Which ROMS would you recommend? - Desire HD General

Hello all,
no, this is not another "which is a best ROM" topic I know the best ROM is stock
I recently rooted again my DHD and started playing with ROMs. I would like to try some different ROMs - of every "kind", i.e. no need to try all ICS Sense ROMS, since they're all similar (1st ROM i tried was Revolution and I couldn't tell the difference between it and stock)
So, my question is which ROMS should I try that are different - like unique have different feel to them, and pretty stable? I'd like one MIUI, one Sense 4, cyanogen etc? (is that all?)
thanx,
D.

These kind of posts are becoming viral lately.
Can't understand why.
Do you people read, at least, the other posts titles already in here?

MIUI v4, CM7/9/10 (Gingerbread, ICS & Jelly Bean respectively) BlackIce1.60 is my daily, Virtuous Infinity (Sense 4 with working Camera)

thanks don't hurt ya know?

Well my question was (as I stated) NOT which is the best ROM. I just wanted some experienced users to tell me which kinds of ROMs there are, I'm not gonna try all of them. That is what the boards are for, aren't they? To exchange tips and experiences... If you mind, why don't you just skip the post?

NeroXL sense 3.6 ROM by Paschal.
Omnivision sensors working after flashing the fix. And better battery life. Personally like sense 3.6 more than sense 4.

I am a big fan of Randoms Jelly Bean rom currently in beta9. The features blow ICS out of the water in my opinion. I love it =) It's worth a look.

I'm running RandomBlame's JellyBean beta 9 with no problems and I'm loving it currently. Ice Cold Sandwich is my favorite ICS ROM. I didn't find a sense ROM I liked. Revolution was laggy and not my cup of tea. I'm pretty happy with basic android anyway.

See the fun for being rooted is to try them all your self ,why would you skip all the excitement? Go on try them your self

Except that there arent that many roms to try?
There's 1 jelly bean ROM - jelly time
1 miui ICS ROM - MIUI.us
1 Aosp ROM - existz aospx
2 AOKP ROMS Paranoid android /ice cold
1 sense 4 rom. By virtuous
1 sense 4a rom.
All these have a pretty different experience though.I'm not sure if its wrong to create such posts, I just think it would be better/more efficient to just check put the ROM threads yourself. They probably more detailed than the info you can find here anyway

Virtuous Infinity v1.31.0 Alpha2 :laugh::good:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1792074&page=112

I would recommend
Nero XL (sense 3.6/ICS. Camera works for all sensors, very very stable, but pure stock)
MIUI RD (Or any of the gingerbread ones, I didn't think the ICS one was worth it)
Energy (of all the GB/Sense 3.5 ROMs I stayed with this for 2 weeks, pretty damn long for a flashaholic like me).
Other ROMs I don't use a lot, but I hear good things from/I've used with success but I didn't keep: Runny Xtreme Surprise, ARHD, Ice Cold Sandwich, Redemption, Virtuous Sense 4/ICS, Jellytime.
BTW, check this thread out for a speed test of different ROMs. All creds to Apuabest
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1791803

My chioce was : IceColdSandwich, Virtuous Infinity, CyanogenMod 7.2 NIGHTIES (all was ok, best rom, imho, but i like ICS UI style), and JellyTime (some bugs, but battery life is amazing).
There is no sense 3 roms, because I hate HTC Sense 3 UI; I can't help witch choosing sense 3 rom, sorry.

Types of ROMs
This is my list:
1. Existz AOSP IceCreamSandwich for AOSP ROMs
2. Virtuous Infinity v1.31.0 Alpha2 for SENSE 4 ROMs
Existz ROM is bug free (at least for my experience)
The Virtuous ROM is very beautiful (SENSE 4 is fantastic), but for DHD bluetooth audio doesn't work during phone calls.

XGS series by krisjanne, it's very good ROM

New to G2, question.

Hey guys,
I'm coming from the Optimus T and am expecting my G2 via UPS tomorrow. I was wondering, what's the best sense rom out there right now? I don't mind if Rosie doesn't rotate with landscape but that would make it better.
Thanks in advance,
Future G2 User.

Sense is kinda glitchy you should just use CM7
Cyanogen is great right now. I tried the Virtuous Sense one but it was too buggy

Never saw any bugs on Virtuous (its mostly stock 1.85 ROM, with a few added features), CM7 on the other hand, had bugs when I used it. It was a while back, but people on here still say CM7 has its share of minor glitches; although its cutting edge, and lots of features, which is why it appeals to so many.
On the other hand, Sense ROMs take up more memory and CPU resources, especially the launcher. So Sense ROMs tend to be a little laggy compared to AOSP (maybe that is what the previous 2 posts mean by "glitchy" and "buggy"). Unless you are already set on getting a Sense ROM, I'd say give the stock AOSP ROM a chance, and see how you like it.
If you still want to try a Sense ROM, Virtuous is the most stable. But its still Froyo based. If you want a Gingerbread Sense ROM, there is lots to choose from, and I can't really say what's "best". Virtuous Fusion is the only GB based Sense ROM I've tried, and while the new Sense 3.0 has some cool features, the constant reloading of the launcher was pretty much a deal breaker. Gingerbread ROMs are basically all ports (and therefore have bugs), and will probably remain that way until HTC releases the "official" Sense Gingerbread ROM, so the developers get their hands on it.

When the official gingerbread ROM comes out, will we have to do anything special to flash it or would it be the same as flashing any other custom ROM?

you do the same thing you do with flashing any custom rom, but I do suggest you wait for the one that is pre-rooted. (aka wait for it to be released on XDA prepped for flashing)
I tried the official Gingerbread leak for a bit last week. Its just a *touch* slower than CM7 and had some really annoying quirks about it. Back to CM7 I went, and I couldn't be happier.
Welcome! I would recommend the following roms if you are looking for stable and (relatively) bug free roms.
AOSP: Virtuous G-Lite 1.0.1, this is a Gingerbread build
Sense: Virtuous 1.0.2, this is a Froyo build
Both are from the same dev.
They have a GB version of sense called Virtuous Fusion, but I found that build to be a tad slow with the launcher reloading often.
Have fun!

What is the "best" ROM, what has what?

Hey Guys & Girls,
I have a HTC Desire Z, I am currently running the MIUI Osimod ROM and it's starting to lag plus there are a few little things what bug me and annoy me however it is quite a good ROM
I'm looking for a "better" ROM, I don't know how to pick between each ROM, if there was 2 or 3 ROM's I would of simply tried each one but there are LOADS of ROM's.
I wish there was a rule and a specific topic layout enabling novices to see the major differences between ROM's because its so hard, a simple tickbox system would be good enough to help compare.
If you have any suggestions for a ROM for me to use, tell me your favourite ROM and why you think it's better than others or the reasons you like it over others...
If you could do this, it would be much appreciated
Thanks

Meaning, I understand and know its personal opinions / user preference and am saying "best" not as in which ones the fastest, most features...etc but want to know what ROM's people are using and what they like about them.

Well you should change the thread name from the best rom to your fav rom. Also you could check out reviews on each rom to learn more, you could also read the threads for each rom to get ppls opinions

If you try and flash all of them and experiment them out, you'll find out which one you like the best.
I prefer the sense based widgets, so I stick more with the sense-rom sides.
I have always been a CM user, but with the DZ I've felt that I don't really need CM or CM based roms because it's speedy enough on sense. Can't say for sure with virtuous unity, feels like it uses a bit more resources and battery. But that's just my opinion.
how come there is no poll somewhere that shows how many ppl are at what rom...
anyways its definitely a personal preference... i went from Sense 2.0 to CM to OSI_MIUI and now back at Sense 3... virtuous unity is stable and fast enough (with overclocking) havn't had any problems with it...

'tons of bugs'? Such as?
I moved away from Unity when it moved to Sense 3.0 because it was so unstable on my DZ - I guess because of the memory requirements.
I used Virtuous Sense 2 for a good few weeks, but I really wanted Sense 3.
Tried a few others (doubleshot, Honeysense etc.) but now Unity 2.37 is out I have had barely any problems - fully recommended.
I've used them all and Bulletproof's MIUI Rom is the best in my opinion. Then again it all comes down to preference.

I actually enjoy these types of threads because it keeps us users on our toes. At the same time, if the Dev's browse these threads, perhaps they'll be able to compare their featureset with another ROM's featureset. That being said, here is my opinion if you haven't already chosen a ROM yet.
Sense: I LOVE SenseUI. The native Facebook integration, intelligent dialer and the host of intuitive widgets is great to have. It is THE go-to ROM if you want a plug-and-play ROM. Setup time is minimal and though Sense does take up more resources than say CM, AOSP-based or MIUI, it is the tradeoff you make to have convenience. My SenseUI recommendation would be Virtuous Sense 2.0 hands down. Doubleshot and Expresso ports are nice but they're not true SenseUI. SenseUI 3.0 (i.e. Virtuous Unity, etc...) is nice but you need to sacrifice more than system resources to run that properly (i.e. if you have the G2, you need to convert to the DesireZ HBOOT; might have to OC more to get SenseUI 3.0 to run smoother, etc...).
AOSP: I ran AOSP based ROM's in the past and the best advantage is SPEED. A typical AOSP ROM is about 1/3 the size of the equivalent SenseUI ROM so you'll have tons of space to hold your apps and other stuff. AOSP is nice if you have a specific app to use for your different types of integration. My recommendation for AOSP based ROMs would be either CM7 (Haven't used before) or Virtuous G-Lite (Used and loved). The only reason I left AOSP (for now) is because I want the Facebook and other types of integration and convenience that SenseUI offers in one package rather than find equivalent apps to do the same thing.
MIUI: Think of this as AOSP with an iPhone-esque skin; easily customizable from a UI standpoint. This makes sense because MIUI stands for "My UI" according to my research. Alot of the features in the various MIUI builds are similar to that of AOSP ROMs just with added UI customizeability. Each flavor does add or subtract some features, but the baseline experience should be similar throughout. My recommendation for MIUI would be the Official MIUI build for the DesireZ/G2 from MIUI.us.
It seems that you understand (surprising that many don't) that whether you like or dislike a ROM is completely personal. Myself, for example, love to have SenseUI. Others will swear profanity at SenseUI and kick my arse for loving it. I hope you can find the ROM that suits you!
EDIT: Added links for your convenience.
I agree with everything you stated, ad I have tried all ROMs uve stated. I also love sense ui and features hence stuck to virtuous sense 2.0. If it wasnt for that i would straight head to miui as it then be customized to my demand.

I'll post some pictures in the dev section about my bugs. I hope its something easy to fix because so far is the fastest rom I've tried.
Been trying to find a ROM that lasts the whole day, and not even g-lite lasted me more than 12 hours. Not sure why since all I do is text, run on edge all the time, below 50% brightness, no background data.
I tried these ones from virtuous 'cause I like Sense much. But... they had same "feature", after few days and software updates I started to get force closes from acore and gapps and couldn't use UI/phone at all. Even rebooting to recovery was pain in the ass. I tried factoryreset and even re-install on top of old one without wipe, but didn't help. CM7 going strong and steady now.
I hate to be repetitious, but as long as these "best ROM" threads keep popping up, I'll keep saying it. OP mentions "favorite ROM" in the body of his post, but "best ROM" in the title. Really, "favorite" is a better terms, as there is no "best" ROM. Everyone has different needs, tastes, and preferences. Calling one "best" or "better" than others is an insult to the generous devs who work so hard making these ROMs for us.

You can find all in the development thread. Find your own preference. You can flash new ROM anytime anywhere.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
Look in the Desire HD ROM section for all ROMs.
I have no experience of the Cyanogenmod ROMS, but you can also consider the Revolution and LeeDroid ROMs. They are well built and stable, and you can choose versions with or without Sense.
Order the posts in that section by number of posts, and you´ll quickly see which are the most popular ROMs.
Popularity does not = the best choice for your specific needs. I´d suggest flash a Rom, play with it for an hour (don´t bother customising), try another, and so on.
In terms of performance, battery drain, read through the threads to get a feeling. The most popular ROMs shouldn´t give you problems there anyway, they're all tuneable via overclock settings.
The more you customise the first ROM, the less you´ll want to change
Take a Titanium Backup of all apps and data, then for example to get everything across follow this guide carefully: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/pr...an-install-restore-using-titanium-backup.html
Bear in mind the data structure in the new ROM will probably be different from your current one, so it makes sense to follow those steps carefully.
To give DHD / Rom newcomers a better idea and a little inspiration..
List of current XDA roms.
Some rom screenshots.
(Sorry for the plug to my own site but it was made to help people with exactly your question.)
CyanogenMod is the most popular one and most people use it (including newcomers).
But I'm using MIUI.US 1.9.2 and I do recommend it. It runs smooth and stable, with good performance and battery life.
It's all to your decision though. Not every roms are suitable for everyone. You can take a look at the comments and reviews.
You may also download different roms through ROM Manager app from market.
I think the most stable and smooth rom is ARHD 5.2.6. It is fully stock with Sense 2.1. If You want Sense 3.0, try VU 2.35. It isn't so smooth as ARHD, but have better battery life and of course full Sense 3.0 (pyramid base)
I think "Best Rom" is different from person to person...battery, performance, features ect...a good place to look is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1079108
ARHD 5.2.6 ...as smooth as butter really..with sense 3 addons installed...but if you really want the whole sense 3 experience go for coredroid v8 or virtuous unity v2.35...you are soon gona be a flashaholic!
Try the roms, read the reviews and make your own choice. Look for the rom that is best for you

ROM recommendations

Hi all,
Currentely I'm using Leedroid ROM, it's my first custom rom. Becouse of lack of any recent updates I decided to swith to some other rom. I really love Lee's philosophy and tweaks so I'm looking for sense 3.5 rom developed in similar to Lee's way. Two most important things to me is stablility and smoothness.
Which rom would you recommend me?
If you like Sense 3.5 based ROM, I would recommend you Virtuous Affinity (http://www.virtuousrom.com/). This ROM is great, very stable, and battery life just amazing compared to other Sense 3.5 based ROM I tried before this (ER3BUS XL 3.5).
But if you want stock Sense 3.0 feel without any crazy mod in terms of stock graphic and user interface like Lee's ROM, have a great stability, speed, and performance I suggest you to try Android Revolution HD (ARHD).
One thing I didn't like from other custom ROM for DHD beside those two are the other dev is trying so hard to modify the Sense interface, in my opinion it's kind of bad move since it's ruin the whole Sense experience, because not everybody had the same kind of taste as the dev. So, without any hesitation, I suggest you to go for Virtous Affinity or Android Revolution HD. They are the best.
coredroid is also very good, heavily tweaked for performance...plus it has got sense 3.5
And what can you say about Virtuous Affinity in comparison with Runnydroid?

im thinking about tryin a new rom while waiting for a new arhd rom to grace us. for me arhd is going to take some beating as its always near perfect for me. what should i try people???? thinking about enery roms as they where the best in the good old hd2 days?
Trying Virtuous Affinity, rock solid till now, maybe a bit slower than Leedroid 3.3.3, but it's sense 3.5.
I think that also I would try runnydroid.
best DHD rom
For me RCMix3D v4 i the most stable with sense and CM7.1 no sense.
The best Sense 3.5 ROM I have tried is Mikrunny, which is basically stock looking but has a lot of tweaks available. Performance is very good and battery is pretty good too

I know many people love HTC phones for sense, but if you are willing to go out on a bit of a limb, I would HIGHLY suggest Virtuous Quattro, which is still in active development. Nearly everything is working (camera needs a bit of work) and it is wicked fast. Flashed it about a week ago and I will never again meander to Android < 4.0

Don't agree. It's too unstable and it's rightly labelled RC.
There's just too many things aren't working properly.
Just went back to ARHD - the most stable rom I've ever used.

OK, so I am not the most experianced modder yet, tried Cyanogen last year and did not try anything since because of it. Then LeeDroid 3.0.3 on a recommendation yesterday, which died when using BT.
Stumbled across [ROM] ER3BUS XL3.5 [GB 2.3.5][Sense 3.5][Runnymede 1.22.461.2][20.01.2012] and awed...
fast and so far everything works as prescribed and expected
I am not sure if I want to look any further.
Only thing I'd like to mention, since the cook JSLEnterprises forgot: the ROM will change the FS to ext4. As far as I can tell, this is NO issue what's however, except it will completely wipe and reformat the internal memory (SD stays untouched) so make sure you have a GOOD backup before you start.
Thanks from me JSLEnterprises, some awesome work!

ER3BUS XL3.5 is currently the greatest gift we have for DHD, the DHD is never the same again with this ROM running on it, you can boost its FPS it to high heavens with ultra smooth rosie and supercharger
What is the difference between virtuous sense 3.5 rom and Erebus XL?
Yours truly.

Most stable Desire Z ROM?

Hi
Currently Im on Cyanogenmod 7.2.0 RC1 nightly 414 and while OK, the other day it had a HORRIBLE (unbearable) slowdown period. Even multiple restarts didnt help. Finally it seems it fixed itself but Ive looking for something new. I use Go Launcher if that makes any difference. Im into speed but I think Im going to go with stable over speed this time.
What ROM do you recommend? Also nothing broken (automatically discards all CM9 ROMs)
If you are into Sense UI, go for Virtuous ROM, stock ROM tweaked + enhancements. If CM7 works if you are into vanilla ROMs.
I have been using virtuous glite 2.0.1 its stable I had no issues at all and I get great battery life, plus its slightly overclocked. Gslim1.6 is also very good but I had better battery life with glite. Both roms are based on GB 2.3.4. Here is a good rom index thread it lists all G2-Desire Z roms

You cannot say "Sense", "stable" and "speed" in the same sentence.

Yes, Im aware of the list but I wanted user feedback.
(Im not talking to any of you or anyone else Dont take this the wrong way at all as it is not a insult to any of you). Its funny: People ***** (a lot) when their ROMs go bad but when they are great, they dont say anything at all.
WOW G-lite is VERY old...
and i like ROMs with features; stripped down versions are not for me
sound like you will be most happy with elitemod, the cm7 based rom although i have been testing out nik3r's ics rom and like it better than most ics roms, i would go with his gingerbread rom. should be all you are looking for and great support from nik3r as well
Are you looking for a gingerbread or ics rom?

Damn I'm still happily running it! If it works great why worry how old it is. It's a testament to how well it works as it sits. anyways I'm waiting for a stable cyanogen 9. Then maybe, frankly I don't want to mess with it too much I want plain Android and I can customize it from there

I don't think you have tried much of the Sense ROMs back then, or maybe you were doing something wrong. I have had quite a few stable and fast sense ROMs. Of course they were not as fast as vanilla ones, but it works, knowing that you are the type who wants more features in ROMs.

Have you tried a CM9 Rom lately? Don't let the Beta name scare you, I have found the latest andromadus audacity extremely reliable, and everything works. I actually think it has less bugs then my stock htc GB rom.

Same, though I'm still tweaking my SetCPU settings and such, I like EliteMod's ICS rom the most right now particularly in terms of features and responsiveness. I was trying the unofficial CM9beta13 for a couple days and that thing was eating battery like no-body's business. EliteMod seems to be much more tweaked as it's the same setup Nik3r is using for his own personal Desire-Z.
But far as stability goes, I would agree that going with a Ginger rom would be the best bet, ICS right now is still too experimental in my opinion.
I've never tried the CM7 version of EliteMod, only the official CM 7.2.0 which was ok-ish for me. The EliteMod ICS Rom to me feels much faster and responsive than even the stock CM7rom, and I much prefer QuickPix app the EliteMod uses over that slow-arse Gallery app in CM7.
I would recommend andromadus mimicry (ics) its pretty stable and everything works (for me at least). It has the ics specific flaws like scrambled text in app drawer but launcher restart fixes it. Using this rom for 2 weeks and had this text issue 1 time. Battery is good also

You should try Elitemod cm7 it has never failed me, all the features you need, speed and stabiity plus amaizing battery life. If you wanna go ICS get the cm9 elitemod, but it is still a bit buggy.
I tried a lot of roms, and I always came back to ILWT CM7 (not new versions). Sense roms are quite good but not on Desire Z (too small amount of ram memory, multitasking on sense roms are poor - even on sense 2.1 roms with supercharger script). I waiting for stable CM9 (and yes i tried all versions of CM9 but text glitches and manually change apn to send/receives mms, makes me nervous).
That is only my subjective opinion
Anything CM7 based is very stable. Probably the most stable of all. Stay away from CM9 or anything ICS on this phone for another few months in terms of stability.

I can only vouch for my own experiences but I find cm9 very stable, perfect for a daily.

Going to install the Beta14 right now, the ALPHA 1 month ago had a lot of issues... but that was 1 month ago. Will post back...
Try Quadrasense! Not true that rom based on CM9 is not stable....
Quadrasense is very fast and stable
inviato da HTC Desire Z
For most stable overall rom I would recommend the latest ILWT CM7. For most stable ICS rom I would recommend the Andromadus Mimicry rom.
