I have a Sandisk 64GB SDXC running in my TF101G, it worked also in my htc Sensation, so I guess it will run also in the TF700.
You may have to re-format it (the cards are shipped with exFAT usually) if there is no driver for exFAT in your ROM. If you plan to use files bigger than 4GB, you will have to use exFAT or NTFS (driver required (theres an app in the market, ntfs mounter)) or, if supported, ext2/3/4. exFAT is probably the best choice, because you can read it also on windows OS.
I just got my 64gb microsdxc card and formatted to fat32 and my tf700 won't read it =(

But this will not work in the HD2? That's just crazy. Can it really be true that it only supports crappy old and slow MicroSD at the very max size of 8gb and no real internal phone memory??? Even the hero has sdhc :S

The specification says '(SD 2.0 compatible)'.
SD 2.0 allows up to 32 Gb per card.
HC only means the card is bigger than 4GB.
Can't see any issue here ...

People have said that the Note supports SDXC card.
Does that mean that I can transfer a video file greater than 5 GB to the card and the Note will be able to play the video file on a 64 GB SDXC card?
I plan to buy a card like this:

I believe the SGS2 (and thus the note) supports the card (the specifications of the note state up to 32GB, as did the SGS2), but it only supports SDHC transfer speeds, and android only supports FAT/FAT32, not exFAT or NTFS. Please note, this is from memory and is speculation. If anyone has extra information to add or to correct, feel free.
Edit: The issue with 32GB 'limit' on SDHC cards comes primarily from the SD 2.0 specification which states that cards cannot go above 32GB, formatted as FAT32, as some [archaic] operating systems do not like FAT32 greater than 32GB. As per the wikipedia page, and in my experience, the operating system treats it like just another disk (which is why custom roms can use ext3 filesystems, and a multi partition structure). If you got a ROM that supports NTFS, it would probably work fine, but stock/manufacturer Android does not ship with this support.
Another Edit: from Wikipedia: exFAT Note that the built-in Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7 can mount and support FAT32 volumes larger than 32 GB, but cannot create a FAT32 volume larger than 32 GB. << You'll probably need to use something else to format the card
No speculation, they definitely work (I'm using one in mine right now, its perfect, like it has been in every other Android device I've tried it on - details here).
NZTechfreak: did you use an SDXC reader on your computer? I'm looking at the random 4k values with interest.
I'm trying to remember now, I think they were in phone actually to be the most representative of in-phone use...

Great deal on a sandisk 64gb microsd card from Amazon. $59 is by far the best price I've seen yet...
Interesting that it has Android support right on the packaging, since 64GB cards require formatting to the legacy FAT32 file system. Is this being shipped formatted to FAT32 or are there Android devices now supporting exFAT? This includes a Sandisk app on it, which is free anyways, but it would be pointless if you had to format the card to use it, essentially wiping out the app.
FAT32 actually supports more than 32GB. My brother has an entire 250GB hard drive formatted to FAT32 with no problems. As for exFAT, it's a Microsoft owned technology, so it isn't as likely to end up in android.
Oh, and the "included" app is actually a QR code that links to the app on the Android Market.
If its the class 6 it comes exFAT and you have to format fat32 like I have done and it works great in my note. I read they made a special galaxy note / android class 10 version plug and play version ....

A bit lost. Brought loads of memory cards and all been messed up so now I have got a samsung microsdxc uhs-I card but it clearly says on it only to be used with sdxc devices.
What is a sdxc device??

All 64gb cards are sdxc. Your device must support sdxc which s4 does.
xc is 3rd gen for space and speed. Speed is usually a lie but it's necessary for the space. Older were sdhc and sd. Sd limit was 2gb. sdhc limit is 32gb.
Also sdxc is default exfat. Some non compliant devices require you to reformat in fat32 which is hard to do. But samsung supports exfat.
Exfat requires a license from microsoft which stock android i dont think includes yet.
UHS I is a sdxc speed. Not many sdxc devices use it yet. My note ii runs in class 10. Hopefully note iii uses uhs i.
So if you want 64gb, you must get sdxc. Your device must support sdxc. The only thing optional is exfat. The device may reformat for you to fat32 or possibly ntfs. Exfat is best for flash memory. For windows harddisks and ssd, not flash cards though, use refs (only for storage, windows 8 wont boot refs yet until it is stable, ntfs for booting).
exfat - memory cards
fat32 - memory cards only if you must or for sharing with other computers (xp, mac, tv, etc.)
ntfs - windows booting
refs - windows storage

You are thinking about a joined memory of internal and external SD card, right? This will be possible with Android 6 / Marshmallow.

No, it does not support striping. What it does support is called "Just a bunch of disks" (JBOD) but that's no RAID. JBOD is a storage volume created by joinig disks (here SD cards) of different sizes. JBOD does not improve performance, it just supplies you a single storage using all memory cards (Phone 32GB + ext. SDcard 200GB). There is also no data security (redundancy of data). Therefore RAID 0 (striping) is, technically spoken, not a RAID as well because of the missing data redundancy.
I also expect several issues with the JBOD solution of Android 6. The externa SD card is much slower than the internal memory which might have and according to some reports on the net does have adverse effects on the loading speed of apps and data. Also when the SD card breaks you will probably have to re-install the complete phone as you have no influence on where the apps and data are stored.

Yes, should work if the 256GB is an SDXC card.
If a phone supports SDXC cards based on the SDA 3.0 specifications (like the Sandisk 200GB card) it will support every SDXC card following that standard.
SDXC supports 64GB up to 2TB.
If some day there will be for example a 512GB or 1TB SDCX card available it should also work with the Note 4.

256GB Micro SD cards don't exist only 200GB
You either saw a regular 256 GB SD card or a fake 256GB micro SD card which has been reviewed as BS.

There is no such thing as a 256GB microSD card at this time. Biggest one you can find is the 200GB one mentioned.

ur wrong.. 200gb is not the last high capacity micro sd.. their is one micro sd with 512 gb capacity.. company name is Microdia.. just google about it..
The 512GB card from Microdia doesn't exist yet. At one point they were claiming it would be out 8 months ago (and was going to cost $1000) - but again it does not exist yet (and might never be as it's been almost a year since they maid these claims). I've seen plenty of people scammed and ripped of on these cards - again - THERE IS NOTHING BIGGER THAN THE 200GB for sale at this time.
Interesting I didn't know the Note 4 could support a microSDCard of that size, I thought the largest card that can be used is a 128GB card.
