XDA/Samsung

Hello Guys,
My name is John, I recently became the social media analyst at Samsung mobile. I wanted to start opening the lines of communication between XDA and Samsung. First I wanted to say I have noticed your work on our devices on the XDA forums. I think you guys do an outstanding job, I myself am a developer for mobile devices. So let’s get down to business, we’re going to be in Austin from March 10-15 for the SXSW(south by southwest http://sxsw.com/convention). I was wondering if any of you guys are going so that we could meet up and share a couple of ideas I have. I am looking forward to meeting some of you GREAT developers!
Thanks in advance,
John

Welcome John! I have to say I'm quite impressed that Samsung or even just you as an employee are taking the initiative to come here and commune with our development community. I hope this is the start of a wonderful 3rd and 1st party development exchanging of ideas!

Great to see an official employee from Samsung.

Hey John how high are you in the Samsung chain? If your extremely high can i ask you...... WHEN THE HECK ARE THE OTHER US CARRIERS GETTING FROYO ON THEIR GALAXY S DEVICES. I DIDN'T WANNA HAVE have to root BUT I JUST MIGHT HAVE TO. Or pay extra and get the inspire. I'm sorry. But I've been driven to the brink. I'm never buying anymore Samsung. You guys were my first phone, but ur updates and lag built in to the software aren't worth it.

Hey John, just want to echo others comments that it's very impressive that a Samsung employee would begin a dialogue here at XDA. Look forward to seeing you jump in the forums and offer your suggestions.

Why are you asking him that question here? Come on people. Spamming John with questions in every topic he creates isn't going to get you an answer. Stay in your Captivate forum if you're going to ask him questions regarding Galaxy S phones.
Hi John
Welcome to XDA Developers.
It's quite a surprise to see a real person from any company wishing to participate together.
I've alerted the Senior people and Admins, some one will be in touch with you shortly.
Enjoy your stay.

Dropbox alternative, in my opinion it's better [Copy.com]

Hello everyone! I wanted to share what I've found. First let me express my newly found hate for Dropbox. I have about 100gb space on Dropbox and I thought "How cool if I could just backup my pictures and documents to dropbox and have it reflected on EVERY computer I own!" So I did that. BIG mistake. Having 50,000+ files made it reindex frequently and bogged down my computer multiple times a day for 5 minutes or so (sometimes more). Huge pain.
I set out and tried out A TON of different services that offered very good pricing and similar functionality.
I found my #1!
The company is called Copy.com, from what I read they're supposedly very good.
Here's the awesome news. They START with 15gb free data. Here's my referral:
Moderator Edit Link Removed
It gets another 5gb for you (and me)... So 20gb free to start.
For EVERY person you get to sign up under your own referral, you get another 5gb. I think it's a great idea! They want to get their name out there. hehe. At the moment they say there is no limit to the number of people you can invite. I saw some guy has 600gb+ right now. Crazy, huh? They also say it's for life.
Now, I know you can sign up without my referral (you'd get less space) but if you do sign up, I'd appreciate it if you clicked that link to get me some extra space as well.
On to my personal opinion about the service:
I like the space, that's for sure.
It's also a fairly stable app. I haven't had any crashes or anything like that.
The company offers 30 versions of your document / file. I think this is a MUST. I don't know how many times I feel like something has gone wrong and I wanted to go back to another version.
Speed? Well... I have a 105mb down and 11.5mb upload speed. My upload speed uses about half, while my download isn't an issue at all. I wrote them to see why I'm uploading so slowly. But uploading at 500kb/sec isn't that bad.
The mobile app is actually really good! It's really easy to use
Here's a big one: FAIR STORAGE! Finally! Something Dropbox doesn't understand :-\... If I share a folder that has 10GB and I share it with another person, just one other person, it wouldn't take 10 of my GB and 10 of the other person's. It would take 5 from me and 5 from the other person! If it's between 3..., well... 10/3= 3.33GB each! THANKS! Finally! Dropbox would take your 10 plus another persons 10. So 10GB of files would be 20gb with 1 other person. Shared with 10 people, it would be 100gb!!! Not 10! Arg.
I think it makes a great companion for my Note 2 because all my pictures are synced up there and they load REALLY fast! (not like my Skydrive account, REALLY slow at loading, and lack of versioning for anything other than documents). You can also share files publicly very easily as well.
So give it a try! I think it's worth it. I've already moved the majority of my files off of Dropbox and my CPU is thanking me from all the reindexing.
This is why referral threads are prohibited.

Ya tis thread will be deleted i think. But i did signup as i share photos with my familie on dropbox and one day it was all deleted for some odd reason so just hope this is better.

[FREE UTILITY] Proximity Actions

Hello fellow devs, :highfive:
I am an enthusiastic and fairly new Android app developer (started like 2 years ago from total scratch).
I'd like to introduce you one of my most successful projects called Proximity Actions. It's a small, innovative and very useful utility, which allows you to perform various actions using the proximity sensor of your device. I initially developed it for personal use, since I could't find such and I really needed it for managing my Galaxy Tab 7.7. The app is about to reach 50 000 downloads in about a week or so and people tend to love it. :good:
I also made a beta testers community on Google+ called "Novum Inceptum Beta Testers" for everyone interested in testing new ideas and features. "Novum Inceptum" means "New beginning" in Latin . I'm mostly using Google+ so you can add me there.
I really appreciate any feedback so please do not hesitate to comment or even email me if you have anything to say. Also, please feel free to check out my other apps - my very first one was The Mastermind - a code-breaking game for the people who like mental challenges.

[Q] How to market my paid app further?

Hi guys,
2 weeks ago I published my new paid app on Google Play, and first couple of days I go 25 downloads a day, but last days, I get only 1, 2 or even no download a day. App was 3. in Top selling news in education, now it fell to lower posts. A lot of people like the app, desing and everything. I was putting a lot of work and time in the app, I was happy first days, but now I'm disappointed. I know that downloads will naturaly fall in time, but this? So what am I doing wrong? Do you have any tips to promote the app more?
I discovered this site appszoom.com, you can buy there review for 100$ and they do it in 48 hours and you have your review for 4 days on their homepage. What do you think of that?
Also, what price should I set it on? It was on 0,99$, but I think it's too low and if I set it on 1.99$ people say that it's too expensive...
If you buy my app, coud you please write some nice review? People that like it don't write reviews and then they are just haters, that write just for the fun...
App is called Science in Pocket, just search "Science in Pocket Serpentcorp". I have lite version without ads too.
Thanks for any advice!

How are you marketing your app right now?
I'd advice against spending $100 on stuff like reviews etc unless you know exactly what you're doing, and that you have a killer app. Try free things first and see if you can get something going that way first, and save your money until you know more about where to spend them.

[Q] Promote your App for free. What do you think? :)

Hey guys. I know how hard it is to get users and reviews for our Apps. Been there 3 times. Wanted to share my 1 cent, it may help someone here. I got around 100 free installs and reviews for my Android App using this service called install4install.com. The concept is simple. You install and review other developers Apps and they do the same for you. Plus, you can get demographics/comments/suggestions/bug reports as well that you can use to solidify your app further. What do you guys think?

How many apps did you install and review yourself?
Did you get all 5s? Did you give all 5s? I am just asking just to understand the community, as if it is too "generous" it may be seen by Google as dishonest promotion. I would prefer some true 4s here and there than all artificial 5s.
Its at pure will of the users. If they like your App, they may give 5 or 4. I got 3's as well. I personally reviewed quite a lot and still do it to get points. Try it, its awesome!!
Looks interesting. It may be useful for new apps. For apps already with hundreds of reviews, I think it's not the effort.
I started using it for my new game, it seems good
it is good for somebody who can write review.
Pretty interesting concept, but is it truly scalable? Also, wondering what kind of users (quality or not) will be the ones installing your app..
Hi, You can try some app review exchange websites.
They was good on start. But today you should featuring you apps to get more than 10 reviews.
