Can I push apps like go launcher, go sms, go contacts and others into the system? Do I just need to rename them? (Ex- renaming go sms apk into mms.apk, go contacts into contacts.apk) What apk files do I need to push them? Can I just download apks from blackmart and push those apps? Or do I need to use modified apks? Thanks for the responses
Im super noob in pushing apps.
App can push into system with or without rename but some app cant push like smartkeyboard.. just try push and set permission.. reboot and if u got fc with that app u push to system its mean that app cant push..

Hey all, I'm currently on DamageControl 2.06 (thanks damage!) and I've been pushing in AOSP apks from Darchdroid/Darchvanilla (thanks Darch!) via root explorer. AOSP Mms, phone, contacts, email, music etc all work, but I cannot get the AOSP browser replace the HTC browser. Are there dependencies that the AOSP browser needs that DC doesn't have? ...Darchvanilla is Sense-based, so maybe I'm missing something. (Also, I dont have commandline access, so will it be possible to get the browser running just through root explorer?)

Works perfectly, thanks man! And thanks for the awesome roms!
Best way to replace sense apps with AOSP apps.
Find the AOSP apps from a CM6 build by unzipping and pulling the .apk file like browser.apk. Install "File Expert" (Free and amazing file browser with full root access and alteration capablilities application)
Copy the .apk you wish to have on to your phones SD Card
Run File Expert,
hit menu/more/File Explorer settings. Then check "Root Explorer" on the bottom.
hit menu/more/mount/Mount As Read Write
Browse to /System/Apps Find the App you wish to replace with the AOSP version.
Hold Down on the App and when the options come up choose file operations and rename to something like application name.apk.bak
Browse to your SD Card find your app. hold down to choose file operation then choose copy.
Go back to /System/Apps then hit Menu button and choose paste.
Locate the app you just pasted and hold down on it and in file operations choose "permissions" Check Everything and exit out of File Expert
Note: You may need to redo the shortcuts for the app on your desktop and or launcher.
Note: Must have a rooted phone.
Note: 2.3.3 apps may or may not work on 2.2 Android Roms and vise versa.
Note: if this causes errors or failures delete the new apk and rename the old apk to its orginal name.
Good luck!!
So I just updated from the leaked .13 froyo to OTA. As I was restoring apps and removing bloatware through Titanium Backup, I deleted the "Accounts" application. I thought it would remove the icon from the application drawer, which it did. However, now when I go to Settings > Accounts, I get a force close; also, the sync icon remains in my status bar. Can anyone either send me the apk, or the backup files from titanium??
Thanks in advance!

Is your phone deodexed or not?? I ask because if it is... you need a deodexed Account apk.
Can someone please explain deodex-ing please.
Look for chadhaney(. Com). Sorry for the (), I'm a new user and can't post links. Look for droid x default and it has downloads for all the stock apps.
This is the page i use to reinstall bloatware/system apps. After you download, it will save to your sd card.

In simple terms... deodexed is making your phone available to be themed. It removes all of the .odex files in the system/framework and system/app and combine them with their corresponding .apk
In a stock phone you will have as an example Camera.apk & Camera.odex. If you deodex your phone, the two .apk and .odex will be combined into one Camera.apk.
That is also how to check if your system is deodexed or not... look in your system/app & system/framework folders and if you do not see any .odex, then you are deodexed and ready for themes.
Sounds like you are not deodex so just follow what Lt1demon says.

I truly think you are right but please tell him to set permissions as it will not be visible unless u set permission's and in my view use link2sd for these purposes as it includes an option directly to convert it to a system or user app............ :cyclops:
Speaking of permissions, after you move an apk to /system/app...set the permissions to rw-r-r. I think both shivamsejal and deathnotice forgot to say that. And link2sd is good too, but who wants to remain a noob in these things?

You did tell him to set permissions, but how will he know that the permissions should be set to rw-r-r or rwx-r-r or r-rw-rwx, etc.? There are so many different kinds of permissions. Permissions should be the right one, not just any one.

actually mms.apk can be removed and you can still recieve messages,
if you use go sms, handecent, pansi you'd be able to recieve messages with or without stock messaging,
the phone.apk is the one reponsible for the cellular radio decoding and recieving,
if you remove that you'll have no signal
Replacing apps to system.
I have the repencis 3.5 advanced with PCB blue theme, awesome rom BTW! As you know it comes with system replaced. I want to replace stock browser with chrome browser as system app, unless you have better faster browser . Open to suggestions. I followed directions but it didn't work. Please help, thank you! Blackpanther, thanks for the system/app/paste app info it worked great. Shevas I still haven't needed the permissions setting but thanks for the info aswell.

When converting a user app to system, what else changes besides permissions? I'm using cod rom with katsugi kernel. Some apps wont work properly even though permissions are set right like quickpic on this rom, but it worked as system app on repencis. I will appreciate a reply thanks

You need to extract lib files of apk and put it in /system/lib and set permission to rw-r--r... use root explorer tap on the apk then tap on view it will open up contents of apk file navigate to lib folder and choose folder named armeabi cause that is the lib files for our phone which is armv6 extract contents of that folder aand follow the procedure i gave abive on where to put them
touch /human/brain
chmod +x /human/brain
echo "make thirdzcee a sandwich" /human/brain

So I got the quickpic app to work. Thanks for that info. But I tried to do the same with ics picture gallery and I followed the steps but no lib folder. This was also a system app on another rom. I looked for the lib files of this app in the system/lib but there was nothing there. Btw I was having trouble with smart keyboard pro but I found and fixed permissions in system/lib for that too. Thanks! So where else can the lib files hide if not in system/lib or apk/"view"/lib/armeabi/? Thanks again 3rdzc

Change.?
What do u want to change...
Do u just want to replace it...
Or edit it.....
** rooting is new for me,
nd i am a noob to root....**
Install apk through system app installer (download from play store) to replace system apps
If you get force closes if you try to replace them then place your new apk in a cwm flashable zip & flash it in Cwm to replace files
Copy the apks into the folder system/app (which is what flashing does) and reboot

I wouldn't recommend doing it that way - you may get force closes and you have to manually set the permissions yourself
System app installer does it all for you
For apps that cannot be replaced easily because they are in use the best way is to create a flashable zip to replace them in cwm
Marcus system app installer does what I just said also so does flashing I.e if he gets force closes my way he will still get them your way all he needs to do after is reboot I've done this many times (is probably y I forgot to say change permissions) and he asked how to do it using root explorer
Anyways OP I forgot to tell u this but u need to change permissions of the app u copy to rw-r--r just hold down on an app and select change permissions
PHONE SLOW CLICK ME?

You can use System App Installer, or if you really want to "change" them by yourself after you replace the *.apk you have to set permissions like this rw-r--r--, OR you can just delete the apps that you don't want from the theme's zip and flash it.
Sorry for my English
