Hey guys, just starting a poll to determine which Jellybean ROM is used the most (currently). Which ROM do you like the best? This poll will be between these 5:
- AOKP Jellybean >>> link is here: http://androtransfer.com/?developer=AOKP&folder=vibrantmtd (not on XDA, so I posted it.) >> Sixstringsg
- DerTeufeul1980's CM10 (Hellybean)
- RemICS Jellybean for Vibrant by Patrick
- CM10 Skankwich by Makelegs
- Slimbean by Krarvind
- CM10 nightly by FaultException
- BlackBean >> B-boy
- Paranoid Android [CM10 Hybrid] >> Jrong1
- MIUI v4.1 -(2.9.4) (PORT) >> GeEazy
- KingSoft Beta1 >> King Soft
- Chimera 3.0.0 >> Nelson Giordano >>> Available on Team Passion website
Any others that I missed, I will add. If there are any issues with me posting this, message me and I will fix it ASAP. Thank you.
I will also delete ROMs that are no longer in development. WOW we have a lot of ROMs available for Vibrant.
Hi, sorry guys, can't edit the poll but as time moves along I will update the list.
Aokp is VERY slow right now. So far hellybean is the fastest
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app
I havent tried AOKP yet, but from all the posts about how laggy it is, I think you're correct Guess Ill wait a for a few releases, then try it out. I like Hellybean, but for some reason, its a little bit laggy for me compared to CM10 Alpha Preview by FaultException. I think Ill flash the latest kernel and see if that helps.
I am using Hellybean right now it's defiantly fast however I do notice the camera doesn't work with it.... initially when I flashed it it worked when I switched from camcorder to camera then the app pretty much crashes
Can't say that I've tried the others but I know that Jellybro is working for me. Camera is very reliable and all functions seem to be just fine. I occasionally get higher battery drain due to some process keeping the phone in an "awake" state - can't reliably fix that. Overall, pretty responsive and the fact that it seems to "just work" for all the functions I need it to, I'll take it for now.
Only concern for these ROMs is the 911 issue on Vibrant/T-Mobile...
I'm currently using CM10 Jellybro by makelegs. I love it but my battery life sucks right now...:crying:
I haven't quite figured that one out yet.
i'm running jelllybro and it works really well, no random crashes or anything...just its slow!!!
wanna play with it a bit more, maybe try the subzero kernel and see how that works out.
i should give some examples on slow...i use arabic and english for the keyboard...and switching using the dedicated button takes a second or two to switch between languages.
apps are noticably slower than ICZen (which i came from)
I tried slimbean because I liked slimic, but there was noticeable lag.
I really like hellybean. it's very fast and stable. So far GPS is the only thing that doesn't work but I use an external bluetooth GPS so it doesn't matter to me. I thought about getting Galaxy Nexus, but this JB update will likely make me hold on to my vibrant for a while longer.

How do you add /datadata to slim bean? I thought because of potential problem with low memory problem, the dev decided not to use it.
For me I haven't had any problem.

First, wipe data. Then flash the device zip. Then flash the 1.1.3 devil HB kernel. You may need to reboot recovery after. Then flash common.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app
JellyBro is simple and quick. I use it as my daily driver. I had an issue with the camera being laggy, but since flashing the most recent update it's been fine. I have tried using the Devil kernel but had nothing but headaches including my modem getting messed up (had to reflash modem) and SDcard storage being stupid (didn't erase anything, but couldn't read anything either...). So JellyBro stock has been the most stable for me.
I am using CM 10 SKANKY jelly bean. It is fast but CM 10 DEVIL was so fast for me. For some issues i am not using the devil. Now i am using the SKANKY but still there is a problem Gallery and music apps can not find my sd card music and photos. i think i can fix it. Otherwise it works fine.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app
Helly Bean should really be added to the list. I know it's based off of CM10's source, but it's awesome enough to merit its own vote. It's my favorite Vibrant ROM so far, period (not just my favorite Jelly Bean ROM). I donated to the creator, DerTeufel1980, the same day I flashed the ROM. It's that good.

The issue with pics/gallery has been reported on pretty much all the jb ROMs. You can try to clear data from gallery and reboot. As far as music, Google play music doesn't seem to be recognizing music on external SD card or at least this is my experience. I loaded songs on my external sd from my laptop. Initially it played but after a few reboots it won't play. Apollo app does recognize it but for some reason it will add multiples on reboots. You can get rid of multiples by going to settings>apps>all and clear data from media storage. I also clear Apollo data but isn't required, you will lose playlists by clearing Apollo data. This might also allow Google play music to recognize music again.
If all else fails, go to recovery clear cache+dalvik, reflash ROM and reboot.

Isn't the gallery/media issue caused by a recent update to ROM Manager? I think I read that if you either remove it or its update, and delete .nomedia file on the SD card (maybe the update to ROM manager puts that there?). After doing so many people have reported having no more problems.
I will search and see if I can find the original post describing that.
Update: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30320427
Now all of problems are gone. I am using SKANKY and for addons I am using HELLY BEAN addons from the link you gave me.

I noticed it a couple of weeks ago. It says it's a stable 2.3.3 with no bloatware. Sounds very intriguing...in fact so much so that I downloaded it, but have yet to flash it...lol.
Certainly tempting isn't it, is this a case of who goes first lmao, out of interest how big is it? I notice the cm7s are just over 80 mb.

Seems like a plain stock ROM, nice to see to be honest.
Noticed the same thing, but was wondering what all it supports, site doesn't say much. I.E. what kernel it has/supports, TB alert stuff like that.
Hopefully the dev comes and explains what all he's done.
Well, I flashed it, for like an hour then when back to cm7 using the recovery I made.
First thing, market didn't work.
Secondly it didn't have the extra apps cm7 has, which I expected, but I instantly missed theme chooser.
Thirdly it wiped my contacts list.

First. The market issue is probably a wipe issue as I had the same problem with two different MIUI GB ROMs.
Secondly. That would be the lack of bloatware mentioned above. It's like stock android, so not sure why you even flashed it if you wanted bloatware.
Thirdly. It didn't wipe your contact list you didn't sync with google, becaue all of your contacts are backed up there.
You know what, I knew that'd be the replies I got, to be honest I'm curious of any rom that 1might increase battery life, currently using 85% over 10hours!! And of course the dreaded wonk which is seemingly inherent with cm7.
I couldn't force Google to sync with my phone, all my contacts are stored with Google you're right there.
Btw how would I get the market back?

I think it is another keyboard app. When you go to change the keyboard, it lists something in all Asian symbols.
I just deleted it and I have not noticed any difference with how blandroid runs.
The wonk was almost fixed on latest release of cm7. If you don't have the latest version, try it.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
Nearly fixed isn't fixed. The problem is really dragging out and these stock ROMs are showing that its fixed with them. Wonking isn't the only issue at the moment either. There is still problems with the sound levels after docking the phone sometimes where its maximum level is halved etc.
CM is an ace project and I truly respect the guys and their efforts behind it, but CM7 is very buggy, and when it starts to affect the ability to take calls its hard to use it.
Oh! Thx for the reply. I got scared and ran back to cm7

Went for this until the CM stable kills the wonk; now I may not go back. I haven't used it for long enough to know about stability. I think of it as pure AOSP, but already rooted (and a just a few essential CM goodies).

So far, I haven't found anything missing I need.
And if you want a bit more eye candy and customization, just install launcher pro or adw.launcher from the market.
I give it thumbs-up!

Personally have only tried JT's and have got to say this is the best my phone has run in a while. Just got off a day and a half of battery, everything works that I need to work, GPS insta-locks, MMS send and receive works. On build 2 with stock everything.

now dont get me wrong, i do like the customization of aokp and somewhat of cm10, but i can bybass that with aosp and im loving it all together. ive been using the rom since early afternoon yesterday
Add in Steve Spears AOKP JB and we have some incredible choices. I like AOKP over AOSP over CM10.

I also have problems with aokp and helly bean in regards to compass being off and GPS being off.

Good info, thanks. I've been bouncing between Helly bean and jt's cm10, tried sbrissen´s aosp but realized I was missing some cm10 mods.
I just noticed the GPS/compass oddness you mention today, so I'll check out this fix too.
Fyi, a performance test for me is to see if the npr app can progress through items in a play list while I'm out for a run... after I start it playing and press the power button to turn the screen off, play usually stops at the end of a segment. I "wake" the phone by pressing the power button again, and play often resumes. Better ROM / kernel combos will play through a full play list...
I'm pretty sure that the NPR app isn't particularly well-behaved in this respect, but it works ok on stock gb and on ics ms6 with glitch default settings.
While walking today, Helly bean was getting hung up on play list transitions, so I switched to jt's cm10 - I forgot to wipe after making a nandroid of the Helly bean image, but the dirty flash to cm10 seems to be working fine!
Surprised at this because of the /datadata difference, but there you go...

Another one of these?
Whatever one you use that meets your expectations. There are people here that will run ICS without issues, but state they have issues with Jelly Bean or Gingerbread. It is all a matter of what works for you.
That being said, CM7 based ROMs are your best bet. They are the most developed and mature for the device.

If you find Andromadus Mimicry and CM7.2 too slow, than I’m afraid you need a new phone
Minicry might not be 100% stable, but it is pretty close. I think the ICS (or JB) would not be significantly faster even with official HTC kernel (without hacks).
You can overclock your phone and try different governors. This way you can improve the “smoothness” at a cost of battery life. Also be sure you are running ext4 filesystem. And a fast SD card may help too, check if it is at least class 8.
Mimicry flies for me at 1.5ghz
Andromadus test builds with JellyBean are the fastest of all I've tested so far (cm7.*, cm9.*, MIUI, stock sense ROMs etc.). There are some bugs however (in latest build - #71 - for example camera stopped working), but speed, smoothness, and all JB-related-features of this ROM are really outstanding. I believe, that all annoying bugs will be smashed really soon and my G2 will last until new nexus comes out.

Both of them tend to have some VERY slow slowdown periods, where I have to take out the battery, just to get It responsive.
When I try to overclock it, anything higher than about 1209 (with smartass governor) gives me a bootloop.

I'm coming from GB + CM7 rom, is the new JB or ICS much faster and still retain the phone's full functionality? I'm considering changing to Andromadus Minicry ICS/CM9. Currently, there is considerable lag when I just try to open up e-mail or respond to a text msg.
If there is much improvements, I rather just stay with my current build try not fix something that isn't (completely) broken. Is there a good way to migrate current apps over to the new rom? I'm currently running some crack apps that may not be available anymore.

Sense beyond 2.1/3.5(gingerbread) generally speaking is too much bloat for desirez/g2, sense 4.0A would be fine cept its been worsen and slowed down with the 3.0 kernel for sake of a working camera. The full sense 4.0 they took the kernel from is slow to the point of practically unusable on our devices.

Jelly bean still has a bit of work to put into, but there are plenty of fast ICS roms (non-sense) out there with "functional" camera app (post-gb its mainly the camera people complain about)
I've found for me, ICS to be quicker/smoother than stock or CM7.2.
Regarding apps (while I don't condone piracy) titanium backup would be the solution, assuming said apps are compatible with ICS.

PS: "CM9" by Jerl is not CM9 Official (ie: it didn't come from the cyanogenmod people), it's just bout the same (if not worse in my opinion) than Mimicry which is based off Andromadus which is based off Cyanogenmod 9's source. Though if you do try Jerl's port of it, I strongly advise you not to use the 3.0 kernel, too many problems with it and he apparently didn't bother testing it before releasing it (or least didn't bother to tell people the risk).
Far as google account syncing, it depends on whether or not you made sure to flash google apps afterwards, and if you accidently booted prior to flashing it, then you need to make sure to remove all your accounts on the phone then re-add them as it says in the OP of that thread.

Lets hope miui jumps straight to 4.1.2 on the next beta test so we can have all the new features too.
This rom seems quite useable indeed, it is very smooth, very good for a beta, if this is the shape of things to come we could have a winner here. Pretty much everything seems to work one you get around the small permissions bug. Video player and cam performance all ok too. Let hope someone builds a decent ROM with this with all the usual mods + the latest 4.1.2 stuff.
I used Google translate to convert the Chinese beta testing page to English and i see there have been updates already. Unfortunately the beta is closed.... We need someone to give us a sneaky link to the newer versions.. Im too impatient hehe.

bring on the links people, i cant find any myself. Anyone else found any more bugs?
ROM does seem to have one of the usual problems I always find with MIUI, downloads hang on play, intermittent and seeming random with non wifi downloads.
FOR THOSE WISHING TO TRY THIS ROM.
bugs / isues so far:
- permissions crash, you have to set app manually.
- stock browser seems to be locked to chineese search.
- Heavilly stripped down, all samsung stuff removed.
- Had several phone freezes where rotation is enabled.
- No english play store installed, can be downloaded.
- No gapps.
- doesnt seem to play youtube videos from youtube app, probablly some region issues (plays them ok in browser)
General Useage:
- Video and camera work well.
- Phone / wifi / 3g GPS all working
- Supports latest Note 2 cam and gallery
- Themes seem to work fine.
- UI seems very smooth
- Seems generally very stable if rotation is disabled.

Thanks for your feedback.
Please also confirm if S-Beam/Nfc works well... this is a feature which I never got to work on MIUI Roms... when trying to transfer from my GS3 with MIUI rom to a GS3 with stock rom and vice versa...
First Public Release:
http://www.miui.com/development.html
Please can you OP update the thread title to "first public release of MIUI Jellybeen 4.1.1", or something like that.
FOR THOSE WISHING TO TRY THIS ROM.
bugs / isues so far:
- No english play store installed, can be downloaded and works fine
- No gapps.
- no sapps
- banding more obvious than usual on lockscreen wallpaper.
- Fc's when coming from beta ROM.
General Useage:
All working that I can tell so far, camera and video fine, web also fine. UI is smooth, recommend full wipe for those coming from other miui versions including the beta release from the other day.
I figured I would start a thread since I couldn't find one devoted to posting our personal experiences with ROMs for our Kindles.
I have tried 3 separate roms out thus far.
CM 10.1 (JB 4.2.2)
This was my first dive into custom roms for my first gen Kindle Fire, and it was a pretty easy transition. Really enjoyed freeing up the device by not having to have the stock Kindle firmware. Apps ran far more quickly and smoothly. After using this for a while I yearned for something faster/smoother. (probably need to get myself a higher powered device to improve on that). Somewhat missed the lack of an Amazon Video app. It's too bad Amazon has not yet developed an app for other Android devices that we can install. A minor issue (with all roms) seems to be the boot animation. It starts out stretched and in the upper right region of the screen at first and then corrects itself maybe 10 seconds later and is centered. Not a big deal of course. The only drawback for me personally with this one is CM's lack of customization.
JB 4.3 Barebones
I had read that JB 4.3 ran a bit quicker (and used more battery) than 4.2.2. I found this to be the case. Especially when using an app like Flipboard this is apparent. The boot time seemed to be a bit longer than CM 10.1, but that could very well be my perception. I did find that the build I was on seemed to give me issues on restarts. I'd restart and icons would be missing and the icon themes I was using with Apex would have to be reset. Mild annoyance that I didn't enjoy dealing with. Overall I was mildly satisfied and preferred CM 10.1 to the specific (early) JB 4.3 that I was using, despite the fact that CM ran slower.
AOKP (JB 4.2.2)
Just installed this one tonight. Coming into this, I was already a big fan of AOKP 4.2.2 as its my daily driver on my Droid Razr M. Love AOKPs customization. Anything beyond AOKP level customization is overkill for my taste. AOKP just has everything I'd need in that department. I did notice that I feel like I'm back to CM 10.1 speed which I may or may not settle on. A minor issue I found was the screen rotation glitch (which I have heard is found in few different ROMs.) It's nothing too major, but it may be enough of a nuisance to get me to switch in the future. We'll see. I do prefer AOKP 4.2.2 over CM 10.1 strictly due to AOKPs level of customization. If you are simply looking for a ROM beyond stock and not necessarily looking for great options and customization, I'd say go with CM 10.1 (If you don't have your heart set on JB 4.3, that is). But my personal favorite of the 3 would have to be AOKP. I have not used this long enough to properly test the battery life compared to CM 10.1.
I hope this helps any noobs like me who are giving flashing roms a thought. Would love to hear what you all are finding for the best speed and battery life. I'll post any updates for roms that I try in the future.
Summary:
Best Battery - CM 10.1
Best Speed - JB 4.3 Barebones
Best Customization - AOKP 4.2.2

I'll check it out thanks! How does battery life compare with the others you've tried? I'll take speed over battery life at this point though. So definitely giving it a shot, thanks!
The battery life is around the same as official CM10.1. The battery lasts a whole day with moderate to heavy usage. Performance is about the same too

Thanks for starting this thread! I've been trying find a jelly bean rom that doesn't suffer from low memory app crashes. Like when the browser just quits suddenly and drops you to the home screen. So far cm10.1 and the stock roms have this problem pretty equally in my experience. Has aokp or any other rom better handled this issue for you?

Well just as you mention it, BAM! That's exactly what I'm experiencing now with AOKP 4.3. Lots of browser crashes and keyboard issues where it will not pop up. Rom is still a decent bit quick, but I may be looking to downgrade from JB 4.3 to something that won't have minor issues such as browser crashing. Need a good daily driver with good speed and battery life. AOKP 4.2.2 didn't have the browser crashing.

Yeah I recently switched to twa priv's cm9 and so far the only problem I've had is it doesn't sleep quite as deeply. And I can't just let it sit unplugged all day and barely lose any battery like jb roms. Not a huge sacrifice.

Interesting. Going to try giving that one a shot then! Haven't yet found the daily driver. Do you have a link to that version you're running?

My first (and current) rom is/was CM 10.1(official from cm site). It ran perfectly for about a month, but now its force closing apps, play store(and othe gapps) dont work. Has become really frustrating. Looking forward to a 4.4 rom, if it doesnt come, will install 4.3

Basic question, but have you done a weekly wipe of cache and dalvik cache in recovery? May be worth a shot if it took a month for errors. I always do a cache and dalvik cache wipe once a week on my phone. Seems to keep it running smoothly.
I am also running CM 10.1 now. Really like it so far. Smoothest running rom I've tried for the Kindle.

I've had my kf for about 3 months and while i haven't flashed them all i have flashed lots of them.
Unfortunately, i haven't found any rom either with or without gapps that have the low memory/ram issue.
I have done lots of searching an just plain tinkering with everything from freezing everything possible in stock roms to only having 2 user apps installed, i.e. dolphin browser and adobe flash player.
The only thing i really want to do is to be able to let my grandson and nefews/nieces watch cartoons on the net, and maybe some simple type kids games. (This way they have their own and dont mess with mine lol)
The games I've found and installed and they work fine, but the memory on this thing is just not capable of even rudimentary multitasking.
Its a damn shame too, because just an extra 50 - 100 mb of ram would make the difference.
Wish i knew how to dev a kernel id look at the big memory kernels on the gnex and see if he same principles could be applied.

I'm not sure if anybody is going to get us a 4.4 rom, but isn't 4.4 supposed to address low ram devices specifically? If so, this may help us out.

I found it in the link below in the op. Unfortunately it wasn't as stable as I remembered and I moved on to the latest cm M release. Pretty good so far, but I doubt it fully solves any problems mentioned.

Ok I'm quickly tiring of my Kindle running unbearably slow at the benefit of battery life. Which Rom, any version of android, works the best on the Kindle Fire? I'm talking smooth. I'm running 4.3.1 CM 10.2 and I just can't do it anymore. If I have to downgrade to an earlier version of Android I will. I just need faster. I've got a Nexus 10 ordered, but keeping this and want it at it's best. So what's the fastest?
Here is a thanks for speeding up my rom...

The rom I use - Fuzz(buttery smooth and tremendous battery life (13 hrs with wifi on ) with about 150 mb free ram always)

I tested all the three rooms, all well.
Make sure you have the latest twrp 2.6.3.1 or you will be bricked.
Good luck
