Same here, currently optimising 98 of 136 applications...
If many apps running go to setting and developer options and put the background process on 3 or 4. But you should do this every time you turn on phone. But it help.
the update aint showing for me anymore.....straaaaange
I had the same thing, told me to update ota, thought I'd wait till I get home for wifi and when I tried it says no update available even though I clicked the notification telling me to update, strange ay

Received mine over OTA as well.
This puts the update to 4.0.4 running LRK
Quite a recent update with a date of 16 July 2012
Will check it out fully tomorrow but so far when not used (I have a S3 for main use) the battery is excellent. Turned the screen off and 3 hours later it's still at the same percentage as I last left it.
Updated OTA to 4.04 international unlocked. Seems OK - can't see much difference...

If you use the stock video player simply tap on the icon top right.
This will throw you back to the Home screens and overlay an adjustable video window which you can move and size at your will.
To get back to the video player from the window on the Home screen all you need do is tap on the second icon bottom left on the window.
Further, this also works with MoboPlayer.
To get the window to show and play on the Home screen all you have to do is press the centre button bottom of the Note. This then drops you back to the Home screen leaving the video running where you will find the same adjustable and movable window opens.
Any additional info on this new update?
I just got my note from expansys and after turning on wifi it notified me of an update. I went ahead and am currently running it now.
Is there a special way to root this new build, or can I follow steps that other's have used in the past for any ICS rom?
Thanks in advance.

Now I can do first part i.e. create a small window with video file and move it around but can't re-size window? a long press on small video window brings up a small "-" only? if i tap video window it goes full size?

Yes you are right sorry.... Don't know how on earth I mixed that one up!
The resizing only apply's with MoboPlayer.
There you will find underneath the video window magnifying glasses for + & - and at the end a red box with a white X to terminate the video.
P.S. You can also Pause/Play the video from the Home screen as well simply by double tapping rapidly on the video window.
Strange how the default player does not allow the resizing yet a third-party app does.

Has anyone else notice the 'dot bug' on the home screen?
if your on the main homescreen (screen 3), it should have 2 dots in each bottom corner indicating 2 screens to the right and 2 to the left.
if i go into an app from screen 5 and then exit the app by pressing the home button, it takes me to screen 3 however i have 4 dots on the bottom left - which is obv wrong!
I only noticed it after the new update (which i did manually)...i havent rooted.
Easy to reproduce, sounds like a simple bug and the developer of the activity needs a holiday
The same bug is affecting me - nice catch!
Same issue here, not so perfect phone now You'd think they'd test updates before rolling them out, saying that it is a minor thing but would be nice of them to sort it out as soon as possible and the Carrier | (pipe) issue too.
yeah i would think that they would catch something like that but i guess not. Some people are saying they are not experiencing the bug, mostly people that have received the update via OTA; then again others say they have. I still haven't updated figured i would wait for the OTA but i'm getting impatient..
Same here. Updated via OTA
I think everyone with the update has it. Doesn't bother me any; my screens are all different enough from each other that I can tell at a glance which one I'm on, so I never look at the dots.

Assume this requires root?
Did anyone just try pressing on one of the dots to switch screens, then going back? Mine had this when I first updated, but I did that, and haven't had it since (even after power down).

that doesn't solve it mikeybags, you'll see if you try it with an app on another screen, open the app from the other screen then hit home, you'll see the dots dont go back to ".." ".."
You don't even have to move screens or press the dots to fix this...
Just hold the background and move half-way as if you're changing screens and let go.
Fixed.
Why is this such a big deal?

Hi, there's something I'd like to check and I hope you guys can help me if you're running Google's stock ROM, as opposed to any other ROM like Cyanogen's.
You know how the home screen has 5 spaces, right? if you go to spaces 1, 2, 4 or 5 (that is, any space but the central one) and launch an app from there, then use the home button to leave the app? Does it take you to the space you originally were at, or to space 3?
Thanks in advance for your answer.

It brings me back to space 3 (home screen)
Yup takes you back to the main home screen 3, although the dots on the bottom left and right are in the position they were when the app was launched, that started happening after the OTA update.
Trying to root and install a custom rom when i get to spring break and have some free time.
The Home button is to go to the home screen (that is the 3rd screen).
To exit from the app I use the left arrow button (the first one on the left) and I go back to the screen I was before launching the app.

Lol about misspelling. I hate it too. Since Chrome came out I have greatly improved my common spelling errors. [red underline > right click ftw]
i have no idea how this has happened,
Used last yesterday to read the latest flash comic on the train,
Then went for a few drinks, home and today after getting up theres a line running across the screen close to the middle,
I gave the screen a couple of tap and the colour of the line changes, and after a few taps the line goes away then comes back while using the tab,
Currently running stock firmware without root...
Anyone have any ideas,
Have just contacted Samsung waiting for a reply...
I love this tab so it wont stop me from using but would live to know if its serious and in need of urgent repairs..
As there is still warranty valid, I would make use of it

I'd like to ask everyone the changes done by 4 . 1.2 that weren't announced by samsung.
1 new number format in stock messages app which separates international code area code and number
2 S calendar during write mode. The write on/off on the pen button has beem removed. In order to move to another month you have to turn the whole write mode off (veeeeery annoying)
3 wifi saving mode / problems - disconnects a lot
4 new changes to qwerty stock keypad. Quick symbols menu had a revamp of sorts
Any other changes?

when you've closed all tabs in the default browser and you get to the about:blank page. previously on 4.1.1, if you hit the back capacitive button on this page, it will just go back to the last page you were on before you closed all tabs to get to the about:blank page, and you can continue to access the previous pages by hitting the back button.
on 4.1.2, after closing all tabs and getting to the about:blank page, hitting back will now exit the browser.
not really a bug. its something novel that i actually liked, and sorta shows that samsung are starting to think of the little things more.

Im currently facing an issue with the Pen Detection within Samsung Keyboard settings. It's not working on the 4.1.2 firmware on my 7105.
The handwriting recognition itself works, but it's just not automatically activated when I pull out my S-Pen. Anyone else with this issue? I tried resetting the settings within the Samsung keyboard settings as well as Clearing Data within Applications for the Samsung Keyboard and it still does not work.
Edit: Duh. It still works. My bad. Turns out that you gotta pull the S Pen out before the Samsung keyboard pops out. Once it appears, pulling out the S Pen will not automatically change the keyboard to handwriting recognition.

And the battery backup should be the major compromise we are facing. It's about 15% lesser than 4.1.1, which isn't good.

I guess not every update is perfect. Still being able to rearrange my drop down menu is a big plus. Battery drain is a bit faster but that's expected of new features are added but it isn't noticeable. I just wish Samsung fully tests of their updates and provide a complete list of changes.

thank you for posting this up...honestly, the only thing I know in 4.1.2 JB update was battery life sucked very much.
and i was surprised that there are more listed.
No Back Jumping Animation
Ive found that apart from battery life that sucks after the 4.1.2 update, I have also lost the back jump animation. Now, pressing the back button takes you to the home screen/launcher rather than jumping to the other open app. In 4.1.1, after pressing back, the previous app would jump in from the top. Now that no longer happens.
Also the phone is a bit laggy, 4.1.1 was so much smoother. Auto rotation doesnt work smoothly and instantaneously.
I have read on other threads that doing a factory reset, solves the battery drain. Anyone tried it here?
Anyone else face this issue? im on stock 4.1.2 DLL7.

Mine always worked like the way you described. If you pull out the S Pen and hit a textbox, the handwriting mode is enabled, but it doesn't switch the keyboard when the s pen is pulled out during typing. I think it is working correctly, but definitely makes a lot of sense to switch it for you when you pull out the S Pen.
On ubdll3, drain seems to have gone away.

Just thought I would start a thread that could be useful about things you didn't know about your HTC one
I only found out tonight that if you swipe down your notification bar with 2 fingers it takes you straight to the shortcut tabs
That made me realise there are probably loads of features and gestures I don't know about?
Here is a list compiled from the thread...
1 : Swipe down with 2 fingers on notification bar takes you straight to shortcuts (Android 4.2 version only)
2 : If you scroll with 2 fingers in contacts, gallery, music, and many other apps, it scrolls much faster (using it in the contacts list goes through the alphabet, using it in the text converstaion list goes through dates of conversations)
3 : You can pinch zoom text-messages
4 : Double tap your Bluetooth button with camera active to remotely take a snap
5 : In camera, from the top swipe down and it'll switch from back to front camera and viceversa
6 : Tapping on the statusbar while in the app drawer or blinkfeed, music, people, and message app brings you straight up
7 : You don't have to pull up the lock or the time on the lock screen - swipe up anywhere to unlock your phone. Same goes for answering a call
8 : You can increase the volume on your tv via the volume rocker on your phone instead of the on screen buttons
9 : Quickly double tapping the home button brings up the recent apps list
10 : Three finger swipe from left to right on the homescreen brings you to share files menu
11 : You can adjust the brightness of the torch/flashlight with the volume rocker
12 : Hold down the power button and tap the home key to take a screenshot
13 : Holding the back button in the browser brings you to history
14 : In the photo gallery's edit>effects screen (under the magic wand icon), you can customise every preset by tapping and holding its thumbnail and dragging it to the "customise" bar that appears on the right. You can even start applying custom effects from scratch by doing this with the "no effects" thumbnail. You can then save the created preset
Also on that screen, pressing the 'A' button provides options go change the white balance of the picture (as you would normally pre-select in the camera app). A = 'as shot' but you can change it to cloudy, fluorescent, etc and also a couple of options the camera app doesn't have - shady and tungsten.
15 : If you have the camera app open and turn off the phone, the lockscreen will be inactive, meaning when you press the power button again you go straight back to the camera app, no need to unlock
16 : Select "Show Magnifier" in the Accessibility menu and you get a magnifying lens that pops up when you are editing text
17 : Long press home for google now (depending on setup sometimes home and up also takes you to google now)
18 : In Google play if you are listening to a song and have the album artwork up (the screen where you have your pause/play, next/previous track)
You can swipe right to left to skip the track it left to right to go to the previous track. There's a cool sliding in/out animation too.
The coolest feature though, is that you don't have to press back to get back to your library or playlist. You can swipe down from the songbtitle and your library of songs is waiting behind it.
19 : In the Stock Browser go to Menu>Settings>Labs to switch on "Quick Controls". Slide thumb from left or right edge to open quick controls and hide app and URL bars.
Also swipe across the keyboard to easily switch to the numbers and symbols pages!
20 : You can access HTC's hidden Self diagnostic tool by following steps:
Go to dialer,
Dial *#*#3424#*#*
You will enter HTC's self diagnostic tool
You can check if all the parts and sensors on your device is working.
21 : If you're watching tv and have the tv remote enabled and you're getting a call it automatically mutes the tv.
22 : There's a visualizer and karaoke player embedded in the HTC music app. Just click the musical note icon when playing a popular song that's on Gracenote. The app will automatically download lyrics and sync them to the song.
By default, this only works on Wi-Fi. This can be changed in Music settings.
23 : You can also set a different wallpaper for the lockscreen than for the homescreen by going to settings -> personalize -> lockscreen and then settings for the wallpaper lockscreen.
24 : Rotating your calculator to landscape provides scientific functions like sin cos and tan.
25 : if you leave the TV app open to your remote and you lock your phone...it unlocks right back Into the TV remote. I've also noticed it just turning itself on when I pick it up!
26 : There's a cool trick in the camera app.
If you touch to focus, and hold your finger there for about a second, it will activate Focus and Exposure lock, until you tap on another spot, which will turn it off again. It's a handy feature, especially when you want to recompose. (android 4.2 version only)

Not trying to rain on your parade but that is a Android feature introduced in 4.2.
You should go to settings and then display and you can now set the home key as the menu button when long pressing.
In the HTC keyboard settings, you can enable Swype and in advanced you can even set the swype colour.
Another one, if you scroll with 2 fingers in gallery, music, and many other apps, it scrolls much faster
Pretty known one.. In the browser menu, you can enable flash player
There are lots of fun features with zoe's after you've made them (comparable to GS4) like sequence shot, removing objects, and waaay more

Wow, that had stumped me since I got the One. Thanks for that!!!
Too bad you can only give one thanks per post
If you mix alcohol and water and put it in a sandwich bag and freeze it, it will make a handheld icepack which will help you keep your overclocked processor, battery, and hands cold while charging, gaming, and torrenting.

Also one more thing many have not realized yet. There is no file limit size when transferring files to the phone. No more FAT32 4GB file restrictions. That's the benefit of having ONLY MTP, but you lose out on faster transfers and universal USB Mass Storage support. You can fit a 20GB movie in if you want and if you have the space.

Just thought I would start a thread that could be useful about things you didn't know about your HTC one
I only found out tonight that if you swipe down your notification bar with 2 fingers it takes you straight to the shortcut tabs
That made me realise there are probably loads of features and gestures I don't know about?

Didn't know that two finger pulldown.
On CM it's pulldown from the clock, I couldn't figure out how to do it with Sense.
This is great!

the two finger pulldown is an AOSP 4.2 built in feature, the CM implementation is an option to swipe from left or right edge, AOKP has it as well, this can be disabled and the 2 swipe feature functions as normal.

Now I know. Having used CM10.1 almost exclusively for the last year and change, I sort of forgot that it wasn't exactly the same as AOSP.
To add to this thread: I bet a lot of people don't know that USB Audio out is built in and switches on-demand. I can finally use my phone with my Fiio E7!

You can pinch zoom text-messages.
You can mute your phone when you turn it arround ( back to front)
Ringtone goes quieter when you take it out your pocket up to your ear.

Wow I really thought this thread was pointless, no offense op, but some of these tips are really useful! Thanks guys.
Maybe it should be posted here the aroma freeze fix:
I know some people have problems shutting down their phone when this happens
If aroma installer freezes on you do the following:
1. Hold device's light sensor up to a bright light source (any lamp will do)
2. Hold power button down until buttons on bottom begin to blink, keep holding and phone will turn off!
Sent from my Tricked out HTC One
When booting into hboot it isn't necessary to hold both power and volume down
just power the device on and immediately hold the volume down and keep it held down until your in hboot
