Is anyone successfully using CIFS Manager on a ThinkPad Tablet? If so, what are your settings and where did you find the CIFS.KO kernel file?
If you're not familiar, CIFS Mgr makes remote SMB (samba) network shares appear to be local storage as a folder on your device.
I need CIFS Mgr in order to run Mizuu against network storage, since Mizuu has no onboard SMB support. Mizuu turns your android device into a powerful cover-flow browser for your movies and tv shows.
There are alternatives to Mizuu, but none are as slick as Mizuu (aside from Mizuu's glaring lack of native SMB support).

I've posted the same question on modaco without any luck..
btw I managed to watch streaming video with AndroStream.(httx://androstream.mydedibox.fr)
It use a VLC server to stream video to your phone. The AndroStream server application is avaiable for Windows computer's but, since vlc is avaiable for Linux, I succesfully compiled vlc for my linux box and just started it with default http interface. I don't know what kind of Nas you have, but if it is linux-based and you have acces to it you can easly install vlc without X or qt interface, just http one..
ehi.. an user on modaco managed to have cifs module build for our device..
here the link: httx://android.modaco.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=319581&view=findpost&p=1485848
It is like Air Video but very Complex

Vlc works very good. Streaming mkv without probs.

Another option, but not technically "Streaming" is to use CifsManager.
You can mount network shares, and Android will see them like they are on the phone.
I can't remember exactly how i did it, but it is fairly easy.
From memory, after you have configured the network share and a mount point in CifsManager, you can open the file using the Cifs File explorer, and then play it with a program such as vPlayer or Rockplayer
You will need to have Root to do this.
let me know if you need a hand with this.
Just got VLC Stream to work.
Seems to work quite nicely once you've fiddled with the settings :-D
Will test out a long video now.
That CifsManager sounds interesting too.
VLCSC is a great program. I have it working within my home network and streaming via VPN over 3G, but am unable to stream via VPN over wifi, that is, I can't stream from my home network to another network (say, my work network). Has anyone successfully achieved this?
I'm not sure how to setup clear.fi more than what it is now. My PC is sharing media files and clear.fi doesn't display them. Any thoughts on an app that will show all shared media and play it nice?

clear.fi uses DLNA.
So if you enable DLNA on your Win7, you'll see photos somehow.
But you first have to enable access for your A500.
See here:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/e7/archive/2009/05/12/media-streaming-with-windows-7.aspx
But I'm not yet satisfied with this, because currently I didn't manage to have the same view on my A500 like on my desktop. It seems clear.fi shows the photos ordered by "tag" not by foldername.
I bought plex which streams music and transcodes video, works nicely.

I just used cifs (can get kernel modules here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058713) to mount a network share on my laptop and then use vPlayer to playback the videos.
what app do u guys use? I use vlc direct pro. Tried plex also.
Vlc used to work but for some reason it wont anymore.
Plex is way picky and the results were pixeli.
Any tips? I used to have this stream server on my pc to watch on iphone. It was called streamtome. Very easy to setup and very stable. Great for watching movies even outside your network.
Is there any similar app for android?
PS: necermind. Found an app called Emit. Runs perfect
I am using BS Player on my network and it has been working very well.
Are you running the Emit server on your PC?
I have a Samba share on my home network and have been wondering what's the best way for my Note to stream from that over WiFi... anyone know if any of the video client/server programs like Emit/VLC/Plex etc can stream directly from Samba?
I doubt it as Android doesn't natively support CIFS, but it's worth asking!
My computer is Linux with smb shares but no special app running other than that. Bs player streams the files with no issues.
ES file explorer.
Just share your folder on your PC or NAS and open the file from the Network tab on ES file explorer.

Lol... yes... yes you can... es file explorer works... I personally use qloud media server... love the interface and works flawlessly! Very air video-esque if you ever used an iPhone. Mirage is also very cool too... you can shrink the window down to a corner of the screen and continue doing other things while watching movies wirelessly over 3g or wifi

i am having some trouble with es file explorer. it difficult to connect to my pc. i am going to try Qloud media server. what is the difference from the paid version and the free version??
I use es file explorer and BS player. Both have lan options and work well for streaming and moving files. It is an easy setup with windows 7.
tip..Setting up a separate user account in windows for the Nexus makes things easy.Just set up a user and give it permissions in windows and share your folders with it.Make sure you set up a password or you will not be able to log in from the nexus. It will not allow connecting if you leave the password blank.Took me an hour to learn that.
If you use ES and have no password set in windows you can just go to "LAN" then "New" and hit "Scan" it should pick up your shares, if you actually want to add a share manually and have no password set in windows then just use the user name "Administrator" and leave password empty this always works for me in any app.
As for streaming "DicePlayer" supports smb natively so no need for "ES File Explorer" it also supports DTS audio when used with a custom plugin (libffmpeg.so)
If you want movie info and posters then you can use "MovieBrowser HD for Tablet" as it supports smb, UPnP and local sources.
If you don't mind using UPnP say you already have XBMC at home then "MediaHouse UPnP / DLNA Browser" is great especially as it allows you to easily change fanart and posters.
Movie info looks pretty good in landscape with MediaHouse

BTW there is an Android version of XBMC but I don't think it yet supports hardware decoding.
