Could someone just describe what the stock recovery looks like, or possibly take a picture. After using CWM temporarily my one is just a android with his body open and a red triangle in the middle. Is this what it is meant to look like? I would have thought there would be more options. Thanks in advance.

Try hitting both the up and down volume keys at the same time and that *should* put you into the stock recovery.
That only gets me to boot loader. I know how to get into recovery , but I just want to know whether mine is how it is supposed to be. There are no options on mine.

I have the same thing. I don't know what stock recovery looks like, I used temp CWM to flash the glazed rom.
the stock recovery does nothing but boot out of the boot loader and looks for a .zip signed by google on the /data/media partition (guessing part area) then it will flash it.. If you have nothing for it to flash you will not see it doing anything.. What you are seeing is likely the so called stock recovery that is not finding nothing to flash. ALSO HOLDING The correct key combination will cause it to boot into hard reset where stock recovery boots and flashes the stock image back to device .. Hope this helps.
the above is only example. the exact locations could be somewhat off. If you have not flashed cwm or twrp you are on STOCK RECOVERY AND CAN only flash a signed google image.

Well the stock recovery can also apply an update via ADB, apply update from USB drive, wipe data/factory reset, and wipe cache partition. To actually get into recovery, you press power + volume up when you see the Android logo with the red exclamation mark. I've attached a .img file of the stock JB recovery. As Erica said, it can't really do much except for the above mentioned things (applying stuff from Google only of course).

You may have a bad download. Check the md5 sum or re download it and try flashing it again.

Restore the backup you should have made in recovery before you flashed anything.
Hold down power for ten seconds to reboot, then hold volume down to enter boot loader. You can get to recovery from there.
First off. You shouldn't be using a toolkit, they get you from Point A to Point B. But now you are trying to backtrack because your phone won't boot. This is why people shouldn't use toolkits, you are getting to Point B without knowing what you're doing.
Is it stuck at the bootanimation screen? Did you wipe factory settings when flashing the ROM?

I already unlock the bootloader ， but I can't enter to boot loader now , just can enter to recovery mode or restart boot loader ,power off or start.:crying:

If you can get into recovery, you're fine. Is this your first Android phone? Your first step after rooting is always to make a backup.
Anyway, flash Franco's kernel. It plays well with liquid smooth. That should fix you up. You will figure out how if you STOP PANICKING and try.

and not use toolkits! take the 15-25 minutes to read whats going on and not click one button to do it all for you
that's why OP is panicing because he didnt manually do it, a toolkit did it for him.

We should use toolkits? I never said a thing about using them. The best way is to NOT use them. If this is your first android phone, it is IMPERATIVE to know simple ADB and Fastboot methods so you won't fall into the common errors when people use toolkits getting them into things they don't understand.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1972508 is a guide to get started after you boot up, you can then proceed to go into the Original and Android dev forums to select your ROM / Kernel that you desire. I'd recommend CM10.1 (jellybro) + Franco Kernel R20. --- so after unlocking bootloader. Put the ROM, Gapps, Kernel on your phone storage using USB cable.
Use computer --- ADB... "adb reboot bootloader"
fastboot flash recovery <nameofrecovery>.img (download TWRP or CWR and put it in same folder as fastboot /platform-tools/ most likely)
boot into recovery (use volume up/down to navigate then power to enter)
wipe factory settings,dalvik,cache
flash rom then gapps then kernel (gapps and kernel can be reversed up to you)
then reboot.
done.

No problem. Just read what I said above, if u have any questions, feel free to ask. It's a very straight forward guide on how to unlock your bootloader. The stuff thats not included in there would be:
- Download ROM, Gapps (optional depending what rom you use. the rom says whether its included or not, if it doesnt say assume its in there), kernel (optional but recommended u switch --- upon flashing a new version u will need to reflash the kernel)
- Flashing Custom Recovery while in Bootloader Mode (which I said in my post on how to do.. basically download TWRP or CWR [you choose, i recommend twrp] and put the .img folder in the same folder as fastboot.exe)
- Use vol up / down to go to recovery in bootloader mode (it says the text on the phone)
- Wipe factory
- Flash ROM, Gapps, Kernel (gapps and kernel order doesnt matter. ROM goes first)
- Reboot to system
..... done.

Hi I did everything you said I flashed the cm10 gapps and kernel now its stuck on the cynogenmod logo I went back to recovery wiped everything and tried to flash cm10 and the rest again and still stuck on the cynogen mod logo have I done something wrong because I dont have anything backed up

When you mean wipe everything... just factory settings, dalvik, cache right?

I always wipe system as well. I used to not do that, but I found less phantom issues appeared if I wiped system.

Interesting. First time I've heard this, I will have to try that sometime although for the last year I've been pretty content with CM + Franco set up. Maybe when a new version of Android comes out, I swap over to that AOSP ROM for a little while but once CM is set, im moving.
So i got my nexus 4 yesterday and Ive always wanted to root an android phone and install a custom rom. So i unlocked the bootloader and rooted it pretty easy. I want to flash AOKP rom. i downloaded the rom file and google apps from their website on the phone. I went into CWM recovery and installed those files from the sd card, and it says its complete. I reboot the device and it just sits on the nexus logo screen. I dont know what i did wrong. Anybody got any ideas
It's normal for it to sit on that screen for about a minute or so.. How long did you give it?

3-4 minutes
make sure you have the correct files for your N4 or "Mako" device and that you did the steps properly.
wipe data/factory reset in recovery
flash ROM
flash Gapps
reboot

yeah im pretty sure i did that all correctly, but ill try again. Also for some reason when i try to boot into recovery sometimes, instead of going into CWM, it shows the android robot open with an exclamation mark on him. Any idea what that is

When you first boot cmw, it does not stay permanently afterwards...
You can flash it again by downloading ROM manager??
Or somthing else..
Maybe use adb+fastboot to flash ROM..
Just to try if the files aren't broken.

You can't flash a ROM in fastboot, you can only flash images.
You can flash the recovery image through fastboot.
I would let it sit for more than just 3-4 minutes as well.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think you have to format /system and format /boot when switching from another rom, otherwise it bootlops.

Hello
I have a problem with my Nexus 7. I tried changing my font using font changer. It rebooted and now wont boot up. It gets stuck at the X.. left it there several minutes..
I tried to do a factory reset using Stock Recovery but that didnt change things. I was on Stock 4.2.2 unlocked and rooted.
What should I try now? Obviously I can get into fastboot mode.

Hello, I have the same problem, but when I try getting into recovery mode, all I see is a dead android with red x sign and with no other option displayed. Where do I go from here?
Also, how do you flash stock image from fastboot? Thanks in advance!

That's stock recovery. You want to be in fast boot mode for fast boot flashing.

Sorry, but how do you get into fastboot mode? I can't use any toolkit to get into fastboot mode as my pc doesn't
recognize the device because it can't get past booting up.

Stop using toolkits and start reading. There are instructions here that walk you through the entire manual process.

i'm just curious, but how come you guys are unlocked and rooted and not running a twrp or cwm recovery? if you had one of those recoveries instead of stock, a nandroid restore instead of a system image reflash would have put you back to where you were before you did the font change as long as you did a backup right before you tried doing that. highly recommend if you're gonna play around with the system, install some kind of decent recovery, not stock.

Just rooted my N7 on 4.2.2 but can't boot into recovery. I just get the "no command" screen. I flashed twrp with the Nexus Root Toolkit and everything seemed to go fine but I can't boot into recovery. Is there another way to flash a custom recover?

you probably booted, not flashed the recovery. fastboot flash it via fastboot with the instructions above. or, to make it even easier, download the goo manager app. you can flash twrp recovery with the app. open the app, press the settings option, press install openrecoveryscript, press yes, then let it do its thing.

I have the same problem as the 1st poster, an i did what you said, in regards to letting goomanager do the work but it still didn't work

Read the download instructions at the bottom. Have you done that step?
The stock recovery will be restored on boot otherwise. It's the same procedure for any recovery (CWM) not just TWRP.

I'm running CM 10.2 and every time I try and boot into recovery, it boots into stock recovery instead of CWM. I've tried booting into it using the menu when you hold the power button and then I've tried holding power+volume down on restart and every time it just goes stock.
Any help/opinions are much appreciated.

Turn off your device, hold all three buttons until you see a menu pop up. Select Recovery and you should get CWM.

Every time I go into recovery, it sends me to the Android with the exclamation point, then I get to stock recovery. Even with the three button.
Looks like you need to flash your recovery again

Yep, and after flash is complete, power-off your phone and boot straight into recovery. There's an install script that needs to complete. If you don't boot straight into CWM, stock recovery will override CWM.
I didn't do that last time, that must be why I can't get there now. Thanks for the heads up!

Well I ran into the same problem where I just get dead Andy. I flashed TWRP from fastboot but for the life of me can't remember how to boot into recovery from there.

I literally looked for over an hour about how to get into recovery before I posted. Well I found the answer almost immediately after posting, power/Vol+.
So I flashed my recovery again through fastboot, powered up using power/Vol + but still can't get into recovery.
Are you on stock ROM? You may have to remove or rename the recovery install file install-recovery.sh after flashing TWRP... Located in system>etc on stock

You could have just installed Rom Manager & flashed the Photon Q recovery then flashed Philz or the latest twrp they are in my goodies.
Oh... I always fast boot the recovery...
