Easy root your htc legend - Legend General

I found a way faster than rooting with complicated toools
(ADB is neccesary or it wont work)
1. Unlock bootloader at htcdev.com
2. Then push via fastboot...CWM.img
3. Download a program called Unlockroot
4. Connect phone with debug mode checked and click root
5. You will get a window with your phone model and click on it a voila....rooooted!
Hope I could give the community my 2 cents of knowledge

Did your Htc legend been rooted before following this method? I think it works fine with rooted legend's but i never see a legend user, that has never rooted the legend doing this, thats why i'm asking this? teoricaly should work becuz once we get the LEGEIMG.zip done we loose the root but i'm just asking... Did any Non-rooted user try it out?
Cheers.

Thanks
Easy steps, thank you.

I will get a try.

Yea, it is possible. You can follow steps in this link.
barrenfrozenwasteland.com/2012/03/installing-cyanogenmod-on-htc-legend
I can boot into Recovery afterwards.

worked
worked for me perfect!!! thank you very much....i was surching for this for a long time and couldn't find an answer...:good:

i must ask, if my legend can't be unbootlocked via htcdev is there an alternative?

No NAND unlock yet, but now we don't need to fiddle with SD cards and curse at the phone/wall/ceiling for hours while trying to get root on the stubborn Incredibles. Thank you so much Unrevoked!
unrevoked 3
How do I use unrevoked 3? Does it let you tether? I need step by step instructions. It's not like the first one that you do thru the phone so I'm clueless. Help someone.
its easy just download it and extract... find the html file and intall the drivers from it then run the EXE and it does everything
I spent a lot of time on this rooting thing and eventually gave up. And then I saw the recent message regarding the release of Unrevoked v3.0. I installed it and it worked perfectly! I am grateful to finally have root! I would like to thank you guys so much for your time and effort !
How???
how do you find and install the html file??

4G Speeds in EVO Still Available Under Unrevoked3?
Does the root that's provided through Unrevoked3 impact the 4G connectivity on the Evo? I know that was an issue with other root methods.
Also, is there a way to safely revert back to a 'stock' build (i.e., non-root) in case there are unforeseen issues with Unrevoked3? Thanks, folks!
Wifi Tether
I just used the Unrevoked3 root/reflash it worked great! 30 seconds had the phone done!..I did a nandroid backup and downloaded Titanium Backup, Titanium works great also! now, I download Wireless Tether from the market, installed and ran the app, it asked for su permission and was granted, the app was running, I turned wifi "on" on the laptop and it found AndroidTether ssid, i connected, all I get is a full signal with an yellow exclamation, no internet access! what am I doing wrong? I am using windows 7 Ultimate version.
You need a different kernel to run the app "wifi tether". You can get a custom kernel by downloading a rom like Sky Raider.
Got it working..., thank you!

Can't get Unrevoked 3 to work
I get beyond installing the driver and I get to a recovery screen but....an Adobe Flash window pops up on the computer indicating the script is running slow do I want to stop and I say no. About this time, Unrevoked shoots a message that it has stopped communicating with the phone and I should start over.
Although this is a great method, it would be great if someone would list the steps that this process is using so that maybe from where I lost communications, I can just finish. Or tell me what to do to get the Flash error message to stop coming up.
Thanks for any help!

Root help, i'm confused!

Hi there everyone,
I want to root my Desire HD, but I don't want to install any custom roms, radios, etc. I only want to root my HD so I can install apps that require root. I see no advantage in installing any custom ROMs, so I want to leave that alone.
What's the best way to go about this? I've found this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834427. Do I need to do anything else, except what is in this guide? I'm terrified of bricking my phone!
Could I brick my device if I made a mistake with the above guide, or S-OFF?
Thanks in advance,
Alex
Sorry for the question (no doubt it's been asked before), I've rooted my old HTC Hero before, found that easy, but this I'm confused!
Hi there. I'm actually quite a noob at all this since rooting is all new to me but seems you and I went after similar threads because I also read that guide to rooting the DHD at first. But after some further reading I discovered this is actually a much more difficult method of rooting (maybe because it's older?).
It will really, really help to look in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846248 as it explains so much and has many useful links.
But in answer to your question read this guide - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841076 A much easier method of rooting =)
Good luck.

I'm scared of doing the permroot, sounds like I'll break my phone if I even attempt it! Is there any way to ensure it will work?
Yeh you will be perma rooted if you follow the steps. About ensuring it will work, this is something I am now looking into myself. I'm getting the impression that it's possible to create a copy of the stock rom even without the perma root and using that to do a recovery in the event of a root failure. Though I would have thought perma root would have been needed to do a recovery in the first place....
I've got a thread below yours where I'm still trying to get a clear answer as to how to do all that. If I find out I'll let u know =P

Go all way through these steps from 1.1 to 1.6. Once you've done 1.6 your phone should be rooted. Just download the terminal emulator from the market and do that last thing that is mentioned to test the perma rooting. If that works then your good.
Oh just so you know the temp root option in Visionary is apparently completely safe and won't harm nothing because it makes no changes to the system partition.
Not sure about the WWE RUU. I'm not sure it will be compatible with your current ROM (Only thing I do know is that if it's older then your current it won't work). Don't know how to flash it either tbh, that's something I ain't found out yet =P

[GUIDE] Simple, Non-Destructive Root for Nexus S i9023, i9020A and 4G Gingerbread

Disclaimer
This may work on other versions - I can't see any reason why not - but the only ones it is confirmed working for is the i9023 and the i9020A running 2.3.6 and the Nexus S 4G running 2.3.7. If you use this to root other handsets then reply in the thread and I'll update this. This assumes you are starting with a completely stock Nexus S.
About
This works with Windows only by using DooMLoRD's excellent Easy Rooting Toolkit to root without deleting your data in under a minute.
Credits
This is a noob-friendly mashup of various tutorials and sources to provide you with root access on the stock Gingerbread ROM, and nothing else. Credits to DooMLoRD, for his amazing toolkit and kursk for the original i9023 tutorial that made me think Consider donating to DooMLoRD if you find this helpful.
Steps to Root your handset
Preparation
1)Update your Nexus S to 2.3.6 if it isn't already, getting the update file from here.
2)Rename the file you downloaded to "update.zip". Place it in the root of your SD card.
3)Reboot your phone into Recovery Mode by powering it off, then on again while holding the Vol + button.
4)Now you’ll see a triangle with exclamation mark, now repeatedly press Vol+ and power button to enter Recovery Mode.
5)Select "apply sdcard update.zip" and if necessary, follow on screen instructions to slect the update.zip file.
6)Reboot the device and you will be updated to 2.3.6

Connecting to your Computer
1)Download and install the Android SDK. This may not be necessary for the rooting process but is certainly handy for future hacking or mods that you will likely want to do once you've rooted.
2)Install the Nexus S drivers as detailed here.
3)Make sure USB debugging is still enabled on your device and you are ready to proceed to rooting.

Rooting your Nexus S
1)Download DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit here.
2)Extract the zip to your desktop.
3)Connect your phone by USB and confirm USB Debugging is still enabled.
4)Double click the runme.bat file located in DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit
5)Read the command prompt and press any key to root.
6)Your handset will be rooted and then reboot. The process should take around 1 minute.
7) Congratulations! You now have the stock ROM rooted and Superuser installed.

Further Steps
Now that your phone is rooted, you can use apps that require superuser access such as Root Explorer to modify system files.
You can install ROM Manager and use that to flash custom ROMs.
You may wish to unroot your device. This can be done as detailed by DooMLoRD here

Unlocking the boot-loader erases the phone. Hence the "Non-Destructive" part of the title.
Yes, this method does it in under a minute and doesn't wipe your phone, making it easier for people who are new to modding or just want an easy and quick root.

Does this unlock the bootloader?
Is this considered the old fashion way of rooting the NS4G?
I've tried the One Click Root by ShabbyPenguin with no luck

I'm getting a nexus s i9020T soon and was wondering if this root method might work for it? When it comes to computers I'm a complete idiot. If something does go wrong I'll be clueless how to fix it. The reason I want to root is to remove some apps I can't uninstall and also so I can do a full backup including app data. If this method is not suitable what is the best way to do it? A super easy one click method would be preferable. Thanks!
Yes! This Method Works! If you follow this step by step! It will Unlock the bootloader and give root access! I just rooted this morning ladies and gents!

[Q] What is the Easiest Method to Unlock and Root Nexus 4...

Hello Community.
I am new to the Nexus forums. Previously with HTC and Samsung Android devices. The root process has always been extremely simple and for the most part a pc was never needed with Samsung devices. I am now an owner of a TMobile Nexus 4 and would like to know what is the easiest process to obtain root on my device? Im not looking to do much, just want to get rid of some apps I dont use that are locked into the stock ROM.
Is there an automated root process (one click root) or anything similar? Ive read through the Root Guide but im a bit hesitant to use anything related to command prompts unless its the only way.
Thanks

Learn to use the command prompt. This will save you if you ever run into issues. As a nexus is a developers device you will not find any one clicks here. It is better to know what you are doing then for someone else to do it for you.

Install the drivers for your phone download su.zip to your phone download a recovery img to you computer open a command prompt type
fastboot OEM unlock
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
then flash the su.zip in recovery reboot done
From my BLACKED OUT N4
Look for the unlock without losing data method. Can't remember what it's called, maybe someone will enlighten.
The best way isn't always the easiest way. Using a toolkit is the easiest way, especially if you're not confident with using command prompts. That's the method I used to root, and had great success with Wug's nexus toolkit. Like was posted previously, rooting via fastboot is the better way, because you're not depending on someone else's work to do the job for you. Plus you'll learn more about your phone and how to fix it should something go wrong.
I find following a video step by step very helpful. I used this to root my N4:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sV355YEDzc8
WugFresh toolkit is the easiest that you're going to find. It even allows you to easily unroot and oem lock.
You should learn command prompt like stated but the tool kit is the easiest.

"So, I have finally updated my SHIELD rooting method to support Tegra Note 7 as well, so you guys don't need to install weird programs on your PCs:
https://github.com/linux-shield/shield-root
Rooting by itself is quite easy, you need to have adb and fastboot on your system then:
1) Enable USB debugging in the developer options and plug your TN7
2) Download https://github.com/linux-shield/shie...7.img?raw=true
3) In a shell, issue "adb reboot-bootloader"
4) In the same shell, go into the directory containing root_tn7.img and run "fastboot boot root_tn7.img".
Rooting will take ~15 seconds and the tablet will reboot. You should then have SuperSU installed and working.
Note that these are not exactly the instructions mentioned on the README file of my Github repository. That's because TN7's bootloader is not interactive as SHIELD's for the moment, I hope this will be fixed.". All thanks to Gnurou
4.2 Chinese root method
METHOD 2
______________________________________________________
Ok so for starters the tegra note does come with an unlocked boot loader so that a big plus. To root I followed these steps..
"There is another method to root the tegra note easily if you know chinese......
You may download the software called Jin Shan Mobile Assistant at the site below:
google it --> (zs.ijinshan.com)
EDIT: HERE IS A DIRECT LINK TO DOWNLOAD THE ROOT TOOL
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2Sc2UBbSHchb1pBUGpPN2N1Sm8/edit?usp=sharing
click and download the PC ver. setup file at right handside.(wrote 支持设备:安装win8/Win7/Vista/XP系统)
After installation, plug in your tegra note via USB. Press the ROOT大師 at the bottom left corner.
It will checked your device model as P1640. Then press "確定". It will simply root your device immediately.
:good::good::good:"
Thanks to hotsuma2000
Once I was rooted using the method above I installed Supersu from market and it replaced the superuser from the above method.. I then removed all apps that were installed from using the Chinese root.
STEPS
__________________________________________
The .exe file to download is about 30mb.
Once you download the file run it using Windows.
Open the program after installation.
Make sure USB debugging is checked on your device. (FYI to get developer options go to settings about tablet and press on build number until a message pops up saying you have Dev options.)
Plug the tegra note into your PC and the program should then recognize your device at which point you will see the root option.
Click root and magic...
The root program will install it's own version of superuser but don't worry I will get to that.
Once rooted go to Google play and download Supersu by chain fire then open it. You should then be prompted to install.. It will say another superuser app is detected and ask to replace..
There you have it feel free to ask away anything on your mind
If I was a help to anybody please throw me a thanks

Where's the info? Please post the solution you found. I've been digging through forum after forum and have tried 3 or 4 "one-click" root tools. So far nothing has worked. I really want to use Titanium Backup on this device.
UPDATE I finally got root on my Tegra NOTE 7!!! The process was a bit haphazard and inept but after enough tinkering I was able to get it done! Fantastic! It didn't work the first time I tried it, though I think that's because the program hadn't detected the tablet yet, but the second time it worked like a charm! It's a shame that PC program is in Chinese... it actually looks pretty cool! Thanks so much... not having root has been killing me, but hey, this thing's only been out just over a week... didn't expect it so soon!

Unfortunately when I click ROOT, the progress bar immediately stops and the process doesn't seem to complete. It did install some apps though.
Any ideas?

just double check make sure debbuging is checked... also when you run the program wait until it shows TegraNote sometimes you have to wait a little bit. It took me like two times before I was able to do it let me know if you the problem continues
Tried on another computer and it worked fine, installed SuperSU and cleaned up the extra apps. Thanks!!
Now next step is getting a custom recovery so we can do backups

Have not tried this yet but sounds ok.
Think I will wait for recovery as I want to try the exellent xposed framework on the note.
And then the wonderfull gravity box module.
Should be ok but safer to have a backup I think.
Thanks for finding and sharing this with us.

These instructions will work for the EVGA TN7, correct? Sorry to ask the question, but I had a thought there may be differences between the EVGA and AV models. Thanks for any reply.
