna listen to some music and when i tried to use it, it seems the screen is not aligned, he recognizes my touch, but everything seems out of place (touch wise).
So thinking it could only be a rom problem i did task29 and reinstalled another rom, and nothing changed, then i tried a different rom from a different cook and it doesnt skip the alignment screen at first, but then i repeatadly (but gently) tapped many times in the crosses then it managed to get to the phone, but i cant just use it.
Btw the bottom buttons (phone call, home, back) dont work either, only end call sometimes works.
How can a digitalizer brake from night to morning alone?-_- Any thoughts?

"Jerky" / not accurate screen (video inside)

Anyone has this problem? When I put my finger on the touchscreen, screen moves up and down like crazy. It gets worse when I move my finger to the side of the screen.
I tried different roms, different kernels, nothing fix this.
Only when using the touchsentivity app and changing the value to any value and clicking apply makes this behaviour disappear for a moment.... after locking the phone and awake it, same thing happens again.
It drives me crazy because I always put my finger on the screen when reading something.. or in some apps or games when I need my finger stay on the screen it gets annoying. .

This isn't normal. If you can't solve this problem with a factory reset, get your phone exchanged or repaired.

That's what my HD2 used to do. Couldn't type anything on it to save my life. Think I'm gonna have to check my SG2 now I've seen your vid.

Thats probably because the custom kernel your using has a different value for it and the app is setting up 5, try it with a stock kernel and perform a factory reset and see if the issue still occurs w/o changing the TSP value.

I got the same problem. I do that sometimes too.. scrolling up and read while holding my finger down, it just jitters or something.
You're not the only one, but not sure how widespread this problem is or if it is normal or not..

Mine is also jerking when holding the finger out at the edge lol, looks retarded

Interesting...so if I disable the touchscreen fix the problem goes away. If I reinstall it, no matter what the settings are, I get the jittering effect at the very corner of the screen.

Yep I got same problem, when reading and holding down on the screen it does the same.
On Litening Rom 1.5 cant remember if it happened on stock rom though

I get this too, my SGS did it as well.

I tried this multiple times on the edge and it does not jitter at least on the phone that I have.

Mine did this when it was plugged into the mains (using a non-samsung) charger. Does not do it when plugged in via USB or on battery.

So how has this worked out for you? I have this too but just a little bit less. It also stops for me when plugged in. I wen't back to the store with it but saw that the shop model had the problem too so I decided to not return it. How about you?

I checked and it appers that i have i too. Didnt notice it till now.
It is occuring only on the left side when holding my finger.

I did not notice it too...and yes, mine is "Jerky" too...

Mine is fine, so looks faulty to me.

weird left side
I have to say this happens to me too but only when at the VERY edge of the screen,on the left.
There is something very weird about the left side of the phone.
1. the touch issue
2. the yellow tint
3. the glass is more raised than the right side(check it out) its like there is less bezel showing on the lower left part of the phone than the right side. I've checked 3 s2s and they all had it.

I have this all over the screen but not as bad as on the left side. Could someone install note everything and make a paint note with the smallest brush. Then try to make some straight lines (without the phone being connected to the a/c). Draw them really slowly from the left to the right. Mine usually jumps 1 pixel up and/or down and is a bit wavy (which isn't normal for touchscreen phones cause I tried the same thing on my friend's optimus 2x and the lines where as straight as could be). Maybe if you guys make a screenshot (home button+lock button) we could compare them and see if there is really a problem with specific phones or with the Galaxy line in general.

This was something I noticed when I first got the phone, if I kept my finger on while browsing, it would "shake" and be extremely annoying. Same thing happens when you hold an application in the left corner of the screen.
If my phone is charging, the problem is gone! It's smooth, and doesn't "shake".
Soon as the charger is removed problem is back
Going to return this tomorrow and see if they'll exchange it.

Just another 'my phone is red, yellow screen thread'. Does it affect your day to day usage? If it does,i too is concerned.if not, then what's the point in looking for non measure issues? This issue was up like 4 months ago and now, back. Y'all just return your phones and close annoying threads.
