Why can't I boot into custom recovery? - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running CM 10.2 and every time I try and boot into recovery, it boots into stock recovery instead of CWM. I've tried booting into it using the menu when you hold the power button and then I've tried holding power+volume down on restart and every time it just goes stock.
Any help/opinions are much appreciated.

Turn off your device, hold all three buttons until you see a menu pop up. Select Recovery and you should get CWM.

Every time I go into recovery, it sends me to the Android with the exclamation point, then I get to stock recovery. Even with the three button.

Looks like you need to flash your recovery again

Yep, and after flash is complete, power-off your phone and boot straight into recovery. There's an install script that needs to complete. If you don't boot straight into CWM, stock recovery will override CWM.

I didn't do that last time, that must be why I can't get there now. Thanks for the heads up!

Well I ran into the same problem where I just get dead Andy. I flashed TWRP from fastboot but for the life of me can't remember how to boot into recovery from there.
Edit
I literally looked for over an hour about how to get into recovery before I posted. Well I found the answer almost immediately after posting, power/Vol+.
So I flashed my recovery again through fastboot, powered up using power/Vol + but still can't get into recovery.

Are you on stock ROM? You may have to remove or rename the recovery install file install-recovery.sh after flashing TWRP... Located in system>etc on stock

Thanks anyway, but after trying to flash with Flashify and that not working I tried an app called recovery tools that fixed my issue.

You could have just installed Rom Manager & flashed the Photon Q recovery then flashed Philz or the latest twrp they are in my goodies.

Oh... I always fast boot the recovery...

rom manager wont reboot to recovery

Is there a particular reason why quickboot and rom manager won't boot to clockwork?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Well is your rom compatible with rom manager and did you flash the epic version in rom manager?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I did the one click flash not sure about the rom though...ill check on that
Its the experience rom didn't see anything in the op about compatibility
Anyone know?

That might be the reason try noobnl's anormedia rom I'm pretty shure its compatuble did you do the one click clockwork too?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Go into the clockwork mod app and click flash clockwork and choose epic but make sure that the rom zip is on the root of your sd card not a folder. Yeah the epic experiance rom never says anything about being compatible with clockwork tho.

To be able to use rom manger to reboot into recovery you need to have a boot kernel that works with rom manager. If you flashed recovery the only way to get to it is by the volume down camera buttonv power button combo. Using quick boot or adb reboot recovery will take you into stock recovery in the boot kernel if you do this you need to select the flash update.zip line in recovery to get into clockwork.

[Q]CWR or TWRP?

I just want to know which recovery should I install...I'm new to the pad game and I just wanted some input...I just rooted my N7 and ready to install a recovery...I'm used to CWR on my sgIII...but I see that TWRP is the new recovery that some guys are installing...also is there problem with boring into recovery from the device? I prefer cwm touch which you can get from the site. Or you can flash the button version from rommanager
Twrp does work tho, but I've read issues with restoring backups.
Booting into recovery on the device in a way is messed up. The button combo method to enter using the bootloader hangs when not connected to a PC, so there are two options on getting into recovery.
A. Connect to a PC and use bootloader
B. With a working OS, reboot to recovery using an app such as rommanager or goomanager
If you ever flash a rom that won't boot, u need to connect to a PC and boot into recovery via bootloader (button combo).

I use TWRP and had successfully restored now a couple of times. Once was a complete device replacement where I restored the TWRP restore files from my workstation.
How I do my backups to ensure I can restore from a total loss.

Ah, I was curious if this bug still existed or not.
I'd go with CWM, quite stable, easy to use, and you can flash the touch recovery, speeds it up.

Thanks, I read somewhere that if you go into system/ and rename recovery-from-boot.p to recovery-from-boot.bak, fixes the bootloop...can anyone confirm this... thank in advance

Try it. Bootloader issue still exists regardless.

I'm a TWRP guy all the way. I have never had an issue restoring a backup, and the ability to compress my nandroid is invaluable.

N7 only boots into recovery

Ok so heres the story. Ubuntu released a version of it self for the N7 and I went to try it out. Works ok kinda sluggish, but I digress.
Went back to stock and it went smooth as butter. Now I went to flash CWM and it flashed like it was supposed to. Now for some reason my tablet only boots into recovery no matter what. I tried to press power and vol down to get into the bootloader and it just boots recovery.
I used Nexus Root Toolkit v1.5.4 to flash the image.
It's stuck in cwm?
Can you reach it via adb?
If so enter "adb reboot fastboot"

Tried that and ADB said there was no device attached. So, I reinstalled my drivers and that worked. Managed to get into fast boot and reflashed stock. I manually flashed cwm and that worked no problem. I'm now back on my own version of cm10.

ROOTED 4.2.2 won't boot recovery

Just rooted my N7 on 4.2.2 but can't boot into recovery. I just get the "no command" screen. I flashed twrp with the Nexus Root Toolkit and everything seemed to go fine but I can't boot into recovery. Is there another way to flash a custom recover?
Thanks!

fastboot flash recovery recovery-image-file-name.img
while in boot loader mode.

you probably booted, not flashed the recovery. fastboot flash it via fastboot with the instructions above. or, to make it even easier, download the goo manager app. you can flash twrp recovery with the app. open the app, press the settings option, press install openrecoveryscript, press yes, then let it do its thing.

Read the download instructions at the bottom. Have you done that step?
The stock recovery will be restored on boot otherwise. It's the same procedure for any recovery (CWM) not just TWRP.

[Q] No Recovery after Bootloader Unlock?(!)

ok so i used TowelRoot to root the phone, then the Motopacolypse apk to unlock bootloader. Root is fine, and iget the "unlocked bootloader warning" screen everytime i turn on my phone. next step would be to install recovery so i can flash ROMs right? downloaded ROM manager, dled and installed CWM, but i cant restart into recovery. i used ROM Managers option, and i just a normal boot. I try holding down the power + volume down button, and i still get a normal boot. any clue on whats going on?
Give holding power and both + - volume controls all at once to boot into the boot loader. From there press - to select recovery option and press + to go into recovery. That should get you there if the recovery indeed flashed.

The recovery you flashed isn't compatible with the M more the likely... Try these ...twrp for KitKat second from the bottom.... Try flashing the recovery with rashr ... Give me a second I'll find CWM

TWR is the only one that (finally) worked for me. THANKS
TWRP and CWM are not official for this phone, that's why you can't load them up through ROM Manager. Either way, nice to see you have it working now.
i just flashed TWRP successfully using Flashify (plya store) and TWRP 2710 for razrM from Dhacker.
total time to download install and flash - about 2 minutes
