no WiFi success after ROM update on 8125 -- ideas?

updated the ROM on my 8125 yesterday. wifi was working before-hand, i had included the DNS servers for my router, which is what i had to do to make it work!
did the same thing after the ROM update and cant get connected to any access points.
any ideas guys?

Does wifi turn on? (Does the left LED blink like it does when wifi is turned on?)
If not, then it could be related to a cingular cab - did you install any of the cabs from the original cingular extended rom?

left led does blink.
ive also gotten as far as picking up a network.
i have tried everything, i cannot get my wifi to work at all. i dont know whats up.
the settings i needed (which i replicated for the new rom) on the old rom, was this
I would select networks, MY work network, this connects to the internet.
then in the WLAN adapter i had to manual enter my dns servers.
thats pretty much it to get it to work, but now with this rom it wont

Hi NG,
I updated my O2 XDA mini s (German) from OS 1.3.4.2 to 2.16.9.1. (Radio 02.07.10 included). To be honest, I was never really happy with the quality and reliabilty of the radio. 4 out of 5 times it did work, but once in a while, especially while roaming, it gave me a headache. After unlocking and updating to the new version, WLAN looks to be working quite well, at least for connecting to access points, but it seems that it can't browse external websites. VXutils give back a socket error trying to access external (outside my home network) websites/Email.
Internal (inside my home network) connections work like a charm. Termincal Services client accesses my Win2003 Server no problem and I can also connect to a website hosted on my internal server. (http://servername:port).
Whenever I try to connect to external sources, the browser stops afer not successfully "locating" the respective server. On the other hand locating might not be the problem. Performing a ping to an external site with VXutils properly picks up the right ip address but cannot send/receive ping!
GPRS works as supposed. Can connect to sites with no problem.
May be somebody experiences the same problem or, even better, has a solution.
By the way I used @Work for all possible settings. The work profile is set up for both connection types.
Besides that, the new rom is really nice
EDIT Well after some time playing around, I have solved the problem or better the problem partly disapeared. In 'Settings' 'Network Adapters' I switched from Use server-assigned IP address to manual and entered IP, DNS, Gateway, etc. With these settings it everything worked after a soft-reset. Going back to DHCP and soft-reset, it first worked an now it doesn't anymore. At least there is a work around and I'm trying now some other things. All machines currently work with the DHCP settings correct. I will check and keep you updated if the problems comes from Server settings or from something in the PDA EDIT

i get as far as NETWORKS being detected. when i select one of the 3 that i pick up, i cannot connect. My own, pops up, and i get as far as entering the network key, then it tries to connect and doesnt.
this happens WITH or WITHOUT the DNS servers manualy entered in. anyone with some knowledge care to chime in and assist? thanks!

I can't get my WiFi card to initialize. After the upgrade, the card stays off. LED doesn't light. Is there a driver somewhere I could try to load?

did you change your Wizard to 802.11g. I found that once I did that, the card stopped working.. the setting was 4, but when i changed it to 8 it stopped worked..
it was some registry key. 802dotg or something ..

Did you by chance install anything from the cingular extended ROM after you installed the imate ROM?

Danrw. Concerning the registry settings, after patching the os I did change the registry settings. One already existed with the right value as shown in the 802.11g thread. The other one, DotG, I added.
After that, it did pick up a only G router!
As far as setting DNS manually. It is not enough to just cange the dns setting. You have to enter all the information and even after a soft-reset it takes some time to have the settings picked up... Use vxUTIL 'Info'-Screen to check the current settings. I did test wlan before and after applying packages from the extended rom. No change on reliability or performance on WLAN IMHO.
As far as I understand. Your problem is actually connecting to the router/Access Point. For testing please disable all security on your router and do a soft-reset before trying to access. Also since we have heard of several problems with model 9100 not realizing if an access point is available or not. Also change the SSID of your router and if possible the MAC Address of the router.
Don't forget to soft-reset and first try SDIO Adapter inyour pda with auto IP/DNS/etc. settings.
Another thought. Embarassing, but once I messed around with trying to get a new pda online and forgot to disable the mac filter settings in the router, which resulted in being able to see the active router but it didn't let me connect. After those two days I was missing a lot of hair.

I did but only the minimum. I trimmed down their install to the basics. I narrowed it down to one of two CABs. Either the gprsstall or EnableEONS. I didn't install either of those and I"m now back up and running. Of course, I still can't get it to prefer WiFi to EDGE.

I had experienced the same problem with home wifi network after upgrading my rom. I saw in my laptop that the key was set to 2. I went to the network cards, clicked on my wifi network, and under Network Key swithed the value from 1 to 2. I can now connect to my wifi network at home.

I do not know if my solution will work for you because I upgraded my rom to 2.16 but lets give it a try. I use d-link DI-524 wifi router. Start menu > Settings > Connections (tab) > Network Cards [I must admit earlier today when I was trying to connect my k-jam to the wifi, I did get as far as it asking me for my authentication code and afterwards it timed-out] --> select your wifi network [at this moment as I'm trying this out my wifi on my k-jam is off] --> Network Key (tab) > it was the key index that I had to change from 1 to 2. Before doing this though, go to your router's wireless configuration page through your webbrowser and make sure the keyX (it looks for d-link this can be from key1 to key4 or at least on mine) and make sure the key index you select on your mda is the same number that is used on your router for code authentication.
Also I noticed after resetting my k-jam that I could get connected to my wifi but I could not surf, in wifi setting on my k-jam I had to hit renew ip and then I was able to surf.

even tried removing wep all together. tried multiple routers.
i can detect the ssid's, but i cant connect to them. times out on the connect.

Mine worked no problem...you may already have had this suggestion but here was my process.
Unlocked with lokwiz
Upgraded
Reset before extended ROM apps installed
Installed total commander
deleted extended ROM
Upgraded again

i re-installed the CINGULAR ROM and WiFi works like a charm

Here's what I ended up finding out for mine. First, at the time I wrote this, I was running the 2.16 ROM. Now I'm running the 2.17, but the fix is the same with either.
Don't load the cingular add-ins GPRSSTALL or EONS. I narrowed it down to those two that were causing the issue. So, the only ones I install now are CingularMMSAccount, EdgeIcon, TimeStyle, WiFiRate4, and SmartDialingEnable. Thats it, and its all I've seen to be necessary from Cingular's little bundle 'o fun. Everything else I haven't found interferes with my ability to use the phone at all.

What does timestyle and wifirate4 do? I don't have these installed and haven't seen any problems.

For some reason, I can connect to the internet when my pda is pluged into my computer via usb, but I cannot connect to my wifi?
I use a netgear router and WEP.

When your PDA is plugged into the computer and active sync is active it will connect to the Internet using your computers connection rather than wifi. I'm not sure if there is a way to stop this, I would guess by stopping the PDA from automatically connecting to active sync on connection (I have seen threads about this around the place, I believe there is a tweak on the wizard wiki to help with this also..). Hope that answers your question.

So your difficulty lies when your NOT connected to the computer via usb.. Does the PDA see the wireless network? Have you tried the PDA with any other public wireless networks?

Have you added the WEP key to your PDA when you try and connect? When you try to connect it should provide a notification popup asking for the network key, this should be the hex WEP key, not the passphrase (the passphrase may work, but I've never had luck with using them.)..

Then thats the issue , ok, *grabs his phone and checks where else you can input the wep key*..
Start --> Settings --> Connections --> Network Cards
This should bring up a menu with the title "Configure Wireless Networks" where you should see a list of already configured networks.. these will generally be networks you have connected too (or attempted to connect to) in the past.
If you click on the SSID of your home network, you will be taken to another menu.. hit the "Network Key" tab at the bottom and add your routers security settings here! Once this is done you should have no problems connecting to the network..

I am having a wifi problem as well. My wife's MDA can connect using the wifi, we're broadcasting in mixed right now, and she doesn't have the tweak for G. I have several things installed, and am running the custom 2.17 TMO usa rom.

now i know that some of these programs do allow G type access. but maybe it's something else. last night at an apple store their hotspot wouldn't work either. in the comm manager it'll say it's connecting, but after a few moments it'll just go back to saying available

Unfortunately I do not have the G tweak installed to test if I have similar issues. I would suggest reversing the G tweak and testing to see if you still have problems connecting to wifi networks, if not then clearly the tweak is causing the problems. To be honest I don't personally see the need in pushing from 11MB to 54MB due to the lack of traffic a PDA will use.

SSID is the Network name .. sorry technical term. Once you have clicked on your home network in the list, you should be able to follow the rest of the instructions without any problems. However, going to your other thread (the Rom update question) the instructions may differ for your rom version.. If so, it might be an idea to solve that problem first as a Rom update will erase all of this anyway ..

I called o2, but they will not let me download the new ROM as the phone is originally Tmobile!
Is there a ROM you can reccomend and then at least I might be able to input my hex key?

I'm not sure which would be the best rom for you as your phone is originally TMobile, I would suggest going into the "Wizard upgrading etc." forum and either asking or searching for threads made by TMobile users on the O2 network. You may find that the latest O2 XDA rom will work perfectly fine on your phone (I dont see why it wouldnt...) but I would double check with someone who knows more about the Wizard before doing anything.
All of the roms for the Wizard can be downloaded from the sites FTP which is in a sticked thread at the top of this forum .

Wifi cannot be detected

Hi all!
I have an HTC Prophet, which it appears that it cannot detect any Wifi networks at all. I know that it could do so in the past (autodetect etc). After a point of time this was not working but I though that it was simply some mess up with the configuration.
After, however, having gone through a ROM upgrade and still not seeing any Wifi The little icon appears, it seems to search but nothing is found. I wonder what could be wrong? Since the Prophet has taken a few drops I was wondering whether the wifi card (SDIO) or the antenna - if any - has some kind of problem. Is there anyway to check this (e.g. device manager, open-up the prophet etc)?
What else could the source of the problem be?

Same problem here with a Prophet G4 with:
IPL: 2.21.0001
SPL: 2.21.0001
Radio ROM: 02.69.21
OS ROM: WM6 PDAVIET 1.1 8mb pool (10.2.0.8)
Tried with different roms, radio roms, etc... So many hard resets after all. No solution. Wifis aren't detected.
Actually with PDAVIET 4.0.0.4 (8mb pool). Nothing changes. Wifi not detecting anything. Sometimes i got "bluetooth hardware error" message...

Make sure the security of your router is set of. Connect your ppc with your router. If you go to your ppc wifi setting you will noticed your Mac Adress. Enter you mac Adress to your router security list. Enable your router security.

Thanks but that's not the problem. My HP6815 detects wireless networks everywhere. (also at home and at work). Both works without mac filtering or such other security measures.
This is so rare and I am going to create a new Thread because It can be impossible that i'm the only person with this problem in the world.

My XDA never have been droped. No hits, nothing. it has only 1 month of life. And doesn't work. So forgot a HW a problem (at least, created by YOU. Another question is a random hw failure)

Also, i'm wondering WHY i have "Wi-Fi" and "Wireless LAN" icons on Settings/Connections, if both shows similar information (in different ordered tabs).
I've tried 5 different GSM rom versions. (from 2.07 to last 2.69) from 2.47/61 (i'm not sure) i 've that two icons. In early versions, only "Wireless LAN".
Has anybody this TWO icons??
Do i have to do something special to make the wifi work?
Why my prophet can enable Bluetooth and wifi at the same time?
For example, after a soft reset, i can enable Wifi. (but doesnt detect nothing, of course). In that point, i CANT enable bluetooth in CommManager. I tap on the icon, but it reverts to disabled.

HD2 with GER 1.48 W-LAN ISSUES

hey guys,
i have a problem with my HD2.
For some time the Internet doesnt works via wireless lan anymore.
I can connect me with the network and everything is correctly entered (IP, etc).
the IP of the hd2 can be pinged by CMD on pc.
the funny thing is that when i load a website in opera, send a mail in outlook, etc., it always shows a "server problem".
The hd2 is set so that it will automatically connect to the "My Work Network".
I've done a hard reset, however, brought no improvement.
w-lan is also sampled at 2 different routers (different security levels), but everywhere the same.
is the problem just some adjustment in the htc?
or it may be a hardware problem?

got the hd2 with 1.43 GER T-Mobile -> SSPL -> 1.48 (everything worked fine) -> HSPL -> 1.66 (problem exists) -> (HSPL almost on hd2) -> 1.48 (problem exists)
could the HSPL cause such a problem?

have you changed Energy mode?
(einstellungen->verbindungen->wlan->erweitert, Energie-Optionen auf "leistungsoptimiert")
otherwise: change Radio?

i switched to every mode and tested it, but there is no change.
how can i change radio? (sorry, for some aspects i'm really a noob with winmo )

i was yesterday at my sisters house and tried for fun with her w-lan.
and you won't believe: it worked!
DHCP and WPA active, nothing else.
full of happyness I went back home: it did not work.
then I resetted the router to factory settings and entered only the connection data of the provider.
no security, no macfilter, DHCP activated, and it still does not work.
connection is made, but no access to the Internet.
I'm really baffled.
gave me n idea?
my 2nd router works with hd2 as I said not

The Problem is you should have it set up as internet and not work network. That worked on my 1.48

Go to the WiFi connection place (where the Wifi switch is and it shows ur acess point underneath) go to Advanced > Change Network then select ur AP and make sure 'Connects to:' is set to 'The Internet'.
Hope it helps, it worked for me

HTC HD2 WiFi standby...help

I still don't know,my HTC HD2 have serious problem or i just need some software or fixes:
1.When i'm conected on WiFi and i browse the web od do something other on internet after 15-20 minutes i lose my conection and then i must turn on/off WiFi to recconect and then i'm on line again.( i was at 1.43 ROM now i have 1.48 ROM still have same problem )
2.Also i don't know how to set my WiFi enable when phone is at standby mode.I have some program BsB Tweaks.. but nothing happens when i enable that.Example i talk at skype for some minutes and then i see my screen is off and my connection is down too then i must press wake up button and to wait for reconnect .HELP

Try instal this cab WifiNoStandby and then restart the phone. Information about this cab you may find here. It works in my Leo.

any answer to my question?
1.When i'm conected on WiFi and i browse the web od do something other on internet after 15-20 minutes i lose my conection and then i must turn on/off WiFi to recconect and then i'm on line again.( i was at 1.43 ROM now i have 1.48 ROM still have same problem )

I don't know about that issue myself, so if I came across that same problem I'd have to use the search option. Did you try and see if anyone else has had the same problem?

i try to find something but i cant' find that someone else have the same problem.

wow man! reviving a thread from mid-2010! you have every right to revive it because it is your thread and you couldn't find a solution to your first problem.
but i am confused! its been more than 6 months since you reported the problem. how come you haven't tried a newer ROM? v1.43 and v1.48 are very very very old! latest is v3.14, try it and let us know if it fixes your problem. if you have a T-Mobile HD2 or a branded HD2 (vodafone, etc), then choose a latest official ROM appropriately.

that was when i open thread now i have 3.14 ROM also i was at 1.72 ROM ...but still the same maybe i need to try with android.iIf i don't find any solution i'll try that

aah ok so you have tried the latest ROMs...so you see how it can help us and save all of our time if you post more information instead of copy/pasting the old version of the question from mid-2010?
here are some more things to try to isolate the cause of the problem:
1. try your device on some OTHER wifi network, e.g. at your friend's house or in a coffee shop, etc. does the wifi hang on ANY wifi network or just the one at your house, for example...?
2. when the wifi dies, leave it DEAD, do not disconnect/reconnect wifi. try to ping your HD2 from your desktop/laptop, assuming all devices and computers that you own are on the same wifi network. tell us what happens.
3. same as step 2, there are some programs for windows mobile that you can run on your HD2 to see your device's IP assignments, etc. such tools can also be used to ping your desktop/laptop from your HD2. i think one program that can do such things is "network browser". tell us what it shows regarding network card information BEFORE your wifi dies as well as AFTER your wifi dies. also tell us if you can ping your desktop/laptop from your HD2 after your wifi appears dead.
4. does it make any improvement if you run your wifi on "best performance" instead of "best battery". note that "best battery" is the default setting which can cause reception issues in case the wifi signal is weak.
5. yes! certainly try android, it should help isolate the problem further to confirm/deny if it is a hardware problem. but you should know that your device's MAC address will be DIFFERENT if you install android (this is because both the SD and NAND versions of android and MAGLDR currently available have no automatic way to read the actual MAC address from your device's firmware). this might cause your router to behave BETTER if the problem lies somewhere in the router's configuration. it might solve the problem for you, but you will have to shift permanently to android just to fix the wifi issue and you might never find out what router setting was affecting windows mobile if the problem really was the router settings. tricky isn't it?

I have the same problem with my HD2. I cant load any pages after 5mins of being connected to WiFi. Disconnecting and connecting again works for the first 5mins but then you need to do it again. Very annoying.
If I changed the battery saving settings in the WiFi options, it seemed like it helped sometimes.
I searched alot on the inet, but I couldn't get it to work properly.
I sent a message to htc.com support and they told me i had to perform a hard reset and upgrade to the newest official rom. I did this but none helped.
Now I've sent it for repair under warranty. I'll let you know if they fixed it when I get it back. I'm not sure if there is any other sollution, but I hope they will fix it for me.
Regarding the previous post about how to isolate the problem I will tell you how my device responded to these situations:

I've tried it at a few of my friends houses, but all gave me the same problem
Can't help you on step 2&3 since I sent my device away for repair

"Best performance" seemed to extend the time on which my WiFi would die. So I think this definetely has something to do with the problem. However I tried alot and nothing really solved it. Tapping 'Renew IP adress' a few times seemed to help too.
I read on the net about battery managing for WiFi on mobile phones in general, and for other devices who could choose the option to block the auto managing the problem was solved. Our HD2 however doesn't have this option.

I have tried alot of android builds (NAND & SD) but all had the same problem. I didn't spend much time figuring out what I could do about it while in android but by connecting the regular way the problem occured quite fast.
