Nexus 7 and own3d.tv - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
i received my nexus 7 a couple of days ago, and i'm very happy with it.
The only thing that's bothering me is that using chrome i cannot watch live streams on own3d.tv
Now, i know there's no flash player anymore (though i know it can be sideloaded), but own3d.tv should be streaming in html5, in fact it works like a charm on the ipad with safari. So i cannot understand why it wouldn't work on my nexus (the streams won't even load actually).
I even tried using Dolphin HD with ipad user agent, but same result..
So, can anyone try to watch something on that site and tell me if it works? or if there's a known solution? i thought google was supposed to be the "king" of html5
Many thanks

REQ for owners

Hi, firstly I am aware that this maybe belongs to the QA forum so any mod feel free to move this.
I am considering buying this tablet for a while especialy for internet browsing and since my desktop won´t play HD videos from the internet, i thought this guy may be a great replacement. I am ware that transformer plays HD Youtube videos, but I am not so sure about other players.
So specificaly i would be very grateful if some of you guys could try to play the following videos from your Transformer and let me know if everything works fine.
1. http://navratdoreality.cz/?p=view&id=11524 You must first check the "Je mi více než 18 let" box.. don´t worry, no porn or something like that
2. second i would like to know if videos from the www.ufc.com site are working because i tried the galaxy tab and they didn´t work (full site in case it takes you to the mobile version)..this one for example http://www.ufc.com/media/141-WEIGH-EXTRACUT
3. and lastly theese two vids http://www.mmashareforum.com/seriou...bazzies-12-26-updated-new-source--t50401.html
Lastly I want to ask if you can also turn off the computer via the my cloud app (remote desktop)
Thank You!
I'm at work for another 2 hours, but I will check for you when I get home and let you know.
Confirmed, the first 2 play just fine, the third said something to the effect, video removed, and the last one played just fine. I used opera mobile to play them.

Give me a few on the remote desktop to confirm. I'm pretty sure I've done this on my media server, but my gf is playing zelda right now, so can't check.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
Thank You so much guys! Patiently waiting for the remote desktop.. just to let you know i want to play pokerstars in my bed via this app and then remotely turn off the pc. But good to hear about those vids working
I'll check it for you when I get home today....sorry, couldn't get access to the media server last night. Gf was hooked on the new Zelda (skyward sword), so couldn't get her off the tv all night.
I've used teamviewer pretty sucessfully to remote to my PC. I cant see you having any issues with my cloud.
Also, the videos played fine for me in the stock browser.
And can you also remotely turn the PC off then? Thanks
Confirmed, it does shut the computer down. hope this helps.

what? Is your desktop from 1990?
heh. I think you'd be better off spending the money on a new CPU or graphics card if that's the case.
3,2 Ghz single core and some s*itty radeon graphic card.. He´s 6 years old now so I can´t ask much of him
Anyway.. Thanks again to everybody and any mod feel free to lock this thread

Gaming and Netflix are a pain on this tablet

Trying to simply select a show in the Netflix app with this tablet is a complete chore. The new UI combined with the crappy hardware makes it almost impossible. Everything seems to move at about 1 frame per second when scrolling through your instant queue or the list of categories. It takes way too long to find what I'm looking for. That said, the actual video playback is fine. But this problem seems to persist in other apps. I can't play Tiny Tower because using the elevator after buildling 20+ floors is a choppy mess and takes twice as long as it should if the game ran smoothly. There's similar problems in games like TowerDefense and news apps like Pulse, where the tablet struggles to load anything. The Play Store is laughable, because once you start downloading anything the entire thing locks up until it's finished and it seems to have no ability to multitask whatsoever.
Why does this tablet exist? The hardware is ****, the price point is equally ****ty (I have the 10.1 so it's $400), and Samsung doesn't seem to care that ICS is a choppy mess with the specs. I'm incredibly disappointed.
I was thinking the same thing until I installed CM9
I was thinking the same thing until I installed CM9.
I was actually considering the Nexus 7, but am quite satisfied with the Galaxy Tab 2 7 now. With Cyanogenmod's announcement about CM10 and Jelly Bean I am pretty excited about the future of this tablet too.

Odd, I have a great experience with mine and it is just rooted stock. I traded in my asus tf300 for this and so far am quite happy with its snappy performance and colorful display.
Also, your language doesn't really help nor is it allowed. Having an angry rage post on a forum really isn't going to help anyone out so I would suggest calming down next time before posting on xda developers.
Recommend you do some research b4 you just start complaining about the device and software . I'm rooted and stock factory ROM and have no complaints. Get Titanium Backup and freeze or uninstall the apps you don't use (I froze them ) and the tab is now as fast and snapy as it should b . Also no problems with Netflix

My only experience is limited to my Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. It is completely stock.
Netflix works perfectly and I do not notice any lag when browsing for movies.
During playback ,the video looks nice, much better than my iPad 2 and HP
Touchpad(Classicnerd ICS rom), but that's probably because the other two are
10-inch tablets.
I plan to try CM9 once my micro sd card arrives in the mail, but I'm not optimistic.
But you guys really don't get any lag whatsoever in the Netflix app? I'm using stock unrooted and I can barely scroll through the different rows; it practically locks up. The 7.0 and 10.1 have the same specs, right? I wonder if anyone else with the 10.1 has this problem.
@Darunion: Why did you trade your TF300 for the Tab 2, out of curiosity? I've been considering the exact opposite. And I apologize if a couple of s-words offended you somehow; I know we're all adults here but if it's indeed against the rules I will refrain next time. I'm not "raging" at all, but I just thought those adjectives worked best when describing this very frustrating tablet. /firstworldproblems
I have the 7 and haven't had any lag with cm9 and almost non existent lag on stock. I have a friend with the 10 and he can search/play with nextflix just fine.
I nor my friend have ever seen the tab lock up when downloading from the play store either.
Sounds like you got a bad tab more then anything.

Found a video that shows what I'm talking about, albeit on the TF300, which suggests that this might not be a problem specifically for this tablet but rather the app's lack of tablet optimization. I'm finding it even laggier than shown here and sometimes I can't scroll at all (it also FC's regularly), but I may have been too quick to blame the Tab 2's hardware. This might just be an inherent disadvantage for Android tablets, and I'm experiencing similar sluggishness in similar apps.

I saw a review on the nexus 7. It wasnt laggy, but it wasnt as quick as the galaxy nexus with jellybean because of the companion core and the lack if iptimization in the os. With the galaxy tabs on jellybean itll be a lot quicker. That optimization may be fixed too, it could have just been the stupid companion core doing most of it.
I have yet to enjoy a good netflix UI on any device. Quality of hardware is a relative concept.

I use Netflix on tablets, phones, PC, and PS3.
PS3 is hooked up to a Panasonic 1080p projector
with a 133" Da-Lite screen. Netflix works best
on this setup... but it's probably because the PS3
has the best graphics capability?
However, I enjoy watching Netflix on my Samsung
Galaxy Nexus(phone) and my Galaxy Tab 2 7.0(tablet)
as well. They all work equally well, depending on
the quality of VZW 4G and/or wi-fi.

I've really had no problem what so ever. I can't stand even 100th of a second in lag. You might just have hardware issues. I heart netflix. I switched to cm because I'm a fan. Not because of issues. My 7 tab is books and video only. And runs like a champ

Netflix working awesome on Galaxy Nexus, Nook Color, Galaxy Tab2 7, PS3, Roku, laptops and desktops. When the competition fails Netflix has always succeed for me. Are there hiccups? Sure and they are mostly associated with the UI but you can't be all things to all people and devices. Thing is NOBODY comes as close as Netflix.
I have been using Netflix on my 7-inch Tab 2 for over a month. It's really smooth and I do not notice any lag at all.

YouTube buffering a lot

Hi,
I noticed on my Nexus 7, YouTube app buffering quite often.
Compared to Galaxy Nexus, on the same network.
Is there anything to improve this?
I am running stock rom and rooted.

I noticed this on both my gnex and N7... dunno why I have a 30Mb line... -_-

i think its a youtube thing. ive noticed on my evo lte, nexus 7, and my ridiculously over powered computer all on a 25meg line that it will only load so far ahead on videos and sometimes end up buffering. up until a month ago ish i would click a video and the whole thing would be loaded in a few seconds
My YouTube app gets stuck buffering constantly. I tried dumping and reinstalling but get the same problem. I remedied it by using a browser. No lag or buffering.

Weird, I don't have any issue with the Youtube app on stock 4.1.2 playing HD Big Buck Bunny in Landscape. How often it stop to buffer, for those with the issue?
The new youtube app suck. When you browsing in portrait mode, you only get one single column for (info, related and comments). The old youtube app 4.0.23 have 3 different tabs for each one.

It stops for good until you click the hd button. It will then start back up in standard definition and freeze again down the line somewhere. I thought I had it fixed by just using the browser but that freezes as well. There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason why because sometimes vids play flawlessly.

I got this too..doesn't matter which video..it all buffer! It seems like the video download is much slower n the YouTube app. I have tried different wireless router s and even set a test one where my N7 is the ONLY device on the network. I have 18mbps line.
Got to the point I stopped using the N7 and just used my Note. Strangely, this issue doesn't happen with my old iPad 2.
I have a strong belief (in my case at least) that the N7 is picky about certain routers... At home my YouTube app is an absolute dog, unusable anytime - thus resorting to the Chrome browser which is ok for non-HD. However, at school and a number of friends houses, it works like a charm. So I've come to that conclusion of something to do with the router compatibility...

If it's the router why do all the other streaming apps work fine? It's YouTube.

Just came to say that YouTube on the N7 sucks balls.

Necro-bump
Just wanted to necro-bump this and say that it's still a problem (despite tons of app updates since this thread).
Original nexus 7 constantly buffers via the youtube app if HD is selected. If I turn off HD, the video doesn't buffer nearly as much. My network is not the problem; I can watch HD videos on youtube with my computer just fine (no buffering issues). Even SD videos in the youtube app buffer, whereas if I load youtube.com in chrome on my N7 and watch the exact same video in SD as what I was trying to watch in the app, there is zero pausing to buffer (and I can see the buffer bar constantly grows).
I am also of the idea that the tablet is sensitive to router types; I don't know why this is, but wifi reliability on my nexus 7 went down at home after I flashed our router to dd-wrt firmware (all other devices on our home network have been the same). Haven't investigated this further. All router settings seem to be identical as before the flash.
Why I can stream HD videos on netflix (and other apps) just fine on my N7, but youtube chokes...it's a youtube thing--either the app, or something on their backend. It's frustrating as hell, and despite the nice form-factor, I'm regretting getting this nexus 7 as much as I regretted trying the KFHD...lol.

necro-bump as well i guess.
Still a problem running 4.4.4 on my rooted nexus 7 (2012) and latest youtube app. The thing is like 2 days old and I have no other apps installed yet.
The weird thing is that rebooting the device "fixes" the problem for like 5 minutes. After those 5 minutes it goes into super slow mode again and starts buffering at like 1mbit or less for 720p quality. Most of the time it plays 2s, buffers 5s, plays another 2s, buffers 5s again, plays another till I feel the urge to just smash the table into the ground.
It's like it forgets to buffer while playing the content it has already buffered.
Incredibly aggrevating considering this problem is almost 2 years old now and there are multiple google group posts about it, some with 100s of entries. All the replies from google are "alright, thanks for the feedback, we passed it on" or "thanks for the feedback, there is a new update, tell us if it is fixed"...

[Q] Help! I wanna join the Party too! (Browsing Problem)

Hi everyone!
I am glad you guy love the nexus 10 browsing experience.
But I am hoping if you guy could help me out
cause I am not in the same boat as you guys who are enjoying the fast browsing experience.
I just received my Nexus 10.
My browsing experience to horrible.
I did not do any test but from the real world experience it is so slow comparing to my PC, ipad 3, ipad 4, iphone 5.
but It is faster my Transformer Prime and a little faster than my galaxy nexus. (note not trying to brag what I got, (the tablet is not all mine
and I just have a big family )
But I realize some weird things happen while browsing. It is the slowest when starting to enter to a site.
For example, when I typed Engadget.com, it takes forever to load but while in engadget and clicking their stories it is super fast.
Same to Mangahere.com.. but once clicking the link in their site, the browser is really fast. it is in between the ipad 3 and ipad 4 speed
I tried boat browser, dolphin, firefox and Chrome. The weirdest thing is the infamous slow Chrome, everybody was writing about,
is faster than all the browser I tried.
Now I am really thinking I am doing something really wrong. Hoping you guys could guide me to the party.
Thanks
You could try the stock 4.2 browser... IMHO, it's generally faster than all other browsers (except maybe for HTML5 stuff where Chrome is the best)...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2006215
Well Im using Boat now after Chrome and its flying
I could not find the 4.2 stock browser
is it also called the AOSP JB 4.2?
I tried the boat and it is slower than chrome in my case
did you change the setting to make it go faster?
how many second does it take you to get into engadget and mangahere with java on.
it tooked me about 10-20 sercond to get into those site.
and going to xdadevelopers site took me 30-40 sec >_<
I LOVE the nexus 10 but the browsing is driving me nut!
Check the link in my post above....
Dolphin is working great. Try the jetpack add-on for HTML 5
guys
I got it all figure out.
Thank you so much for you help

[Q] Chromecast really choppy only with this phone?

Hey guys, I just bought a chromecast (really awesome little thing), but whenever I play anything from this phone to it, its really slow and choppy. When I use my HTC one, it works great, just like the demo yesterday. Is there anything that could be causing this? My nexus is on 4.3 and my HTC one is on 4.2.2. Suggestions? Thanks!
I know this probably isn't the right place to post it, but seeing as there is no section for the chromecast and this problem is only happening with this phone, I figured it was close enough.
Maybe it has to do with 4.3?
Note that the phone doesn't actually stream content to Chromecast. Like the Q, Chromecast goes out to the net and streams the content directly, based on instructions it gets from your phone. As to why it works well when instructed by the HTC, and choppy from the Nexus is quite the puzzler. Only Google could mangle their own flagship with their latest toy. )c:
By the way, did you get 4.3 OTA, or did you flash it.

Exactly, at least that's what I thought. Its really puzzling. I'm going to give google a call to see if they can help. I doubt it, but its worth a try.
You know my girlfriend and I recently purchased a ChromeCast also. I do have to say for everything this device does $35(!) is a steal, easily does what $100+ devices do, and 3 months of FREE Netflix! Anyways, I'm running a recent build of PACman and Franco kernel m3(or m2) and our Chromecast will work just fine but the moment I turn WiFi on the Nexus, it somehow interferes with the connection. The Chromecast becomes undetectable... It works with my iMac, Hisense Sero 7 Pro, still haven't tried her iPad or Galaxy Note 2 (stock)... Anyone else run into this issue?
With Nexus 7 and Nexus 4, both stock, unrooted, 4.2.2, I have yet to see any issues and am pretty impressed. Will report back after I get the 4.3 OTA to see if that introduces any glitches.
BTW, there is a noticeable lag on Chrome tabs from my MacBook Pro, but considering what it is doing I am not surprised.

when I try with buildin app (Netflex and Youtube) it doesn't lag at all, however, when I try to cast from chrome browser, not only the chromecast side is getting choppy, the laptop side is choppy as well, I tried with my windows 8 laptop, and also chromebook.
In addition, if you cast from chromebrowser, and make it full screen. you cannot multitask to do anything else on the laptop.
Hope more native apps are ready for this little device.

Well, at launch it was supposed to support the Chromebook Pixel. So maybe that's what he has. This is a good resource to see what to expect out of a given configuration:

I don't have pixel, just samsung version. and from my I7 laptop, it improve a little, but still not the result I like. wish that the cast will redir the chrome URL from sender machine to the receiver side, then not depend on the sender anymore. I believe netflex and youtube are acting like that.

Yes, but the whole point of Chrome tabs is live send and interactive display of whats in the tabs. That wouldn't be possible with a redirected url.
I am out of my neighborhood but using Chromecast (CC) on my VZW S3. So far I've found:
I cannot "cast" from my S3 if I connected to cellular data. Both the S3 and CC must be logged into the same network. If WiFi is turned ON data will turn OFF.
I cannot cast from my S3 Chrome browser. Seems that only works with the beta desktop browser.
I can ONLY cast from Netflix, YouTube and Google media and only if connected to WiFi.
Is what I am seeing correct or am doing something wrong?
