Here's a definitive guide for P7510 owners on how to install stock ICS on their tabs with root. How do I know it's definitive? Well, I'm running it right now with no problems!
NOTE: Obviously I shouln't have to say this but... WiFi only guys may run into a bug of some sort if trying to apply this. I haven't had any prblems yet. Everything works: WiFi, GPS, Camera, Auto-brightness, G-Sensor etc. If something wrong happens, then it's not my fault!
That said there are a few things going on because of running a P7500 ROM on a P7510. Like there is a signal indicator in the status bar showing no signal. There are mobile data options in the settings menu. The device is recognised as a P7510, i think you get the point.
Now to the actual instructions.
Step 1: Putting ICS on
- Create a Nandroid backup!
- Download & install Mobile Odin by Chainfire. [Redistrubution is not allowed so I've linked to his thread] <- Read that properly before you go onto the next step so it's istalled properly!
- Download the firmware and unzip
- Move the file P7500XXLQ8_P7500OXALQ8_P7500XXLQ8_HOME.tar.md5 to the root of your Tab.
- Open Mobile Odin
- Select the .md5 firmware you just put onto your Tab
- *IMPORTANT FOR WIFI TABS* Select Modem and press Clear
(there's no need to select the option of auto root or odin insall 'cos it wont work! )
- Select the 2 wipe options
- Plug your tab into the power supply
- Press the fflash firmware button
---------------------------------------------------
LET IT DO IT'S OWN THING. LEAVE IT AND WAIT FOR IT TO RESTART TO THE SETUP SCREEN
---------------------------------------------------
Done now your running ICS, but wait - you don't have root! or CWM recovery for that matter! :crying: Don't worry, keep reading!
CWM Recovery and Rooting:
- Download this update.zip for rooting your tab and move it to the root of your tab
- Put your tab into download mode
- Plug it into the computer
- Let the computer install the drivers (Automatic on Win 7 - unsure about other OS's)
- Download and unzip Odin 1.85
- Download CWM Touch Recovery & save to same folder as Odin 1.85
- Open up odin
- Click PDA and select the file named recovery.tar.md5
- Click start
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LET ODIN DO IT'S THING & WAIT FOR TAB TO RESTART
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Put the tab into recovery mode.
- Select install from sd card and select Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_10.1_root.zip
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LET RECOVERY DO IT'S THING
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Tap go back and then reboot now
There you have it stock ICS for P7500 & P7510 rooted.

Cool! It may be possible to install the CWM recovery during the ROM install by downloading it from the Cwm website and using that recovery . I'm under the recovery option in mobile odin and skipping straight from initial reboot to putting it into recovery mode and installing the root update.zip. However I forgot to do that so I'm not sure if it'll work or not!

If anyone has the issue where it just sits at the Samsung logo just reboot into recovery and do a data/cache wipe.

After pressing flash firmware, I have the odin logo on my tab for 10 mins now.
Is this normal?
If not, what should I do now?
Thanks for bringing this nice guide.
So do I get this right that there is no way to flash the rom without wiping?
Im a little nervous here. Did I just brick my device?
Why is the odin logo still on my tab? Wasnt there supposed to be a restart?

I used Normal ODIN on my PC. When it finished it rebooted and hung at the Samsung logo. I rebooted into recovery and wiped data/cache and it fixed it. You could attempt to reboot into recovery. If Mobile ODIN did it's thing you will be back to stock recovery. If that's the case then wipe data/cache and reboot.

I doubt you bricked it. Hold power and volume down to reboot into recovery or download mode again. If you can get to recovery and download mode you are fine.
OK, I rebooted, I have the following options:
1. reboot system now
2. apply update from external storage
3. wipe data / factory reset
3. wipe cache partition
4. apply update from cache.
Which one should I choose?

We've all been there. Just remember before you start flashing make sure you know which buttons will get you into recovery and Download mode. If you can get to recovery or download mode there is no reason to freak out. Also, ODIN is your friend. I recommend having a copy of the PC version installed on your PC just in case something goes wrong with a flash or Mobile ODIN. Glad it's up and running for you!
I can get the Rom running alright. My problem is that I get the rolling recovery issue. With the a 5.0.... recovery I get rolling recovery, but the Rom runs fine. If I install the recovery from Pershoots page which is 5.5.0.4, then I get no Rolling recovery, but I get a rolling Rom instead! Frustrating!
Edit: Installed Pershoots recovery v6.0.1.0, didn't solve the issue, but flashing the bootloader method from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1555984 fixed things. The bootloader change didn't work for me on the older recovery's.
Edit 2: Scrap that, I hadn't turned the screen off yet, that's when it happens lol.

Awesome! So CM10 should be fully functional soon!
Yeah, I tried the bootloader thing as well with the rolling recovery here. Wasn't a great idea anyhow, I guess we need to flash the bootloader from the 4.0.4 ROM, I just don't know how or how to make such a tar on Windows...

If you can get into CWM, you only need two more steps now
1) mount /system
2) install zip from sd -> su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip
Reboot and you are rooted.

Yes I follow the root technique of "hxxp://nexusshacks.com/nexus-s-hacks/how-to-root-nexus-s/", and, like "vbobmac", my phone stock at google page.
After that, i try the "rootboot.img" who give "Si_NZ" to "vbobmac".
And, like him, after that when i boot, i can only boot into clockwork recovery, and i can't go into "bootloader" mode.
Can I make my rom at stock into clockwork recovery?
I hope, it's possible to unmake this mistake?
In the post "[ROM] Stock - 2.3.4 - GRJ22 - Deodexed w/radio for NS/NS4G", do i have to take a rom rooted or not? Because my phone is unlock, but not totally rooted i think.
Sorry for all those questions, but i'm a little lost. And i'm affraid to make an error who will kill my Nexus S.
Thank you a lot for your help, i wait your answer before doing anything.
Thank you again.
It's great to see people, who are ready to help directly.
Edit: Now I can boot in "bootloader" mode, but i try with ODIN to put back at stock my phone, but the computer (Windows 7) dont recognise the phSamsungone.
Even when I install PC Studio 3.
Do you now an other way to make my phone work? Root or at stock, doesn't matter. Just if he can live, it's good to me.

Can you access the sdcard to flash a rom? You can do that by going to clockwork recovery, then mounts and storage, then select mount USB storage, then on your PC go to my computer and press refresh until you see the phone storage appear, keep pressing refresh for atleast 5 minutes because sometimes it takes a while. Then download any rom rooted or unrooted and flash in clockwork recovery.
If you can't do that and you can use fastboot, I'll send you a system.img and boot.img to flash.

Will update the process into a more east to read format as soon as I can.
This isnt a question anymore because the method I will explain below works perfectly. Thanks to Gjones77, Stilesja, marcasant, Mkasik, xBTx and chrisott9628 as well as the acs team for providing the tools needed to root the OTA.
first you need to install the OTA either through the OTA method or through the Google link method.
Next you need to go to the ACS forums and Download the ACS recovery 1.0.0.5.tar.md5 file, http://chris41g.devphone.org/index.php?dir=Epic%2FACSRecovery%2F
You will need this file as well http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/su-3.0-efgh-signed.zip
Edit: see the 2 options below first so that you can retain CWM on your phone after reboot as samsung put a script in their kernel that will flush it out after reboot.
You will also need to have the latest version of Odin, Odin3 v1.85.
1) confirm you have gingerbread EI22.
2) download the 2 files above (you can use CWM purple version as well if you dont want the acs Recovery.)
3) Put the su-3.0-efgh-signed.zip file onto your sdcard and turn off the phone.
4) Boot into Download mode by holding the 1 key on the keyboard and the power key
5) open odin and connect the phone to the computer, one of the ID:com boxes will light up to confirm it is connected.
6) put the ACSrecovery.tar.md5 file into the PDA area of odin, make sure everything is uncheck except Auto-reboot and hit start.
7) if done correctly your phone should reboot directly into ACS recovery mode.
8) once in recovery flash the Su-***** .zip file then reboot the phone.
9) If CWM does not stick due to the added script Samsung embedded in the phone kernel you should see below. There are thus far, 2 possible options, Option 1 will give you the Keyboard fix with a relatively Stock experience and Option 2 will give you a Deodexed Rom, nubernal, the keyboard fix and the GPS fix.
Thought id add something to this first:

You can also make your CWM override the built in Samsung issue as well as add the nubernal. To do this, follow the steps up until you get into ACS recovery or CWM and flash the .zip in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1339579 rather than the Su.zip file. This will completely fix your GPS and CWM problems as well as deodex the EI22 version you have.

I updated Superuser in the market and lost root capabilities. Uninstalled the update and it has worked fine.
I just noticed that metalblaster said "so just flash purple" after chrisott9628 said to use the ACS CWM. Does it matter which one you use?
i just assumed purple because it was odin that was being used to add it.

I can confirm that this doesnt not infact work for me at least. Ive tryed every odin version as well as renaming the file to a .Tar rather than .md5 as well as using the .md5 and the .zip files. Its no use.
Actually as soon as i posted this i tried the file posted above to try to get CWM and it worked like a charm. You need to place the .md5 file into the pda portion of odin3 v1.85 and check only auto reboot. If done correctly the phoen should boot into CWM directly and then you can flash the Su.zip file to gain root.
***NOOB ALERT***
I asked this in another thread, but its way more appropriate here:
Would Gingerbreak work on EI22? I used it last week to root EC05 and flash Toadlife's EH17 stability rom. It installs a slightly older version of CWM (I think), but it also installs Superuser.
Just wondering.

I tried it and when rebooting, it reboots into the phone (not into CWM). I reboot the phone with the 3 finger salute and it is still the stock recovery. Odin shows that the recovery flash was successful.
EDIT - Nevermind - was using a downlevel ODIN.
I tested this out with both the transformer and slider. No need to do anything complicated.

No. Unless u go back to a stock rom that is not able to be rooted. The hc 8.6.5.21 is the only stock rom that can't be rooted I believe.

Use RecoveryInstaller to flash CWM recovery.
With CWM recovery you can flash ROMs.
Good post here

Also next time, try not to ask questions that's not related to the thread subject.

Go here.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1346180
Download and install this app. Run the app and grant superuser access. Then flash the custom recovery. This will install cwm recovery. Then go to the development section and browse the custom roms. Download the rom of your choice, place on sd card, boot into recovery (shut down, then hold the volume down key and power key, then when prompted on screen, press the volume up key) Before flashing a new rom, u will want to do a full wipe first. (back up any needed data first) You will want to install from zip file. Choose the rom you downloaded, and now you have a custom rom installed.
Worked great
I was able to get my TF101 back to stock with this, really easy. Thanks.

This worked perfectly and it fixed my USB issue from flashing the repacked ICS update. I love that Asus made the App Backup tool so I could just restore all my apps without Titanium!! So awesome!! Thanks again!
This isn't working for me? when i install the .zip from the asus website it says its completed installation but when i boot the tablet back up nothing has cahnged and CWM remains ??? is it because i have a tf101g? Ive also tried flashing stock asus recovery and it seems to work but then when i reboot i still have CWM ??
Will this work if I flash the German over rooted ww-version?
Can't believe it will be that easy also I don't wanna brick my tab.

These ROMs pop up almost every day nice to see Sammy working on bugs and kinks before releasing them.
And nice to see the community beta testing

i don't think you can get KIES update if you are rooted, otherwise no problem to restore your backup later on.

When you wanna go back to stock:
1. Use Triangle Away
2. Go to CWM and format system, data, cache
3. Do Advanced Restore and restore 'data' only.
4. Power off phone and go into download mode.
5. Flash your stock firmware with odin.

I agree! I applaud Samsung's approach to this whole situation of bringing updates.
Even if these leaks aren't intended to be "leaked" I'm glad that Samsung is watching over at xda for tweaks and bug reports/fixes. Well done Samsung!

Closed, you don't need to open a new thread for every release, open one thread for all your JB nandroids or post them in the leaks thread.
I accidentally wiped my OS from my phone when I wasn't paying attention. All recoveries wiped as well. It will not boot past startup screen. Odin v3.07 and 3.09 both display FAIL when I try to flash the stock ROM back. I am using a G900P. Help?
How do you accidentally wipe an OS from a phone?
You're putting the phone in download mode for ODIN right?

Yes. It recognizes my phone as plugged in but keeps displaying a FAIL message when flashing, Also I'm running Android 5.0.
Try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...in-sm-g900p-oa6-official-restore-rom-t3022826
If you're putting your phone into Download Mode you should be able to flash a custom recovery onto it (such as TWRP - the one I personally use.)
Try flashing that onto your device then flash a ROM through TWRP - You can mount your phone and SD card onto a PC through this, allowing for you to access the devices file system here.
Then, if you really wanted to, you can go through Samsung Kies on your PC and restore back to the original TouchWiz ROM from Samsung. It'll ask you to verify your device and ask you to put it into download mode but not sure if you'd want to go back to stock.
If you need any more help, just ask here and I'll give you a hand.

It's quite basic, you simply just go into TWRP and select what you want to be mounted to the computer from the custom recovery. If you need more help here, just let me know.

Also, in download mode I'm not sure if you can access the devices file system through Windows / OS X - Never tried, but I'm assuming it works - Don't quote me on that tho haha.

No, that's what ADB is for, but the device needs to be booted for ADB, download mode is just for flashing with ODIN

If you wiped the OS, you have no reason for adb
Use my link to flash a rom, or use ODIN and a stock rom

I was wiping something in TWRP and I apparently checked the "System" button.
You still have TWRP working?
Flash a custom ROM
