Change.?
What do u want to change...
Do u just want to replace it...
Or edit it.....
** rooting is new for me,
nd i am a noob to root....**
Install apk through system app installer (download from play store) to replace system apps
If you get force closes if you try to replace them then place your new apk in a cwm flashable zip & flash it in Cwm to replace files
Copy the apks into the folder system/app (which is what flashing does) and reboot
PHONE SLOW CLICK ME?

I wouldn't recommend doing it that way - you may get force closes and you have to manually set the permissions yourself
System app installer does it all for you
For apps that cannot be replaced easily because they are in use the best way is to create a flashable zip to replace them in cwm
Marcus system app installer does what I just said also so does flashing I.e if he gets force closes my way he will still get them your way all he needs to do after is reboot I've done this many times (is probably y I forgot to say change permissions) and he asked how to do it using root explorer
Anyways OP I forgot to tell u this but u need to change permissions of the app u copy to rw-r--r just hold down on an app and select change permissions
PHONE SLOW CLICK ME?

You can use System App Installer, or if you really want to "change" them by yourself after you replace the *.apk you have to set permissions like this rw-r--r--, OR you can just delete the apps that you don't want from the theme's zip and flash it.
Sorry for my English

How this you go about installing it ? Am assuming if you managed to delete it you must have rooted and got adb running or Root Explorer.
If you have root explorer and have placed the files in system/app the only issue I think you have is with the permission.
Mount as RW
Navigate to system/app , long press the mms.apk and select permissions, change the permissions to
Read Write
Read
Read
Now do the same for the other file, once your done check below your file description , the permissions should now be similar to the other files present there.
Mount as RO
Reboot,
hopefully it should work.
Cheers,
Vikram.

I think that only .apk will be needed. .odex exist after start of application, so I think that it is only some cashe/data file.
My mms.apk can try download here.
I was (like an idiot) trying to edit the browser icon by using root explorer & APK Manager
When I went to implement what I had done in APK manager into root explorer I replaced my browser.apk app and aparently what I had done didnt work
I made a backup of Browser.apk and I even tar'd it but I cant figure out how to get the browser back - when I click install it says "installation was not complete"
Extract the backup then use root explore to copy backup to /system/app then set correct permission on
browser.apk rw-r--r--.... Reboot see if that helps..
That's exactly what I did except for the reboot, thanks for the suggestions (trying it right now)
It worked Thanks

firstly your sgy must be rooted.
Then check if your stock rom is deodexed or odexed and accordingly download the gallery 3d apk.
Using root explorer/root browser (with system directory mounted as writable)paste that gallery 34 apk in
System/app and change permissions to rw-r-r and reboot.
I flashed evo-x 4.2, the ROM is great but I'm missing the stk.apk (SIM toolkit).
I really need it since it is used almost everytime to check airtime balance.
Can anyone upload the stk.apk for the Galaxy Y? From the stock ROM?
I'm sure you could of searched for it but here it is - just dial the code to check balance once installed

Did you use system app installer (playstore) to install as you may get application not installed if you try to install normally

I usually just push it through /system/app, then change permissions. Is the system app installer necessary mate?

As mentioned above you can push and change permissions too - I just use system app installer as its quicker and automates that proccess to save you changing the permissions yourself
It also comes in handy if the apk has lib files to save you extracting them and pushing them too (the stk doesnt have libs - you can just push the apk to system and change permissions and it will work)

you also need to set the correct permissions for the apk - its rw-r-r (use a root browser to changer permissions)
another way is to delete the apk from the system/app folder and then install it using system app installer (playstore)
then restart
Still Not Installed
