Quick question -- I've preordered a Nexus 7 16gb and i wanted to use the $25 to grab some tablet apps on my Nook while i wait for it. Only issue is, the credit isn't showing up in my payment options...
Do you get the credit upon ordering, or is that when you activate it?
it looks like you get the credit once the new device is activated. at least, that's how it looked from the google videos.

We get Transfomers: Dark of the Moon, The Bourne Dominon (book), and a couple magazines. Plus the $25 credit, of course.
Question
Is everybody who buys this tablet now or in the store getting 25$ giftcard and films or just the one who are pre-ordering it in Google Play Store?

It says for a limited time, so I assume just those who are pre-ordering. Or the first round of pre-orders, who knows.
I do think it is good the credit/movies and all that will just come on the device. Easiest way to do it.
Strategy
In their developer conference they said that it is new strategy to customers buy more products in Google Play, but he did not say if all tablets have that 25$ gift
provided all pre-ordered devices will get $25 gift.what happens if the device is activated outside US,UK, and Australia? will there still be $25 gift in the form of other currency? thanks

When I ordered mine (Canada), it did showed credit being applicable. Anyways, with the amount of taxes we pay - I guess Google hand out pro-rated credits
Does the credit apply to the play store as a whole, meaning can this credit be applied toward the case or other accessories?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the free credit will show up once your card has been placed and the order shipped and it probably applies to apps or media. The free book, movie and magazines will probably only be accessible if you log into google play from the US or Canada, The UK or Australia the only places where legit pre-orders are available right now.
If you pre-order one and you log in for the first time outside of those countries, you will not be able to access that part of the play store and download the free media. I may be wrong and it all comes pre-loaded but I have a feeling otherwise, I guess we will have to wait and see.
Okay, so the free credit (£15 per device - from the UK); I've ordered 2 tablets together - to save on postage. One for my wife and one for someone else, I ordered it while logged into my google account and unticked the option that said to register the devices to me (as obviously my wife and friend have their own google accounts).
So how will it know to assign the credit to them, is this built into the tablet rather than via the store? Sorry I'm a bit confused and don't want to lose out on the £30 total credit.

Id say the first account you log on with will get it on each device

Unfortunately, the credit cannot be used for subscriptions or accessories. Sucks right?

Perhaps a card is given in the packaging with a number similar to a credit card number and when you go to input a credit card you type in this number so you can pay with it like that; and then perhaps you can choose between using a credit card or using the gift card.
Credit is given when the actual device is activated.
Credit goes to the Google account used for that activation.
Though I'd ideally like to pre order directly from Google, financially I'm currently unable to do so.
When the Nexus 7 actually launches, fat chance I'll have to patience to wait for it to be shipped.
Would a purchase from an indirect dealer such as Gamestop be a terrible idea? Thoughts?

I think they are only selling the 16 gb version if that makes a difference to you (at least for preorders). You won't have to pay $14 shipping and can trade in old games, consoles, or Apple stuff for credit. I got a $97 credit for an old iPod touch I got for free. They have a promotion that gives you 30% more than they normally would on trades that is going on through the 15th.
There are some other games you get with the device as well + 25$ google wallet. I don't know what else you get. Roomie is a store manager at Gamestop and told me about the deal.

The ones through the google site offer the same thing. A magazine, the Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon movie, and $25 Play credit. More stuff too I believe.
I want to buy the 16gb model but Google won't let me order online so I was thinking about buying it from a local retailer. Will I still get the $25 credit if I buy it from GameStop or Walmart?

Yep, i bought mine at local Gamestop recently and upon adding your Gmail account when configuring it for first-time use, Google will add $25 to your G Play account.
In canada futureshop and bestbuy has this msg:
Includes $25 of credit to the Google Play store, for a limited time only!*
when I click on it ,it says:
For a limited time, buy the Google Nexus 7 and it comes included with a $25 credit to spend in the Play store, as well as some great free content like your own copy of Transformers: Dark of the Moon.
*Offer valid while supplies last. Play Store credit comes on pack. No rainchecks.
The part play store credit comes on pack. Hmm. I can purchase a nexus 7 at a local (not future shop/best buy) store right now, but it didn't have anything on the pack. Does anyone know if for Canada it needs this on the pack or will I be eligible for the 25 credit regardless?
Bought mine at Staples (10% employee discount, sweet!) and can confirm that I got the $25 credit. :good:
Yep. Got mine from JB HiFi and got the $25. I didn't expect it so it was a nice bonus
I am getting a replacement Nexus 7 as my first one was defective. If I use a different google account on the replacement does that mean I will get another $25/£15 to use

Yep.
So I can use both accounts (even if its not my primary account) to make purchases on a single device?

I've got a personal and a work account on my phone and can use either to purchase apps.
Just curious: are non-play store buyers also getting the $10 google wallet credit? If you don't know what I'm talking about, add a prepaid card in wallet and see what happens.
Blighty my nexus in the.UK but took it straight to Sweden, now coming back to UK for 1st time since buying it and trying to activate the free $25 doesn't seem to be working- have tried removing my gmail account from device and re-applying but no joy. Should you get an email about the $ or do you just see it when you use Play?
My Google wallet seems active when I sign in?
You get the £15 when u first add a gmail account to it, (unless its stopped??????)
Try and buy a app and see if it gives you the option to pay by free credit, oh I had to put my card on the play store to get my credit..
Also free Google wallet credit is different from play store credit so which you actually talking about....

Thanks, nope play gives no option apart from credit card
Re-re-applied my gmail account and worked! Thanks!
Hey guys, since the Nexus 7 is my first "tablet", I'm curious how I can handle things...
So, to get to the point, without a CC, I'm not able to buy stuff on the play store. (Since I don't have one and the Gift cards aren't present, too)
So I'm curious, I have the 3G model, so could I buy apps with carrier billing (like I do it on my phone) or isn't this part of the 3G tablet thingy..?? (I don't have a Sim card for my tablet.. Yet)
Also, there are apps with IAP, for example, a file manager, which contains the "pro" version via the app.. (But is not shown in the play store as a stand alone app)
If I buy it with my phone, am I able to install the "pro" version on my tablet, too?
These things are quite confusing when it comes to tablets...
I hope this wasn't asked before, if so, please guide me to the right direction... Since Google gives me weird hacking sites as results..
Thanks in advance and happy easter!
P.S.: Or can I add my phone number and billing information to my Googleaccount, so the "buy via carrier" will always appear like it does with CC's?

You need a credit card to purchase from the Play Store, no other way around unless someone sends you money to your Wallet account.
You can install purchased apps on other devices if you login to the Gmail account that holds the purchases.

Try a prepaid credit card or a visa gift card! Remember they do charge monthly fees.

I will, since I know now that there's no "normal" way, thanks.
Also saw I posted in General instead of Q&A, I'm sorry and if any mod can move my thread I'd be thankful

whatever you buy on your phone will be available on your tablet (as long as the nexus 7 is supported by the app).
So, if you need to purchase something, buy it on your phone and then download it on your tablet. Simple as that.

I was a bit confused with this IAP, for example the file manager I wanted to buy does this in app purchase. And I thought I have to rebuy it when I download it on my tablet.. Since it's not a stand alone app :/

I use debit credit on Google play, sort of a new debit card that is set up with a visa card # & pin. No credit needed, it just takes money right out of your chequeing account.
Ask your bank about it.
Try coolapk, as a leecher or else use debt card

If game is from gameloft you can buy it on gameloft.com and pay with paypal
Thy started selling Google play gift cards.
Other than that, prepaid visa is the best thing, its also useful for amazon, PayPal... I got mine for free (I'm from Slovenia), no fees whatsoever, except if I wanted to withdraw money from the cash machine. It was a promotional offer, so look out for those.
Be aware of those 'prepaid visa gift cards', they cost way more then they should. For every purchase they could charge you a dollar or something, which is a lot when you're buying a 75c app.
Or you can ask your parents or some other relative to lend you their cc. I borrowed my dads until I got my own prepaid visa.
Oh, why would you buy a file manager, you can get so many of good ones for free like ES for example.

Couldn't you just buy a Play Gift Card from a local store?
Thats basically a pre-paid credit card anyway?
Or just buy a pre-paid credit card?
AW: [Q] Nexus 7 & App Purchases without credit card..
The G Play gift cards aren't available in my country atm..
I think I'll have to talk to my bank and make them an offer they can't refuse
Thanks to all for the answers
Edit: thanks for moving my thread!
