So i just got home with my tf300 and Im quite excited to get this bad boy rooted and all set to go. First issue I found is how do i go about installing the drivers for this tab? I downloaded the files but im not quite sure what to do with them. For most android devices I thought the drivers just come in an installable file. These seem to be different. Any advice would really help!
I "think" the drivers come with the Asus sync software that you can download from their site. That's pretty much all I installed before connecting the tablet. I already had the android dev kit installed and adb working so that shortened my time as far as rooting goes.

Thanks, I will look into downloading that. I should have everyhig else installed and ready to go from rooting my phones

I'm sorry if this has been answered already but searching for amazon video gave me way to many results.
I just bought it yesterday and I'm running Energy Cm9. I wanted to know if there is a way I can still play my amazon videos.
BTW ICS saved me from returning the KF. Hated the stock 'Amazon Experience'
Thanks.
Can you link to the post that worked for you? I just got mine today and there are a few posts to root. But it seems not all are recommended.

All I did (i'm using windows 7 64) downlod the Kindle Fire Utility http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399889. Also I have my windows in DEV mode since I run unsigned drivers for others tasks.
I just followed that guide and was rooted in less then 10 mins. Just took me a while to realize I had to press the power button to get in to TWRP.
also i just installed perm root then TWRP. my fire was on 6.2.2. After that tried a few roms. Found ICS to be the most user-friendly. CM7 , just felt unnatural to me.
sorry for the thread and pms negelct
i literally have had no success with unlock
until now
i didnt have to format sd card or factory reset
i have a release day pad and was not unlockable until
i flashed to .17
then flashed manually right to .30

then let it sit for one day
and checked unlocker and bam
im only saying this bc i have been getting alot of requests to make a rom for this pad .. well the time is finally here that i can begin...

Do you know if its safe to flash boot.img or boot.blob only... Im assuming clockwork handles it the same and all i need is to update install script ?

just using the same methods as usual
and since the hardware is exactly the same
maybe this will be a simple port
this wont brick your device
just may make it not get past bootanimation
this is the alpha alpha alpha jellybean port
without modifying the ramdisk
until i can crack the boot.blob and split the bootimg
when i get home
this is built on the cm9 release for the tf300t
the idea was to use a little bit of both
but this is solely sdk built
i will be using the nexus dump next
make sure you have a backup

So are you saying that if i follow those steps I too could have an unlocked boot loader? Launch weekend purchase, have been getting OTAs automatically but still no unlock.
I'll try it out... maybe won't even root it just in case that causes issues.

Hello TPT community,
I Just got this tablet mainly because of the included digitizer and was wondering if anyone could give me a guideline on how to speed things up for this tablet. The tablet came with honeycomb 3.1 included and I am finding it pretty sluggish and unresponsive in general tasks. I went into settings to do a software update but it seems there is no 4.0 update available. There doesn't seem to be a toggle for pen only input in the settings either. Is the normal process for flashing a new Rom to root, then install CWM, and flash Roms?
I'm kind of a n00b here, but that is the right process in general.
For you, there should be a 4.0 update, but you might have to try a few times. After you are running ICS (4.0) you can root and load Koshu's JB rom.
Aren't there problems with rooting ICS?

Okay well I went into settings, about tablet, system updates, check for updates. It always says "your system is up to date" even though I know I'm on 3.1

Lets see if we can figure out why it won't update. In settings -> about tablet, what is listed for model number, android version, and kernel version?
Edit:
Found this - http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPa...ystem-updates-OTAs-not-installing/ta-p/713571
It might help... I'm also searching for a manual download for ota3 or ota 3.5 from lenovo that you can load in recovery.
Edit 2:
Sorry, I need more coffee...
Is this a wifi only tablet or a 3g tablet? What region is it?
I attached the info in a picture. I dont know how to find out what region or wifi/3g it is though. I don't have a sim to test it. I got it from here: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7473177&CatId=6845
It is wifi only, also found this interesting thread - http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-slate-tablets/thinkpad-1839-update/td-p/975085
Apparently the Tiger Direct refurb is a custom SKU and is SUPPOSEDLY not upgradeable... tho I would think there are ways around that. At least now I know what we are working with here.

So any ideas on how to update to ICS? The ROM in android development section says it requires me to have ICS first.
Unfortunately no... sorry. I'm still a n00b with android devices. Maybe someone with a little more knowledge will chime in now that we know what we are dealing with.
You can root your tablet and go straight to Jelly Bean 4.1.1 or 4.1.2. It's fast and cool! The only little bug is with wifi!

The wifi bug actually isn't that big, just set wifi to always on like suggested. As far as the tampered drivers error, you will probably have to : a) search for a way to install unsigned drivers on win8
or b) use a winxp/win7 pc.
Be careful tho... flashing after having stock ICS is needed for a reason.
Flashing what?

I was worried you were gonna try to just jump straight to JB.
Hey there,
well one way is to try flashing the upgrade directly but like da_reeseboy already mentioned, there is a high possibility that it will fail. Only other way would be to flash the bootloader directly (that most likely the part, that keeps the JB kernel from booting on non ICS kernels) but there is a high bricking chance and eventually the firmware for some of the hardware needs to be updated, too, to work properly.
It looks like there's hope - this guy has the same weird software version as you - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37487649&postcount=6. He used the directions in that thread to upgrade to ICS.

Just trying to think outside the box (noob style), what if he:
1. Installed CWM
2. Restored a clean 0075 nandroid from someone here on xda
3. Restored stock recovery
4. Checked for OTA to ICS
In my mind the software version is what is holding him back from updates, so I'm thinking that restoring an 0075 nandroid will put him in a position to get the update correctly... but I am still new to this so I could be WAY off.

Thanks for still helping! Do I need a special CWM? I just root and install CWM from the market? Honeycomb is really annoying because some apps I use are only for newer androids such as Hulu plus.
Hello Peeps,
Firstly, Im new to this, secondly I'm nowhere near knowledgeable for this undertaking.
So, Ive got a first Gen KF, running factory software version 10.4.6. I got it last year for Xmas and basically forgot I had it until now.
I'd much rather run a version of Android that will actually let me do what I want to do.
I've tried downloading the latest version of KFU I can find v9.9 but it just says its offline, tried reloading drivers a couple of times, all setting are allowed on the KF itself.
Is there a newer Utility anywhere that doesn't require Linux?
I have a laptop running Windows 7 Pro.
I'm hoping someone out there can help me as I don't want to buy a tablet if I don't have to.
Thank you
according to your software version you have a kindle fire 2 !
look and go for help in the corresponding forum:

Yes and as a warning don't use kfu on and 2nd gen device, you will hard brick it.

I got a Nexus 7 2012 for dirt cheap, However it is running android 5.1.1 and it painfully slow. I'm not experienced with rom flashing, but I watched some youtube videos on how to unlock and root a device, and I have done so. However all the tutorials show installing Cyanogen mod, I don't know much about android but from the looks of it, Cyanogenmod is dead. Is there a way to still get it? and what rom would be the best for this device.
Cyanogenmod changed to LineageOS.

Ended up getting open G apps to work. It didn't do **** when I flashed it via Nexus Root Toolkit but when I used it via the clockwork think the nexus root kit installs it works fine. Thanks for the help everyone, first time doing anything like this to a phone and it was certainly a good experience! Never thought I would have android 7.1.1 running smoother than the 5.1.1 that was on it.
