If it's anything like the google books app, it isn't an option.
I'm guessing it's to stop lame freetard just pirating everything rather than buying.
Those scumbags really annoy me, as it means I end up paying more to finance their freetard lifestyle.
Not to say you're crazy Peter, but some of us "freetards" are forced to pirate. For instance I live in a place where I can't buy The New Yorker unless I pay about 10 pounds for it, and it's 3 weeks old. If I actually bought it I'd consider myself a paidtoomuchtard. I live where there is no Hulu, or iPlayer, so again I'm forced to pirate. Today I wanted to watch Matt Taibbi talk to Elliot Spitzer on Al Gore's TV station and was forced to use a VPN because I was geoblocked. Yes I know I'm a rare case, but me likeee pirateee!
All that said, could you explain why, and exactly when you are forced to pay more for any content you consume? Movie prices have only risen due to inflation, music may actually be cheaper now than when I bought my last CD late last century due to ITunes (iTards?), and the costs of wired and wireless internet is solely driven by oligopolistic carriers, not the volume of data being pirated? Print media has definitely taken it on the chin, and you have a good argument if you were to talk about The Times' paywall costing you money, but before the online days you had to pay for a newspaper, and I can't speak to whether or not that price, adjusted for inflation, is markedly higher or not. It has taken many pressmen's jobs, reduced demand for newsprint, but in this it has slowed the ravaging of forests and the resultant pollution that comes from paper making.

Ok, so Vodafone UK is offering FREE SKY TV on your mobile until Jan via 3G. As I have unlimited 3G, would love to get it. Been in touch with Vodafone, they don't support the Jasjar (surprise, surprise). The only info they have to get it if you have a Vodafone 3G mobile, is to go to the Vodafone Live! on your mobile, and there is an entertainment link which takes you there. Problem is that even though I have all 3G settings set to Vodafone ( APN "internet", username "web", password "web") the Vodafone Live! page on PIE (Pocket Internet Explorer) comes up only in a basic form with certainly no entertainment link. I tried asking them at least for a URL, but they had no idea. Anyone out there know if we can get this going, would be just awesome on the JasJar's VGA screen!!!
Am I the only one that wants SKY TV on the JasJar?
In a word: Yes.
lol
No seriously why would you want to watch compressed streaming TV at a ridiculous cost per MB?
As far as I am aware wmp doesnt even do full screen.
I'd rather have a bowl of pork farms sausages and a sexual encounter with a rhesus monkey ..
But then I am a tremendous pervert.

That is offensive. One of my best looking dates was a rhesus monkey!
lol
And one of my best dates was with a Pork Farms sausage
When on unlimited usage, watching SKY TV in my car while I'm waiting for the wife to finish her shopping, seems like a good idea, no? Maybe better just to watch you on webcam with the rhesus monkey!!
If anyone is interested I answered this question on another thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33294
Did a bit of experimenting to get it to work, although I don't think I've ever used it (except to test that it works, but it's FREE - for now!).
Quality is ok, but it is designed for small res mobiles.
Ok, so I guess this question belongs more on the B&N forums but I also want to rant a little bit.
I bought my Nook Color mostly to hack it like everybody else on this forum. I am pretty happy with the results. However, I also took a liking to the B&N launcher and the whole ebook deal. So I would say I am using the Nook 50% to read ebooks/newspapers/magazines and the other 50% to do anything else.
Out of respect to B&N for giving us this fabulous toy at an affordable price I decided to buy my reading material from B&N and not amazon, plus newspapers and magazine REALLY SUCK at amazon (they are mostly abbreviated versions at full price).
My rant is that B&N is not moving fast enough at allowing international sales. I mean if amazon can do it I am pretty sure they can too. I want to give my money to them but they won't accept international customers. C'mon!!!!
So my Nook Color now sports a big amazon kindle icon on its B&N Home launcher and I now buying all my books without a hitch from amazon.
Does any one know if B&N is working towards allowing international sales?
Its ironic, in a world where you can pirate anything with a click of a button corporations and lawyers still make it difficult for us honest international buyers to buy stuff. If I have to pay more because I'm not in the US at least give us an option (I can buy the physical NY times in my country for $3 but at least the option is there).
On the same note I can understand why I cant buy music and movies because of copyrights but I cant understand why Doodlejump is not available for my country. I cant give the 2 bucks to the developer but then I can google the apk and get it for free. Who is really losing with all these protection schemes???

B&N is a licensed bookseller only in the United States, and that's pretty clearly spelled out in their User Guide, Appendix B:
http://img1.imagesbn.com/PImages/nook/encore/apps/mediakit/userguide_NOOKcolor_110425.pdf (page 121)
The big requirement is that you have a billing address in the United States.
This isn't by their choice - it's where they are allowed to sell the content based on the agreements they have in place with the book vendors.
Amazon has different rules in place which allows them to sell internationally. That's why, while in London, I saw many ads for Kindles in the Underground, and the only people who knew what the Nook Color was were Americans (ironically - employees of B&N).
Well, turns out I can buy from B&N being abroad. I just found my company uses a US ip. I changed my billing address to my job's mailbox in Miami and it worked. Sweet!
So it looks my lunch hour will be shopping time.
I kind of understand why B&N does not sell internationally, Amazon is a mamuth compared to them when you consider their other businesses so they might have more negotiating power with the publishing companies.
I just wish Amazon would redo their kindle mobile interface which is horrible for tablets and that they start selling complete editions instead of watered down. I do think their app looks better in smaller phones than in tablets.
Hi Guys
I'm new to XDA but have been a long time visitor, I have pre ordered a 16gb Nexus 7 and cant wait but I had a Question
As stated at I/O the Nexus 7 comes with several extras such as $25 credit (£15 in my case) and a copy of Transformers the Movie, so i was wondering if we are to receive the copy of the movie, what are the chances of Google activating Movies & TV and purchases in the UK?
I know i can download movies using alternative methods but it would be great if it was possible to use Google Play Movies & TV
Thanks
The UK can access movies through the play store already, just not TV shows

Thanks i can see that but i would like to know about purchases as we can only rent as of now in the UK
Oh, i see. Sorry
i wouldn't expect anything anytime soon, especially seeing how we haven't even got google music in the uk yet.
for whatever reason media companies seem reluctant to allow decent movie/tv over the internet. all the offerings from lovefilm, netflix, film4 and the like are pretty disappointing.

couldnt agree more about the lack of decent tv/movies
I have got google music on my htc one s.... although i cant download music i have managed to add my own collection to it :victory:
i don't understand the attitude of the film companies. it's almost impossible to get decent content online, and then they wonder why people download stuff illegally.
mate of mine wanted to watch a film, but there's no rental store near him and he didn't want to wait 2-3 days to get a postal rental. so he got it off torrent and the film studios lost a few quid. their loss not his.
at least we've got spotify in the uk for music - and if you can afford a cheap NAS it's a great way to get at your music on the go.

Another 4.7 star paid app on sale @ a ridiculously deep cut. It's normally $8.99 but is on sale for $1.99 until the 27th. Don't miss this opportunity, folks. This is one of the most sophisticated apps available on Play. At this price it's worth buying even if you have no clue as to what you'll do with it. It could save you a headache down the road or get you out of a tough spot. Who knows?
Personally, I'm going to try and figure out how to use my router to stream media from a PC on my local network so I can free up space on my device. I also would like to have my own, off the grid cloud storage... pretty sure this suite of tools is my best shot at actually achieving either feat securely. Of course, I'm sure it will be involved, either way.
Anyway, be sure to give the dev some extra love for the unsustainable price.
